  • This video I go over the foundations of understanding the Matrix back take, as well as show my favorite way for setting it up. I show set ups from X Guard, Omoplata, Cross Guard, and the Key Master. in addition I have a lot of sparring footage to demonstrate how to actually use these techniques in sparring. Comment and let m know if you have any questions or requests.

      That's what I was thinking. I'm trying to figure out why you would do a K guard style backtake if you can just do this. Maybe it's just that you have more options to a attack the legs with a k guard type of entry. Duno

    I’ve been attacking it from Choi bar or legs on back position when my opponent postures. It’s a nice series of movements because the top/outside leg just consistently comes over the top, then I shift my hips square to the floor, turn my hips and throw the top leg over, shift hips square, etc etc

    Love the format Jon. I watched this a few times then did a drilling session and I was getting the technique from all the situations you showed; I could never quite get this to work previously, I think the details on getting up on your shoulder and making sure you don't go too deep with the matrix hook made all the difference - thanks Jon!

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  3 года назад

      Yeah that one or my favorite ways to do it, the high shoulder variation is so fast. That being said when guys stay low or back step it’s important to have good crab ride and x hook finishes.

    Thank you Thomas, hope you enjoyed your stay in Haugesund!
    I would not mind your take on the X-guard, especially entries and how to link it to DLR or collar sleeve:)

      Hey buddy I play x a lot but it’s not my main focus right now so I’ll probably wait a bit before releasing some deeper content on it, I like to do deep dives before dropping these huge breakdowns.

    So the matrix is a back take from the K guard position 🤔. Thank you for this video I learned a lot. Can’t wait to work on it.
