What I like about Maurice is that he doesn't sell to us the products, but always emphasizes that it is based on our OWN use case and habits. Kudos to you, great video as always
Oh man, bag companies need to watch your video because you hit so many important points, many of which were the reason I purchased, or didn't purchase, a bag. One huge point that I can't see why any company wouldn't include is a back zippered pocket, this is crucial for storing a passport, cash, and anything that you want to keep safe especially while traveling. And I've seen so many expensive bags that lacked this one very important detail and even though I wanted the bag, I passed on it for this reason. One thing I use that I've found helpful in my over 40 countries of travel are Nite Ize S-Biner MicroLock, locking carabiners which I put on the main zippers of my backpacks or sling for added peace of mind.
The KP - Keep Pursuing crossbody sling has been my go-to bag since 2018. It deserves special mention for its compact yet spacious design, accommodating all the everyday items a man might need. It features a hidden third pocket for wallets and sensitive documents, an easily accessible smartphone compartment with extra padding, and a main compartment with various organizers, including a case specifically for glasses. Additionally, it offers a very useful feature for cyclists: an extra buckle that stabilizes the bag on your back.
I bought an Alpaka Bravo X sling v1 in 2021. Holds an 11"iPad in a Logitech Combo Touch case plus daily essentials. It has been perfect for me in use and aesthetic plus it has a bright blue interior, totally my jam.
The 3rd inner compartment is a must for me. I keep my wallet and passport (if applicable) in that compartment. I put the most used and least precious on the outer in case I run into sticky fingers. The main compartment has to fit the ipad pro 11" at most and at minimum a Nintendo Switch. Anything bigger than the iPad would need to be a backpack for me as it would end up becoming heavy once fully packed. I really like the removable strap as most of the mainstream slings have fixed anchor straps. I wish they made this more available as slings are of higher demand. Great content and solid breakdown of sling needs. I've found myself looking and buying slings only to find that I needed a bigger size or better layout. Video definitely helps remind me of the non negotiable things I need for a sling. Cheers and good luck to everyone.
While I do appreciate internal organization features in a bag, the cavernous main compartment is more important to me since I use pouches to segregate my stuff. It would be nice of the Chimera was reproduced again.
Chimera is based on the Belroy Venture 6L they also have bigger 9L versions. It’s very close to the original with added improvements. I own both (was one of the lucky few to snag the Chimera on launch).
@@lokaphilif only they created a 9L version of this Chimera sling as well. I have also luckily purchased the 6L Chimera sling but the material feels abit thick and heavier than my 9L venture sling. It’s less flexible than the normal venture slings as well. The chimera’s big compartment is also quite restricted due to the harder build quality.
@@cavan_goh I totally understand what you mean. My only gripe with the new Chimera 6L is the strap gets twisted up all the time. Otherwise I totally understand the heavier material choice, I'm also finding its thicker however I love the new 6L sizing. It fits my iPad 11 much better and can even fit a SteamDeck which there was no way that was going to happen on the old version. I'm personally thinking I might just sell my 9L sling as well and double down on this new one.
@@lokaphil just an advice: don’t dispose your 9L venture sling away. The material is so thin so it’s actually foldable and easily packed into your luggage/baggage when travelling overseas. Or once you pass customs check you can take the folded venture sling out of your baggage and put all your EDC stash back into that sling once unfolded.
Forget Bellroy and go for the Inateck Sling. Have recieved mine yesterday and I'm blown away by the quality and versatility. And this for the third of the price of a Bellroy. AMAZING!!! Only wished that they came also in bigger size such as 9L.
The Strap length , and comfortability is a must , I have 4 different ones depending what on the programme of the day, , How not to go overkill and bring to much is a great math issue :), thank you for a great video - waiting for the store to reopen
Grateful for your video reinforcing many of the lessons I've learned after purchasing four slings so far. One important decision for me, which you briefly addressed, is the strap length. Being a big guy, this is an important consideration. I appreciate the great review and camera work of this video showing how a sling can have attachment points rather than permanently attached points for the strap. That capability is now now on my list of decisions when considering my next sling.
