I love how he takes off the mask and reads the letter as Bruce Wayne. His whole demeanor changes and he thanks Flash as Bruce Wayne. That is how I took at the scene. A tender mercy. Loved the moment and the movie as a whole!
It's also a sign that Batman let himself be human again. Batman is as much an alter ego as it is a symbol, a symbol Bruce willingly becomes and maintains at all times. Because on some level it separates him from what hes been through. To take off the mask to read a letter, in the presence of someone no less, is something Batman never does. Its amazing what the right friend can do for someone.

It just hit me that this was the kind of closure Batman needed to hear when he desperately came to the grave of his parents in Mask of the Phantasm. I would like to think he was already on this path when he made friends in the JL . But like the impact of that subversion of fate's kind of lost in comics cause they are so endless and like making Batman as everyone's superior. I would prefer thinking that in the DCAU despite Batman Beyond or maybe since JLU was made after it Bruce could have countered the state of his life in Beyond being without friends cause he sealed himself off. And even then if the Epilogue episode is to be beleived he at least still has Terry as like his idk third chance at not dying alone and full of darkness.
yes, but in this movies. The letter said: There's only one thing I know about life. I know some things happen by chance. We fight for what we lost. Love always, your father. Thomas Wayne
I just noticed that Barry moves to be behind Batman right when he reads the letter. 0:49 This allowed Bruce to cry without having anyone seeing him. Subtle, but, I believe, intentional.

There is a reason why Flash is always the heart. He's the one, not Clark, that is the Hope for humanity, for the future, for him himself. batman doesn't lay on the "how could you be so irresponsible" message with Flash for time traveling to save his mom because he gets it better than anyone else could. Barry Allen has by far the most interesting relationship with Batman of any Flash. their common ground makes their differences that much more significant. I've never been as interested in Wally West, let alone the others, but when it comes to interactions with Batman the interest deficit grows a lot.
I remember a line in the comic (sorry if it isn't 100 accurate didn't read it in a while): Batman: I don't blame you, if I had your powers, I'd have done the very same thing
I think he also realizes that such a lecture would be pointless and unnecessary. Yes Barry screwed up, but he witnessed and endured the consequences first hand, and more importantly he fixed his mistake and learned from it. Ripping into him for it would accomplish nothing.
In Justice League Unlimited when they were going through different timelines or talking about them getting reset, Martian Manhunter asked Batman, what if Batman no longer exists? Then he said it would be fine by him. From the Savage Time Episode.

Superman was always the beacon of Hope and strength Batman was always the cunning and moral Wonder Woman was always the courage and determination Green Lantern was always the Vigilant and organized Aqua man was the most honest and instinctive but the Flash... the Flash was the very heart and soul of the team. it's always said that for the fastest man alive he is always late because he doesn't just save people, he befriends them afterward and helps them deal with the aftermath too. no better issue of the flash covers this than one where he saves everyone from their apartment complex burning to the ground, but then afterward he actually rebuilds the entire structure from scratch so they wouldn't be homeless afterward. there is a reason why the Justice League turned into the Justice Lords in the alternate reality where they lost the Flash.

