I have been looking forward all winter to a new rice fish update!!!! Your medaka videos have been a revelation to me. I live in Seattle US and started keeping medaka outside a little over a year ago. I used a 200 gallon tub like what Aquarium Coop has used, and over-wintered about 30 medaka and 20 gold white clouds. They all did amazing. Now I added 2 mini ponds in pots/bowls like yours and moved all the young medaka into them. I hate to say, but their true potential is lost when they are kept in a regular aquarium. Medaka are so beautiful outside. Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love to see your uncle and his rice fish - and the car! After finding your videos, I ordered some rice fish eggs online - I'm in the US. The postal service was really bad. The package was sent all over the place and then there was the memorial day holiday! My eggs finally arrived. I didn't have much hope for them. What a surprise! Some of the eggs had already hatched and there were four baby rice fish in the tiny little plastic cup they were shipped in. It's now three days later and I have 8 rice fish! I'm so excited. I hope they do as well as yours. Thank you for your in-depth videos on raising these amazing little fish!
Your family's rice fish empire is amazing. mine failed, I'm afraid. I got hair algae, and blue green algae, and it choked out the aquatic plants. I finally moved the remaining rice fish to a tank inside. But I sure love seeing your rice fish ponds!! and thank you again for sharing your uncle!
I really enjoyed this update, thank you! Your uncle's rice fish are beautiful and I like all the different ponds. I have water lily like the yellow flowering one you showed. The leaves are so pretty. I am on the 2nd year of my pond and I worried too much about everything.. Your advice on that is helpful. Do people keep pond snails in Japan? I have them and they are doing well but they seem to breed quickly. Water hyacinth isn't legal in the UK yet but I think we will be able to use it from next year. I'm looking forward to it!
Tell your Uncle I love his orange Volkswagen. Brings back a lot of memories of my younger years. Oh and thank you Ryo for showing us your rice fish too. :)
@@RyoWatanabee Glad to hear that Ryo. I'm sure the weather there is getting milder as well. Thank you for the update. These ricefish updates are one of my favorites. And of course greetings and well wishes to you, your uncle and your aunt too. Stay awesome! 😊
Hi Uncle! Nice to see him & his Bug looks great. I found your channel because of ricefish &, ngl, they are my most anticipated videos of yours. I enjoy all of your content, but I live for the glimpses of these adorable little fish. I'll have my own soon, just waiting for the platinums to arrive in stock.
Nice video, Ryo. I liked it a lot. When I was younger I could pass by an aquarium without even stopping, but in the last few months I discovered that keeping fish is really an awesome hobby and somehow it scratches something which brings me pleasure and satisfaction. I am watching a lot of videos about fish and aquascaping and plan to buy my first tank soon. Your enthusiasm is really inspriring. Keep on going, I am sure I am not the only viewer who enjoys your videos a lot. And say hello to your uncle, he has a really cool car.
Ryo thanks for the update, I have my medakas for year and a half now and I successfully managed to breed them, I got many hybrids with different coloration. I really admire how developed the hoby is in Japan, and how many different types there are. I respect your taste of the natural looking medakas, but to me also it is very fascinating how many different and unique colors there are. It is really a great hobby, so simple and not labor demanding, low tech, and on the other hand so rewarding with having close contact with the fish and it is so interesting to breed them. It is really a perfect fish.
Hi, also chiming in to say this has been very helpful. Seeing how hardy these fish are and the size of pots they live in has been very informative. I ordered some white platinum rice fish from California to north Carolina and kept them in a pond there, and then later shipped them to California where I'm still keeping them as pets in a new pond. They handled the cold freezing winter in north Carolina no problem, as well as 85F water in the summer. I had never heard of rice fish before. Also your uncle is super cool
After having mini-ponds for some years, you inspired me to go looking for ricefish, last year i got Oryzias woworae (did well, but died in a suddden cold snap last september) , this year i managed to get oryzias latipes, white, and nearly 12 Euro per piece! Hope they will breed nicely.
Hi, congratulations, beautiful fish. Fancy choice😊 In my area (West-South-West Germany) it would hardly be possible to keep them outdoor for a longer period without emergency heating. Woworae is way more sensitive towards low temperatures as it comes from warmer regions.
Hi uncle 🙏 love these videos, thanks, I've set up a small pond and I'm adding some rice fish oryzias, I've let my pond establish for a month before adding fish. They cost £10 each in the UK near London, I'll start with 7, I have 70 litres so will add more. I'll see if they breed first I think. Keep us posted on the rice and gold fish.
What are the annual winter lows and summer highs in the area of Japan that your ricefish miniponds thrive outdoors? My garden has 115°F summer highs and 15°F winter lows, will ricefish thrive here?
They have such nice blue eyes. These little ponds are so cool and really good they can survive all year round. What's the lowest temperatures there in the winter? We occasionally get lows in January and February of -5C and I'm worried if I do something similar then the rice fish and plants won't survive.
Would it be a bad idea to put them in a glass container outdoor with hyacinth on top? I'm thinking of doing that but afraid it'll get too hot in a glass container

Love the ricefish
Thank you so much! Is that Norwegian currency? If so, that’s so cool!!
@@RyoWatanabee yes it is. Want to get me some ricefish here in Norway, but not easy to get in this country.

