After watching heaps of videos, I got the Tomtoc because it fits my Nintendo switch perfectly. This makes it a great EDC bag for me, as well as brilliant for taking on flights. The hidden back pocket also gives some added security for passports when travelling. I've had it for over a year and I absolutely love it
Two thumbs up (👍👍) for the tomtoc EDC sling bag! I just got back from a week-long river cruise and found it to be indispensable, as I often needed to carry my phone, battery bank (my iPhone 14 Pro gulps battery power if I leave it in camera mode), wallet, passport, reading glasses, door passcard, pen, notepad, and some tissues on a daily basis. I purchased the X-Pac variation because it offered higher water-repellency and a bright orange interior which made it easy to see small, dark objects.
Just bought my sling from free people for our Italy & Greece honeymoon. I was trying to find a copycat on Amazon but none of them look as chic as free people’s does. Super excited to start traveling with it!
Bought a Wandrd D1 version 1 for my brother and aside from the material flaking off over 5 yrs of usage the features of sling are great. I especially like the 2 clips on each end you can attach to make the bag hug your torso better and the grab handles on ea side.. 3 thing that Im waiting for wandrd to donis make a 4L version, have it in Xpac material and also make interior of lighter color instead of just black.
I got the Tomtoc for a recent trip to France and it was fabulous. Initially I didn’t want something that large but it was perfect for holding my wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, etc.
LOL....I no longer carry a regular camera, but I used a fanny pack/crossbody (adjustable strap) from Walmart's Outdoor Products line which I've had for awhile which is great! Inner slit mesh pockets, slightly padded, 3 zippered sections and two mesh side pockets for whatever...tissues, etc. The zippers have bigger grabs which can be used to hang small things from. I'm OLD and started traveling lite in the late 70's so all my stuff is old and amazingly still really good! That includes a folding dual voltage, adjustable speed hair dryer from a name brand hair care company that folds into a 4" rectangle..used just for travel, since 1973!!!! This plus a RFI money belt under my clothes...the pack can fold flat and I just use the money belt for the key docs, etc.
I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
As an avid sling and backpack and travel bag purchaser, Tomtom slings are great. Many sizes. Well made and you can design your own with some sizes. Great video
Awesome video ! Thank you for sharing your story in an articulate way. Appreciate your focus on sharing your knowledge. Will continue to share your work with friends and family
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
Have to agree with @slonekettering25, just go to a garage sale or a mail order house and get a nice "fanny pack." Plenty of zippers, compartments, etc., and it also has that built in, "Hey, get off my lawn," vibe.
My favorite "belt bag" is mine. It is 9" w by 4" h by 6" d when fully packed. It has six zippered compartments: 2 large accessible from the top, one smaller accessible from the front and a flat wallet size one in back. There are also two where the straps attach that are perfect for cords, pods, compass, whistle ( old hikers habit in case you get lost). It has interior pockets in one of the large compartments and a key loop. I have had it over ten years and I will cry the day it wears out (it still looks and functions like new) because the company that made it no longer exists. I have also never had my fanny pack count as an item on airplanes. I love the hands free secure nature of belt bags over purses.
Awesome just the recommendations I was looking for! Decided to order the tomtoc in the XPac material to match my Aer Travel Pack 3 XPac backpack. And at less than half the price of the Aer XPac sling! 🙌🏼
I’ve seen sling bags in videos, as well as in stores. But never really thought using them. As I’ve been researching them, one of the things I would like in one, is the third back pocket for certain items. As I watched this video, I like the Tomtoc explorer bag that you showed. But my question is: as I’m still looking around for a possible sling bag, are there any that have the third back pocket with top load in the main portion? Though I like the Tomtoc explorer as it is.
I’m really digging the Free People sling that Allie likes. Gonna check it out. Thanks as always for the great videos and advice. Keep up the good work! 🙌🏼
Nice video. I'm looking for one which can also hold a 600ml bottle of water, rolled up rain jacket or vest, and compact point and shoot camera. Maybe only the Wandrd.
Thanks for the options! I'm too picky, so I still haven't chosen a sling / fanny pack. I like natural materials, sleek look, and lots of organization. 🌺Heidi
In the 90s we called it just out of fanny pack however it's advanced so far in Superior now to the point that we call it a sling bag because you can swing it over it's much better I think I like it over the shoulder and where you can feel this trap and everything and you have it at crisscross I like that much better me being 77 years old thanks for creating a fanny pack slash sling. over-the-shoulder I love
Bellroy fan here! I have the Venture 9L, which is fantastic if you have a few more things to carry, like your camera, a small umbrella or a light jacket. I recently got the Bellroy Lite Sling and its a joy to use. I packed it in my main travel bag and used it as my day bag on a recent trip. It excelled! Last but not least, I also own the Aer Day Sling 3 and I LOOOVE that one. Is my only sling with that back “secret” pocket that comes in so handy to store valuables like credit cards, passport or some backup cash
I just got a Hudson sling bag based on your recommendation and I really think I’m going to love it BUT have you found a way to secure the two straps together so they don’t get all twisted when you put the bag on? Most bags I have come with slide “keepers” on the strap to keep this from happening.
