I went silent on my ex because he was happy to keep me around for another four years despite still being ‘unsure what he wants’ and treating me poorly. Finally looked objectively at how he’d treated me over time and realised he never cared much in the first place, certainly never put me before himself which I would do without thinking. I realised I had just been breadcrumbed and that was that. Let myself be upset for as long as I needed and have not felt any desire to contact him although there is sadness still.
Absolutely! When you're in a place where you feel hopeless that saying anything will have any impact, then it becomes a matter of "what's even the point, when things will always stay the same?"
He broke up with me by email. We never fought before, we always talked our issues out. I wanted to just say good bye and not end so badly. He wouldn't talk to me. It's been 2 months, apparently he met someone when we were dating and flew overseas to see her. So, you can also add that one of the reasons they stopped contact was because they were ashamed of themselves.
That's tough to go through for sure. The root cause of stonewalling, pulling away contact etc... is always emotional safety, not feeling safe to express their feelings, sometimes that's shame, guilt, processing, ability to find words/feelings etc...
