    Great review, excellent sound examples! I love the fact that they added the option to control the Octave effect with an expression pedal. That alone adds a bunch of extra options to how this pedal can be used. I wish I could afford to buy one right now. I love the sound and I think it would be a great addition to my rig.

    You’ll love the DOD Carcosa if stuff falling apart manglied and obliterating gets your heart racing. I demo’d Rooms - lovd it but too pricey for me. A secondhand Boss suffices for my reverb needs.

    Best demo of this pedal yet. You found very cool sounds and a smarter approach than just diming everything into a dirty amp with high output pickups. Also really enjoyed the stacking with other pedals. I have the Life Pedal and I am on the verge of buying the OBNE Darkstar, would love a cool demo of that pedal too. Keep up the good work, subscribed.

    This is the best review of this pedal I've seen. Subscribed! Most of them kind of just focus on the "doom" tones, which it obviously does very well, but don't really got into other possibilities, so I appreciate seeing what else this can do. My thing is, I have an Orange Rockerverb MKii when I love the dirt channel, so would this pedal work as a boost for that channel, or is it more of a pedal for a clean channel that imposes it's own flavor while replacing the amps voicing? Also, the clean channel on my Rockerverb is very low end heavy and wooly, so would a pedal like this, which is also very low mid focused work well, or would it just get really muddy? I do like this pedal, but I'm on the fence as I'm not sure how it's work with the my clean channel, and I don't want the tone of my amp to get buried, if you know what I mean. Any feedback you have would be appreciated.

    • @boringgearreviews
      @boringgearreviews  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for your kind words, subscribe and support! It really means a lot. I think it would totally work as a boost but might be overkill for that purpose. I feel it still let’s the characteristics of the amp come through but it certainly adds it’s own flavor to it. Especially the rat side. I didn’t find this pedal to be or to cause muddiness though, so I’m not sure there would be an issue there. Perhaps a proper boost pedal would be more what you’re looking for? Or maybe the Plumes from EQD? I love this thing but if you already have a drive and clean sound you love, I think this might be a big change to throw in front of it. Who knows though? Perhaps you’d like that sound even more. I’m going to be doing a Plumes video soon too. Maybe picking one up from Guitar Center or Amazon or something would be a good idea. So you can try it and return if it if you don’t bond with the sound. Either way, great question and thanks again for your support.

    • @mountainpeakcloud8442
      @mountainpeakcloud8442 Год назад

      @@boringgearreviews Thanks a lot for your detailed response and suggestion. I'll definitely check out the Plumes and watch your review when it comes out. I actually have a Boss SD-1 that boosts the high mids of my amp while cutting some lows, which pushes it more into JCM800 territory. I'm still considering the Sunn life for it's more wild settings.

    Hey guys do you think this pedal would work okay with my jc40, I've been struggling to find a drive that works well with it and I was torn between this and an hm2

    • @boringgearreviews
      @boringgearreviews  Год назад +1

      Hey there. For pedal platforms, the main thing that matters is that they’re clean and have a lot of headroom. The HM-2 totally different but great in its own way. It only does that sound though. If you’re after that sound, it’s the way to go. If you’re looking for a broader range and octave and all that, the Life Pedal is tremendous. Very versatile and fun.

  • @brycet1505
    @brycet1505 Год назад +1

    Do you use the thermae in a heavy context at all? I generally play doom/sludge and post-metal, and I love the delay of the thermae/tonal recall. Since the tonal recall has been discontinued, I've bought the thermae to use as a straight delay. Despite trying, I haven't been able to find a way to use the pitch shifting in a way that works well (at least in my opinion) in a heavy context. Seems like you play similar music, so I was wondering if you've found any settings you like for heavier styles.

    • @boringgearreviews
      @boringgearreviews  Год назад +2

      I do use it for heavier stuff sometimes but I totally get what you’re saying. The pitch stuff is pretty abstract, so I like to use it to fill in space between notes with shifting rhythms or if I’m playing leads, I use it for chaos behind my playing. It can be tricky to find a setting that works and since the sequence can’t be controlled (unless you’re using the STEP dip switch), the rhythms can be equally tricky. I’m putting out a Thermae demo this month that will hopefully show what I mean.

    • @brycet1505
      @brycet1505 Год назад

      @@boringgearreviews Gotcha. I can see it being used as a background noise especially on the sort of "decimated" sounds. Will be interested to see the Thermae demo. Keep this content coming. Just stumbled across your channel, and I enjoy the reviews. You seem to play a similar style of music as me and you play a lot of my favorite gear (Rooms, Thermae, CXM, Life Pedal, etc) so I'm interested in what else you've got planned.