Thanks for doing this video, it’s very helpful. I’ll be leaving for Europe this Monday and good timing that I came across to your vlog and found this Tomtoc interesting so I did order and I’ll be getting it on Friday. By the way, I just subscribed to your channel.
Not sure how you came up with this list, but options from Aer, Nomatic, and Peak Design were overlooked IMO. None are inexpensive, but across their product lines they have superior travel solutions.
Not a comprehensive or be all end all list by any means. Some of our faves right now! Thanks for your suggestions! Who knows, there could be future iterations?
Loved the video! Always on the lookout for new sling bags! Have y’all ever looked at any of the options from “Aer”? I’ve got a few from there I really like as well, and I’d love to see you cover the “TRANSIT DUFFEL 35L” if you end up covering more bags!
After a lot of comparison shopping nearly all of my travel gear is from Aer with 6 different pieces including the new 22L tote which is awesome. I also have a Nomatic 1L sling and a Briggs & Riley ZDX 22" spinner that was the perfect bag for 17 days in Italy this May. Aer easily has the best combination of design and utility IMO.
Any thoughts on 'anti-theft' features like RFID blocking, slash resistant materials and strap, and zipper pulls that can be secured? Are those features worth it?
hahahaha- FANNY Packs are back 'in style'.. who woulda thunk it.. guess I was ahead of the times.. still have a couple of older ones.. these days with some full size mirrorless or older DSLR cameras that I use while traveling they take a back seat to my carrying a smaller backpack instead.. great video.. well done :)
Tom Bihn makes beautiful durable slings/packs in different sizes. I would also put my credit cards/passports into a RFID cover to have peace of mind in crowded tourist areas. Thanks for the video. I enjoy your good vibes and helpful content!
I have one similar to Allie’s that allows charging for devices. That came in hand for our recent trip to Disney world. I bought a solar power bank for charging as well.
Hello just found your channel, hi from Ireland. Good video. I have the Tomtoc sling and really love it, gave up bringing a bigger bag as I can get so much into it when needed.
I wondered if the *Bellroy Sling lite 7L* wouldn't be counted as a personal item, 🤔 yet I'm not sure. Maybe it's too big to go with that through check-in?
Hi - I have a question for Allie regarding the Hudson Sling Bag. I am curious to know the length of the strap when it's fully extended. I contacted Free People, and they were not able to tell me that information 🤔. Would you be able to extend it fully and measure the length? I would be so appreciative ☺
Heading to London and Paris in December. Concerned about wearing a sling on the outside of my heavy coats. Looked at the Herschel heritage crossbody. Not sure it can fit comfortably underneath a winter jacket considering I’ll be wearing layers. Thoughts?
I keep hearing that I need anti theft features I.e. straps that can’t be slashed or fabric that prevents scanning my documents. Do you recommend any slings with these features?
Totally agree about pricing on Bellboy. Just back from Seattle on SW and they were announcing that you could have a carry-on and a personal item. If you had a sling or purse or anything else, to consolidate those into the 2 allowed. Never heard that before, but, guess they are tired of people taking too large of carry-ons and personal items so this is how they are cutting back. Thought it was interesting
Does the magnetic clip concern you when you consider that the bag could be ripped from your body by a thief on passing scooter (a common threat in many parts of the world)?
I have the Aer Day Sling3 and the Bellroy Lite Sling, both with magnetic buckles, and in my experience they’re not easy to undo with one hand. Once they’re locked they feel very secure and WILL NOT come undone by tugging. The would be thief, would have to have some knowledge about the precise angle you have to push the buckle. Unlikely if you ask me. I have read about users having their magnetic buckles coming undone accidentally but after 10 months of use, it hasn’t happened to me.
But how do you carry water? Very few places i travel where I don't want to bring a bottle with me. Yet with almost all of these that would take 90% of the space, or the sling is just too massive. Need a power bank and a jacket/shirt and it's too full. I just can't find a use for it when a backpack us so much more versatile, and often more comfortable. (nevermind when I travel with kids, so need ~3 waters, snacks etc! A 2 L "millennial fanny pack" just don't cut it)
I've got a right-handed flex bag from Flex UK. Lots of space, a bunch of colour. Comes in left or right, has a very adjustable strap for different body types and sizes and fits flat to the body fitting under a jacket easily. It isn't something you wear for fashion... that's not why I bought it lol.