The moment when you hear Batman’s voice change from the deep gritty to just his voice shows how much it means. It’s a small thing to notice but a brilliant way of showing the meaning of it to him.
now that is an amazing scene! Sad to see DC being able to deliver one of the best animations, but suck so bad at understanding the characters and doing a good story in real life movies
I think the reason the animation films are usually good is cuz the execs always paid more attention and money to the live action projects, giving the team in the animation Department more creative freedom.
This moment should be referenced in the future events as this is one of the most significant moments in Batman’s history. All that money, gadgets, brains will never give him a chance to say things to his father he would’ve wanted to say to his father. Flash is indeed a hell of a messenger! This is my 50th time watching this iconic scene.
It’s ironic but the one thing that gave him any chance to speak or get anything from his father after such a long time ends up being someone who understands his own pain. The friendship between Bruce and Barry, both with their own feelings of losing a loved one and flash being able to give Bruce a gift that means so much to him just really gives me life tbh
I always loved Batman and Flash's friendship. Batman always seemed to have a soft spot for him and Flash always seemed to get through to him more so than many of the Justice League members. This was proof of how much he respects Batman.
0:39 I love the little detail where you can see Bruce's emotional defenses drop for a second, like "wait a minute, is that?!" before returning to his standard stoic demeaner. xD
This scene is one of my favourite parts of the whole movie. It really encapsulates the mutual respect and confidence between Batman and Barry. Batman once said that if his parents weren't murdered, Barry is the kind of person he hopes he'd be.
Conroy's delivery at the ends makes me cry in the most wonderful way. Wow, what an actor! What a way to close the movie! I like revisiting this scene from time to time. Props to the animation team as well, of course!
I love how he grabs the later and brings it up to his face. Just 2 words, "For Bruce" is enough for him to carefully examine it and confirm it came from his father
0:44 Batman took off his hood because he, more than anything, wanted to read the letter from his father; not as Batman, but as Bruce Wayne. He got the best gift he could've ever hoped for: a letter, from a loving father to his son.
In my headcannon for the perfect DC timeline, this letter helps Bruce get some closure and finally give himself permission for himself to be happy. Like, when I watch the graveyard scene from Mask of The Phantasm, and then watch this scene, I tear up a bit think about how proud the Wayne's would be of their son, as well as how much that in spite of all he has achieved for Gotham, their greatest wish would be for him to be happy.
Bruce choosing to read the note first instead of having Barry set it aside while hes fixing the utility belt really shows how much it hurts losing someone you love. Also the fact that he instantly knew it was his father too.
I love how Bruce for a split second become a kid again. He recognized his father’s handwriting and he comes that kid in the alley again. His father was able to tell him everything he ever wanted to hear and it showed. He said he was so proud of him, so angry that he couldn’t see him now, and also he was so happy that even though his life was stolen in the night of Gotham it fueled him to be its greatest protector, The Dark Knight.
I love Flash and Batman's relationship, because Batman treats him like a little brother as in "I'm smarter then you, but I recognize your skills and know how to help you always and I'll be there for you
I always love how whenever superheroes have their heartfelt moment, they always take off their mask, because they are reading it as their real identity, and not their superhero persona
Such a pleasing scene and epic way to end a Flashpoint. Barry learned how to better deal with losing his mother at a young age, but also got the gift of memories spent with her. Plus providing Bruce with some closure he’s been looking for his whole life. Creating the Flashpoint was a mistake yes, but with the insane difficulty of either fixing, undoing or making up for it, it shows that something positive can come out of it. It’s not a reward or gift for making a mistake, but instead it’s for having the discipline to correct the mistake and learn from it.

Its amazing what the right friend can do for someone.
he also slumps his shoulders slightly, to support himself in that moment. he wasn't the Dark Knight in that moment he was an emotional son who missed his parents greatly. A memento mori
The contents of the letter according to the comics:
""Dear son,
There's only one thing I know about life. I know some things happen by chance. And some things happen because we make them happen. Barry Allen was once haunted by the past. But when he became the Flash, he left the ghosts behind. He found love, a family. And for the first time ever...friends. Barry thought yesterday was behind him...but somebody wouldn't let him escape it. When Barry came to me for help, I turned him away. I'm not the hero of this story. I'm a man who's been corrupted by his own unbearable pain. I'm a man who has too much blood on his hands to be called good. Your friend taught me we can't only live a life for those we've lost. We have to live a life for those we still have. If I got a second chance, I would hope I'd come to understand that. To live that...like you should, Bruce. That's all parents want for their children. What we never had. Your mother and I want you to be happy. Promise me you'll try. And I will too...wherever I am.
Love always, your father -- Thomas."
wow, so powerful and emotional :'(
It just hit me that this was the kind of closure Batman needed to hear when he desperately came to the grave of his parents in Mask of the Phantasm.
The letter said:
There's only one thing I know about life. I know some things happen by chance. We fight for what we lost.
Love always, your father.
Thomas Wayne
I was wondering what the letter said. 🥺🥺🥺 That made me emotional!
and then thomas got transported to the main continuity to take over gotham with bane, kill alfred just to make bruce stop becoming batman
I just noticed that Barry moves to be behind Batman right when he reads the letter. 0:49 This allowed Bruce to cry without having anyone seeing him. Subtle, but, I believe, intentional.
I don't think it was intentional. It was meant to be. Seeing his father's handwriting and him telling Bruce that he loves him always. A father who's son is a legend.

