Couldn't agree more Dan. I have an RV4 and depending on the weather I use the side walls for added shade. The fly I use 100% of the time. Gives a lot of added protection.

In my opinion the drifta poles are of very little value and not needed if you use extra guy ropes on the awning . I also chose the Kings 3m x 6m ground sheet over the Oztent ground sheet , which is a saving of $300-$350 on your set up . These tents are exceptional , I’ve had mine in snow , rain and 50+kph winds without issue , the fly is a must in my opinion,not only for extra rain protection (and extra storage) but they keep the tent much cooler in hot weather and save it from bird poo and leaf stains . I rate the Oztent as probably the best tent for all weather conditions on the market , thanks for another concise review and enjoy your trip…..cheers
Hi Luke, Hope you are doing well mate - Merry Xmas and all that! Glad you found a pole setup that works. I'ver tried the Oztent and the Supapeg and I reckon the Supapeg poles does make it more sturdy and robust. We have one of those kings ground sheets too (for under the hexatarp/other uses), the main advantage of the Oztent floor saver is that it perfectly fits the size of the tent and has eyelet holes for pegs in best places. Its also seems to last better and doesn't crease up and wrinkle like the Kings one. Again glad it works for you - and you have saved some cash! Despite the large panels and tall structure, totally agree it holds up well in strong winds - It's all about how well the guy ropes are setup - do you find the same? @@OTWD yeah mate , guy rope set up is crucial on the awning. If you are expecting high winds an extra guy rope on the front poles secures it nicely . The Oztent is expensive but after you have used it in all weather conditions you quickly forget about the price.

Hi, I watch the video again and I’ve picked up another little good tip. Get them security straps is Is a capital idea. I know it won't stop thieves if they determined enough but if I need to go for a but if I need to go for a convenience break on my long trips Gives me a bit of peace of mind me a bit a piece of mind thanks again for your top tips

I did get an OZ3 and got the side and front panels later. Not a real problem to set up the 3 and fold it up to go every one day stay but with all the other pieces it is for a prolonged stay. I rigged the front door of the 3 to the back of my LR witch gives me a cover to open the rear of the 3 for a covered cooking area out the back of the 3 and with the rear door of the 3 swung away I have a bit of privacy on one side. Still have to get the floor saver, right using a tarp from Harbor freight cut to floor sizes a floor saver. Love this tent.
Thanks for sharing Morris! Love the idea of butting the vehicle tailgate against the awning. Floor saver is expensive compared to a tarp, but it has definitely worked out well for us. Cheers!
I really like the front area for extra storage, seating area and a bathroom at night time so you don’t need to go outside. Makes a lot of sense.

May I mention that in rain the front spreader bar should be placed on the outside of the tent and use the centre attachment point for pull the front of the tent down slightly to allow water run off. I discovered this the hard way in a storm when the front section of the peaked roof filled with water. Good videos thanks.

Not need to put bar on outside ;) all you have to do is have one of the front pole s not all the way up eg sight angle to one corner works well to stop pooling. Pole does not have to much lower.
Yes that works as well but the walls end up in the mud. That is exactly what I did when we got back and found it filled with water.

Hi mate, sorry for delay. The cost is a bit crazy. You can buy decent 3-person tents for the price of the side walls😩 Cheers. More Prado action coming!
To your zip issue there is c clips at each zip on elastic bands you will know the ones I mean as you probably looked at them at gone where do these attach lol. What you do is attach them to pegs one at each door that stops the zip from moving up. I normally go to eyelet peg in the floor saver. I had no idea what they were for until I emailed oztents one day and they explained that what they were for to stop the zip riding up etc. They work well in closing the zip gap and also closing the gap in the vinyl section

Watching your review of the rv5 made me happy I got the oztent jet tent. Essentially it’s this tent but the room is incorporated with a fly. I’d love to set it up and compare one day with your set up. I did the awning upgrade with the supapeg poles as well for the awning. Good video.

Hey Mate have followed your vids and we’ll done to the family, I would suggest 600mm Ocky straps for the 3 rear fly guy ropes, easy to unhook and adjust rear window Flap, we’ll done again.

