I love when kids have alternative interests besides tractors and trucks. My son is obsessed with bagpipes. Yup. Bagpipes. And all things Scotland really but primarily bagpipes. He is 7 and has never been to Scotland.
aaaah im watching this before i go to dress rehearsal for the nutcracker and im so excited!!!! there really needs to be more gender diversity in ballet and seeing rupert enjoy it warms my heart so much as a nonbinary ballet dancer 💕
i went on a google deep dive because i couldn't remember what it was called but i had an AMAZING book when i was little called 'i want to be a ballerina' by rosie mccormick! it's a pop up book with BEAUTIFUL illustrations, i think you can only get it second hand now but it's a really lovely book if you can find it!
It's the part he "lifts" you for me, this whole video is so precious 😭😍 Rupert will keep growing up knowing he is loved and respected, a huge thumbs up to his mamas!
this is nit-picky for sure but i would always recommend washing bedding before you put it on because you never know what chemicals or dyes the factory uses that may not have fully washed off. also as someone with allergies to detergent, its just the best way to know it doesnt have anything that could irritate yours or your cutie’s skins! beautiful makeover though! so glad you’re showing him how much hes loved ☺️❤️
Oh yeah, that was my only issue with this video, too. Also even if the chemicals used were not bad, all the dust from the factory line has probably gathered in the fabric. But the design itself was cute and will surely bring joy.
As a ballet-loving person(and hopefully soon-to-be-novice), whos been watching so much ballet related content, this made me smile unbelievably big. What a beautiful video 🥹❤
You guys are so intentional and thoughtful in all and everything you’re doing for your son, that seems exhausting being that conscientious and I’m so impressed, you are both wonderful parents ♥️
That last line in the book you mentioned made me burst into happy tears. What the heck? I love so much how attentive both of you are to Rupert's growing interests. Obviously, that's what parents do, but seeing the special love and care going into every piece and every decision is so heartwarming. Excuse me while I go blow my nose. 😭🤧😍
love Claudia's polar bear jumper! I also loved nutcrackers as a little kid, they were so fascinating to me for some reason, we still have a few for Christmas.
this reminded me of my mom spending weeks meticulously copying a bunch of sea creatures into a mural for the bedroom i shared with my siblings when we were kids the colors are faded and the wall is stained from water damage and age but it's still there, must be close to twenty years old now
My Montessori daughter, and her Montessori son....he can even walk to his Montessori school as it is across the street...he goes to his bureau and the first top and first bottom. Always what is on top. Not a care, but he has shown us all from age 2 that that he loves MATH.
Thank you for sharing such sweet family moments with us. It is lovely to see how much you care for and love each other. And as an owner of no less than 40 full size nutcrackers, I agree with Rupert that you need more of them throughout your house. 😬
Wowzie, three year old me was just hiding under tables, rolling on the ground and asking brutal questions. Compliments to you guys and your cutely sophisticated toddler 💛
This is making me remember ballet class when I was a kid. We never did The Nutcracker, but I ended up with lots of ballet-themed dolls and room decor as gifts.
My five year old son was the only boy in his ballet class. He had the opportunity to perform in a local show where he was teamed up with another boy, and they really enjoyed dancing together! I asked his teacher, “how many children do you need to run a boys’ class?” because I thought he’d love it. The teacher told me she’d need ten sign-ups, and do you know, I did it! I found ten little lads who like leaping around. Quite a big feat in south east London! So, the new class has been running weekly since the summer. What did my son say? “I miss the girls’ class!” Oops 🤦🏻♀️
Ooh this is an excellent idea. Another RUclipsr I watch, grav3yardgirl, did a paper doll dress up book years ago. It was published by Dover Publications. Each outfit had a little blurb written by her telling you about it. It's one of my favourite merch pieces ever. This would fit so so perfectly for Jessica!!!
I always had the low hanging rods in the closet so my kids could choose their own clothes. I found that anything Hanna Anderson got worn first. Followed by Gap clothes. Primarily because they had soft or no tags and were brightly colored and soft.
Oh, i love this so much. My oldest has danced since she was 7, 25 now. My boys both danced and everyone was in the Nutcracker for years, even my husband. My 14 yr old son still dances but not as much. They both still help with our Ballet company's Nutcracker every year and live seenew you ger boys dancing. They had several male Ballet role models. If you can, our Nutcracker was on the national news NBC Nightly News. Our area was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Rupert's room is wonderful! Happy Christmas
So fun to watch, the casualness especially. Makes it much easier to watch and follow, and gives it a cosy vibe. And watching this reminded me of a show i used to watch called dance academy, all about ballet and they were inclusive as well👌 And true, a lot of children's literature, though they have amazing art style, are actually really abstract drawings, and contain stories that don't make sense, don't have a beginning and an end, or use sentence that are too long with or complex(since anyone can write a book, they're not all equal when it comes to educational value). In my classes we also were taught to use more realistic drawings when teaching kids new vocab. And with animals, use of actual photographs was advised instead of drawings Seeing the cupboard reminded me of my own cupboard. 85% rarely used, 15% of the same things, but it does help having a section of ready to wear things, makes it much less overwhelming👌🤓
