**UPDATE** The review is taking a bit longer than expected as I got a little ambitious with this one so it should be a good one. Hopefully will be ready by the end of the week. Stay tuned...
I just bought this laptop after buying the lg gram 16, xps 15 and returning both for 3 times each because of Quality assurance issues. Trackpad damage, screen problem and etc. I bought this one with i7 11th gen and I couldn't be any happier. Saved tons of money and only paid 1049 for such a great laptop. Well done hp!
I think HP really offers some of the best value with the new Envy. The numpad might be a negative but when it comes to laptops I would rather have an external one anyway. The centering of the key board on the laptop is well worth the trade off for me.
I'm more impressed than I first thought I would be. The number pad being gone wouldn't really be an issue for me the only problem personally is the aspect ratio and no 4k option.
Man, you know why I like your reviews? You review each product individually. For what it is. Like You don't go into weird comparisons that other "bigger" youtubers do with their reviews. E.g. I was looking for a Dell XPS review and a particuler youtuber's review was basically a comparison compared to the last gen that oh compared to the last gen the keyboard is a little XYZ... Like how am I supposed to make a decision because I didn't have the privilige to have the last gen in my hands same for the touchpad : "same as last gen" again, how do I know what last gen was like. Your reviews are holistic and touch all points which makes it really useful. So thanks again for your work, appreciate it.
This might be a 15.6" laptop I would consider getting due to the removal of the numpad. Also how are the colors on the screen? From the video they look pretty good would like to confirm is it 100% sRGB? This would be perfect if the speakers were actually upfiring!

Could you do a comparison about the Envy x360 with the i7 11th Gen vs the Ryzen 7 5700U? I can't decide, which ones best for me... Thank you for your great reviews
There will be not much difference. Multitasking will be better on the AMD, single thread on the Intel. The GPU performance is nearly the same, with a light edge on gaming for the AMD (intell XE has some graphical issues) and a edge for Intel on Adobe products. You can get the Intel version with a MX450 which improves gpu performance. I will get the AMD version because I use it for lab virtualization on the go and in these field 8 cores are simply much better than 4 cores.,
Looks great! But wish it had the 16:10 and num pad. Still for for price/performance ratio, this is the one to beat. Any similar laptops you'd recommend?
A very good review. These vents surprised me a lot ... I assumed from the start there were speakers. I'm surprised they use a dedicated charging port instead of USB-C.
I wasn't even considering 15 inch models, as they always have numpads, but i clicked on the video anyway, and much to my surprise, it doesn't have one! Totally wouldn't miss it, all laptops should have centered keyboards. A shame I couldn't join the livestream, didn't have much time lately.
I was really looking forward to the newer ryzen models but as an artist that does sculpting/painting and also does 3D CAD the numpad removal is a huge let down. All the other changes are welcome but i think i'll opt for a lenovo yoga 7-9 series probably that appeals more to me if there's a ryzen 5000 option in the future

Amazing first impression and video as usual !! Waiting for the final review. Could you please review in more details the fan noise? I am planning to buy this laptop but the loud fan noise is always a deal breaker to me.
I use my 2020 version for work and the number pad is helpful. I would always prefer a number pad. I thought the off-center keyboard would be an issue, but in practice it has been a zero factor.
2 weeks ago I bought the Envy 15 x360 2020 (numpad)version with 11th gen i7 16gb Ram / 1TB SSD / 4K AMOLED screen in silver edition. It came with defects on hinges and on touchpad. Some thumbs down? WTF? Been waiting for this overview, so thank you. I have been in the market for the 2020 version of the Envy. While the 2020 version has the coveted numeric keypad, I didn't like the fact that it has 250 nits of brightness. One question I have for you Andrew and I hope you address in your full review is: When one is utilizing it has a tablet, does accidental pressing of the keyboard (at the rear while in Table mode) end up interfere with the tablet by displaying keys or are the keys disabled? I know that Lenovo's Yoga series of 2 in 1 laptops raises the keyboard and disables the keys so as to prevent accidental key presses. I do appreciate that the 2021 version does include the tablet pen as that is a separate $40 cost. Thank you Andrew, Ravi Peiris M.D.
