I watched this video 2 years ago. Today my dad woke up and fell out of the bed because he wasnt able to use his left arm. I asked him if he feels it and he said no its weird. I asked him to hold his hands infront of him and turn them so that the palms are upwards which only worked with his right one while is left one fell down. I called Emergency services asap and when they arrived he walked to them and laid down. Not even a minute later the Doc told me to wait while my dad had a stroke. 5 Hours later I now know the damage is there but my fast reaction and the imediate reaction of the docs maybe saved his life. Thank you for the knowledge which enabled me to put the clues together

I enjoy all of your videos! However, I would like to point out that if a stroke affects Broca's area it is similar to Wernicke's area in that it causes Aphasia which is the loss of the ability to express or understand speech. When you mentioned slurred speech, I believe you may have been referring to dysarthria which is caused by damage to the motor nerves controlling the speech muscles. The primary symptom of dysarthria is slurred speech production while the primary symptom of Broca's aphasia is the loss of the ability to express language. Thanks for all of the great work you do! Just thought I would clarify. I am a speech-language pathologist and couldn't help myself. :)

Doing great! Working hard to control my risk factors, Diet, exerciser, medications. Blood sugar and blood pressure well controlled now. Before the stroke, could barely walk a quarter mile, now doing 5 miles a day! I have alexia, which scrambled my ability to read, so I use technology to compensate and read to me, but have seen small improvements in reading. Like you are doing, I wanted to know my enemy so I study stroke treatment and improvement in technology. My motto is Never Again! Stay strong! I lost a lot, I will lose no more!

Indeed. Extraordinarily presented. I had a TIA about 2 years ago. MRI showed It was in my cerebellum. Doc said about the size of half a golfball tissue loss.
Had some right side coordination issues, that resolved in 3 weeks.
They did corotid, temporal ultrasound for blood flow. They checked for bad heart valves and atrial fibrillation. All good. Doc said that they can pinpoint causation in 50 % . Stayed in ICU 5 days, whilst they monitored and kept blood thin with drugs. Recurrence risk peaks at 4 to 5 days.
Oddly enough , I’d had a bad tooth pulled about a week earlier. There are some reports that suggest that dental “trauma” does irritate the epithelial cells and can increase stroke risk.
Your thought on this would be of interest.
And, thank you for your seriously well presented video!

had my stroke on October 18th, 2018 at around 2:30pm. I made a full recovery, but they still have no idea what caused it. they said I had high blood pressure but are still looking for an actual cause because I was so young when it happened. I was 30 which is apparently very young to have a stroke. so just in case they put me on heart medication and anti cholesterol along with aspirin. I was at therapy when it happened and the hospital was right down the street so I was able to get help fairly quickly. I would begin to lose function of the left side of my body, and then it would settle down and i would regain function again. that happened five to six times before it finally settled down, they kept me in the hospital for two days to monitor me.

Beautiful and clear presentation, thank you. I suggest to consider your body as the best friend of your life so that you will not do anything to harm your body-friend, particularly what effects your brain like alcohol and drugs. The only drug permitted is LIFE in its beauty and power!

    • @kleineente6475
      @kleineente6475 Год назад

@Elizabeth Brower I'm sorry for what you're going through ma'am. I hope your health is getting better.
Your statements are not wrong. But if you're talking about health, you must consider every aspect of your life.
The person you comment to is only kindly reminding people how unimportant alcohol and smoking are. Those two are the most common etiology of diseases. You know people these days are addicted to alcohol and smoking...
About your statement you can get ischaemic stroke with healthy life, I think you must consider your lifestyle. If your lifestyle is poor, then your life is not healthy. So hypertension, stress, poor sleep, etc, all of them affect your body's health to develop diseases.
      God bless.

    • @kleineente6475
      @kleineente6475 Год назад

@Elizabeth Brower I see you're a Christian ma'am. I don't smoke nor drink alcohol in my whole life (I never drink wine).
Paul said to Timothy, "No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities."
      I Timothy 5:23 NKJV
In studying the Bible you should not just store in the brain one or two verses. Please read the entire passage. Pray before reading the Bible. Or better ask pastor's guidance to study the Bible, ma'am.
About alcohol, I think you're very sensitive about that, ma'am.
These are what I read from articles:
"Liver damage due to too much alcohol can stop the liver from making substances that help your blood to clot. This can increase your risk of having a stroke caused by bleeding in your brain."
"Alcohol consumption has a more direct linear relationship with hemorrhagic stroke, such that consumption of even small amounts of alcohol seem to increase risk of hemorrhage. Heavy alcohol consumption is linked to hypertension, as well as poor blood pressure control in hypertensive patients who consume alcohol."
As you already might know, there are risk factors for hemorrhagic stroke ma'am. Alcohol, genetic, etc.
I never said that you should not drink wine or do anything you like ma'am. Your lifestyle is yours ma'am. But I only comment your previous comment, which is : "please don't lecture us with platitudes". What platitudes?
By the way, why are you assuming that I'm pretending to be a doctor, ma'am?
      God bless you ma'am.

