TEDxAtlanta Opening | Moon Hooch | TEDxAtlanta

  • The musical equivalent of the TEDxAtlanta theme “Bold Moves,” Moon Hooch kicked off the conference. The raw, kinetic sounds of saxophones and drums electrified the auditorium and set the energy at maximum volume.
Moon Hooch is recreating the sounds and energy of dance club music with two horns and a drum set.
Moon Hooch captured the imaginations of thousands with its infamous stints busking on subway platforms and elsewhere in New York City: two sax players and a drummer whipping up furious, impromptu raves. It happened with such regularity at the Bedford Ave station in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, that the band was banned from playing there by the NYPD. The trio’s subsequent tours with They Might Be Giants, Lotus, and Galactic as well as on their own have only broadened the band’s appeal. Wherever Moon Hooch plays, a dance party soon follows.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I'm not understanding why we have to decide between Too Many Zooz, Moon Hooch, or any other band toting similar instruments. there is room in the music world for all of the great, hard working musicians to spread their message. I love them both & frankly they both bring such different elements to the table that trying to compare the two would be impossible. the two are just so different. the only similarities they have are the drums, the saxes & the size of the bands. & all 6 of these gents deserve props as the excessively talented musical badasses & rebels that they are. show some respect.

They've all grown and improved so so much since they started, but especially the drummer. If you listen to their oldest songs, then their newest, it's like a whole different band. Around 12:30 to 13:00 I swear I hear 3 saxes. WHERE TF DID THE OTHER ONE COME FROM!?!? There's also a small chunk missing from one of the cymbals. Is that how the cymbal is made? Or is it broken? It looks too intentional to be broken, but I've never seen a cymbal like that before

James has a great build but V-necks definitely don't suite him.
