2014 Chevrolet Silverado V6 my son drove the truck after the flash engine light was flashing for two days and then the truck shut off and he had it towed. I went and checked the truck out and ran a scan on the truck showed P305 and P 300. I found cylinder one and cylinder three coil packs bad so I changed all the plugs and the wires also they were fouled and very dirty and looked to be original. I checked to make sure that I was getting spark and I was. I tried to start the truck and it would just turn over with no start. I checked the mass airflow sensor and sprayed it out with mass airflow sensor cleaner. I also change the camshaft positioning sensor. Still no start. Any ideas
I tried starter fluid still no start

LMAO I agree. Theirs a few tips or tricks some people should know tho. Sometimes a bad fuel pump relay etc can be fixed temporarily by tapping or reseating. And yes banging a starter while trying to crank many times does work. Saves you a tow but will not solve the problem.
I've done it on diesel automatic semis many times. Whack that think with a rubber mallet while somebody trys to start it. It'll almost always fire. Fuel Pump relays can be intermittent. Pulling it and reseating it or tapping it on ground sometimes may get that pump to start working. But again lol your still broken. Gets you to the local parts store tho with out a tow.
What he's doing is showing you hard way. Listen for a hum before turning your car to crank position. No humming. It's almost always 1 of the 3. Bad Pump, Bad Relay, Bad Fuse.

The other thing you can do is bang on the center of the fuel tank and in most cases the engine will fire. When you hit the tank the brush assembly in the electric motor will make contact again and the vehicle may start and run. I used this technique to get off of a busy street when my car died so I could get off of the main road and stop blocking traffic.

This doesn't always mean it's a fuel pump or fuel filter I thought the same thing but after replacing everything to do with fuel the pump filter pressure regulator pump relay fuses still doesn't wanna start but wants to start on starting fluid so I'm down to either fuel injectors aren't getting a pulse or their clogged but also something else is bothering me when I test the fuel pump relay and try to hear the fuel pump prime when key is turned to the on position relay doesn't click or fuel pump doesn't prime now If I use a jump wire on relay my fuel pump runs constantly but with that jump wire with fuel pump running I checked fuel pressure from valve after the pressure regulator fuel spits out very fast so its getting fuel pressure with jump wire but won't start still so back to injectors either not getting power to pulse which since my fuel pump relay won't click when I turn key is making me think it's electrical not getting power to the relay and what powers the relay pcm or ecu are next in line for electrical problems maybe I had an electrical problem this whole time and only thought I had a fuel related problem because I did this test spraying starting fluid so just because it wants to run on fluid doesn't always mean it's fuel related and in some cases on econiline vans have are bad grounds also saw a video of a guy who showed a bad ground but mine looks good from the bottom but I lift up the plastic above where the ground lead is attached underneath van and I see a bunch of rust so I'm wondering if I have a bad ground because of all the rust

this is right , as a matter of a fact when my truck stopped running and had ford garage check it a mechanic sprayed starting fluid in it almost the same way and it started , it was the fuel pump that was bad , the truck started after the starter spray was sprayed in . the fuel pump was replaced and runs good now. the reason maybe the guy unhooked the relay was to keep the truck from starting on purpose to show an example of what happens if no fuel is going to the engine , and that spraying starter fluid will help you check this type of situation. he is correct . .

What if the 25.00 cam sensor is bad. The cam sensor is the main input for the injectors. A fuel pump module can run 3 to 400.00. Using starting fluid only tells you if you are or aren't getting fuel in the cylinders. Remove timing and compression questions. I use starting fluid as one diagnostic tool. Not the only one.

    • @JohnSmith-fb2np

Pick up if the cam sensor is working?
Short answer ...yes. cam sensor codes are P034x or on the 0340 to 345 range. So if there is a fault, it might.
      Yes, there is a BUT.
Sometimes the sensor is intermittent or barely within parameters and it won't set a code. So the diagnostic steps I use are
      1. Starting fluid
      2. Pressure test fuel system
      3. Noid light to check injector circuit.
These steps will give you a picture of what's happening.

that describes my 2001 ranger to a T. When the weather is warm, it starts just fine. Once we get cold temps, it will only start if I use starting fluid. but once it starts, it runs just fine. Is my fuel pump really the problem? The fuel pump must be pumping fuel once it starts running because it doesn't die.... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! FYI, I have replaced the fuel filter.

I use this method as a diagnostic tool on a petrol engine to check if the ignition system is working, it 'could' help in diagnosing a bad fuel pump ? But it's not a hard and fast diagnosis that 'you have a bad fuel pump' there's a few more variables of what could be wrong ..... great video though 👍👍

Thisw 2works ok as an early test. It proves that you have spark. It eliminates that entire system. How ever it only proves that the fuel system is not working. Mor4e testing needs to be done to prove what fuel component is the malf. Many things can cause the pump not to run.

WD-40 a bit safer than starting fluid.
to my surprise it works well on 4 stroke gas engines.
Diesel? not so much on cold start, but it helps & leaves a little lube that ether [starting fluid] removes.

It can be multiple things actually. Mine is doing that right now but my fuel pulp turns on and my car will run until you shut it off then there is no power to it anymore. Last time my car wouldnt start and wasnt getting any fuel it was because of my egr. It can be many problems, it can also be getting vapor locked from the canister.

    • @mr.stirfry9310
      @mr.stirfry9310 4 года назад

Just to add on to this, make sure no fuel line is touching anything hot. If you you can use a hanger to space it off of the heat. It can make it vapor lock. Check all sensors not just the relay. Make sure your fuel filter is not clogged as well and that there are no tears in your wiring.

Your not 100% right, what you have determined is that you have a fuel delivery problem. Corroded injector harness, blown fuse controlling injector, harness at fuel pump and a few others. Describing it this way may lead DYI’s on the wrong path and pull tank , put new pump in and still no start. Starting fluid , as others have said may not be good if used incorrectly, get air intake cleaner or injection cleaner, less volatile but still combustible to achieve what your describing and greatly reduces accidents
