As a German, in the traditional story I was told as a kid, she first tries to kill the frog at dinner by throwing him into her soup and making it a soup with cooked frog, she does this after she asks her dad the king, if he would please call the cook to catch the frog and boil him, but he declines, also she doesn't put him into the corner but throws him into it, then when he jumps on the bed, well you already know this part, after she slammed him at the wall, she also tries to kill him by hitting him with her pillow (and in some versions she tries to pierce him with a knife into the wall). In the end the frog turns into a prince and it is revealed that as a young boy he had a very violent attitude against most of God's creatures (humans, animals, etc.), so he was put under a curse turning him into an animal, until he has experienced the same amount of violence and neglection.
When he turns into a prince he is so happy about that, that he marries her, besides her trying to kill him numerous times. (I remember a satirical version of this famous fairy tail making fun about this part.)
In the end Heinrichs iron bands were only stable enough to hold the powers of sadness, but not those of happiness, because they are boundless, so he explodes.
The rest is like explained in the video.

I would like to add that there was one lady who lived in New Orleans who grew up in a poor family and dreamed of having a restaurant she worked hard and eventually earned enough to start the restaurant. It became extremely popular and famous, Obama and other famous people have dined there, and her restaurant was part of the inspiration for the princess and the frog. I have been to the restaurant and there is an illustration of tiana and the owner of the restaurant sitting down where tiana thanks her for the ideas for the movie. The picture was given to her by Disney and the directors and animators

In both versions of the story, the princess is violent to the frog. In the original, the princess tries to kill the frog by throwing him against the wall. In the Disney version, Tiana tries to smash Naveen with a book, strangle him with her hands, and almost left him to be eaten by alligators.

When I was a kid I really liked the retelling of this fairy tale done by "Adventures from the Book of Virtues" TV show.
In that retelling the story is mostly the same until the Princess and the Frog get to her room, where she places him on an uncomfortable bench instead of her soft bed (his request was to simply sleep on the most comfortable pillow instead of in bed with her). While the Frog is thanking the Princess for her most comfortable pillow (while he's shifting around uncomfortably), the Princess feels guilty for being dishonest thanks to the words of her father and she places him on the bed explaining that she was sorry for her dishonesty and that this new pillow was the most comfortable she had. At that moment he transforms into a Prince, shocking everyone. The former Frog explains that because he had once been dishonest to a fairy he was cursed to be a Frog until he found someone who could understand the value of keeping promises. Then it's back to marriage, etc. but no Iron Heimlich.

Is it time to tell you, that we germans have a much longer version? So... after throwing thee Frogprince on the wall and he transformes back he is like: "No way I marry a spoiled child like you" and got picked up by Heinrich. Heinrich took him back to his castle but the princess started to follow them because she was sorry and fall in love with the Beauty of the prince. But she lost track and cried when mother sun took pity on the princess. She brought her back on track and gave her a magic egg that she should use then she needed help. So the princess went on, but lost track again. Again she cried and this time father moon took pity. The brought her back on track and also gave her a magic egg to use then she needed it. So the princess moved on and wonder oh wonder: got lost! This time brother wind was like: "I'll do it right!" an brought her to th castle of the frogprince. There she got her third magic egg and went into th castle. But she was that dirty, that thy mistook her for a servent girl.
The prince meanwile got an other princess to marry her in 3 days. So our princess took the first egg from the sun and out came a beautyful golden dress. That dress got the attention of the bride and she demanded to take th dress. Our princess agreed but only if she could spend the night nexto the prince. The bride was like: "Sounds fair" and so she spend the night nexto her sleeping prince crying and begging for his forgivness. Next day she took the egg from the moon and got a stunning silver dress. Again the bride wanted the dress and was fine with the other girl sleeping nexto her boyfriend. So angain the princess layed down nexto ther sleeping prince and begged for his forgiveness. So the last day befor the wedding came and the princess used her last magic egg from wich she got the prettiest wedding dress on earth. The bride was like: "I NEED THAT! Same as usual?" But this time the prince got the feeling something was wrong. He pretended to sleep while the bride and the princess switched places and heared the princes crying, begging his forgiveness and wishing him the best for his days because he deserved better than a spoiled child like her. Now the prince was like: "thats what I wanted to hear!" He cancled the wedding, took his princess and went back with her to her fathers kingdom to marry her. on the way back we got the sceane with the iron breaking from Heinrichs heart and all lived happiely ever after...

