This one was a real b*tch to get past copyright, worst one in a while! 😓What's your fav gangster movie?

This might be it, and thank you muchly for all that you do. 👍✌❤
Also, tell Tara we miss her. 😊
Jen, The Departed.
Your gangster name should be either
Jen "Stacks n Stacks" or
Jenny Champagne
I love Donnie Brasco with Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. It has the most heart.
My Favorite is "Batman: The Long Halloween" (2021); it's one of the Best DC Animated Movies IMO, and so good that it took 2 Parts to tell the whole Story!! Much about "The Long Halloween" focuses heavily on Organized Crime: Who and How they Impact or Influence the lives of everybody in Gotham City...
“Jenny was the kind of gal who rooted for the bad guy in movies.” 😊
"Jenny was the type of gal who had watched all the James Bond movies, and liked them"
" Jenny was the kinda gal who raises her glass to champagne in a scene " forget about it
I'm that kind of girl as well definitely in crime joints like this
I read that in Robert Mitchum's voice.
"Jenny and me was like peas and carrots"
"All the reactors were there: Low-key Jenny Stacks, Popcorn Cassie. George & Simone came down from Canada, Ashleigh was there...even Beans!"
We called her Ashleigh Three Times, because she always said, 'Hi, yes, hellooo!"
😂😂😂

RIP, Ray Liotta (Henry Hill)
RIP, Frank Vincent (Billy Batts)
RIP, Paul Sorvino (Paul Cicero)
They made this movie one of the best experiences of all time.
I must have been out of the loop, I didn't know Frank Vincent died. Holy crap.
@@migiplayz91 Same! I guess he's not quite as famous as Paul Sorvino, but he was in The Sopranos and everything! I don't recall seeing Sorvino in anything since maybe Romeo + Juliet!
RIP, Gina Mastrogiacomo (Janice Rossi). She's also in The Naked Gun 2 1⁄2: The Smell of Fear
Also RIP Tony Sirico (side character but a good role in Goodfellas....was an actual mobster)
@@mikeoxstiff She was also in a Seinfeld episode.
A Bronx Tale (1993) is a pretty good mobster movie too! Robert De Niro is in it and directs it. 🙂
Excellent movie. She hasn't reacted to it yet? Now yous can't leave.🤕
Let's go even darker, should she watch Sleepers (1996)
This was the movie that Joe Pesci won his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for. So well deserved!
The young boy with the sicilian name.
De niros son.
In real life did the exact opposite in real life & destroyed everything he had.
Including all respect.
I love that you say Henry "ratted on" the others. It shows that you really got into the spirit of the movie and the mindset of the characters.
Never rat on your friends! 👌
@@jenmurrayxo man who Henry and Karen is talking with is the real guy who arranged Henry Hill's witness relocation program.
It's still one of the greatest films ever made.
My fav gangster movie so far 👍👍
The guy in the movie getting them into witness protection was the real guy that that got the real Henry Hill into witness protection.
That scene with Scorcese's mother is still one of the funniest things I have ever seen on film. 😂❤
One dog goes one way, and the other dog goes the other way. And this guy's sayin', "Whaddya want from me?'
I friggin love that 😂😂👍
@Jen Murray she was in casino as well his mother. And she was in the godfather part 3. Scorase and coppala are friends.
He came in, youse came in…😂
And I was worried that there weren’t going to be any good reactions today, and then Jen comes through with the clutch. Thanks so much for reacting to this absolute classic film! The soundtrack is also a banger.
Totally a banger! I actually loved this movie! ☺️👍
Jenny 4 eyes 😂! Another classic movie 👍🏿
What a coincidence! I was thinking exactly the same thing.
@@jenmurrayxo definitely check King of Comedy (1980) starring Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis it's a different kind of Scorsese movie than his more well known offerings.
“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster.” The perfect words to start quite a tour de force of action, violence, and drama. RIP to Ray Liotta, Paul Sorvino, Frank Sivero, and all those who are gone!