I bought one for trial on a domestic flight to see if i would like it for an international flight. I liked the hands free aspect, but couldn't stand any other part of it.
I have a Bellroy sling but don't like the material. I much prefere the Alpaka Go Sling Mini and it's "500D Kodra HT (6,6 Nylon) DWR". Have no idea what that means though 😂
I've had the exact same color Hudson sling for years as well and it is so handy! Curious how you keep yours clean? Mine has definitely seen better days.

I purchased the X-Pac variation because it offered higher water-repellency and a bright orange interior which made it easy to see small, dark objects.
I love the TomToc as well, for the price, its thoughtful not too organise-y pockets and sits well
Just bought my sling from free people for our Italy & Greece honeymoon. I was trying to find a copycat on Amazon but none of them look as chic as free people’s does. Super excited to start traveling with it!
Bought a Wandrd D1 version 1 for my brother and aside from the material flaking off over 5 yrs of usage the features of sling are great. The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
The zippers have bigger grabs which can be used to hang small things from. kay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
U guys are absolutely amazing, what is about you, so natural and everything u explain is just spot on.
I'm all in with TomToc. I have two different sizes. My smaller one is #5 in your video. I love the quality, the look, and the price.
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
I wish you would have tried them on for us. But thanks for the review.
As an avid sling and backpack and travel bag purchaser, Tomtom slings are great. Many sizes. Well made and you can design your own with some sizes. Great video
I have the Tomtoc in the video (I got the customizable one) and also their bigger 7L. Love them both.
Thanks for the comparison.
we use Alpaka go sling mini's, the one with the orange interior. So far, we like them.
Have to agree with @slonekettering25, just go to a garage sale or a mail order house and get a nice "fanny pack." Plenty of zippers, compartments, etc., and it also has that built in, "Hey, get off my lawn," vibe.
🏆🤣 love it
Fjallraven Kanken hip pack is nice. Love it for casino trips

You can call it a sling or a belt bag all you want. It’s a 90’s fanny pack. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Thumbs up for your video though.
Actually from the 60’s!
Yep!
😂
Idgaf as long as it's functional🤣
True that..will always be a butt bag 😂
Awesome just the recommendations I was looking for! Decided to order the tomtoc in the XPac material to match my Aer Travel Pack 3 XPac backpack. And at less than half the price of the Aer XPac sling! 🙌🏼

These look useful but they don't seem to offer RFID blocking.
Nice video. I'm looking for one which can also hold a 600ml bottle of water, rolled up rain jacket or vest, and compact point and shoot camera. Maybe only the Wandrd.
I like Pacsafe slings because of the zipper locks that give anti pickpock protection. This is helpful when I travel in Europe.
I like the Free People Hudson best. Now to pick a color.
I'm definitely buying the Free People sling!
Thanks for the options! I'm too picky, so I still haven't chosen a sling / fanny pack. I like natural materials, sleek look, and lots of organization. 🌺Heidi

The Uniqlo bag! It's awesome!
How would the magnetic clips hold up against someone trying to grab and run? I love the idea, but are they secure?
My thoughts exactly.
Right, magnetic clip doesn't seem very secure to me.
Deal breaker for me.
Bellroy fan here! I have the Venture 9L, which is fantastic if you have a few more things to carry, like your camera, a small umbrella or a light jacket. Love how the Hudson Sling looks but I’m curious, does can you also fit a waterbottle?
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
Lululemon bc it fits all sizes of people. Important for some as many fit only small to medium people.
HEY kislux !! I have been watching you for years and im so proud of where you have made it! I love you so much! Also thanks for making my day
I just got a Hudson sling bag based on your recommendation and I really think I’m going to love it BUT have you found a way to secure the two straps together so they don’t get all twisted when you put the bag on? Most bags I have come with slide “keepers” on the strap to keep this from happening.
Part of my essential carry is a waterbottle. Even a 6 oz. helps keep you hydrated. Struggling to find a sling with waterbottle capacity.
Travelon has a crossbody bag (not a sling) that has a pocket for a water bottle. I take it on all my trips!
Great reviews but it would be very helpful to show how these look when worn. Only Allie's bag was shown from old video clips.
Thanks for doing this video, it’s very helpful. I’ll be leaving for Europe this Monday and good timing that I came across to your vlog and found this Tomtoc interesting so I did order and I’ll be getting it on Friday. By the way, I just subscribed to your channel.

