RBH Sound Breaks the Bassaholic Sound Barrier with 21-SF/R 21" Subwoofer!

- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- This monster of a subwoofer from RBH Sound excels in both movies and music listening with tight and accurate output. It's ungodly infrasonic output capabilities shattered our Bassaholic room size highest rating so we had to make a new category named Maximus just for this subwoofer!
The UNRIVALED 21-SF/R is built like a tank, weighing in at 371 lbs and built with the highest quality materials. The enclosure is built with two layers of HDF all the way around and incorporates their G.A.D.S. technology for mass loading and acoustic damping with no perceived loss in internal volume. The UNRIVALED 21-SF/R includes RBH's DA-2602DSP with carefully tuned DSP calibration to extract every ounce of performance and can easily get into the single digit frequencies in most rooms. Gene and Shane Rich (Technical Director of RBH Sound) provide a full detailed overview of the new 21-SF/R subwoofer and show some performance measurements. Gene also gives his initial listening impressions and how it transformed the theater room in the Audioholics Smarthome.

A rich man's sub. Checked the site and they want $11,000+
Thats almost the cost of my entire system 🤯🤯
I would like to see a dual opposed Force canceling coffee table version
Hey hey! Looks like all that training with the Shake-Weight is finally paying off!
I appreciate big subs and lots of subs. I have 6 in my theater. My -3dB is like 14 hz. There are folks in my theater club that have their massive bass systems on RUclips channels. The problem? I question how much movie / music material is actually down there. 21 and 24 inch drivers at home? We are chasing 0.01% of material or worse. Don’t get me wrong it’s fun to hear/feel this low stuff. But money is spent better in other areas of your system, in my opinion. Entitled to your own.
That's why BEQ was invented.
These subs a created so you only need to run a few of them instead of having many subs
Believe it or not, the infrasonic impact can be felt even on music. Listening to Drake Fair Trade, you can really feel the impact once the 21" sub is engaged. If you look at my in-room measurements, with and without the 21" sub tracks pretty well above 20Hz but there's a huge gain below 20Hz that can be felt.
@@peterotremba8980 You only need 1 for infrasonics. Above 20Hz, multi-sub is needed for good seat to seat consistency thus you can use smaller subs for that.
@@Audioholics I agree 100%. There are many tracks that dip into the infrasonic levels. Eminem Killshot literally makes the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stand up. It’s a truly chilling experience.
#Amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Looks like a great sub and I'm happy to see more companies producing quality drivers over 18". Now if only we could convince James to review a sub from Deep Sea Sound...
18s are good tho tbh no cap
Nice to see you finally step into real subs, I've been running dual 21s for years in my 2kcf room. Ftw21 drivers in 24cf enclosures
For the small price of $10k 🙃🙃🙃
Imagine 4 of these in a home theater!! 😬
Better go 8. Just to be sure!
this is actually why I usually think what's the point of subs like these? because to get good bass you need multiple subs and that is really unlikely with something like this.
I am thinking that and i am a 2 channel guy! LOL
Better stack 3 on top of each other and place each pack on each corner. 12 Subs in total. You gotta make sure there's enough bass for BASS I LOVE YOU
Nice. Is there more information about the granual fill in the subwoofer box itself? thanks
I will discuss in the formal review.
I have a JTR 4000ULF currently, but I am upgrading to a custom dual 21 RBH. I got to experience the dual 21 prototype at RBH and came away unexpectedly very impressed with the improvement over what my JTR can do in some situations, not that it's bad by any means its still a very impressive sub but I felt it was different enough in the rite area's to justify the price difference between the two. I also feel build quality and overall implemented design are a stepup as well. Now, at this level in home subwoofer size and desired output levels, you can and most likely will pay a lot for incremental improvements in your system. I can think of a few companies that you can spend even more on their reference subs and not get close to the same performance or value of this one!
Yeah good points and RBH definitely did significantly more with the enclosure than Jeff is doing with the JTR
The JTR Captivator 4000ULF absolutely crushes the sub being reviewed here, according to the numbers. It’s nuts how much output the Cap4000 gets.