I absolutely love ricefish. And your uncle is awesome! I think you should make him a special guest more often. He would be an internet sensation.
Agreed. I LOVE your uncle, lol. I told him "sayonara."

Great I love your medaka update , in Italy we can find them in many different color and price .
Your uncles car is a beauty! I just got some medaka eggs sent from Japan and have some fry now very excited about it. Looking forward to more updates!
Thanks Ryo, a video that falls at the right time! I hope your life is going great!!! Say hello to your Uncles too! 😊

Thank you! I’m sure there will be lots this year :)
My favorite the mini ponds❤
Great update! Hello Uncle
thats great, nice fish
💕🐟
Great. Love your videos especially about medaka. More of it please! Greetings Form France.
Hi,
congratulations, beautiful fish. Fancy choice😊

That was so cool. Thank you for the little tour of the rice fish bowls!
Lovely to meet your uncle and see his fab Beetle.
I started keeping white rice fishes as i got inspired by your rice fish youtube videos🙂 enjoyed the rice fish updates!
Thank you so much 😊
I was just wondering about your rice fish ponds! 😂 I want to get them so bad but they're not sold at my fish store.
FINALLY! we need more rice fish update! I just got mine and im from the Philippines. So hard to get rice fish here.
Thank you so much ☺️
Really? Philippines has tons of rice paddies. I would think there would be alot of rice fish. No?
unfortunately not much in my area. I could be wrong but I really haven't seen anyone rave about local rice fish.@@ikoyDaPnoy
Hey Ryo! I just came back from visiting Japan on golden week! Passed by Nagoya on the shinkansen and remembered you live there.
Hello, From the StateS..
Thanks For Sharing 🐟 🐟 🐟 🐟
Thanks for watching 😁

My mini pond is doing well,I have lots of little fry now, at least 25..
I think that here in Italy ricefish are very rare, never seen them in the shops, btw I drive a Volkswagen too 😂
i love these ricefish
Finally an update 🎉

Rice fish will handle -5C no problem. They handle cold temps better than hot.
Wow I hope soon you will update on goldfish pond
You’re lucky with Spring starting, over here it’s getting cooler with autumn. I’m not a fan of the cold, give me the tropics any day.
But the winter months are so long here!! 4 months of cold!! 🥶
@@RyoWatanabee winter sucks
Lukyy you got all the cool ones
Nice video 👍
How is the indoor rice fish mangrove looking pond?
Hola.En España es muy muy complicado conseguirlos y cuando llegan solo traen el color salvajes. Me encantan tus videos amigo un gran saludo
These are really cool Ryo!
I might try something very similar to this with White Cloud Mountain Minnows.
White clouds would do great!
@Indoor Ecosystem Please keep us updated. Would love to see how feeder minnows survive in a minipond with only an acrylic cover in winter.
You should go to Ricefish farms!
will you make a video bout dwarf cichlids ?
Hey Ryo how would you set up a new rice fish mini pond? Any substrate or how do you get the cycle started
those fish are very durable and survive anything
Are the fancy type rice fish still hardy to survive outside in the winter?
How do you keep mosquitos from breeding in your pots without a filter to move the water around?
Hello there. Rice fish eat mosquito larvae and mosquito eggs so they help with keeping their population down.
Have you ever tried any rainbows or pseudomugils outdoors? Easy way to breed a ton over summer!
Not yet, but would love to. I'd have to figure out a system to bring them in.
Love your videos, are they surviving during winter?
Yup, they slow down and stay at the bottom but will survive during the winter
Tell your uncle that he has a beautiful car.
Would it be a bad idea to put them in a glass container outdoor with hyacinth on top? I'm thinking of doing that but afraid it'll get too hot in a glass container
Wait wait is that a Honda beat in the back?
That’s correct, my uncles weekend toy 😅
Very Nice...Gretting from Medaka Manufaktur...Germany
i love your uncle lol we need to see him more
What do you do to germinate the water lilys??
Can I know for these ponds, what substrates your aunt and uncle are using?
We don’t put anything in them. Some may put akadama soil or large gravel.
Hi! Do you ship to Thailand?