Highly recommend checking out Taxi Driver! Different from Scorsese’s gangster repertoire, and something completely amazing!!
Taxi Driver is a real trip. One of the Great Movies!
There's a great comedy based on the same character (Henry Hill), that picks up essentially where this movie leaves off. It's called My Blue Heaven, and stars Steve Martin and Rick Moranis. It was released very shortly before Goodfellas, but is much less well known. It's a fun ride, and a humorous take on the witness relocation program and mob guys. Lol
What's funny is that "My Blue Heaven" was written by Nora Ephron, who was married to the co-writer of this movie, Nicholas Pileggi.
Really, I never knew this. I'll definitely have to check it out
To round out your Joe Pesci experience you must watch _My Cousin Vinny._ Pesci is great in it, but the real standout is Marissa Tomei, in her Oscar-winning role as his fiancé.
That one long shot is one of the most famous one take tracking shots in cinema history. I was waiting for you to notice while you were singing "....and then he kissed meeeeeee", and then you did. 🤣🤣🤣
It was so cool 👍👍
Picturing Jenny driving around in her gangster car always having a shovel in her trunk is the best antidepressant ever when you think about it and are having a tough day.
For me, "The Wolf of Wall Street" is Martin's Masterpiece.
This movie really draws you in. You see the attraction of the life even though you know it will end badly. This is not just a great gangster movie, but one of the greatest movies of all time.
"If you name your kid Paulie, you're kind of asking for him to be a gangster". Funny AF!
4:10 one of my favorite moments of the movie happens right after that. The judge enters, takes one look at Henry's attourney who has a big smile on his face, then an almost resigned nod and a half-hearted "Counselor, proceed" from the judge them smash-cut to Henry leaving a free man. Brilliant
One of my all time favorite movies of any genre. Love the "Layla" montage showing all the bodies. Can't hear that song without thinking of dead bodies.
Other Scorsese greats:
Raging Bull, The Aviator, Cape Fear, Taxi Driver, The Color Of Money. There's so many great films and most of them aren't about gangsters.
The Aviator, Leonardo DiCaprio's best performance IMO.
And I’m a huge fan of the rarely watched Kundun
Scorsees made some great non-mob movies too. Check out "The Last Waltz" or "Shine A Light," both great concert movies.
Raging Bull and Taxi Driver are some Marty classics
28:52 That guy is the real lawyer who defended Ray Liotta's person and wrote the book this was based on.
The fact that Scorsese managed to take Joe Pesci - a pretty small, sweet-faced, lovable guy - and make him one of the most intimidating characters in cinema history says a LOT about his film making. The direction, the photography, the script... absolutely everything was on point for that scene.
Yeah right? I’m terrified of the guy. In the old days, had misunderstandings with guys much bigger and tougher
If you've read the book, the real Tommy was 100 times the monster that Pesci portrayed. He was a big hulking dude that was pretty much descibed as a homicidal maniac. The real guys name was Tommy Desimone.
That's why George Carlin Prays to him!
Your tie really made it for me. The only thing missing was Jen serving up some pasta! 🍜
After all these years, it's still impactful.
My fav gangster movie so far 👍
@@jenmurrayxo Wait until you see Godfather II. It's magnificent.
BTW Jen, Italians don't call it sauce we call it gravy-lol.
The real Henry Hill used to call the Howard Stern show sometimes. He was a tortured miserable awful person in real life who died an addict and unhappy. The guy "Spider" they killed was never found and his family still has no closure. Hill knew where they put that poor guy and never told anyone. Spider's sister would call the show when Henry was on. He was a bad person but the calls to the show were entertaining.
Howard Stern is the Greatest Interviewer of All Time. And Credit to him, he stayed On Air during 9-11. he had listeners calling from right around the Towers!
@@jamesalexander5623 I hate Howard Stern now because he turned into a fascist but back in the day he did have a good show.
"They are going to fall in gangster love"! Priceless.