Technically Faciiar’s magic is more correctly called Hoodoo. Voodoo is an Afro Caribbean religion combining tribal beliefs with Christianity, particularly Catholicism magic is fairly common in the religion but it’s not a necessary part. Hoodoo is a form of magic combining African practices with European folk magic and witchcraft. Once again it’s possible to practice hoodoo without being a member of the Voodoo religion, indeed some neo pagans and even Catholics use some of the charms without delving into the religious side. As an aside Facilier’s appearance was inspired by Baron Samedi one of the most important loa (spirits worshipped in Voodoo But not technically gods) the loa of cross roads, magic and the dead (he’s actually kind of a party animal with a fondness for rum and tobacco odd for a patron of the dead). His shadow taking on a life if it’s own btw is something out of European myths about witches.

@@lunayen It's probably primarily confined to Louisiana, where Hoodoo as well as Voodoo are prevalent. It would stand to reason that, over time, they would "overlap," if you will, with Catholicism in common practices. Many of the charms and spells in Hoodoo call upon the saints, something neighboring Catholics can relate to.

Everything was like the original, only when he asks to sleep in her bed, the princess gets mad and throws him. He hits her mirror and the mirror breaks, cutting him. The princess feels bad about the whole thing and kisses the frog, so he transforms back to a handsome prince.

The princess not knowing this ended up kissing the frog but sadly cause her bracelet SHE became a frog as well and went on these adventures to find a way to break the curse, learning about her family curse along the way.

I feel for E.D. Baker - the only thing they kept after optioning the film rights to her book is that the girl gets turned ito a frog instead of breaking the spell on the guy.

The version I grew up with just had the princess silently torelated the frog’s demands until one night when the both of them were in their bed, she heard the frog weeping and asked him about it, which the frog said he knew that deep down, the princess still hates him and is disgusted by him, making the frog regretted his wish and he would return to the pond, to be lonely again if the princess wish for him to do so.
The princess heard the frog weeping, began to pity him and kissed the frog in the head to consoled him and that when he turned into a prince. This one is pretty soft and wholesome.

The Frog Princess was one of the few movies my childhood self stopped watching when it got too terrifying. (That very short list list also includes Up and...Stuart Little? Why were those the movies that freaked me out? IDEK.) I really want to go back and rewatch it now.

The disney version wasn't based off of the original tale, it was based off a nother adaption by E.D. Baker.
Basically, a clutzy princess named Emma (Tiana) who was disliked by her mother for being terrible at everything and only loved by her aunt spent a lot of time in a swamp until she met a sarcastic talking frog there named Eadric (Naveen). Eadric begged her to kiss him so he could be human, which she did on the second day of his pleas. However, because she was wearing a magic charm that reversed any negative spells, it conked out and turned her into a frog as well. The story follows their travels to a witch's hut where they met a bat and a snake (Ray and Louis). After escaping imprisonment by the witch once realizing it wasn't the same witch who turned him into a frog, they travel back to the palace, where Emma's aunt (Charlotte aka Lotti) figured out how to turn them human again. Once they did kiss 2.0 without the spell-reversing charm, Eadric revealed that he was in love with Emma, and the book ends with them being together and spirals into a series.

I remember reading another version of this story where the Princess was out strolling in her yard where she met the frog Prince in her pond and he confess to her about the curse he was Plague with. He told her the olny way to break the curse was with true loves kiss. With all of this information out in the open the Princess began to pick up the frog Prince and the frog Prince preparing for their kiss but because Princess was French she instead took him back inside the castle, put him in a pot of hot water where he was boild alive and later his legs were served to the princess for dinner, in her family's curiosity they asked he what she was eating and she simply replied frogs legs

I guess this is like Chris Rock's bit where he says something like "you've never truly loved someone unless you've contemplated their murder." I don't understand how the curse is broken by the frog being smashed against the wall.

Technically, The Princess and the Frog is an adaptation of the children's novel The Frog Princess, by E.D. Baker, which is a retelling of the Frog Prince. Therefore, it is a retelling of a retelling of The Frog Prince. There is a crucial step in the evolution of this movie that you have ignored.

I'm not sure if I'm happy or scared by the fact my dad read all those original stories to me when I was a kid. Every time I watched a Disney movie I got confused cause "Wait... Didn't that girl slice off the toe to get into the shoe? Where did that go?" or "I thought she had tried to kill him, not kiss him".
I may or may not be a bit messed up now.

Just thought I’d point out that the idea of tiana becoming a frog once kissing naveen in the movie was inspired by the book The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker, who’s credited in the movie and in several spinoff books based around the movie.