@scottparsons7825 I can see that point of view for a single 21 based on just max output but the duel 21 will absolutely hold its own against a 4000ULF and actually having the time to experience both subs an many others like them I can say for sure that the CEA numbers don't tell the hole story on this sub or any for that matter. Just Playing the loudest SPL possible at certain frequencies shouldn't be #1 on everyones list because you will potentially miss out on some really good subs out there. Now I have always leaned towards larger ported sub more than sealed subs for HT but I am completely rethinking that preference after experiencing this sub.
I’ve heard the RBH 21” in person and it’s the real deal!
Don’t let the other RUclipsrs hear about you upgrading the JTR! Seems like half the guys out there are sponsored in some way making this hobby difficult to get honest opinions!
@@chriswilson5376you mean like Gene with RBH?? His theater is lined with RBH. Is there a better showcase for RBH than the Audioholics smart home. Come on man! 🤦♂️
Seriously though, these are all great subs when you get to this level. Suggesting JTR is simply to inform people that a similar level of performance is available for considerably less money. We should be steering people towards the cheaper options to drive prices down, not the opposite. Subwoofers are a simple technology and very cheap to build. Asking 10K+ for this sub is borderline insulting imo.
ngl I'm packing dual 18 inch subwoofer tbh that's 6400watts
If it works for your space, having the amp external sure will help longevity.
Out of price range for most people so why advertise it on RUclips 🤣🤣🤣
All that cash for something you cant hesr but your neighbors 4 houses hell 10 houses diwn can feel but cant tell where its coming from i get it i have two god series 3000 rms yes rms each subs in my truck so believe me i get it but not for below 18hz u just pisding folks off then which i like so you sold me lol😅. Nevermind 10k lost your minds go get car subs a power supply and car amp you can get infrasonic for $2500 if you buy the best equipment on the market
The sub plays flat and extremely clean and musical up to 80hz.
Although the cabinet is functional it is seriously ugly... they need to spend more effort, time and money into building a cabinet that is attractive like the Kharma big subwoofers or the Wilson Audio subs
Mine was the preproduction unit. The new ones are much nicer and contoured.
Speaker looks bad ass
I have a pair of these in my bathroom audio system.
Gene, what material did he use inside the sub that was better than Rockwool, etc for absorption? Hoping I could DIY a couple of absorptive panels with it for my room to help with angry neighbors.
I like big subs and I cannot lie!
can you lay it down as a coffee table?
No sample bump?
Wowza, looks like they only do 12'' and 21'', not that I could ever afford them.............
Yea, they need a 15" driver.
@Audioholics - Is it just me? How is it you guys have never reviewed the Rythmic FV18? It's recommended all over the AVS forum... I can't find one reputable person who has reviewed it...
Can't wait till Double D gets his hands on this monster!
YAAAAAAAAAS finally!!!....ok imma watch this now 😂
2:57 "more mass to the enclosure" lol. Top notch editing right there!
I stopped by RBH open house tonight, and I’ve heard multiple demos in their theater…… and WOW!!!!
What a difference that 21” rear made vs the 1212/R that was in the rear. That speaker digs so damn deep. So impressive!
Now that's what we call "AUTHORITY!!!"
Thanks for the video Gene! As a drummer, I appreciate infrasonic impact. (Google Porter&Davies drum thrones. They replaced my dual 18"s that were behind my drums on live gigs to give me that tactile feeling I LOVE.) But in my home, I need smooth response over infrasonic impact. Price-point wise, where do think a good compromise is for getting the best "rumble" with smooth response across the room? 4 x 12", 2 x 18"s, dual opposed vice single ported? etc... LOVE the channel and the FREE CONTENT!!
The prices of these subs are getting ridiculous
Agreed. But if you can swing the price, you will be handsomely rewarded with the best bass of your life.
You can get quad svs pb16s would be cool to have quad 21inch subs but 40k is alot for subs
@@Sc2God724 you could get 8 Monoprice subs or 16 BIC subs or 32 Dayton Audio subs.....
@Audioholics personally had bad experience with mono price subs I run a traditional 5.4 said .4 because of 4 independent subout I run 4 rel predators as they blend in nicely a sub is set next to each tower for maximum blending I personally don't need a lot of output but 4 of these subs would sound amazing I bet
Agreed
Looks like a Fi audio driver (same brand as JTR uses)?
Nope, it's Pierce Audio. Very expensive driver.
pierceaud.io/product/home-theater-series-4k-subwoofers/
Does anyone make a high output sub in a somewhat compact size? It’s seems everything keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Yes, but not at infrasonic frequencies.