i wish i had seen your video before having dropped hundreds of dollars trying out different bags blindly. the sheer disappointment of actually having bought a bag that really isn't what i need. this video is a must watch for anyone whose looking for the right bag. didn't occur to me that the interior color matters quite a bit for low light situations. i now notice most of my bags purchased so far have black interiors... lol anyway, subbed~
True on all points. I have been using a 2L for my everyday carry. It has 3 zippered pockets. But when I travel, the 2L is not enough to hold passports, cash, and other miscellaneous travel stuff. I love the look of Bellroy but concerned about the magnetic clasp. I got the 5L Pakt sling. The size is large enough for me to bring me and my husband’s passport, cash, sanitizing spray, and other misc travel stuff. Only complaint is that it doesn’t have the 3rd zipper pocket where I would like to store my phone when not in use.
Great vid as always Maurice! Having a couple different options is super important for me. Sometimes I just need a "pocket reliever" for keys, wallet and phone. And sometimes I wanna carry my steam deck and charger as well.
Currently loving my Aer Day Sling. Went to Thailand a few weeks ago and had my passport inside my sling during the Songkran Festival. Would advise to put your passport inside the sub-compartment just for extra protection. I wouldn't say no if I were to win the Bellroy though!
😂 I love this super low key review of the Chimera! Nobody else commented on the orange pen slot which I only now realize is there. And you're SO RIGHT about that 3rd pocket! I almost got the Flight Sling but decided against it because the back pocket isn't zippered 😑 Very important points for consideration and thanks for the low key Chimera review. 😁
Awesome video. Thanks to you, last year I got an Alpaka Go Sling Mini for my trip to Japan and it met all of my needs PERFECTLY. This video basically took everything I learned from your previous content and neatly packaged it all into one. I live by some of your decision points without even realizing it when I pick out a sling now lol. I'm going back to Japan in December & am taking my Alpaka back with me (or maybe something different if I'm lucky ; ) )!
Appreciate the video. I for sure did not take into account how important a passport pocket would be for myself. Definitely gonna help me in finding my first sling.
The video is fantastic as always. Your videos are an inspiration for my daily EDC Sling. Thank you for the video and I look forward to the next EDS video.
Good points to ponder as I consider an upgrade from my thrift-shop Jansport fanny pack! Meanwhile, my beef with the S-Biner is the tendency for the locking tabs to slide off and disappear, usually in an airport. Otherwise, I adore them.
Great video as aways, I always appreciate your insights regarding the best gear for traveling. Keep up the good work and looking forward to getting my hands on the hat you've been working on.
How the sling lands on our body and stays close on front and back carry was my goldilocks quest. After many failed slings, I bought a 2nd hand Aer Day Sling 2. It's perfect.
I purchase the AER sling which I am very pleased with EXCEPT for the carrying strap which I find to hard with very hard uncomfortable edges. When I buy a new one I will consider you comments in this video 👍🏻
Great video! I've bought and sold so many slings trying to figure out what works for me and my carry. I'm currently trying to pinpoint my on-flight sling.
That 3rd rear pocket has become one of my most important considerations along with anchor points. BTW, I love Bellroy products but I am finding their straps wanting depending where the product is worn. You point that out in this video.
Great resource here Maurice! I did the same mistake a few years back, got a TomToc last spring, and guess what - it doesn’t fit my DSLR (still great price though). I did heavy extensive research and combining that with what you said - I may have a winner - Fjalraven High Top. It ticks all the boxes, while being afordable. At least I hope this will be the winner :)
I have bought and sold many sling bags in the past for my travel vacation sightseeing trips. And the two things that I absolutely want and need are the back zipper pocket to keep my passport safely and an external water bottle mesh pocket. A passport is still needed in lot of countries to enter in different tourist attractions, especially when you have pre booked the entrance tickets. The rest I can work with whatever space it has in the middle and front pocket. And another nice to have feature is the slim profile that hugs my body and does not look bulky. And I am still looking for a compact sling bag that has these two features that I can wear all day during my trips. Any suggestions?
Maurice, what a wonderful giveaway. I'm just back from a trip to Japan and Hong Kong. I've always was a little reluctant to use a sling, but given the amount of people I encounter in the subway in Tokyo it makes perfect sense for me to have one. I'm also a huge fan of Bellroy, since for me they hit the sweet spot in terms of just enough organization, style and durability all the time. Fingers crossed 🤞
Great video mate, you are always providing good tips on what's the best gear for EDC and traveling. I can't wait to get my hands on that cap you are working on.

