Great video mate, I think the guy pushing the winch on button deserves some credit for flattening the battery! Was definitely all part of the adventure and we both drove out of there just a shame the Grey Dingo didn't quite make it home.
Great weekend with a dramatic finish!
Thanks for the kind words Dan, It was great to get the Troopy out for a run... look forward to getting out on the tracks with you... Fingers crossed for the Grey Dingo
Thanks Matt! It was certainly a memorable moment when the troopy came into view. Hey what year/mode/engine/anything else special is your vehicle? Making another short video going through your DIY carpentry and setup 😬
1987 hj75 series . motor was rebuilt 40k ago vehicle is about to hit 500,000kms .... It has the 2h deisel motor and i am close to putting a turbo on it.. love your editing skills keep it up,,
Well done Troopy Matt, now I know who I can call!! 😂
Troopy is looking mint mate.
All the best with the Grey Dingo Dan, I remember talking to Jase about you being broken down in Moe … glad you made it out safe !! 😂🤷🏼
I feel you Dan. Hope the Grey Dingo is on the mend and back on her feet again soon!
Thanks Stevo. Will continue unfolding the story on the channel. Its been an interesting few months! Thanks for watching mate.
As much as I knew that was coming, my heart felt it watching this one. Gutted for you Dan. Kids wanted to send you a new 4x4 as a present. Innocence of youth! Wish we could help mate. RIP Grey Dingo. Loved the organ music. Nailed the editing as usual buddy
Hi Price clan. Its been a tough few months as we investigated all the options! Slightly traumatic reliving the day when editing the video too. Thanks for the encouragement guys. Tell Robyn and Wills we appreciate them thinking of us!😊
Once again an epic video. Its whats its all about, mates helping mates. No questions asked just honest help! And yet again the ever reliable Pajero comes to the rescue 😅.
Heart aches for the Grey Dingo, you can see the look on your face at the end of defeat and sadness but a new chapter begins and I think we are all looking forward to seeing the new rig in action!
Grin ear to ear reading this - comments like this make the RUclips thing worth it. Thanks heaps for watching mate, you'd made my day.
You might have to take over the Paj from Jason? Another great video Dan, great work thanks.
Hi John, thanks for watching and the encouragement and leaving this comment. Next step in the journey will be revealed soon! I chuckled at this - a reasonable theory, but unlikely 😆
Nice to see you both kept your cool, and well done, Troopy Matt 👌 .
The important thing is to make the best out of a bad situation, get out safely, and learn a few things along your journey good or bad.
Great video thank you.
Totally agree Luca. Thanks for watching.
Bugger! Tough trip, but admire Jason and your positive attitude and problem solving.
Fingers crossed things work out and The Grey Dingo runs again.
Thanks for sharing
I watched this a few months ago and added Wheelers Hut and Zulu creek track to my list. Fast forward to a few days ago and to a solo trip I did with my 5 year old and WOW what a cool track! Incredibly steep! Must have been wild in the wet!! We didn't pass anyone between Perisher, over the Murray over Pinnibar and to Benambra on tracks so I'm glad we didn't have any issues.
Glad you both got out.
Hi Ryan. That's awesome that you came back to leave such a meaningful comment. Thanks heaps mate. I really enjoyed that area too. I haven't been back to Zulu but its on the cards and will be bitter sweet for sure. Sounds like you had an epic trip up there - great route across the peaks. What vehicle have you got for those sorts of solo vehicle trips? What's your advice for approaching 4wd offroad travel with young kids? Cheers👍🍻😬
We just have an 07 Triton with a 2 inch lift, 32inch mud tyres and a winch. I think a trick to off road travel with kids is to not base camp and keep moving everyday as it keeps everything fresh every day and forces you to not have a complicated set up. My 5 year old enjoys tough tracks and just watching the scenery, I always take some toys but he tends to prefer playing in the rivers/bush and the fire and letting him think he is helping with the map.
Oh and that bucket is still there too!!

Been there done that with a tow truck before. Funny enough, From the high country and involving a Toyota as well! If we didn’t tell you about that recovery you might have to ask Matt about it 😉
Definitely a deflating way to end a trip. Hope you can get something sorted soon!
Hi Dean, Sorry for not replying quick. Hope you are travelling well. I will ask Matt about that one. Tow trucks are never fun...and it was a great trip otherwise. At least there's some exciting things coming up on the channel to share :)
So I’ve heard!
Thanks for sharing; I've really enjoyed your quiet videos cooking over a fire, and these tracks you've taken us on lately have been fun to watch too. So sad to see the 4WD in such a sorry state; hope things work out okay. Excited to hear what exactly happened to the engine.
Glad you enjoyed it :) More quiet videos at the campfire to come, once I've sorted out the car dramas! Appreciate the encouragement - thanks heaps 😬
Hi Dan. So a new engine, a rebuild or a new car? I guess we have to wait for the next episode. I just got back from a 5,500km trip up to Longreach coming back to Vic on backroads. Ticked off a few places from my bucket list. Decided I may even like outback touring more than the high country. Anyway good luck with the car.
Hi Michael, apologies for delay in replying. Looks like your engineering brain cut right to the chase - and you have pretty much nailed the decision that needed to be made! Not too much more waiting - lots of videos in a backlog to be released...Did you travel the coast up, then directly south coming home? Would love to experience those back roads and the nothingness through that section of Australia. Cheers
Went straight up through the middle then went west and travelled south then from Tibooburra went east towards Burke to pick up the Darling River. Yes the nothinigness is what attracts me. @@OTWD
Time to buy a troopy 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wouldn't be such a bad thing..!!
@@OTWD you could do product reviews from the back seats
Good video Dan. Can't get over that fog, not used to that in Qld.
So what was the problem with the Prado?
Hi Allan, the spot we were winching was approximately 1300m above sea level. If it wasn't so foggy the views would have been spectacular. Classic Victoria really. I visited relatives in Brizzy recently (in winter) - and it makes me wonder why I live down here....😬 Thanks for watching mate. Story will unfold..stay tuned. Cheers
Surely it can be fixed? How many kms has it done?
469,315km. Definitely fixable...More on that in next video. But what if it costs more than the vehicles value?... Thanks for watching😬
What steering wheel cover is that?