An absolutely wonderful (non-gangster) Martin Scorsese directed film is "HUGO" It is one of the most cinematically beautiful films I have ever seen. Family friendly and perfect for your channel, enjoy!
Another great non-gangster Scorsese, but still a period piece, but not family-friendly is Age of Innocence with Daniel Day Lewis. Wonderfully mesmerizing! (And now since I mention it, it's probably time for a rewatch.)
Henry did not stay clean. By the 2000's he was drinking again and made several drunk appearances on the Howard Stern Show where he would argue with callers claiming to be in the mob and still looking for him. He died in 2012 from heart disease caused by smoking.
Stacks Edwards was played by a young Samuel L. Jackson. And the "actor" who played the FBI agent at the end was actually the real life FBI agent who worked with Henry.
When I was a kid, my mom decided to go back to school to finish her degree. So on Tuesday and Thursday nights, Dad had us, so our Tuesday ritual was going to the local second-run dollar theater. It was a small 3-screen theater, and sometimes all the flicks would be R-rated. That was the situation the night he took me to see this. I remember on the drive home, he told me “Don’t tell your mother I let you watch this,” but I thought it was awesome. Even to this day, it’s one of my desert island top 5 flicks.
Goodfellas is a good contender for the greatest movie of the 90s, along with Pulp Fuction, Three Colors Blue, Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List, etc. Ohhh you definitely need to watch Godfather part II, that's a must!
Godfather Part II .... That's part of the Religion!
"Stax" was also the name of a record label that featured classic R&B acts
If u didn't recognize Spider then you have never watched the Sopranos. its a must watch. Maybe the best TV Series ever
"Jenny Stacks". Yep, you nailed it. That's your gangster name.
Love the way you kept saying "sauce" with the accent! I wasn't sure you'd like this one, since you have such a hard time with horror movies, but I was glad to see that you not only enjoyed it but kept correctly guessing what was going to happen before it happened. Very impressive, Stacks!
The tracking shot into the restaurant was Oscar worthy all by itself.
"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to watch Jen react to this."
Hey, You're a Funny Guy!
@@jamesalexander5623 Funny how?
@@liquidgeorge Ya know, you're Funny like how you tell a Story, ya know just really Funny!
At the beginning while introducing the wise guys they said “ Michael Franchese” that’s Michael Frances that has a RUclips channel now. He said he had to leave the theatre when him and his GF at the time saw it because she didn’t know what he did
I like that this was the film where we finally get to see Paul Sorvino as a badass. For 2 decades before, he was always cast as the “frustrated supervisor” type role. Usually, he was a police commissioner or a bureaucrat who had just had too much and was praying for just a few stress free days. Although, he did shine in the early 80s in the film adaptation of the play “That Championship Season.” That play was his passion project. He was in the Broadway cast, the film, and even directed the remake in the late 90s. Both versions of the film adaptation are awesome, btw.
I liked another reactors comment on Paulie: "Paulie is interesting. He looks cuddly and scary at the same time."
The Lufthansa heist was actually $5.87 million, which is about $26 million today.
Not only was it one shot, they did it in one take.
There’s a fun story from former mob boss Michael Franzese, when he took his wife to see this movie and was playing it cool until they actually name dropped him in the bar scene. He immediately told his wife “we’re leaving”
My favorite gangster flicks are from the Precode era. The Public Enemy, Little Cesar, Beast of the City, and Manhattan Melodrama.
You could also try some of the Bogart movies like Petrified Forest, High Sierra, The Roaring Twenties, Key Largo, and Dead End.
Also, Jennypenny could work as a gangster name.
Your list actually gave me goosebumps. Fantastic recommendations! I hope Jen will watch some of them.
"The Maltese Falcon" , "The Big Sleep"!
White Heat too. Great movie.
I don’t know if anyone ever notices, when Karen goes to see jimmy and he tells her he has dresses for her. The street signs say “ONE WAY” and “DON’T WALK “. I think Scorsese is saying that she was never going to come back if she went in. 🤔
This is the only movie (VHS) I rewound and watched again immediately.