I had my first stroke when I was 39. I have retinopathy in my left eye now. No metabolism irregularities, no diabetes. No atherosclerosis (clean arteries). I have profound auto-immune disease including Antiphospholipid Syndrome. I do have irregular deadly bouts of hypertension caused by hyperaldosteronism, not CV disease, likely aggravated by a myelolipoma on my left posterior adrenal gland. Medication that controls this well (Spironolactone) is now causing Addisonian crisis' frequently. Interesting video.

When I returned home from grocery shopping, I found my room mate dead in the tub. He had left loud music playing so I thought he was taking ashower. He had gone for a 30 minute morning walk earlier, when it was only 16 degrees out (Maine). He had high blood pressure, smoked a lot of pot but not cigarretts. He had just turned 65. The coroner said it was a Ishemic stroke.

My father had an ischemic stoke las Sunday. He went to EC and was transferred to ward later. He had CT scan and MRI scan. I was quite confused why doctor did not use TPA on him. Only aspirin was given to him. Your video is very informative that I realise his stoke might be caused by global reduction of blood flow, a combination of little water intake, cold environment and bad emotion. His symptom was numb and weakness in one arm and dizziness. In his 3days stay in hospital, his arm restored some sensation. Maybe blood supply went a bit normal? But his LDL is not good, doctor put him on cholesterol medicine to prevent future stoke.

Niacin reduces LDL & raises HDL. I take 3-500 mgs, with food, approximately 4 times week…been taking slow release (Enduracin) niacin for 40 + years. Been against statins for 40 years…mainly read their side effects. Latest (2) major studies that came out few months ago agree with me.
Reducing carbs is essential…knowing carbs is another word for SUGAR!!! Sugar kills every organ in your body…so does fructose! Continue to research all these topics on the web-amazing info your likely not told.

My Father was rushed to the hospital and based on his CT Scan he had cerebrovascular infarct right occipital lobe but after 24 hours he died and the doctor said it was due to a Heart Attack or Myocardial infarction. I have no medical background and can barely understand why he had a heart attack when I thought that the blockage was in his brain? It was so overwhelming considering I saw him literally die in front of me. Can doctors please use layman's terms to help patient's families better understand.

A man told me that his father died at 72 from sudden illness in 2010, then 2 months later his mother aged 70 suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and died from complications.

50% increase in strokes in young people from 2007 - 2017. The only thing I can think of that started around 2007 was the introduction of the first smart phones. Could EMF radiation be a factor?

I had an ischemic stroke when I was 8 years old (45 years ago) . The whole right side was affected, and now have focal dystonia. They did not have this neat info 45 years ago. I did not have diabetes or smoke. My doctor, the chief pediatric neurologist at Childrens Hospital said it was a "freak accident". I recently had surgery on my right extremities to help them open and to assist with my gait.
The doctors in the ED, where I went to first didn't have a clue, and kept me there from 8pm to about midnight, when they called the ped neurologist. I really would like to know more, but there was not computers back then, so my reports are probably destroyed or in a dusty, old room.

How long does a patient who had stroke due to a blood clot need to stay on medication? I been hearing different opinions from different doctors some said life long some said 6 months some said 1 year. Why is the opinion so divided? Please could you clarify, thank you.

tobacco ? Is a risk any less for chew ?And might this be inevitable regardless of blood-born lipid concentrations ? Is this known to be irrespective of any genetic markers ?

About 4 years ago I had a bad fall. The ER doctor thought I might have had a concussion. The MRI showed no concussion but that I have had several strokes. Everything seems to still work except my writing is poor, short term memory is gone and I get confused easily. I wish I still had enough brain activity to understand this interesting video.

Your videos are very good for medicine enthusiastic persons that are too layman to easily digest technical terms, very well done, respectful work.
By the way, someone can explain me if the Atherosclerosis looks alike an infection and/or if it have pus inside it (since the intern composition looks alike)?
Does the brain heals itself when there is an Atherosclerosis that is not inflated enough to block the veins? How can someone prevent having Atherosclerosis (apart from tobacco)?
Can certain natural or day-to-day substances (that is not a remedy) "solver" this Atherosclerosis plaque or prevent it to form?