Baby he is adorable !!! I absolutely need you to know that there is a Nutcracker musical book that play the song of the opera fitting for the scene on each page, it's been a blast with my students. The merch looks lovely tho I have absolutely no more money
This mad me so so so happy! Thank you letting him experience his interests it's hoping to and does bring so much joy! Also love thr books selection. One of hem reminds me of my childhood! Love books
If his love for nutcrackers continues, you can consider 1 new nutcracker each year. My adult offspring still enjoy bringing out their collections for the holiday season.
Wonderful video thanks for sharing! Can I recommend a book called 'Dogs don't do ballet' it's a lovely story about a little girl and her dog who loves to dance. ❤
Love the Nutcracker Duvet and pillow. Those are gorgeous!! So is the rest of the room. And Rupert is adorable!! That dancing at the end was also adorable.
i read so many animal themed books as a child - could this be the source of my deep empathy/connection for animals??? it was geniunely verging on stronger than for humans lol
How long do you plan to keep having a video baby monitor in his room? We are at the beginning of this journey but not sure how you know what age to stop!
This is so adorable. Rupert looks so pleased 😊. I was wondering as a chronically ill/disabled girly myself who’d like children some day too, as Rupert is growing, is he noticing things about your health, does he get worried. How do you and Claudia deal with that on the regular.
Hey, I can talk a bit about having a disabled/chronically ill Mom. (She had MS) When I was young, I was not scared or worried that she was ill or couldn’t walk. Her being in bed or having bad days was just how she was. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. Weirdly, when my Dad was in the hospital for some sort of intestinal thing, that made me super upset. He was the healthy one, he wasn’t supposed to be sick, my Mom was. I will say my parents were very open about my Mom’s illness so it was never anything that I wondered about. ❤
Part of me is waiting for the time when Rupert is older and stops being this perfect angelic child. Jessica and Claudia seem to have missed all of the things typical toddlers do like throwing tantrums, making messes, and breaking things.
Just because they don’t show it, doesn’t mean that those things don’t happen. And even if they don’t happen, why would you say that you want it to happen? That is a very unkind thing to say.
I think the whole 'you can only understand something if its an actual real human doing actual real human things' is rather an oversimplification and doesn't give kids enough credit. I read a lot of books with animal protagonists when I was little, and fantasy as I started reading by myself, and I did not struggle to understand the difference between fiction and reality. I loved Peter Rabbit for a while, but I did not think that the cartoonish character was the same thing as the rabbits I saw out in the fields. Imagining that a character like Peter Rabbit could exist helped me to extend empathy to things that I couldn't fully understand. Surely, learning how to sympathise with, accept, and be kind to people even if you can't immediately put yourself in their shoes is a desirable thing? Similarly, I think books which showed different animals with different ways of interacting with the world getting along and mucking together was an opportunity for a grounding in multiculturalism and the social model of disability. It probably would have been a better grounding if there were more books written with non-human protagonists from the past 20 years or so, but there has been such a trend away from allowing them that it's hard to get books which are more actively conscious of these sorts of themes, or have these themes without other problematic aspects.
HA! I just finished making a brown nativity scene for a friend. It was all she wanted for the holiday, and I made it out of felted wool so her children could play with the pieces
is nonrealistic art/illustrations an issue for montessouri? i guess there's some flexibility since the nutcracker isn't realistic either. i'll have to be careful if i'm giving anything to children raised this way
Clothing choices are not going to overwhelm him. You only think that because your own outfits are so important to your sense of self but most people aren't like that to that degree and tiny children never are. Controlling the options is fine, but only giving 2 options is just BEING controlling. You don't think he'll get overwhelmed, you think YOU will get overwhelmed. If he's old enough to be requesting decor for the house he's old enough to be given more choice with his clothes.
It sounds like Montessori mostly just avoids strongly humanizing animals. I don't think a book featuring a cat necessarily breaks that guideline as long as the cat isn't like standing in two legs and wrapping presents. Plus it's important to include books featuring animals for kids because it helps them feel connected and empathize with them and nature in general. It's also possible she just doesn't follow that guideline as strictly. Everything is ok in moderation
That’s not true. Genetics plays a role in what you’re talented at and interested in even if you are apart from blood relatives and not influenced by them.
Definitely not me crying on my lunch break when he said, “it’s completely what I wanted 💜”
This melted my heart. Oh my goodness, what a happy little boy he is. Blessings to you, your wife, and your little one!