And yes! Almost always goes bad. 🎥 First half👍🏼2nd half 😔
It's so good! 👍
Another movie you might want to check out is Mean Streets. Its an early low budget masterpiece by Scorsese that is both his first gangster movie and his first movie with Deniro who frickin knocks it out of the park. This movie sets up the iconic collaboration between Deniro and Scorsese that is actually still going on today.
And then of course theres Taxi Driver, which is not gangster so much but does show us the seedy underbelly of life on the streets with gangsterism in it.
Henry Hill never admits to killing anybody, because he couldn't get immunity for that.
I read the book years ago (before the movie came out), its an interesting read.
For another take on this character, check out 'My Blue Heaven' with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, its a comedy about a gangster in witness protection, also inspired by Henry Hill's story.
You are so missed, Ray! What a lovely guy - and actor!
Martin Scorsese has directed 26 movies from 1967-2023, here are three "The Color of Money" (1986), "The Age of Innocence" (1993), and "Gangs of New York" (2002).
Some of the scenes in this film are some of the most iconic of all-time. Such a masterpiece in terms of first person storytelling and pacing.
I love Godfather 2. It's a much slower paced film but the two different story lines paralleling each other is and always will be a classic.
You can the first reactor to do Donnie Brasco and everyone will cheer! I don't know why everyone sleeps on the classic, it's always heavily requested too...
I left comments on other reactors about that.
I dont get it either db is up there with the very best like goodfellas etc. On my list.
Jen, please don't take this the wrong way. But honestly I kind of consider you a " Good Fella " every once and a while you show your " bad streak " heist's , lairs , fat stacks...and so on. Always here, love your reactions! Once again thank you...Eric
Lol I think you're right! 😈
Well said, My Friend!👍 Here is Next Week's Trio, "Wayne's World 2 / Die Another Day / Fargo!!!"
@@tomhoffman4330 Hi Tom, once again thanks for the heads up. I'm surprised that you didn't mention F&F it is also considered an organized crime genre of films.💥
@@e.d.2096 You're Welcome, as always...and, You have NO idea how far the F&F has come since those early days. The "Fast Family" has gone up against quite a few Crime Bosses, but after the 5th Movie...everything goes to another Level!
@@tomhoffman4330 That's why I would like her to continue. I'm actually surprised it's not recommended more 😕
Fun fact the FBI agent talking to Henry is the real life FBI agent who put Henry into witness protection.
Its a Masterpiece of cinema...all the elements are top tier, acting, directing, soundtrack and the great edit!
💯
best portrayal of 'pistol whipping" someone ever in film. Creeper neighbor got his eye moved 2 inches in.
9:52 I always loved that death stare he was giving the guy across the street.
I don't know if it's been posted already, but $420,000 in 1967 (the Air France heist) would be about $3.8 million today. The Lufthansa heist was $5.875 million in 1978, about $27.333 million today. Jimmy never got out of prison; he died of cancer in 1996.
"Jenny BIG Frames" or "Jenny the Wheezer." I LOVE the champagne animation. Makes me want to have champagne ready at all times.
Jenny the Lush - drinks more champagne than any other reactor.
@@markhamstra1083 "The 'ANImated' Lush." (Que "Archer.")
🥂
As a lil piece of trivia, the tall guy with the beard in the “Shine box” scene is Vito Picone from the 50’s doo-wop group The Elegants , had their hit “Little Star.”
If you want the lowdown on the real life versions on the characters in the movie look up:
Paul Vario (Paul Sorvino), Jimmy Burke (Robert DeNiro), and Tommy DiSimone (Joe Pesci).
After reading the book, I wondered why most of the book wasn't in the movie. The Air-France caper could have been a movie by itself.
