Remember, it was just the "Everyone else" who came with them. All the big ships are still fighting. Just the crappy Reliants and smaller ships are the ones that tried to bust through that got blowed up. (As someone who's played a lot of Trek videogames, those things are a PAIN to replace, they don't go in like that too often)

This episode has the single greatest libe ever spoken by a starfleet captain: "Auxiliary power to weapons!"
It also has one of two of the best "filler" scenes in battle episodes, Dukat's conversation with Weyoun. The other was a conversation between Garak and Quark when the crew was rescuing Dukat from the Klingons. Honorable mention to Jadzia's conversation with a Jem'Hadar comparing their ages.

To me, this is THE most important and pivotal episode of the entire series. The stakes could not be higher, and Sisko's conversation with the Prophets gives me chills every time. This is is the moment I think, that he realizes that he is VERY important to them, and that yes, they are watching him. Stellar performances by all involved, and fantastic battle sequences. DS9 is peak Trek, especially here.

As for not "just warping." Issues, remember a few things: first, this is a story and it's more dramatic to have ships fight in non warp. Second, warp requires creating a warp bubble and other episodes and shows indicate that large objects and/or other ships can interfere or prevent ships from going to warp (i.e. you can not create a warpbubble with other objects to close and no warp bubble means no FTL warp speed) Lastly, get a piece of paper and draw a dot in the middle and pretend that's ds9. Then draw a purple dot right next to it, that represents the dominion fleet. Now, draw a blue dot on the far edge of the0 paper (the Fed fleet). If you move the blue dot and purple dot at the same time and distance, there is no way the blue dot can make it to the center, ds9, dot without purple intercepting them. Infact, purple can be slower and it will be still hard for blue to get to get past purple... and the dominion is as fast as the Federation. Even if the Federation split up, the dominion has more ships. Die alone or try to work together

@@JustSomeBodisOpinion It's way harder to fight battles at warp than at sub-light. You have to remember, it takes a significant amount of power to maintain a warp field. Also, no ship at Warp will be able to perform evasive maneuver to avoid getting hit, and fleet level tactical maneuvers during the battle to outflank and outplay enemy forces is limited. When you're at Warp it's hard to do anything other than travel a straight line.
Since the goal is to get to DS9, the entire Federation fleet would have to perform a running battle all the way to the station, and the Dominion fleet would wither away at them until the fleet was so devastated only a handful would have made it and that wouldn't have been enough to defeat the station and the remaining Dominion ships.
Having said that, there were a few DS9 and Voyager episodes where battles were fought at Warp, and those battles played out the way I described, running battles.
Yeah, I always had the ‘why dont they fly around each other’ question as well. Logically speaking, fleet actions should only take place at strategic locations such as planets or the wormhole, it makes no sense for two fleets to do battle in open space. Space is way too big to allow that.
one thing that always bothered me was Bashir going to the Holodeck when surely there are hundreds of starships with wounded personnel from the gigantic space battle. Surely he would be needed for a little while.
This is my favourite episode of DS9.
True definition of a "Deus Ex Machina:"- if it wasnt for The Prophets intervening the Federation Alliance would have lost the war and the Dominion would taken over most of the galaxy. Of course, if it wasnt for the wormhole that the Prophets created, then the Dominion wouldnt be able to invade the Alpha Quadrant in the first place! So it evens itself out lol

So much happens in this episode. The amazing battle scene, major character development, and the story enters a new phase. Dukat is scum and you can see he actually believes his own hype about how the Bajorans should have worshiped him. It really shows how unhinged he really is. That said I always feel bad about how he lost Ziyal. Even a bad guy like Dukat shouldn't have to lose his child like that.
To answer your question the Enterprise does fight in the war, its just fighting on other fronts. This is actually covered in various Star Trek books. The sight of the Galaxy class ship is always cool especially since these are not the same kind of ships as the Enterprise-D was. During the Dominion War the Galaxy class ships had all the science labs and other comforts removed and replaced with more shields and weapons. The Galaxy class ships you see here are not exploration ship like the old Enterprise-D was but full on battle ships.

There will be other battles like this one in the future of DS9, battles with even greater numbers. As for Dukat, if he remains in the series or not, you won't have to wait for the answer long, promise. Great reaction and thank you.
