LTR 450 Troubleshooting Fuel System

  • I don't know about the LTR 450 if you're still still can be very picky. After completing my motor build, I was having problems getting my machine to start. This is a process that I used to check my fuel system with success. I hope this can help others.

    Just so everyone knows myn was as simple as the fuel filter so everyone please check that ! I pulled my whole bike apart replaced the fuel pump,injector and fuel regulator can’t stress this enough make sure your fuel filter is tight 😂

    you are the man, wasted so much time and money trying to figure out what was wrong with my bike, would've rev up only idle, it was the fuel regulator the whole time. thank you for this video

    Solid vid man ! Fighting my LTR issue, but its a little different than yours. I have very very random just cut/shut offs. Tends to be when im coming to a rolling stop after getting on the throttle. Then she starts back up, no hard start, no bogging. I'm starting to thing that its an electrical issue, but i like the way you tested a few things here, think im going to give it a shot. awesome vid!!

      Are you sure you are having food fuel pressure. Sound like a low pressure issue to me. Mine used to cut off after full throttle. That pressure valve is what I would change but check the pressure if you can.

      @@juicer911 yeah man so i actually checked after watching your vid - it holds but pump and the FPR both have the slowest drops. Are they supposed to hold the psi, or slowly drop?

      @@andrewabreu6678 I’m pretty sure they should hold. Maybe the O-ring on the inside of your pump is going bad.

    I just got my first ltr. It will fly. Runs awesome and everything but this unit will not idle. Changed fuel pressure reg. Fuel pump runs. Runs the three seconds and cuts off. I bump start it using second gear take off and go everywhere do whatever. I come to a stop and it will just die.

      The replacement is an OEM equivalent. There is not OEM gut available. The ones from Craig at WitherowPowerSports has a lifetime warranty.

    Mine starts hard when I run it for like 20 mins or more. And my pipe becomes red about 7in from head and it’s aftermarket header and slip on? What could cause that? You think the hard starting could be something with the fuel pressure regulator?

      Lean for some reason possible. Check your fuel pressures. Those are good, depending on your modifications, it may need more fuel. Or some heater pipes or just thinner material and OEM.

      I forgot to mention it also has a cherry bomb plug in if that make any difference

    Is the clutch side and oil reservoir supposed to be isolated? When I fill my clutch side the reservoir level rises

    My ltr 450 will not run unless I unplug fuel pump, if fuel pump is unplugged it will idle and rev a little. (If I try to start it all hook up it’s get way to much fuel and won’t fire up).( If I have it idle with fuel pump unplugged and try to plug fuel pump back in it dies)My regulator is holding pressured 42psi. Injector clicks

      Are you sure you’re using the right plug? The fuel pump and the fuel injector plug are pretty much the same

    Hi Kenny this is Jeremy I was just wondering if you had the top black cap on the fuel pump the that has the two nipples and then the plugin for the wires coming from the top I'm just lacking that plastic piece

    whatever yall do don't buy a cheap injector buy the oem one you are going to end up wasting a lot of money replacing regulator,gas pump, etc just for it to be the cheap injector i bought one and mine only runs when you disconnect the aps

      Oh yea. When it comes to electronics, I try and avoid the cheap cheap stuff. Nothing but OEM with the catering components

    so i have an 08 LTR450. my mechanic just did a full engine rebuild on it. fires up and idles but it is running super lean, it shoots out 2 feet flames when you rev it up. idles way way high with the idle screw all the way down. he told me it isn't getting enough fuel, the pump was good. and the injector was good. so he said pressure regulator. did you have high idle issues before you changed out your regulator?

      I would say to do the checks yourself. Don’t go based off what he said. People tend to lie. If you have done the swirl filter, delete, first thing I would do is check that filter and make sure it’s not clogged. Then Check your pressure on your regulator, remove the injector and clean it. The fuel pump is a little more difficult to explain how to repair or check. But you can make sure it’s at least getting 8 ounces and 10 seconds of flow.

    I went to a shop and told them when my engine is cold it takes a while to start but when it’s hot it starts right up they said valve adjustment

      Or weak battery. Usually when is valves, it starts easy, but it is hard to start once warm.

      I downloaded boot camp. It allows for a partition to install windows on a MAC temporarily.

    I'm having problems with my ltr450 it's not getting fuel to the injector I just replaced the fuel pump fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter I have pressure in the lines it's just not getting to the injector, injector works tested it with a 9 volt battery and sprayed carb cleaner thru it,

      I can’t remember exactly. But I think that they are 20s in the front and 19s in the rear.

    You have an idle screw on yours? What were you adjusting to lower the idle there?

      There is an idol screw on the back of the throttlebody. A flat head screwdriver should fit there.