Scorsese is the best at storytelling in the gangster genre. Great film, great director. Great reaction, Jen! AKA Jenny Cateyes AKA Jenny Shirt Suit AKA Jenny Wisdom Nugget
Jen that cute little old lady was Martin Scorsese's mother
Jen that closeup of De Niro you liked during editing of that scene De Niro just told Scorsese and the editor one suggestion Cream as in the band for the background music. Those opening chords of Sunshine of your Love were a perfect choice
One of the all time rewatch movies. Doesn’t matter where it is, if I see it on tv, at any point, I’m watching it. Such a great movie.
And I love how the music mostly matches up with the era & I think that really underscores the wonderful pacing.
Each of the “eras” is defined and gets you invested in each piece & also the overall story.
Epic film.
Scorsese does other non-gangster films. Two of the best are Taxi Driver-written by the brilliant Paul Schrader-and The Age of Innocence, based on the Edith Wharton novel.
It’s worth mentioning, too, that the unique look of Goodfellas is due to the cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, who worked with Scorsese on many of his films.
I'd argue that Scorcese's best works are actually his non-gangster films: Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Bringing Out the Dead, and The King of Comedy.
I know Scorsese gets pegged as a director of gangster movies, but out of 26 films only 6 are about gangsters. He's done a musical, comedies and documentaries. Unfortunately, if you only learn about movies from RUclips you'll only ever hear about his gangster movies. The Scorsese movies I'd recommend (besides Means Streets, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) you check out are The King of Comedy, After Hours, The Age of Innocence and Kundun.
In real life that reason Billy Batts was murdered had nothing to do with the shinebox insult but when Batts was arrested robert deniro’s character was in charge of the loan shark operations and wanted batts out of the way and give him back the loan shark operations
28:52 - That guy is the actual agent that dealt with Henry IRL for Witness Protection.
Two Observations about “Jenny Stacks”
1. She is all about the plan-planning for any venture is part of her DNA….”not having a plan is a plan to fail…” Jenny Stacks quote😅
2. Jenny Stacks is all about face validity…. A hero or tough guy needs to look the part… good shape with muscles and good abs… as Jenny once could have said “it’s not just about the steak, there needs to be lots of sizzle.”
"They really had different prison for gangsters?"
That's part of why "don't snitch" was so effective - everyone *expected* to do some time and if you did they *took care* of you. First of all, you get big shot lawers that get you the best deal possible without snitching, and then inside, you got special treatment, protection, contraband, hookers for conjugal visits, if you were supporting a family working for them, they'd set your family up with a stipend until you got out; aside from the lousy scenery, it was kind of a vacation for them
Jen, I'm gonna watch your reaction, ya just gotta stop bustin' balls!
I saw this movie in 1990 at the movie theater. I couldn't stop thinking about it for many weeks after. I saw it in the theater another ten times and probably 50 to 75 times since then.
Oh yes , I remember in the 40s , he head of the five families ( leader of the mob ) was sent to prison. He had a wing to himself, food delivered from the ritz Hotel ( just previous home ), his furniture, his bed , and a private phone. Alcohol, cigars all his creature conforts.
Tuned in the second I noticed this. Casino was pretty good, but this is a classic.
I expect some shocked eyes behind those Serious Girl Spectacles on this one. 😮😯😳😱
I actually loved it! ☺️👍
lmfao jenny four eyes!! lmao i love your sense of humor, keep up the reactions and content lots of love from one Canadian to another
Jenny "the shovel" Murray. She carried a shovel everywhere so she wouldn't get whacked. ❤
A++ reaction btw!
Thanks T! ☺️👍
Hi Jen, another gangster movie I highly recommend for you to react to is: The Untouchables (1987) set in 1930's Chicago and also starring Robert De Niro as the legendary gangster Al Capone & Kevin Costner as the Treasury agent Elliot Ness, who has sworn to bring him down. Sean Connery co-stars as an Irish cop who teams up with Ness. Please react to asap :)
No Jenny, Jimmy Conway, whose real name was Jimmy Burke, died in prison in 1996, 7.5 years before he was eligible for parole. Henry Hill left the witness protection program and was a frequent guest on the Howard Stern Show before he died in 2012. He struggled with alcoholism and was often drunk when he was calling into Howard's show. You can find some of the clips here on RUclips.