To get extreme output and extension you need a larger box, larger/multiple drivers, and higher excursion. This is even more important if you are chasing infrasonics.
I need to hear "Bass, I love you" on this!
nice
Will there be an in wall version of this?
Haha no. They do have a low profile 1212 inwall that uses dual 12" and it rocks.
Cant wait for the formal review with group delay measurements! Nice looking product!
24 exists so it’s time to replace it
bigger doesn't always mean better. Very few 24" drivers have the Xmax of this 21".
@@Audioholics tell him to hurry up then. I've already gotta put in new outlets for a jtr ill be ready
@@Audioholics well said, i only have 34xmax on dual 18s with neo motor structure
@joeydelmarsjr.646 that huge!
@@Audioholics end goal was to feel the chest slam around 55hz and maintain 123db+ from 25hz to 80hz because any lower and the house really rattles
Great video Shane and Gene! That 21” is next level! 😍🍿
I wonder how this performs compared to the perlisten sub
The RBH has a huge output advantage below 30Hz to the Perlisten D215s. But the Perlistens are still awesome, super clean subs with a much nicer fit and finish.
Thanks
Nice sub. Personally, I would take 2x JTR RS2 for under 10K. Heck, even a single RS2 will outperform this at less than half the price.🤔
Pick whatever floats your boat. The choice is endless.
a single JTR RS2 will NOT outperform this RBH sub. It's also not as nicely finished as the RBH. I absolutely love JTR RS1 subs but the RBH is next level, though more expensive and impractically sized for most people without a dedicated theater room.
That’s kind of the point. This sub is nice, but definitely not setting new standards in the performance and/or value categories.
Jeff would need to bring one JTR Captivator 4000ULF to stomp on the Unrivaled 21-SF/R, the RS2 wouldn't do it.
@@Adream-lf3mw RBH has dual ported versions of this sub that would stomp out the JTRs. The physical size is ridiculous and meant for cinema sized rooms, not home theaters.
A $10,000 subwoofer weighing 300 pounds and will shake the foundation? Yes, please! Take my money!
370lbs
More mass 💪🏽 💯
Amazing sub, no doubts at all. However, at that price, I don't see why you wouldn't just get two JTR RS2's. Considering you're into single digit frequencies with the RS2's as well, and 2 subs always going to be better than one (or 4 better than 2).
That's a compelling argument. I do know a guy that has sold his RS2s and got a dual 21" RBH and likes it much better. These are all great products in their own regards...
Yah Youthman's setup goes down to 5hz flat with RS2's but maybe other people want more output than his system at that frequency.
@justinbeamon6624 most microphones aren't very accurate below 20hz and measuring down to 5Hz is well in the noisefloor of UMIK.. The JTR subs do not play lower than the RBH. It's all in how you apply boost. I could get flat 4hz extension with more boost, but it's overwhelming in my room.
There are many many options and there is always something better. 2 well placed RS2’s is definitely the way to go over a single RBH 21”. I believe Gene is only using the 21” to cover the infrasonic range, so he is probably covered with just the single 21”.
A single RS2 is likely to have very similar performance to this sub as well, for those of us who are on a tighter budget.
Oh wow... My home will get earthquakes if i put those monster in it.... Nice
Cool sub... For 10k, I wonder how these compare to the Funk Audio line...
Probably very similar. The Funk/Harbottle driver is a 24” - not sure what the xmax on the Harbottle driver is, but I would suspect that it’s less than the 38mm of the RBH.
What a Joke. I would rather buy a 21inch from Harbottle, Deep Sea sound & Funk. Or i could four JTR subs or four PSA subs, much better than ONE subwoofer lol what a shill.
Hope it makes you feel better to insult content creators when you can't afford the products we cover.
@@Audioholicsi agree with lackdats sorry Gene. I would rather have four awesome subs than one epic sub.
@@vader540is What if a person already has 4 awesome subs and wants to add infrasonic? :) You're argument is akin to someone that slams a Ferrari owner bc the car is too expensive and you could get 4 Corvettes for the same price. I'd rather have the Ferrari, personally.
@@Audioholicsit’s arguable which sub on that list is the Ferrari. Funk maybe?? Lol
That said, I’m a performance/value first guy, so I’m taking the JTR. I will never own a PSA, because I absolutely loathe the owner of that company.
