I remember coming in as a kid after playing football and my mam said I've taped a Billy Joel Concert for you (This one, BBC TV 1984). I thought , er thanks (I'd only heard 2 songs by him). I ended up watching it just so not to hurt her feelings - it's still the best concert I've ever seen and I kept that video for 23 years. Bought some of his stuff but it never captured in the studio what he and his band did here.
I remember the concert as well, I seem to remember though they only showed the first half of the concert live on the BBC and the other half was played later on radio 2
I literally can't stop playin' this song (Don't Ask Me Why 😉) EASILY my second favorite Joel song of all-time 😁 I'm literally am goin' to 📫 videos of myself tryin' to sing this song (#WishMeLuck😁)!!
@@Tolstoy111 I get where ya coming from. I was going more for his origins than his influences but I can see why someone would get that idea from my op. ✌️
@haleynicoledance I had been to a few concerts with my parents when I was a kid, but the very first concert i chose to go to myself was billy joel. it was back in '83 during the innocent man tour. he was awesome, pounding the piano, jumping on top of speakers,,,crazy man, and I loved every minute of it.
aw dude, don't call him BJ. Think about how that sounds in this generation...anyway, I love Billy Joel! This is one of my favorite songs by him actually, and I love the diversity some of his material achieves.
TrishtheDishNY actually, the singing style is really more akin to rockabilly (no pun intended) or old school rhythm and blues. Crooning would be something more along the lines of Frank Sinatra or Bing Crosby.
I can't play piano...I can't sing...but it took me forever to learn this on guitar... just a beutiful song...I love Billy Joel... love him!!!
Once again, Here's Mr. Joel being Sweet Billy Badass. He's the Sylvester Stallone of musicians, you know.

Such a catchy tune
So talented. I love the way he sings. For a kid from the Bronx, he sure can hold a note.
New Yorkers prolly have insane strong voices from yelling a lot
He's from Long Island.
@@Tolstoy111 Grew up in Hicksville, born in The Bronx.
@@nagaslrac But left as a little kid so not enough time for the vocal traditions of the area to make their mark. :)

I love how he was smiling/sharing an inside joke with someone near the end with that little smile haha.
Consider yourself lucky. We never here it here overseas in my parts. That's why I'm here. You in the west luckier!

@TheJohnnyCotts that might be the case now but he was born in the Bronx and the grew up in Hicksville and Levittown.
Count in spanish, uno, dos, tres, cuatro. gooood.
@turkeyexcellent I still find you lucky because I wasn't even alive when this concert was filmed!

I read on a New Yorker article that his friends call him either BJ or Bill.
For some reason this song reminds me of Leona Helmsley. Weird!!