Flash may have made a massive mistake trying to save his mom and altered the timeline. And in the end realized he was not meant to save her. But through his mistake he ended giving not only himself peace, but also giving it to Bruce and to his father in another timeline. Thomas got the chance to tell his son how much he loved him and Bruce got the chance to hear it. That’s freaking beautiful bro.

batman doesn't lay on the "how could you be so irresponsible" message with Flash for time traveling to save his mom because he gets it better than anyone else could.
Barry Allen has by far the most interesting relationship with Batman of any Flash. their common ground makes their differences that much more significant. I've never been as interested in Wally West, let alone the others, but when it comes to interactions with Batman the interest deficit grows a lot.
I remember a line in the comic (sorry if it isn't 100 accurate didn't read it in a while):
Batman: I don't blame you, if I had your powers, I'd have done the very same thing
I think he also realizes that such a lecture would be pointless and unnecessary. Yes Barry screwed up, but he witnessed and endured the consequences first hand, and more importantly he fixed his mistake and learned from it. Ripping into him for it would accomplish nothing.
Honestly Wally West and Dick Grayson relationship is solid to its quite interesting to
The fact that they probably understand each other the most in the justice league yet are still so radically different, its why I love their dynamic.

I blame WB. Their executives are the one that always screws it up.
They never got a chance on the big screen
I think the reason the animation films are usually good is cuz the execs always paid more attention and money to the live action projects, giving the team in the animation Department more creative freedom.
The letter was so important the real Bruce Wayne came out to read it.
If my lost loved one gave me a letter from the beyond, I'm taking off my mask too.

Flash: I made Batman cry
Bouncer: Right this way
It's amazing how he can still remember his dad's writing after all these decades
When Batman wipes his eyes and turns, the line I anticipated him saying was closer to, "You tell..... *NO one!"*
Well he would still say a genuine thanks first... But puts cowl back... And "You tell this to... No one!"
That “Thank You” was so sincere and severe… it almost made tear up.
Batman is truly amazing
At 1:11 right after Bruce calls Flash a “messenger”, flash looks the spitting image of Hermes (the messenger god) and even runs off like Hermès does.
Yes Batman takes everything in his life serious but he’s still human. He isn’t just an emotionless man like some see him.
No, It's Bruce Wayne who's still alive within Batman. Remember he took off his mask before reading the letter. That was for a reason.
This clip is why The Flash will always be my favorite member of the Justice League and why The Flashpoint Paradox will always be my favorite DC movie.
I love how Barry gave Bruce some space when he was reading the letter, no one should see the bat cry lol
I've watched this a million times and I still shed a tear every time when this scene comes up.
Awesome. Flash is seriously underrated in most people minds for some reason. He is just totally awesome.
"You're one hell of a messanger"
It felt like a reference to flash being inspiresd by Hermes

When Barry realized he made Batman cry, he ran like hell
MAN SAID GOTTA GO
"You're one hell of a messenger, thank you" 😪 right in the feels, man.
I can't believe I'm saying this but for the first time in my life I actually feel sorry for Bruce. I lost my mom last year to heart failure. After the wake one of my mom's friends sent me a letter in the mail my mom written saying she loved me and was proud of me
Welcome to the Salty Spitoon. How tough are ya'?
Flash: I made Batman smile and cry at the same time.
R-right this way, sir.
One of my favorite comic book movie moments
And then you realize that this timeline ended with War of Apokolips where everyone either turned into a cyborg slave or dead and Earth is dying.
Edit : wtf?! 600++ likes?! This is the most like I ever get, thanks everyone!
And now Flash has to go back into the past
@@GamingGod-fl2yr flash always fucking up the timeline
Was a good movie though
Reason being, flash and Batman didn’t grow up with the hardships that made them strong enough to always beat their opponents
Wait so is this new 52 Batman?
this is honestly the nicest thing anyone's done for Batman.
Conroy's Batman was the most stoic, cold and emotinally barriered of just about any other portrayal. The only one coming close being Michael Keaton's version. Hearing that tremble in his voice made this scene very endearing
It's funny how for many years reading comics since I was 6, I was never a flash fan. But It was this beautiful animation that truly made me a true fan of flash. Dude's just simply outstanding.
