  • Deep Space 9 Season 1, Episode 1 and 2: Upon arriving at his new command, Benjamin Sisko is quickly involved in a Bajoran prophet's quest for eight mystical and powerful orbs.
A spin-off of `Star Trek: The Next Generation', `Deep Space Nine' is set on a space station orbiting the planet Bajor. This time, Commander Benjamin Sisko is in charge of a diverse crew. But unlike other `Star Trek' series, there's no USS Enterprise to help them. Sisko and the crew must fight off rival alien species who want control of Deep Space Nine because of its strategic position close to a wormhole, which allows speedy travel to the far reaches of space.
Come see Coach's first time EVER watching Star Trek DS9 with Nick who has already seen the whole show but loves it so much he is going to go through it all with Coach for his first time. This is going to be a fun journey guys, hope you enjoy :)

I'm old - I was 16 when Star Trek first aired in 1966 - my Mom and I NEVER missed an episode. DS9 was one of my favs...... I have all iterations of Trek on DVD except "Enterprise" and all the movies - even the Kelvin timeline trilogy.

I'll add my voice to those who think DS9 is the most mature and well-plotted of all the Treks. Granted, the first season is a little rough at times, but it hits its stride in S2 and continues to improve all the way through seasons 5-6, which are phenomenal. The final season, while flawed in some ways, is still very good and wraps everything up in an epic 10-episode arc.

I just came across your reaction. The only issue I have is that you're telling him everything about the show that he will find out just by watching it. You tell him about the station, what its purpose is, how it became the way it is, when it's in no way necessary for you to do so. The show explains it perfectly well.
You even went so far as to tell him what species play an important role in the series. The Changelings were just spoiled now. From the beginning of the series nobody knew if he was the last of his kind or not. When you first watched it, you didn't know. It was a mystery for the longest time. Yet here you are telling him that he's a member of that species and that they play an important role. So much for him thinking that Odo was the last of his kind for a long time. Now, instead of being surprised that they're a complete species and that they meet them, he's going to be expecting it.
I hope you aren't going to tell him everything about the episodes throughout the series. Just let him be surprised like you were when you first watched the series. You ruin the surprise even if you just say, "I can't wait until you see this." Instead of being surprised that something cool happens, he's now expecting something cool to happen and isn't surprised. All because you told him it was coming. You ruin the experience doing that.
I really hope that in the future you're just going to watch it with him and not tell him anything. Just act like you would if you were watching it by yourself again. Otherwise, as I mentioned, you ruin the experience.

I was going to say something similar. In the words of River Song "Spoilers!" Dang Nick!. Chill out! You even explained the Trill...the Trill were introduced in TNG! Coach should already know who that species is! Yes, they looked different but the rest of the Trekies figured it out. You even introduced Nog and his familial relationship to two other characters who themselves had not yet even been introduced! Let Coach experience the way everyone else experienced when they watched it for the first time. Don't hint at or reveal stuff he doesn't know.

During the opening credits when the comet goes by, you can see Spock's face as part of the comet trail just before the station shows up. Not many fans know of this bit of trivia. From a certain point of view, Spock's been in every episode of DS9. 😉

Starbase Deep Space 9 was going to be introduced in the two-part episode “chain of command” If you remember, Picard, Worf, and Dr. Crusher had to go visit a Ferengi for a discrete trip across the cardassian border. The dramatic line while they’re in the shuttlecraft Picard says “Set course for starbase deep space nine .” The problem is, deep space nine’s release was delayed by a week. So the line was changed to “set course for something five.” But they still kept the musical cue. The Ferengi they were supposed to meet was going to be Quark. And all these changes were literally last minute. Deep space nine would release during TNG’s sixth season. One thing they could’ve done, was change the line to “Set course for Bajorian station Terrok Nor (the stations, cardassian Lane before the Bajorans took it over) And still have everything stay the same. They can have the station be run down and have some Starfleet officers on board conducting repairs just as what we saw when Sisko first comes on board.

The role for Kira was originally meant for Ro Laren. But Michelle Forbes turned it down because she didn’t wanna commit to six 26 episode seasons. The character was changed. But the character’s dialogue was not changed. It was meant for Ro. It did not take long for the writers to rework the character to fit Vistor.

Before I watched this series I thought, what stories can this series tell? It's about a truck-stop in space. But after watching it my opinion has changed completely. It's an engaging political soap-opera set in a truck-stop in space. And once we really get deep into the series it gets pretty complex. I love the character arc of the current characters and those who join the cast in future episodes and it keeps the Gene Roddenberry story-telling ethos alive.

  • @jarredwilkinson4666

I recall tuning in for it and from the start was hooked.
Kira was who I liked the best in the pilot and remained my favorite. The Chief was always awesome. As for the others intro I was blah to Julian for a long time got better as things went in and when the dark family secret got revealed I liked him loads more. Dax was interesting but to me a while for the show and Terry to find her footing hit once they did loved it. Quark I only liked at first cause my live if Buffy and got to see the actor do more but he really grew fast for me that by season one end became my number three favorite character of the show. Loved later learning lore about his culture.
Odo was and remain the number two favorite of the series. And Sisko was so so for me. I loved the idea of him and the Prophets once that was fully embrace and from then in he became tied with Odo as my number two fav. Jake never really landed for me until the last two seasons. Nog became a HUGE shock for me ar what they did for him and how I got to love him. Same with Rom.
It was the baddies that this show really landed perfectly. Creating Dukat as a foe for not kinky Bajor but Sisko then adding the Dominion for Starfleet and the entire Alpha/Beta Quadrants icing in the cake. .
The cast crew from there and so did my love of the show. Never understood why others didn’t enjoy it then but now love it.

    • @JohnFourtyTwo
      @JohnFourtyTwo 2 года назад

@@NickTalksEntertainment The pilot and first season are a bit rough but it's well worth the watch from the beginning especially since a 5-season arc where things happen in the first seasons apply to things happening later on. There's also a scene from two different seasons' perspective that really turn the show on it's head and I thought was best kind of storytelling I've ever seen.
There are quite a few similarities with DS9 also and that's due to JMS tried selling to Paramount a few years before DS9 aired and he had a complete 5-year outline of the story from the beginning that he showed Paramount. You can compare key events from each season and see how both series line up almost perfectly.
DS9 is my favorite post TOS Star Trek series but I like B5 a lot better.
Strongly recommend you watch the DVD version since it's widescreen and you won't have the black bars on the sides like you will the new upscaled version from HBO. It's a shame HBO didn't upscale the widescreen version.

This was unfortunately a let down. DS9 is my favorite and I hoped for a true blind reaction.
Why the hell are you telling the blind watcher the entire plot story and setting instead of letting the show itself do it? Because it does. I swear it is nonstop spoilers from the guy on the right.
This was not a "First Watch", this was a "Let me watch this show with someone else in the room so I can constantly tell him everything that happened and will happen."
The other guy mentioned how he hadn't said anything in 5 minutes, but that's because the other guy kept a constant stream of talking like he was watching with someone else who had seen the show and were MSTK3K'ing it.

That is just how we roll, I was trying to keep his interest because he was loosing it quick and now we are not even doing this any longer because he ultimately lost interest.

Not to get too deep into this, but isn't it possible the person was losing interest because everything was being told to them instead of seeing it in the show? You know, show and don't tell for a better experience in media.@@NickTalksEntertainment