I found your channel from your the last version of this laptop and I love how you touch on every single possible point that Id want to know about and you keep doing it! So glad I subbed. Also Numpad is a must! ESPECIALLY in a 15".
I've got the 2020 model. Intel. My biggest issue would be the lack of the num pad. If they had put quad speakers maybe. Since they didn't leave the num pad
Note: Unlike on the shown spec sheet, the AMD variant does NOT come with an Intel Wifi chip, instead it has a Realtek RTL8852AE. Which should be noted, since that can cause problems if you want to put Linux on there.
I love the amd's but I'm hearing bad things like they don't work on Zoom calls, had issues with certain drivers and the screens are always very dim. Have you noticed any of these things?
I tried flipping the screen away to just use the HP x360 k/b while laptop is docked to a LG CX55 OLED TV as Primary Display. Then pairing a Logitech G Pro wireless mouse. Mouse is working fine. The Envy x360 k/b however locks, or something, so keystrokes don't work while she is flipped. Kinda short-sighted of HP (or target fixated, take your pick). Still manages to look remotely like a jacked up PC work desk with huuuugggge display. Streaming Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, and eARC out through the Marantz DVR thinggy, no problem. OLED tv unit audio is out from hdmi audio return (eARC port) to DVR, to Integrated Amp, then to home theater audio: bookshelf and floorstand speakers with 12" standalone sub and a center speaker. I can also opt to not boot my laptop, and do all streaming from my TV/DVR/Cable modem setup incl RUclips. Will Laptops get a hdmi 2.1 port anytime soon, and so forth ...
Thanks for a great review, Andrew! Do you think this laptop would be adequate for music production? I think it would be better if it had Zen 3 architecture CPU. What do you think? Also, would it be easy to upgrade it to 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD storage? Thanks!
With the full review, could you test out the machine on Fedora or Ubuntu operating systems? I want to know if this would be a good machine to get for digital art and software engineering.
The only issue I have is the pen. When using it inputs without touching the screen and its bothersome especially with drawing or using it for general use like in on the desktop. It opens up programs I didn't want. Apart from that its great.
What do you mean by moved away from removing the rubber feet to get to the internals on the spectre line? There are very much still screws hiding under the rubber feet on all current and recent spectre models. Do you perhaps mean the envy laptop line up?
Yes, the one that he has is 400 nits. Off of the hp site at least, it comes with 400nits off the bat, but I'm not sure about other retailers. I'm assuming places like best buy have it in 250 nits
I never sub to tech creators because for me its not a hobby, its an as I need a pro/semi pro opinion on something, this is where i look, but I like you. You get straight to the point and dont need 30 mins to do it. I was curious about something, perplexed about something, and happy about something I think you were slightly annoyed at. I'll elaborate... I like the fact that the ram is upgradable because I've had 8gb for nearly 4 years now, why would I want to buy a new one with same amount of ram and with it having been so long, 16 is kinda meh to me too so upgrading to 32 is what i'd really love to do. What I was curious about is how would that improve its gaming performance. I'd like to do a bit of that as well as writing, surfing, streaming, you know typical stuff. Hey what about the graphics card? Can I pull that out and replace it too? if so, do you have a recommendation? think mid/high quality/price level. Hashtag YOLO. I was perplexed how that laptop manages a track pad that large when I have a 17" Lenovo with itty bitty chicklet keys and a 2.25" x 4" track pad. Yes I pulled out my mini tape measure, dont judge me bro. LOL Lastly, I loved the upward facing fans. That means I don't have to find something rigid to lay on me in order to use it. If I'm sitting in bed under the cover, the vent is usually covered and its like ahhh I cant breath. I'm like hey whats that noise and then I hear the fan and then the computer is like ahhhhhhh thank ya Jeezus that was a close one. It is a LAPtop after all. Thanks for reading. I'm going to rub my hands in bengay now. haha Long comment
I've been trying to look into this laptop for myself recently to price-check etc. However, it seems that no Canadian websites are stocking this model with the AMD processor and I cannot upgrade it to the 400nit display. The HP website also lists the colour display as only 45% unlike your review listed as 100%. This is very frustrated and I'm wondering if I'm just out of luck because it won't ship to Canada?
