- CAMPFIRE COOKING is devoted to the love for Braai and Camping that we have as South Africans.
Mike and I tackle one of our all time favourite camping recipes. The good ol steak and chips on the fire. I'ts got a bit of a twist though as you have to nearly set the camp on fire and summon fire spirits and only then, you can call it the perfect camp recipe for Steak and Tjips.

Something I've learnt about making (potato) chips, that you may want to consider trying in future, is to cook em twice - first blanche (I think it's called) to almost done, and just before you're ready to serve, chuckem in again for that crisp outside/soft fluffy inside. The result will amaze you!

This was the camping trip that convinced us to make the move to the Ranger for camping. A camp is not the same without steak & chips!

What do you guys do with the oil at camp, after cooking?
I usually reuse the old oil for starting the fire or when the wood is a bit wet