This is an excellent idea, and I'm going to give it a go! When we get a trailer a bit later in the year, strapping down a kayak is something I'd like to have the flexibility to do (along with mountain bikes and other things). What's an easy +simple way to to mount a kayak to a roof rack?
Fantastic channel. Was wondering , as we have basically the same kid situation as you, how you find the room in the RV5 for sleeping you all? Would love your opinion, and also maybe a clearer view of the inside setup next time you’re out.
Hi Peter - Thanks for the encouragement 😁 1 month waiting for me to respond...better late than never I guess - I do respond to all comments - eventually 😅! A few people have have asked about sleeping arrangements - will probably do a video near the end of 2023 or early 2024, so keep an eye out. Depending on slop of ground our heads always go close to door, or close to back wall - ie we never lay sideward across the tent- more for easy access to beds than anything else... We have three single self inflating mattresses (Zempire brand - 'Monstamat'), Butted up against eachother, Me, Wife, Daughter(nearly4YO) get a mat each, then we have a Camping Portacot for son(1YO)- from Aldi - my daughter is only half the length of the mentioned self inflating mat, so her mat 'folds/bends' up against the mesh wall of the porta-cot to create room for the portacot. If you try something like this be careful that the mat folded up and pushing againt the cot doesn't cause any risk to bub.. Once daughter gets too big/son outgrows cot, we will get camping bunk beds - such as the Disco-O-Bed Kid-O-Bunk (pricey, but gets good reviews) - So Kids in the middle on bunks, wife and I on the single mats either side. Hi Courtney, Thanks for the encouragement and taking the time to comment 😀 Good idea, I will film that when we next use the tent! We have 3 single zempire megamats- highly rate these. So daughter on one of the mattresses, takes up half of it. And son in porta cot with the bottom half of the mattress folded upward on the wall of the cot. When son doesn't need porta cot we will probably get a bunk stretcher, like the Disc-O-Bed Kid-O-Bunk (expensive but Ive heard good things). Cheers

Happy New Year Guys, looking forward to an awesome 2023! We have been in 0 - 5DegC. With a few people in there it retains the heat pretty well. It was a reservation we had initially given there seems to be a lot of space inside - but it turned out fine.

Curious as to why didn't you just get the RX5 with living room and fully enclosed bucket flooring if you wanted an extra place for the kids play area? Would love to hear your thoughts as we are also a fam of 4 same aged kids, and wondering what the pros/cons are between RV5 with side/front panels vs the RX5 with living room.
Hi Mate, sorry for the delayed response. Our son is nearly 2YO now and mobile enough that trying to contain him is a useless exercise.. 😬.The way we use the tent is evolving over time. I think the RV5 still suits our needs and isversatile - when we bought the tent it came down largely to $$$, and personally like the canvas more, and I never anticipated a need to have another room with a floor. In my RV5 review I talk about how my favourite aspect of the tent is the indoor/outdoor' vibe of the awning area without the panels, and I still believe that. That's how we prefer to use the tent. We close it in with panels when there's a specific need to. You might save $1000 dollars if you start with the RV5 and do some trips and find out you don't need the walls and front anyway. Let me know what you end up with?😀Pretty hard to go wrong with those two options 🍻
I’m putting a fire stove inside the awning part for cold camps and for cooking undercover in the rain, I’m in the process of choosing a stove jack to cut into the awning ceiling. Also looking at the screw in pegs to make things a bit quicker and easier for setup either hexpegs or ground dogs. There’s also an awning you can get for the front but you can’t fit it with the front door in place, I guess you could just unzip the top of the front panel and fit the awning it will stay there with the two velcro tabs on the cross bar. Do you use the bottom loops on the doors? I’m trying to work out how to clip them onto the wall peg loops I’d rather not have any more pegs to put in or do you find you don’t really use the loops on the bottom of the doors.

I haven't felt the need to 'hot-tent' yet but certainly intrigued by the concept. Let me know how it goes. I subscribed to your channel, because I'm curious about FPVs and what you are up to! Where are you based? I havent figured that out yet from the videos yet - Maybe QLD?. PS. 5 months since last video....Would love to see some more :D Regarding wall peg loops, decided to avoid using them where possible. If I set up for more than a few day, probably worth it - but otherwise , I haven't felt the need - it helps a bit securing the walls in when considering wind and rain. @@OTWD hey mate yeah spot on I’m in QLD, went on a hunt last yeah down the nundle state forest nsw and my mate had the large Winnerwell stove in the camper trailer annex, was awesome, one night it was that cold everyone was in there having a few drinks and eating dinner and dessert, I’ve got a canvas tent jack coming from Amazon US so I can still roll up the main awning or roll down the jack flap if I’m not hot tenting, Winnerwell do a sweet kit for a more permanent fixture but with the triple wall flue you can pretty much go against any surface without to much heat, yeah the vid you linked is pretty much spot on what I’m going to do but I’m looking at putting the stove in the corner towards the front panel, he’s got thhe option of moving it around with the s bent I’ve got two 45 deg bends I could do the same if needed, hard choice between the pegs the ground dogs look superior but are much more expensive I like the large thread way less turns and would hold better I think, hex pegs have different sizes where the dogs have only one, there’s FPV is awesome I don’t fly as much as I used too I’ve been more trying to get out and hunt/camp and spend more time outdoors the drones usually come with tho I also fly RC Wings, planes and Heli’s it’s a great hobby.
@@OTWD there used to be a shorter ground puppy peg for ground mats and I believe they are working on the puppy 2 but not 100% sure, you can also thread the orange hook down like a nut if the peg doesn’t go all the way through, I’m likely going the ground dog pegs at this stage, oh and I’ve got stacks of FPV footage just don’t put enough time into making vids lately 🤣