**DEAL ALERT** $499 AT BEST BUY: howl.me/chD3jLbu6aL That is $300 of the initial $799 price. A steal at that price.

is the brightness bright enough for outdoor usage or not ?
Hi Andrew.I have a question and pls answer. What is the best laptop for gaming under 1000€?
Shutaaa ba't tinanggal yung numpaaad😱😭
Very good video. Realistic and to the point.
I can't seem to find it in South Africa though. Probably still coming.
Can't wait for the clamshell model! I hope it comes with the nighfall color 🥺
Did you mean non x360 envy? The normal hp envy?😶
@@strange_man yepp. the non convertable/ clamshell
I wish I knew they were gonna drop the 5700U so soon. I had just got me a 4700U like barely 6 months ago.
Have you noticed any of these things?
ordered mine today, will give you feedback once trialed
Can you also compare it with the Lenovo yoga slim 7 pro
Coming up
I tried flipping the screen away to just use the HP x360 k/b while laptop is docked to a LG CX55 OLED TV as Primary Display.
When is the full review coming?
Friday or Saturday
Thanks for a great review, Andrew!
Do you think this laptop would be adequate for music production? I think it would be better if it had Zen 3 architecture CPU. What do you think? Also, would it be easy to upgrade it to 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD storage?
Thanks!
With the full review, could you test out the machine on Fedora or Ubuntu operating systems? I want to know if this would be a good machine to get for digital art and software engineering.
Has HP addressed their laptops hinge issue in their current models?
Have been waiting since 22 march 😃
I have all the necessary tools to open this one up, but at least for me it's been completely impossible to open it up like that. How did you do it??
Hey Andrew, I like the clarity of your cameras. Which camera do you use?
Thanks I have many cameras. I will be doing a bts soon. Stay tuned.
Can you do side-by-side comparison with previous model?
The only issue I have is the pen.
When using it inputs without touching the screen and its bothersome especially with drawing or using it for general use like in on the desktop. It opens up programs I didn't want. Apart from that its great.
Interesting to see the design choice front facing "speaker" intake vents, wonder how that affects the thermals
Probably not that much. As far as İ saw from the design of fans. But still interesting to me too.
What do you mean by moved away from removing the rubber feet to get to the internals on the spectre line? There are very much still screws hiding under the rubber feet on all current and recent spectre models. Do you perhaps mean the envy laptop line up?
Yes meant the Envy 14
That's it, this is my next laptop. I was looking to buy new iPad but oh well. Waiting for that full review !
had an amd nitro 5,just got hp envy x360 cannot believe the power of this model,
Really cool.
Was interested about the screen Brightness .400 nits?
Yes, the one that he has is 400 nits. Off of the hp site at least, it comes with 400nits off the bat, but I'm not sure about other retailers. I'm assuming places like best buy have it in 250 nits
I recently bought the 2020 13" Envy, and this 2021 15" seems like an exact copy of it, except for being larger to accomodate the bigger screen
youre right, seems very similar to last year's envy 13 ryzen
I buy one, in best buy, and not included the pen, I don't know why? ☹️
When is the full review coming out
Is model 15-ee1083cl (with the numpad) the same as this 2021 model?
How does this compare to HP ENVY x360 - 15z-ee100 other than the number pad and the storage options?
Hey! Does the hinge break easy? Planning to buy
AMD 5000 series I will love to see the Xiaomi Laptops with it !!!
