Made me reminisce those days when I was in grade school. Thank you for your clear explanation on this recipe. For beginners like me, we truly appreciate it. Have a beautiful day.🌼
I've made these cookies long before seeing this recipe and will make 2 quick points: 1) Trust me you Do Not Need Salt in this cookie recipe! 2) You Do Not Need to spray your baking sheet with Pam or anything else! Think about it - the butter in the cookie dough is enough to prevent any sticking to the pan! The Real Deal Ole' Fashion recipe is simply: Butter, Sugar, Vanilla Extract, Flour - that's it!!!
I went to Senn High School in Chicago during the 70’s and these cookies were the best! I remember seeing the lunch ladies make them and the cafeteria smelled sooooooo good!
I tried it... they came out great...! I didn't use the Pam, or the sugar on top. I took them to work, and sooooooooo many coworkers that went to CPS started reminiscing...lol.. they loved it..!
I don't remember them having sugar on top. I do remember them being 10 cents each; I would be so excited if I found a dime as I walked to school. I would take a bite of the cookie, then let my tastes buds soak in the goodness! Wash it down with chocolate milk! Highlight of my grammar school days! I don't remember liking any of the food; just the butter cookies. I especially hated the fish on Friday! Never could get a reason as to why we all had to get fish sticks when we weren't all Catholic. The good old days of Christopher Columbus School. Thanks for the memories.
Idk y she's putting sugar on top cuz I know 4 sure there's no sugar on top so I would skip that step & shouldn't oil the cookie sheet either but she's a kid so just change it 2 ur liking instead otherwise pretty good recipe !!! #GoodJobJackie 😉😉
The butter cookies in my school were about 3” Long and harder, not chewy. They were amazing! No extra overkill sugar on top. Butter cookies “as is” are amazing.
I made these last night.....AMAZING!!! BTW, I used salted butter and omitted the additional salt, and they came out just fine. Thanks for the recipe! ;D
Same here. Attended MPHS and their cookies didn't have any damn sugar on top nor did they grease the cookie sheet because of the high butter content in the dough. Google the recipe for accuracy.
Those were just as good. I came here from Ms, and my first taste I could not believe. We recived a snack after lunch, I know up to the fifth grade. Milk and cookies at Lawson. I then went to Julius Hays Hess, then to RONALD AMUNDSEN. The cookie were the same at each school. GREAT!!!
I just made these cookies, I made a mistake and putting to tablespoons of vanilla extract instead of teaspoons. Still delicious nexr time I'll put the right amount n less sugar because it's too sweet for me, my uncle Love's them. Thanks lady for these cookies
You didn’t break one for us to see how the inside is? Are they crisp or chewy? Texture is important. If u doubled the cookie size of ur larger ones, then I think they might be closer to our schools butter cookies. Our schools butter cookies were thick, oval, and about 3” Long.
I tried this recipe but mines taste like a sugar cookie and they was thin.. it's not bad just taste like sugar and butter. But I did try another recipe and it turned out so delicious.
what is the difference ?? butter, or sugar cookies, it's the same as I make, so please tell me what the difference in your recipe please !! I am a big cookie maker and my husband eats all of them lol. good job on the cookie recipes yummy !!!!!!
Some of my students have mistakenly used Margarine instead of BUTTER, and those tasted like a very plain Sugar cookie. The amount of sugar used to would make it a sugar cookie.
@@brendamacon2215 i use real butter in all of my recipes, because I believe that it tastes so much better, even in my meat ,my crockpot recipes, way much better, I even put 1/2 of a stick goes into my chicken broth and dumplings,,,,,,,,,yummy
The measurements are different from the original. I make these and they melt in your mouth. I noticed you lost some of your finger pattern in your cookies. I think it’s because it’s not the original measurements. But if yours are good, that’s great.
My recipe was given to me by my Great Auntie Velma, and the measurements are slightly different. She worked in CPS lunchroom, and later, she worked for St. Elizabeth.
Wow...my nephew a decide to stay with me so i thought lets make some cookies....im from chicago...i do still remember thouse cookys .. corkery School in the little village they tast great thank you
The powdered sugar is just used to keep your fingers from sticking as you press. It is way better to have powdered sugar on top than flour or water to avoid any sticking.

Thank you! I was wondering why she used pam. I have yet to find any single cookie recipe that called for greasing the cookie sheet(s)! I tried that one too many times and discovered that the finished cookies slid on the sheet! Also result was a little too greasy. A word to the wise.

What temperature did you bake them?
The CPS cookies I had (1973-1976) did not have sugar sprinkled on top.

LOL> they were 5 cents when I was in school.
I remember the black one
And the one Whit white powder
Amers klain school now will never be the same
Nice presentation Jackie. Thanks for eggless recipe.
Eggless; huh? So that explains using a whole lot of butter; 4 sticks instead of the usual 2 sticks. I see. I'll try it.
@@jamaicanwash6667 The recipe I have from my Aunt calls for 4 cups flour, 4 sticks butter, 1 Tbsp. Vanilla , 1 cup flour.

I have learned that some people think Margarine is the same as BUTTER. NOOOOO. Did you use real BUTTER?
Unsalted butter has no place in my kitchen! Lolol!! Good recipe tho

They were delicious! I am in California so I never went to any Chicago schools.
I can't wait to make these. I remember having them in school with a cold carton of chocolate milk.
Right... 😋
Use to eat these at Von Humboldt Elementary.
What? I went Von Humboldt for 5th & 6th grade. In 82 "or 83"
