- For the last week I have had my buddy Nick Salles visiting from Marcelo Garcia training with me here in Gothenburg, Sweden. Nick has a really deep understanding of the Crab Ride and Berimbolo backtake systems and I felt this was a great opportunity to share some really key details and concepts from the Crab Ride position with you guys.
After the video we started discussing training methods and ways to better develop understanding in the position and just some training philosophy in general.
I hope you guys enjoyed it and as always the best way to support is by leaving a like, comment and subscribe. Thanks.

Such an awesome details about the crab ride and reactions!!!
Would be so awesome if you posted a video about entries to crab ride (de la riva, bolo, foot wipe counter etc etc )
YES plz!!
Nice. I’ve been playing crab ride for about a year. Thx for rounding out my knowledge.
Btw old school bjj guys having a seizure watching this. Haha
Hey, it's Nick and Danny! These guys are awesome! They came down with Gianni to train with us at Odyssey Bjj in Atlanta, GA. OSS!
Eric Abrom Super Technical and also super nice guys.
i usually lose the crab ride even against less skilled partners so this is super helpful
foulfortune Yeah it’s really frustrating because the level of effort to defend it is so much lower than to attack it, but once you figure out the technical changes then it’s super effective.
Thanks for the valuable insights on the Crab Ride AND on how to train in order to help become familiar with a position!
Nick has beautiful Jiujitsu. Got to roll with him once. What I remember from that roll is that if he feels you have a "weak side" with your guard, he's going to exploit it!
Came back to this today and it did not disappoint 👍🏼
Very good, motivated to learn this.
Jon - extremely helpful, thank you.
Incredible. This is exactly what I wanted.
This is great ! Always wondered these black and white details about the crab
efromme Yeah it’s great having some really knowledgeable people on this topic who can actually break it all down into a digestible overview. Has been great working with Nick and Daniel the last week.
thanks to Nick Salles for the masterclass really well put together ;)
Thank u guys so much for this! Much appreciated
Kar Weng Loo No problem thank you for watching!
3 of my favorite ❤💪🏽✊🏽💯🙏🏽
I'd love to see more finishes!
There are too many stuff to learn in Jiujitsu. Man, I've never heard of this thing. Still, if I meet a guy using this skill, I definitely would have tosurrender my back to him without knowing what's happening to me. Darn it.
시늬수 crab ride is pretty modern so don’t stress if you’ve never heard of it. It’s the next step after being comfortable w berimbolo
Thanks for posting a vid with a lot of sweet details. Would be great if you could make a vid on how to get into the crab ride position.
Chun Yin Chu This will be coming soon with Daniel Maira next!!
Excellent use of vocabulary my man!
this brown belt has a very good communication and bjj vision. He might be a great teacher
This is incredible stuff Jon! I would love to see a good breakdown of the “x position” that you see guys make with their legs in the crab ride too. There seems to be different options depending on which leg is on top of the other in this “x position.”
I’ve never seen a systematized breakdown on all the various options so that’d be amazing.
As far as I understand it, let's say you put the x on his right leg. If your left leg is on top of your right leg (right foot and shin connected to his inner part of the knee), than you create a torque on his knee to the outside which is easier than to go for the twister hook. If right leg is on top of the leg (left foot and shin connected to his inner part of the knee) than it's easier to go for the leg drag (on his left side). Hope it makes sense...
Nick is 🤯🤯
Literally everything I want
愛B ē k o n d i k k u Happy to deliver!
I have a problem right now where the person pushes my shoulders and they try to boot scoot away at the same time, even if i have the pant grip, creating a big separation from my hips to their hips. Anyway to remedy this? I'm pretty short so when they seperate so much I can't get the lapel grip or the shoulder grip. I usually just come up for the leg drag. Thanks for the video btw!
Can you please make a video on crab ride entries?
seems like there might be a way to grab this position from top turtle or when someone inverts on you
Great video 👍 Thanks!
I’ve watched this like 20 times this week, great stuff! Any tips for maintaining the bottom crab ride hook?
thank you for this video, i just subscribed to Nick Salles's youtube channel!
Mark Lee Nick is the man so much knowledge!!
nice details!
whats interesting is that the position doesnt require a huge amount of flexibility as most people think
Crazy amount of mobility isn't required; however the more flexible you are the more efficient the berimbolo becomes.
Is danny just doing the mikey squat back there as an easter egg. or does he just also do the mikey squat naturally?
Hahaha yeah those dudes are always in the Mikey squat lol!
Still feel like my pea brain cannot comprehend lol found myself being the crab and getting ridden in comp lol. Trying to figure out what the heck was going on
6:05- Musumeci ali no canto
Dude in the back casually sitting like Mikey Musumeci
Why would u ever invert> pivot and dive
wow thanks for long video 😄
권혁일 Thanks for watching, was gonna make it shorter but decided if people don’t want to watch it then they can turn it off I would rather over deliver to the people who really want a lot of content.
@@JonThomasBJJ I always want more infomation so long video is better ! thanks Jon
portugues subtitles pls!!!
But HOW do you get in this position is my true question ahahah
Anyway thanks for all the details, perfect as always !!
El Matador Gonna do a video soon on a bunch of different set ups form guard, then also a video on a bunch of different set ups from the top position.
Great video, and super explained! Thanks, it will increase my game 🦀 🙏 oss