@@Audioholics infrasonic? My buddy can get down to 8hz with his two Harbottle subs which are cheaper than one RBH 21 sorry gene lol
Glorious 21" subwoofer aside where can I get that T-Shirt? Although the Harbottle Audio 24" subwoofer is obviously larger a comparison at some point would be great.
More mass😂😂😂 Way to slip that image in there 😂😂
🤣😂MASS😂🤣
I'm a metalhead who loves bass but only if it's tight and fast. Bass has to be in the correct proportion to mids and treble. Crazy bass good for movies and caddies. Just buy some Marshall stacks like a Slayer show.😂
I use class-D car audio amps in my home theater, I run 4 15" subs, 2 in the front and rear. I sold my home amps because the output was garbage. they are 3000 watts each, and very accurate.
They make class
D pro/home amps that can run on 120 or 240v.

Only the cone looks similar. The frame and the motor looks completely different.
More MASS! 💪
MORE MASS : ...Outttakes: I cant fit your head in (too much mass)
That whole issue of messing house vibration/foundation from the bass; I already get this (grouting comes out from bricks in garage) from my 2x SVS PB2000
overpriced
With a sub like the Funk Audio 24"LFE Ultra being similarly priced but with probably much higher output especially at 30hz and below, would you say it to is over priced when compared to the RBH 21?!
Everything is overpriced when you can't afford it! Hahaha 😂😂😂😂
@@ricardomolina4605 thay is the stupidest argument. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't pay that money even if u had it
@@wendohgermaine6448 the Funk is much larger, but that is definitely the way that I would go if they were similarly priced. The Funk being ported will have substantially more output down low and the added tactile that comes with a ported box. It’s a no brainer for a home theater application imo.
Then again, a JTR 4000ULF is an even better option than the Funk for roughly half the money. I went the JTR route myself.
Wow...only in my wildest of dreams...of hitting the lottery lol
Getting one to put in the back of my Civic!
Pop-a-wheelie
LOL
Take out the passenger seat so you can have two!
Spikes😮 Yikes.
That is so last century.
It should be common knowledge today that spikes are a disaster.
Cones and No concern at all. the have a flat bottom to not damage your flooring.
@@Audioholics
Ah, you thought I was concerned about damaging the floor. No, I was not.
It´s about transferring vibrations to the floor. The floor should not vibrate.
The importance of soft feet depends on the type of floor. For a concrete slab, not very critical. For a wooden floor, spikes transfer a lot of vibrations into the floor.
Soft feet made of Sylomer has very interesting properties.
@@chrisssinstockholm I actually prefer the floor being tactile and miss having my theater on the 2nd floor. Concrete slab you completely lose that and as a result you tend to have to raise bass level to compensate.
@@Audioholics You're just compensating for the standing wave holes and the absorption of the vibrations being sucked into the floor. Not beneficial to phase coherence, response, or anything. Preference is, of course, personal.
@genesound amazing you're able to analyze the Acoustics of my room and my listening impressions by looking at a thumbnail image on a RUclips presentation. Congrats on your Sherlock Homes deductions.
RBH Sound SX-1212-R 99.6dB @ 12.5Hz, 107.7dB @16Hz and 112.8dB @20Hz vs. RBH Sound Unrivaled 21-SF/R 100.7dB @ 12.5Hz, 108.5dB @16Hz and 115.3dB @ 20Hz.
That's an increase of 1.1dB @ 12.5Hz, .8dB @ 16Hz and 2.5dB @ 20Hz. For $6k you are hardly going to notice the difference in output. Additionally, you are hardly ever listening to anything that produces content that low anyway. Today's woke Hollywood movies aren't giving you infrasonic content.
CEA2010 doesn't account for room gain advantage a true sealed sub has over ported. Look at my in-room measurements at and below 20Hz with and without the sub engaged. I get a +10dB boost of infrasonic bass NOT possible with the 1212 and I barely have it boosted.
First of all, a side note. If I may please speak bluntly. The shirt you have would never have been endorsed or created under Charles Schultz. After he passed, most of the Peanuts went away from the real intent and moral absolutes of Charles Schultz and the Peanuts. The Beatles definitely had some indifference and cultural immorality, often not recognized and understood. There is so much I could get into from decades of experience into these groups, but the Peanuts, while Charles Schultz was alive, was always better overall.
So no questions about the sub then👌 got it
