Oztent RV Peaked SIDE and FRONT Panel Review

Oztent RV Peaked SIDE and FRONT Panel Review
That configuration didn’t work for me, as the heavy weight is all on the driver’s side & I kept getting bogged on that side. So have ripped it all out & wanting just 2 even weighted benches on both sides… does anyone know any kits out there like that, to save me the hassle?
Great tips cheers. For putting out the fire I either move the burning wood into a metal trash can using fire tongs then I lift the takibi by the legs, dump the coals into the bin and cover the bin 🚮 with the lid (you can reuse the coals the next time) or ill dump the coals into the fire ring and drown the coals 💦. You can also oil the firepit with vegetable oil once in awhile to prevent rust. I like using pocket bellows, 2 firetongs for playing with the fire, wool blankets and clothing around the fire to save my good gear 🔥🏕️❄️🇨🇦
Hey Dan, just watched this video which was well done! Just wondering what kap industries bracket you used?
Question: What product worked best to clean the case? I mean other than that hard scrubbing.
absolute Banger - Cheers Mate💪🏼
Amazing review!! Thank you!!
Great review
Thats how I started out with my LR Disco 2. The Prado and Discovery 2s are very very similar size and layout. Because I daily drive mine, and do have tools, and various stuff i throw in and out of it, I did end up designing and building my own fit out in the back. which is modular with a top part that comes out when I don't need it, boxes that go in the fridge space when I don't have the fridge in. We did 4 weeks living out of the car in 2019 doing the red centre, and figured we needed some organisation to not send ourselves mad trying to find stuff. I am envious of your collection of canvas bags haha. I need more to help organise the back, but I haven't been away in quite a while so have forgotten what I need them to organise. The Boab roof nets are awesome. I actually use mine as a half cargo barrier/net above my fit out in the back up to the roof. Keep up the good work
Good job on your first cast iron seasoning. Are you reading off a teleprompter or did you memorize?
Excellent review Dan. You covered everything in perfect detail. Thank you.
The background music is distracting
Wtf is wrong with the sound
Do you know if the kings grill fits the snow peak. My kings has rusted out. Only kings item in my set up.
I have to say its a pretty impressive modular tent system. But I can't get past the price of these things. Doing a quick check, by the time you put ion all of the bells and whistles, its about $3,000. Initially I thought that the high cost was just because it has been such a long time since I have bought any tenting equipment. But going on line I see that you can still get large external frame, two and tree room, 10 to 12 person tents for about $1,000. I get the novelty of being able to put up the basic tent in "30 second' gimmick. But $2,000 is a lot to pay for a gimmick that goes out the window when you start adding all of the other components.
Does it retain a coal base ? Only issue I have found with firepits is you can’t use a camp oven on them as the coal base burns away to quickly. P.S. to stop the grill rusting , season it as you would a frypan.
First up, its funny watching your videos. I don't think we have caught up since Berwick Scout days haha. Fantastic trip up there, and a trip that I have been wanting to do for some time now. Watching some of those steep climbs though, my only concern in my case is my Discovery being manual, can be a bit hard to keep steady. But if the Prado can do that, my Disco will do it haha
i was expecting a boring long video with just instructions but the fact he gave a hole history surprised me greatly aswell as how good it was
This review is very informative. I'm thinking of purchasing this tent to use between selling my current camper and buy my next one...
A sore wrist. You must have an easy job.
Good job Mate. Reward of your own work. You could have done it professionally done but when you look in the rear view you will see your handy work every time. Keep the videos coming. Looking forward to seeing one out on the road again.
Thanks heaps Terry. You are absolutely right. Feels good doing stuff yourself. I already see some short comings (should have used a rust converter after the rust remover) but we live and learn. Appreciate the encouragement😬 Big backlog of editing. Comments like this remind me the effort is worth it!!
Love your work Mate and love that you say how you are wanting to build not just your channel but a community. I no longer have a 4wd so enjoy watching the trips. Getting out is fantastic.
Nice work, A few have popped up in Vic, but I always hold off because I'm often have the seats down. But I love the practicality of it
Definitely glad I have it! It makes the space way more usable. If you don't need the seats down anymore I highly recommend getting one if you haul a bit of gear. Thanks for watching mate 😬
@OTWD yea it definitely finishes off the cab. I've got drawers and sometimes sleep in the back. But now tossing up between the rooftop tent or a regular tent haha
Nice mate
Thanks for watching Luke!
Nice work on the iron emu mate!
It's come together nicely 😬I probably should do another walkthrough video soon, it looks a lot different compared to 12 months ago!
@OTWD yeah I need to do the same
Love the pink hat/ sunglasses combo at the end ❤ Great vid as always. Love M, L, R, W, F, and…Bump! X
WOW. That's amazing news! Congratulations P Clan. R and W will be well practiced as big brother and sister. F was the practice run..
Angle grinder with a wire wheel then hand sand then wax and grease remover then prime coat and paint coat - still a big job tho. Well done dan!
Yep - I'll own up to my second-rate handyman knowledge😬 Thanks for watching Ben. Power tools would have made it easier! Cheers
I have used a product called Fertan quite successfully on rust. It is a convertor rather than a remover but can be painted over. I use a wire brush attached to my drill first to remove any scale. Anyway another interesting video and I agree you certainly need a cargo barrier.