They just don't know anything about bags that's why
@@awaytogetherwitch one u wear every day I have 3 different bags
Loved the video! Always on the lookout for new sling bags! Have y’all ever looked at any of the options from “Aer”? I’ve got a few from there I really like as well, and I’d love to see you cover the “TRANSIT DUFFEL 35L” if you end up covering more bags!

Hudson Sling. Thank you soooo much. Going to purchase mine now.
Thanks! Just ordered a Hudson sling.
great video lots and lots of chocies I like the Wandard D-1 I have a few of their camera bags
Any thoughts on 'anti-theft' features like RFID blocking, slash resistant materials and strap, and zipper pulls that can be secured? Are those features worth it?
I have wondered what sling you were wearing! Just ordered the FP! Thank you!
hahahaha- FANNY Packs are back 'in style'.. who woulda thunk it.. guess I was ahead of the times.. still have a couple of older ones.. these days with some full size mirrorless or older DSLR cameras that I use while traveling they take a back seat to my carrying a smaller backpack instead.. great video.. well done :)
Like #5, shop by price. Like the horizontal style.
Tom Bihn makes beautiful durable slings/packs in different sizes. I would also put my credit cards/passports into a RFID cover to have peace of mind in crowded tourist areas. Thanks for the video. I enjoy your good vibes and helpful content!
Ordered the Tomtac already.
Looked into Allie’s favorite , ( like it, just a little pricey) . Thank you for all your videos. 👍👍
Amei todas as bolsas lindas e de muito bom gosto.Parabens KKUWAN 😘😘😘
Great suggestions, thank you very much.
Hi Allie. Thank you for the video. Where did you get that floral top from?
How secure is the magnetic buckle? It looks like it can come apart accidentally?
I just bought thr free people bag . Great video.
I have one similar to Allie’s that allows charging for devices. That came in hand for our recent trip to Disney world. I bought a solar power bank for charging as well.
Any sling bag suggestions for my switch lite? Please and thank you
Hello just found your channel, hi from Ireland.
Magnetic clip closure was a downer for the last one since you really need your fannys to be secure and not be snatched away by a jerk
Are the magnetic clasp on the bellroy an issue for pickpockets? Looks like it can easily become undone as opposed to conventional buckle.
I love you so much! I recently just found your kislux and i’m in love!! Your videos are so fun and you energy is just MWAH! keep living your life
great video, thanks all!
Hi - I have a question for Allie regarding the Hudson Sling Bag. I am curious to know the length of the strap when it's fully extended. I contacted Free People, and they were not able to tell me that information 🤔. Would you be able to extend it fully and measure the length? I would be so appreciative ☺
Awww the fanny pack is back ❤😊
Great video! Most useful one I've seen so far!
What color is the Hudson bag that you have? TIA! ☺️
Ever tey a pacsafe sling? Lots better anti theft features, been looking into them more recently
Worth noting that the tomtoc slings are primarily for right handers. Their strap system isn't really comfortable for lefties.
Wow as a rightie I never would have thought about that.
Tom tok looks like what I want. Thanks.
I have the Tomtoc and love it.
For that last one, would the magnetic closure not be a theft risk?
Heading to London and Paris in December. Concerned about wearing a sling on the outside of my heavy coats. Looked at the Herschel heritage crossbody. Not sure it can fit comfortably underneath a winter jacket considering I’ll be wearing layers. Thoughts?
I keep hearing that I need anti theft features I.e. straps that can’t be slashed or fabric that prevents scanning my documents. Do you recommend any slings with these features?
Hmmm... For well travelers, where do you carry your camera? Which sling would fit and well padded?
Totally agree about pricing on Bellboy. Just back from Seattle on SW and they were announcing that you could have a carry-on and a personal item. Great video....thanks!
Excellent Video!
Free people and just ordered one
A great comparison video! Thanks guys!
Greetings from Egypt! I wanted to express my admiration for your channel. As an avid traveler, I find it to be incredibly useful and informative.
i am looking for a smaller sling (2 liter or smaller) that has a spot for a water bottle holder on the exterior. I would love any ideas
Can you fit a small water bottle in the Free People sling?
If you want something more classic, then look up domke or billingham camera bags.
I have a Bellroy sling but don't like the material.
I much prefere the Alpaka Go Sling Mini and it's "500D Kodra HT (6,6 Nylon) DWR".
Have no idea what that means though 😂
Your favorite is my choice...
Is the Free People sling OK in rain?
I've had the exact same color Hudson sling for years as well and it is so handy! Curious how you keep yours clean? Mine has definitely seen better days.
Haha - well..... This is actually a new clean one for the sake of the video. :)
Love my TomToc slings!
Hey Nik and Allie.....you seem to have some people that have hijacked the comments with unrelated info.
I stay away from metal zips, as they tend to scratch your items or watch when placing in or taking items out.
