Its SUNN not “SUNN Oh”and “white face” refers to a Rat color scheme from the mid 80s. People think the color makes it sound different but that’s just internet lore.
Cue a bunch of oldheads complaining how noisy and gnarly this sounds. That's the entire point. There's a million "tasteful" edge of breakup blues lawyer noodling demos out there, waiting for you to chime in which overpriced blues driver clone has the most mojo. Let the doomers have some fun. This pedal wasn't made for John Mayer wannabes.
Sounds like an assault on the eardrums, but it's refreshing to learn about a genre I am not so familiar with. Oz seems to know what he is doing, he is nice and adds a bit of noise artistry to the channel.
Love these Doom pedal demos. Love hearing a guitar signal get hit with so much gain that it basically clips into a square wave. Love Oz. Keep it up mates!
Kind of dropped out of watching gear videos for a while and got back I to it recently, I don't know how new this is but I love that Anderson's has brought on new personalities to demo stuff in different styles, makes it Much easier to find sounds that are more my style
Appreciate Oz in these kind of gear reviews, not everyone's taste but him doing a bunch of riffs and power chords is what the doomers want. We know pedals can help with dynamics, but we just wanna make sure they can do the 'money riffs' that give us the stank face. I'll always love the old crew, but I just appreciate this type of gear being used to fulfill its purpose. Not tasteful blues runs in E standard on a tele, but lower tuning riffage on a dense guitar with resonance.
Thought I'd go back and look at some comments, this one really made me smile. Thanks so much man, really reassuring to see the majority of viewers understanding what I'm trying to demonstrate. That's all I've ever wanted when searching for demos/reviews of this stuff, so it's nice to give people what I'd also want 🙂 Cheers!!❤
Sunn is an amp company. There is also a band. This video had me so pumped I had to research. Thanks for being so passionate about doom. You pulled me in to this genre almost single handedly.
I just love the cacophonous sound and tone this pedal makes. I keep debating myself on whether to get it or not. I have a Rat clone with an LED option, a boost pedal, and 2 types of octave up pedals. I even have a Model T preamp pedal (Kuro Exegol) to stack it with. To boot, I also have a BAT Quantum Mystic which is a pretty aggressive distortion pedal in its own right. What to do, what to do. I do like the 3 options of distortion on The Life Pedal V3.
I always assumed the band is just called Sunn, like the amplifier company. White face Rat is a batch of pedals with a variant of the logo from the 80s. I use a Rat clone, a Foxx Tone Machine clone and an eq pedal for a boost to get that sound.
I enjoyed the video 👍 But please, people... stop saying Sunn Oh lol. It's just Sunn... you don't have to try and pronounce the Sunn logo at the end of the name lol
This is one of the best damn pedals I've ever had. Very versatile, never expected to use the same pedal for BB King, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Bad Company, early Metallica and Eric Clapton. However... It's not for AC/DC, not for shredding. It's a "rat based" pedal, but I sold off my Proco Rat after getting this. Feels like a complete upgrade. Only thing that sucks about this pedal is the price. Filter control does wonders.
I have a clone of this pedal from Demiurge (DoomyO)))). It's absolutely insane. I'd buy one right now if it weren't for the fact that I already have a clone. It's basically the only dirt pedal that I need. It covers all the bases.
I was always curious as to why Anderton’s retail prices were greater than practically all their competitors until I discovered they had a slick & impressive video production suite.
Intense pedal, unfortunately the recording is missing ALL of the bottom end, which is what the sound is all about! Too bad, could have been an awesome review.
It’s about the same price if you bought the pedals separately. That is: a whiteface RAT, an analog dirty octave, and a clean boost; all boutique obviously (not NUX/Mooer/Behringer). I have this sound via 3 Fuzzlord pedals and all together they’re the same price as the V3
3:50 “White Face” Rat distortion is the 1980’s Proco Rat with the logo printed in a white rectangle with black RAT letters, fyi. Kinda weird that you can buy this Life Pedal v3 - for still cheaper than the 80’s White Face Rat ($350 or more).
This pedal is $300.00 USD . You can get all this happening with a standard $70.00 USD Rat II and Earthquakers Acapulco Gold which is based on a Sunn Model-T Amp that is $130.00 USD . Fits on my board better and saves me $100.
@@josearjona3728 I have 58 pedals on my board I have a clean octave pedal and 2 octave Fuzz pedals both an Octavio and Superfuzz. Those in the past using a Model-T often boosted it but not with 3 more stages. It is unnecessary overkill and never works unless you only have an audience of 'one'.
The Rat circuit is only a 1/3 part of the Life Pedal. U can replicate it adding an analog octaver (Like the EQD Tentacle) before the rat and a booster after.
Watching a video with a stinkface. Does not happen all the time. Holy crap. That thing goes. The company that comes up with a budget version of this pedal is in buisiness. Every 16 year old would want one to to rattle the brickwork in their bedroom.
@@jameyharrison7499 Nope it was a clone by Anvil Effects. It uses the LM301 instead of the LM308 though, still prefer it over the v3 Life Pedal that uses the OP07. Also got the Earth 2 Low Frequency Lm308 distortion coming in next month
Honestly, the most interesting part of this pedal is the octave switch. Other than that, it’s not very versatile and you’d be better off with a Rat/Tubescreamer combo which would give a lot more tonal options
Liking these videos a lot, good to hear something other than blues jams and see these kinds of pedals get used the way they're meant to be used
Dig this having the kids run the asylum type video. Oz could be one of the best personalities Andertons has had.
100%
Oz, cici and Dave have been great additions
He rules
Only a Real Doomer knows this feeling