Yes this is a true story. The book is more detailed and they embellished some stuff and changed the order of certain events for the movie. But it's basically true. The FBI agent at the end that put them in witness protection is the actual agent that did this case in real life, fun fact.
To answer your question. The $420,000 they made off the Air France heist was equivalent to $3.7 million dollars today.
$400k is close to 3 mil today. Multiply by about 7x for early 70s conversion rate. So $2-4 mil is about $14-28 mil.
You brought up gangster names and now I can't get "Jenny Champagne" out of my head.
There are tons of Scorsese movies that are legendary. In particular, I'd recommend Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) for his earliest award winner, a drama starring the mom from The Exorcist, plus Silence (2016), a religious drama starring Andrew Garfield, and Gangs of New York (2002), which will give you a hard taste of Americanism lol. Further shout outs to Taxi Driver (1976) and The Departed (2006). If you become tempted to watch Scorsese's remake of Cape Fear (1991), please watch the original (1962) first!! It'd make for a great side by side comparison.
Jen "The Wheeze" Murray for a gangster name😂😂
Fun fact: Tommy's mom and the old lady in the grocery store in Casino were played by Scorsese's real life mother.
Godfather might be the most masterful but Goodfellas is definitely the most entertaining Gangster movie ever made.
A film filled with some greats, De Niro , Liotta , Sorvino , Pesci and last but not least Murray as Jenny Stacks ! You are one of the stars when you do these Jen . If you like Ray Liotta you should check out Field of Dreams ., but I really wanted to thank you for another great beginning to the weekend . You're a good habit to have !!
You're funny Jen.
10/10
In one word: perfection
Needs to be seen to be believed; in one word: perfection. Every frame, every voice-over, every song - it all comes together at the exact right moment to create the perfect film experience. This film makes you really understand and feel what makes the American mafia so compelling; in the eyes of a kid, who was unfortunate enough to grow up in a tough neighborhood, those gangsters are rock stars. Live fast, die young - but when you die, it ain't gonna be of a glamorous suicide or drug overdose - the ending will be brutal, ugly and sad. And it may very well be one of your best friends that will blow your brains out.
I'll never get tired of watching Goodfellas; the entertainment value of this film is just amazing. It doesn't happen very often that every person involved in the process of making a film is at the peak of his/her game. And rarely do art and entertainment come together the way they did here. Storytelling with impeccable pacing, this is what it's like when a master composer conducts his masterpiece. All hail the king; the most versatile and talented filmmaker of his generation: Martin Scorsese.
My vote: 10 out of 10
Friday night and I'm watching Good Fellas with the beautiful Jen Murray,
Watching Goodfellas with the beautiful Jen Murray.
Two times, Two times
Wow! Jen Murray is on fire cranking out the hits. Nice!
There were a lot of good movies in this era, late 80s/early 90s. Platoon, Wall Street, Goodfellas, JFK, Born on the Fourth of July
One of my absolute favourite films ever. I love Scorsese. Great reaction. You could watch. The colour of money, Hugo, the wolf of wall Street, the departed, the aviator, shutter Island, taxi driver, cape fear, casino, raging bull.........
Henry Hill at first would call the Howard Stern Radio show & then later would show up out of the blue . He was ether drunk or high & would answer phone callers questions & even talk shit with gangsters who called to threaten him . Spiders sister once called in to beg him to reveal where spiders body was , so the family could bury him . Many of the shows are on RUclips & you can listen to them now
Probably someone already pointed it out but being "made" means you become a formal and official member of a Mafia Family. You'll make more money but also have more responsibilities. Theoretically, no one can harm or murder you unless your boss gives the ok, which is why the Billy Batts thing was so important.