I got a sling style bag for my first big International trip and while it was definitely good enough, I would get something better for the next one. Like some cushion, because a bag is no good if I never want to wear it. So you end up holding it in your lap.
Maurice! I love your videos my friend... im wondering what your thoughts are of the Chimera so far? it seems like it is the perfect bag for me but I have a few questions... is the main pocket really slightly bigger than the regular venture? How do you feel about the strap? Overall where does it rank on your list? Maurice, if you have to choose only one sling bag (both for everyday use and for international travel), which one would you use: this chimera sling bag or the Alpaka bravo sling max?
Maurice I’ve been trying to find a sling to take on a trip to Hawaii with my wife, but their are so many out there and some are very expensive. Really thoughtful video, I thoroughly enjoy your tips and ideas. By the way, do you travel to Indonesia frequently? You’re wearing this bellroy x carryology sling while in Jakarta, I suppose that’s Batavia old town in North Jakarta right? Cheers from Indonesia.
I have a bag i got for 8 dollars off a street vendor and has held up fine going on 5 years. I would never recommend someone spend over 25 on a bag like this
When was this video made? I think it’s pretty shady that belroy’s marketing strategy is designed around artificial scarcity where they intentionally “sell-out” and then have influencers give away this allegedly in demand item. I was able to get into the queue immediately 5 hours after they first opened sales. I highly doubt they sold out anything and belroy is trying to create this halo effect around their items to justify large markups. I guess that’s the nature of the business now. 95% marketing and 5% quality
Yeah these companies are ridiculous and so are the influencers who push these brands. $239 from a bag made of plastic. Carryology and bellroy are owned by the same people. They upped the price of this bad as if they are two different entities. And of course a influencer paid by them won't tell you that.
@@user-oy7nr4dk7x I just got an email from them. “Miss out on the Carryology x Bellroy Chimera Sling? You can still own a piece of Carryology x Bellroy goodness, with these much-loved Essentials Editions.” Disgusting and so obviously transparent
I hate how most slings have magnetic clips for hooking on and release. I get it, it's for the convenience. But I feel that lacks security, as anyone can just snatch it from you. Idk just my opinion.
People keep saying they buy luxury for quality, originality and tradition. But really, isn't 90% for the hype and prestige and ego? Not as good as the $200 premium knockoffs H Q D U P S Great quality and price
Nice promo… did Bellroy Pay you much? 😂 this sling looks awesome, but a)is already sold out (as you mentioned) and b) was way fcking expensive than most people are willing (or able) to spend on one 😑 otherwise… great points, great video 😅 (I bicker too much, but I don’t care anymore)
They're back in stock, but I still wouldn't buy it, as it's ridiculously overpriced. A lot of bellroy products usually do be tbh. This should have been about £160 max
I don't really care for slings. Get a great set of trousers and ensure you have a reduced travel EDC. I like Livsn. They have a hideaway zipped pockets.
What I like about Maurice is that he doesn't sell to us the products, but always emphasizes that it is based on our OWN use case and habits. Kudos to you, great video as always
True.
However, the slings from the previous were definitely not within budget for us mortals.

People keep saying they buy luxury for quality, originality and tradition. But really, isn't 90% for the hype and prestige and ego? Not as good as the $200 premium knockoffs H Q D U P S Great quality and price
Nice promo… did Bellroy Pay you much? 😂 this sling looks awesome, but a)is already sold out (as you mentioned) and b) was way fcking expensive than most people are willing (or able) to spend on one 😑 otherwise… great points, great video 😅 (I bicker too much, but I don’t care anymore)
first
damn
They're back in stock, but I still wouldn't buy it, as it's ridiculously overpriced. A lot of bellroy products usually do be tbh. This should have been about £160 max
Ok ok we got it, you have limited edition bellroy sling and most viewers won’t be able even to order it.
I don't really care for slings. Get a great set of trousers and ensure you have a reduced travel EDC. I like Livsn. They have a hideaway zipped pockets.
