Your bad-client actor is great! I haves few questions... If your client mixes business and personal on the same CC (for example), other than categorizing them differently in quickbooks, are there other actions you have to take to ensure bills are being paid from the correct bank account? Also, if separating the business vs. personal takes a lot of extra time and the client doesn’t improve after your coaching, have you had to increase the monthly amount you charge them to account for the additional time you spend? (Assuming you want to continue working with them). Lastly, for the client who likes to bend the rules..... what do you do if you’re not sure whether something can be classified as a business expense? Thank you so much for your videos!
OMG! Your “worst client” actor is perfect and hilarious! So natural! Might just think he had really done some of those things! This is a great blog and good information. 👍
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
I laughed through all of your examples, especially the first one with the receipts! That has happened to me so many times. Being a bookkeeper is very rewarding because you can help organize things for a business owner who is having a really hard time keeping up with everything. Most appreciate you so much.
That’s one thing I won’t stand for is to be ignored….. they get discharged immediately if they don’t wanna take it seriously then I’m not gonna waste my time. Mine will pay me in advance I’m learning a lot from you prior to me opening my business thank you I appreciate you
Lmaooo!! Your worst client actor (hubby?) is hilarious!! 🤣🤣🤣 i love the one where he’s ripping the checks 🤣🤣 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 bravo sir. Bravo. Your videos are great all around Morgan. Thank you!
Definitely won't work with the "no tech" or low-tech client - they won't even make it to the onboarding process with me.... "I'm not a good fit for you"
You’re way too nice to your clients there’s a Point when you’re going too far and being too nice to them then they start expecting it and then it’s too much stress for you I’ll build my boundaries immediately in fact I’ll probably put it in the contract in fact I know I will I make everything very very clear and I’m not gonna have anybody doing that to me thank you I appreciate you and your heads up on all this stuff I’m gonna have a good strong contract cya cya
There’s plenty of people out there that need a bookkeeper you shouldn’t have to babysit to that degree and you shouldn’t have to try so hard to get them to communicate with you that’s a waste of time and those are the type of people that I will not be working with
i started helping my parents with their bookkeeping an overall business admin and this video described them 3 times out of 5! i think i'm the only one thats realizing this matter. -.-
Evaluate it HONESTLY to yourself. If you HONESTLY "know" you're billing right then stand your ground. If they don't like it and leave, you are better off without them. Move on and you'll be blessed with a client who appreciates you. If you think they have merit in their argument, then of course work something out with them. Doesn't mean you purposely over charged them, just means you made an honest mistake. And if you did purposely over charge them; send them my way LOL.
My first and only client right now is sooo much like the first worst client. Right now I don't mind it, but I can see it being more of a pain as I go on in my business.
Hey Morgan, I have a question.... do you know how to add automatic payment thru QuickBooks? I’ve try for 2 weeks and my client is asking me to do them automatic.....I really don’t know what information I need, out of fill up the “pay bills” which I do know, but to make them automatic I don’t :(. Btw love your videos and I’m new in this job...1 1/2months already doing bookkeeping thru QuickBooks 😜✅
Hi! So glad your biz is going well. You may need to get more info from your client as to what they are looking for. I don't think you can auto pay bills through QB--a lot of bookkeepers use an outside service like bill.com (or, I use the feature through my clients' bank).
Oh my goodness. You described my hubby to a "T". Lol, he is completely technologically illiterate. I've done his books for over forty years. I finally got him to allow me to developed a billing template on "Excel" a little over 15 years ago. I learned Quickbooks when it first came out. I did books for an entertainment chain. From all this I encouraged my daughter to do the Quickbook tutorials, she learned it all, and I don't regret being the nagging bookkeeping mom. I've lived in a divided bookkeeping world. I'm actually considering taking it back up again, and am very encouraged by your videos. Thank you!
Little tech nudges usually work over time--it's hard when the person is related to you. :) My daughter is only 9, but I'm already thinking she should start a bookkeeping business in high school (you can make so much more than babysitting, etc!). Let me know if you have questions if you decide to start back up!
thank you so much for these tips girl! :D it tkwes out the stress on trying to know where to go to find my first clients and who to avoid first off! thanks a tonne love! xoxo God bless :)
So I'm a little confused, I know this is just an illustration for your video but all of these clients seem to be people you're dealing with in person, isn't this a virtual job that's completely remote and that can be done anywhere? Is dealing with clients in person required? I don't mind using Zoom/Facetime/ or a phone call but I wasn't expecting this. I'm just researching bookkeeping as a possibility right now. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your video about The 5 Worst Types of Bookkeeping Clients. Right now, I have one client who makes out all his expenditure payments by cash. Can this be one of the worst types of Bookkeeping clients? Please let me know so I can talk to him about operating his business in the right way. I look forward to hearing from you about this. In the meantime, keep up the good work. I think you are doing well in what you are doing.
Where does the cash to pay expenditures come from? Does the client have customers who on the other hand also pay their invoices by cash? It might be advisable to help the client with making a routine for disbursements if possible to motivate the client for a change..
Experienced them all. I do books and taxes, the most frustrating are the ones that do their own accounting and have no idea what they are doing. Had one brag about her finance degree and didnt enter 3 months of transactions and completely screwed up the balance sheet.
Thanksss Morgan !! Also , I wanted to know if you recommend giving a time limit for the unorganized clients when you first on board them ? For example , if it takes them longer than a week to get receipts and bank statements to you , you reject working with them .
I don't have a hard & fast rule at the moment, but I think that's a good idea. I usually go with my gut... clients are usually MOST on top of things at the beginning, so if that is a struggle, it probably is telling as to what the whole relationship will be like.
It's actually NOT "the law" for small business to have separate transactional accounts. Business structure makes a difference and it definitely is easier to keep things separate. But let's not lie to the client and tell them there is a hard and fast law when that doesn't exist.
@Bleh Business expenses should be "ordinary and necessary" per the IRS. You should have a Distribution account (equity account) for an owners personal expenses and draws. This does impact their basis.

Worst people ever.... And then they come and it needs to be done quick...
My client is a husband and wife team and they are literally ALL of these. Breaking with them soon!
soon..
Ha, oh no. Yes, set those boundaries!
That’s one thing I won’t stand for is to be ignored….. they get discharged immediately if they don’t wanna take it seriously then I’m not gonna waste my time. Mine will pay me in advance I’m learning a lot from you prior to me opening my business thank you I appreciate you

I am studying to become a bookkeeper and I am extremely old fashioned with technology…

That "No Tech Client" is soooooooo cute~
this "client" don't look too fun lol
Have you ever encountered a client who disputed the bill or the amount you charged for bookkeeping?? If so, what do you do?

Useful and informative
Thanks for the wonderful video. I can easily relate to the situations especially the fourth one. Expecting more like this in future.
Great, good to know, thanks!!

You bet!
Thank you for the advice.
My pleasure!