Wow - I just investigated Fertan. In theory you can paint straight over the chemically converted new surface..I would have done this as the step before painting. I'm going to keep this in one in mind. Thanks for supporting and watching my videos Michael😬
Nice work, came up a treat!
Good vid Dan.
Thanks Allan appreciate you watching and supporting my video production !!😬🍻
Thats a lot of corn flakes
The man likes corn flakes - what can I say ?😅
That's a pretty lousy choice on the car brand that will "last a lot longer" 😅😅
I'd buy the G-Wagon if I had the money😅
Great video, I will be buying the aeropress very soon and “hopefully” converting to black coffee 😅. I’ll let you know how I get on 🫣
Good luck! I still aeropress every morning in the wacaco cup and sip on the way to work. Push through on the black! Imagine not having to worry about the hassle of having milk... Thanks for watching. Cheers.
Best way to carry an Oztent rv4 on a sedan with roof racks? I saw you mentioned a drifta roof rack but I live too far from anyone who supplies them
Just need to support the tent along the ~2m length so there are more that a few points of contact (ie. It's not recommended to put straight onto roof bars with 2 points of contact) On the video sharing video comments (where i mentioned the drifta carrier), someone suggested using a ladder. You may need to get creative 😬
Epic showing of the RV-5 thank you. Convinced me to get the RV-5 Plus and a floor mat. Cheers Bro 🤙🏼
Sorry for delay. You won't look back - hope you have a great time with the tent. Happy camping!
Appears to be a very expensive pain in the ar$e. 30 second tent that takes hours of extra setup! 😅😅😅😅😅 I couldn't justify the cost for the size and weight when packed and all the stuffing around to setup for a long stay. Plus it's made in Ch!na 😮😮😮
I love it - lighter than a caravan or trailer for us. Extra setup is optional, but honestly doesn't take us long. Fair enough opinion, what do you recommend instead?
I know this vid is two years old, but the easy way to clean the floor is to set it up and push the tent forward with the front on the ground, if windy just peg down the front.
Hi Dennis, sorry for delay. Thanks heaps for correcting me on this😬. In another video on the channel named "Sharing YOUR Oztent Tricks and Advice!!" I expressed the better way. Best wishes. Cheers
Can't wait for this, let's goooo!
Heya Rooster. Realised I never replied this. Not long for the next one - It's on the work bench!!!! Thanks for encouragement Sir😬
@@OTWD all good, go well mate.
Having watched Jason’s vids, very much looking forward to your version Dan! Bring it on 💪
Uplifting encouragement! Thanks heaps James! 🍻👍
@@OTWD anytime Dan, keep up the great work mate. Your Storytelling is 👌
🙏
LOVE IT! Can’t wait x
Thanks Prices! Received the thoughtful email! Will reply shortly. Doing well here❤😬
Nice trip this one lots of challenges and mishaps, Great crew and got along really well
Such a memorable trip. Glad Jason connected us together. More great trips to come.
Great intro mate. Can't wait to relive this trip with you telling the story!
It was awesome. Thanks for organising, researching, and inviting me. Won't forget this one anytime soon!
@@OTWD me either mate, was an epic trip! From 12v issues to everything else not to forget those possums you made friends with.... :-)
As a couple we take collapsible stretcher beds and line them either side of entrance. If u get the height right you can store gear underneath. Its quicker than airbeds and warmer off the ground. You csn buy stackable plastic drawers from big w that fit underneath plus between bunks 2 high, makes perfect bedside table. All our clothes and gear travel in them stacked in the ute. So easy to transfer. We use the same for cooking gear. Slide perfectly under tables.
Great ideas and advice. Thanks for sharing. I did not mention the benefits of stretchers such as the space underneath - so glad you have brought it up - it is significant. Cheers.
So which do you prefer? Aeropress or espresso maker? Oh and loved the vids…..might need to get some insect repellent lol
Hi Greg, Glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks heaps for watching mate. I am stubborn when it comes to insect repellent - it gets stinky if you can't wash it off properly! Sunscreen on the other hand, my pasty Victorian skin burns and I lather it on...a bit hypocritical. I vote aeropress out of these two, still. I have an aeropress coffee every day before going to work, and every morning when I'm camping. The Wacaco press only comes out on special occasions - its a bit more involved, harder to clean, and you can only get a short black each use. Cheers!!
lots of gear
Still relatively light weight. But yep, heaps of stuff. I like to be prepared.
we have a stoch kzj95 1996 prado shes at over 5500000 km
Thanks for watching. How often are you changing engine oil?
Howzit Dan. I asked for your advise almost a year ago now I think, about the 120 series. You had some good advise. I said I’d update on what I eventually bought, so I actually ended up buying a 1998 105 series Land Cruiser, the 4500 EFI. 290000 km’s, full service history with number of upgrades (raised, extended fuel tank, water tank, front and rear steel bill bars, roof rack, dual battery with inverter, and a bunch more). Ready to do some exploring. Thanks again man, your channel was part of the inspiration that got me to where I am now, appreciate it buddy. Have a good one
Great video! Does anyone think it would work for a 120 prado?
Hey Jared, Hopefully someone with a 120 responds. I haven't spend much time inside one. Good luck.
You can buy a deburring tool for cleaning up holes in metal. They work well.
Realised I didn't reply to this one Michael... I need to invest in one of those. I didn't know they existed!