@ good point, they always do have that dusty smell right out of the bag, plus washing them softens them, so its a win-win
As a former Nutcracker/Ballet obsessed 3 year old and a still Nutcracker/ballet obsessed adult, I agree with Rupert. I also think it's nic❤️
ohh that clip of you two dancing at the end is soo precious 💖 thank you for sharing these moments with us while still keeping his privacy
3:00 He's just testing the toys to make sure they're good enough for future siblings 😂
Exactly!

I grew up with the royal ballet but never had a room like this 😭😂 YOU ARE AMAZING PARENTS!
My dears, you are still both as upper organized!
Thank you for the tour though! Everything in my life is messy right now, and it was so calming to.
*Super* organized!!
Shaky hands

Super adorable! Watching this was literally the most xmas-y thing I've done this year, so that was really nice.
I love that he loves the Nutcracker
This was delightful! He is one lucky boy! This brought me a lot of joy 🙂❤️

Heads up on identifying info at 3.30 you might have wanted to omit x
Commenting to make this more visible to Jessica
Cookie crumbs for the comment, boost!
I hope she sees this!
That’s information they’ve shared on purpose before (assuming you’re referring to the name/birthdate)
Guys when Rupert was born they posted that cross stitch as part of the announcement with his DOB
If his love for nutcrackers continues, you can consider 1 new nutcracker each year. My adult offspring still enjoy bringing out their collections for the holiday season.

You have such a cute family, my goodness! A Happy Christmas to you all

Oooh i need to check out how the shipping works for the new merch. Really would like some of the floral tees

I think you'll need a storage bin just for all the nutcrackers lol
This is adorable! Will Rupert start ballet lessons?
💖

Where is the paper popup tree from?(beside nutcracker)
I like all new merch equally. Rupert's room is a child's dream. BTW any queer and lesbian meaning of peonies?
Where do you keep the rest of his books?
You might want to blur his info and rerelease❤
@@doravalencia2214 they’ve shared his full name and DoB on purpose before. That’s not something they’re trying to keep private.

Hello.

Don’t you just love it when people, who don’t know your child, have all sort of opinions on how you should raise your own child??
I'm a bit confused. Firstly you said his books have human protagonists but then there's a book about a cat's Christmas.
It sounds like Montessori mostly just avoids strongly humanizing animals. I don't think a book featuring a cat necessarily breaks that guideline as long as the cat isn't like standing in two legs and wrapping presents. Yeah its a book about a cat that acts like a cat. Not a humanoid cat that acts like a human. The idea is to not confuse.
Silly question is the donor father a ballet fan or dancer. It might be a hereditary trait or a toddler thing like Thomas the Tank engine.
Interests like this aren't really hereditary as far as we know. A kid's interest is much more based on their environment than anything genetic
That’s not true. Genetics plays a role in what you’re talented at and interested in even if you are apart from blood relatives and not influenced by them.