OMG yeah, there must be what? 4 or 5 comments out of 121 with people saying they don’t like it
Calm down beavis. This sound is nothing new. Been around for decades. Stop making controversy where there isn’t.
Wtf has age got to do with it? I’m in my 50s and this is my shit. A whole bunch of doom bands are over 40s. We started this genre.
Go wipe your butt

OZ is the man. Definitely need this kind of content. anyone who says otherwise only play BOOMER BENDS
Ok Doomer
@ lmao ok Boomer. Have fun with ur boxed off blues scale. Playing the same pentatonic licks over and over.
Been watching since chappers had dreads, this guy is a GREAT personality for the show…
I think Whiteface refers to the 80's Rat, some of the versions of the rat had a white box logo.
yeah thats right
Great if you've got a use for it. But I think it's a bit on the large side.
Seems obvious now haha! Camera nerves!😅
Holy shit the dude can riff

Great to have more Oz and doom content
I think "white face" refers to a Mark 2 Rat, with white writing (typeface) on it. It's the second setting on the JHS Rat Pack after, anyway.
Yes, more doom/heavy music and more Oz. Stoked! Absolutely love that pedal as well.

Pedal is legend that is just better now.
it was bestowed upon the green clouds both near and far, we have been blessed with the gift of life by the wizards above.
Keep it up Oz
Love your work Oz. Nice to see you in front of the camera for a change
I used to own a Rat back in the early '90s. Unfortunately it was stolen with all of my Boss pedels, and my TubeScreamer. Bad times.
Sorry to hear that
This into the EAE Model FeT would be a beast.
Hell yes... you're onto it.
Yaaaaas! What a sound!
This should be the gift for joining Sun Life over 50's life insurance. Much better than a gold carriage clock :D
So good Oz, love ya work.
Wonder what a bass sounds like through this.
That thing sounds wicked, evil, extreme. I like it. Something Cici should try. That would be fun!
Hey Oz if you ever find yourself in the PNW I would enjoy taking you to some of our local shows around Seattle.
Noted!
came for the pedal, stayed for the host😊❤!!!
It’s not Sunn-O. The O is a Sun logo. It’s just Sunn

As sludgy doom player myself. I dig this new Oz guy
Oz knows what’s up

Agreeing with previous comments. Loving the Oz man!
Awesome
Ace, Oz should have a regular spot 🤘

Good review!
Great stuff, Oz..!!! A welcome break from the dad orientated rock/blues we usually get from Anderton's TV....😂
Perfect demo for that pedal!
People mentioning the size of the pedal clearly haven't seen the size of Sunn0))) stage rig.
Yay, more Oz making more awesome sounds! :D
Reminds me of the time we saw Conan supporting the Cavalera brothers
This pedal should be called Perpetual Stank Face.
Watching this, I can't help feeling that this pedal could be quite good on bass...
Oz is truly enjoyable to watch and listen to.

If you have a rat, just buy an analog octaver and a booster to get this happening. Summing a rat and an Acapulco Gold is a different thing
