This didn't work for me, I get stuck at the Starting Windows screen but I appreciate when people share their knowledge to help others so thank you for sharing... I think it's the hard drive, not the process, which is probably why it just shut down in the middle of working and never recovered. Anyway, I saw some of the mean and nasty comments some people left, totally uncalled for and unnecessary and I just wanted to say thanks for trying to help, even the ungrateful, it's more then Toshiba has done. Have a great day

For people complaining this does not work, it only works with newer ones. I think it started when they changed their line to "Leading Innovation" from "In touch with tomorrow"
The newer have a separate "recovery" partition, old ones didn't have this and require the CD

The method that is in this video is the correct one for my Laptop. I just needed the second disk of the two recovery disks, after that I decided to abandon the process in hopes that it was not too far in the process, I got a Boot error, Boot manager is missing, press Ctrl+Alt+Del. I've noticed that I have about 2 options but I'm not sure I they will end up working, get the recovery disks or get my Vista OS installed again, the thing is that the laptop never came with the OS disk just the product key. turn on your laptop and push f2 (alot or once) into you are in the bios, look for the boot opinion and change it from cd/dvd to hdd save then exit. repeat what you learned from this video and you should be able to restore , NOTE this will not work if windows was not factory install on the hard drive. if this is case you will need the boot disks .... hope it work

You don't have to press '0' while turning on the computer to get into the Toshiba Recovery Wizard. You could also press F8 while the computer is turning on so you have the list of options including last known good config, safe mod but also at the top is 'repair computer', that also will launch the Toshiba Recovery Wizard.

Hey Jon,I'm currently doing this to my satellite c655. I did this even before I watched your video. The reason why I searched online for videos similar as yours since I am stuck at "setup is starting services". This is the second time I did this. The first time I did this I was also stuck at "setup is starting services" for almost 4hrs already I thought the computer froze so I interrupted it (silly me). When I tried to turn it on it said the recovery cannot continue because it was interrupted so I started the recovery again. And now I am at that point again. After I Clicked finish at Recovery complete page I left the laptop to do its thing but now it's stuck, It has been 11 hrs since I clicked finish and it is still at "setup is starting services" page. My laptop started running slow when my daughter accidentally dropped it on the floor a few months ago. I decided to do a recovery when it keeps on freezing every time I turn it on. I think the hard drive is damaged.

Thank you, I have an oldish toshiba satellite note book with no cd drive, but with a newer hard drive, the computer kept freezing up. I did not have to do this, but I was told that after a while the computer gets `windows rot`, in other words it picks up registry errors and viruses and such, and doing this cleans it and speeds it up. It is a long process as you have to install possibly years of microsoft updates, but is better than buying a new computer and is worth a shot right?
