I made this dish tonight for my family , everyone loved it! It was so easy to follow. Thank you so much. I was scared to use 5 star anise but it turned out so flavorful. To sear the meat, I used a little bit of oil in a very hot stainless steel pan. I heated the pan until water sprinkled on top forms a bead. I found that this has helped me get a nice crust. My pieces lacked some fat I think you are right if normally you wouldn’t need oil. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge
Oh I am so glad you tried it and you and your family enjoyed it! And you're so akamai! Always adapt with cooking such as you did. Sometimes meat doesn't always have enough fat so adding oil will help! 🤙 You can check out my other recipes here: ruclips.net/p/PLXVvc1-lYT9-KRF4Be1mG7t-viWNDB1Yj&si=vu2PUITjwOrc3hje
That looks delicious! It looks easy to make too. We love a good soup. My sister uses oxtails a lot when she cooks and I think she'd love this recipe. Thanks for sharing it! 😊
Yes and the actual oxtail are super expensive in the store too. But you'll save a little money doing it yourself. Too bad as it used to be a cheap poor person's food. Kinda like how brisket is now expensive.
Oxtail soup was one of my mother-inlaw's favorite things to eat. I never tried it because the word "tail" never sounded appetizing. Because I lack cooking skills, next time I see it on a menu, I'll have to try it. Thanks!
If all your recipes are as ono as they look, maybe opening a restaurant or lunch truck might be something to think about. Ox tail soup, adobo, smoked ribs …would be WINNAHZ‼️😃
I used to cater small parties/events, sell food items, and thought of opening a food truck after I retire. But I know all the hard work that goes into it and I tell myself nah. It would take my joy of cooking away if it were a job.
OMG!! Craving hot soup as it's cold here in So. Cal. You made the recipe look so easy! I hope Aiden enjoyed it cuz I think kids like/prefer the soft meat off the bone. Thanks for sharing your recipe! it didn't look greasy as most restaurants leave a lot of fat on. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! Will you be taking us on some tours of Christmas lights on Oahu? I can imagine the hotels all decked out.
He did like it! But he loves soups of all kinds. Great idea. I don't think the hotels are very decked out but maybe I'll drag my corpse to the Honolulu City Lights and film it.
Yes click on the video's description box for detailed instructions and what to do if you don't have orange peel. You can also buy it off Amazon. Thanks Joette.
Yes so expensive but so are the oxtails at the store. But you can probably make a bigger amount at home to feed everyone instead of the price of one bowl. 😊
I just wash the stew meat if it's super bloody. I guess I don't soak it as much since stew is not a clear broth. I don't like bloody curdles floating in my clear soup.
You should mention to those who don't know that this soup is super expensive if you order it at a restaurant! A friend of mine said that Zippy's charges around $25 for a bowl and I'm sure it's not as good as yours!
Yes great point. I guess I assume most locals know it's highway robbery at restaurants but I forgot about the people that don't love here. A great way to save money and do it yourself for sure.

I bake my oxtail, in the oven, on a wire grill, instead of saute. I find it removes more of the fat/oil from the meat.
Excellent looking soup. Maybe will give the mirepoix a try. Thanks for the recipe. Can I ask where you got the oxtail from?
I got it from the commissary. But if I don't go there I'd usually get it from Don Quijote.
Misty,
This soup looks absolutely delicious! I probably can’t get the dried orange peel here. Can I dry my own out? ❤️😋❤️
Yes click on the video's description box for detailed instructions and what to do if you don't have orange peel. You can also buy it off Amazon. Thanks Joette.
Looks yummy! 🤤 🍚 🥢
Thank you!
yum!!🤩

Thanks for sharing…it’s so expensive now in the restaurant s
Yes so expensive but so are the oxtails at the store. But you can probably make a bigger amount at home to feed everyone instead of the price of one bowl. 😊
Do you soak regular stew meat as well to get the blood out? Or just brown it? Thanks for the video!
I just wash the stew meat if it's super bloody. I guess I don't soak it as much since stew is not a clear broth. I don't like bloody curdles floating in my clear soup.
@@FoodFiend I wouldn’t either. Never made something like this. Might have to give it a try 👍
The broth looks delicious. I would pay $12.00 for that, maybe more!
Thanks

Thanks for this. I recall in one of Hello Hawai'i's videos you left a comment that you are Hawaiian. This is cool. Thanks for the recipe.
Mahalo for watching. Yes I'm part Native Hawaiian and a mixture of other ethnicities as well. 🤙
