>Doesn't play Trapped Under Ice
DUDE, that is a great fucking point!!!! Wish I had thought of it. LOL
Thanks
:)
That doesn't even make sense.
Maybe the people who work down there wouldn't have been impressed by that one, so they left it out. "Oh, so you're trapped under ice ONCE... We LIVE under ice! Big deal, Metallica!"

Master of Penguins
m-a OMG awesome
If they played trapped under ice my respect would skyrocket
Exactly what I was thinking! And here they were, with the most PERFECT opportunity to play that song, and yet come up short... oh well.
Normally, I'd say that would be the corniest joke of all time. BUT because Metallica, so far, has only visited Anartica once, this would have been the perfect time to play that song.
From what I know, they 100% planned on playing it, but some way somehow, in the midst of everything that was happening, they literally just straight up forgot all about it.
I think there were other songs too that were planned but not played. I'm pretty sure it was due to not having enough play time.
@@TravisGreen_Music Or their extremities not being up to it. 😂
@@TravisGreen_Music The way I see it they had plenty of time. The sun wasn't going back down for months 🤣
Props to Kirk, he did relatively well during solos, keeping in mind that their hands were probably freezing
So true... I thought the same!!!
I read I think on Reddit a guy who was at the concert said it was about 40 degrees Ferenheit during the show. Just a fun fact I suppose.
There are people in there with t shirts on, so obviously they had heaters
J+ Definitely, its Metallica....the band with 2 and 3 story tour buses who play anywhere in the world there's electricity, they DEFINITELY HAD PROPANE HEATERS. I'd bet my balls it wasn't below 60+ in there. Poor Kold Kurt's just used to living in L.A. & Hawaii.
On 2nd thought everyone still has their shirts and hats on by the end of the show so maybe it was colder than everyone thinks in there.
Imagine situation when u casually walk through antarctica and u see fcking Metallica playing in the middle of nowhere
n 3 r o yeah just a casual stroll through Antarctica
Freezing your balls off at the same time
:v
Yup. Minding your own business. Trying to get some fresh air and gather your thoughts. And there’s Metallica ruining the serene environment 😁
imagine surviving a plane crash in antarctica, walking for days and then just seeing fucking metallica playing there
The first time in history the entire population of a continent attends one concert.
howard weitzell tho population is 1000-5000 that has to be about 500 people their so it’s a good chunk
howard weitzell I wasn’t saying it was everyone I was just saying their was a good chunk of them their
There
@@tp0ember456 Come on, that's 150 people... TOPS.
Wrong! Dumbass! Adam and Eve attended a concert back in Dickity Doo!!!
It’s pretty tight when you can play a concert and everyone on the continent shows up.👍
Talk about being the only gig in town….
I seriously cannot imagine how fucking cool it would have been to be there. Not just being in Antarctica, but being WITH the band as they played like they were some local party band. What a scene.
it was pretty cool...
It'd be like their live performance at the metro in 1983
Metallica on rare special occasion does small venue shows. They love playing big but even they enjoy a small venue show once in awhile.
Metallica plays small concert in Antarctica for basically no profit, just so they could say that they've played on every continent. The only band to reach this level of awesomeness.
you really think they do gigs for the money at this point? They're filthy rich, dude
I think they probably made up for it with the sales from the dvd of this concert/
@@adithyastren6218 Who's buying this DVD?! The real money here is that it's a sponsored event by Coca-Cola
ACDC went to antarctica before south america
Didn't you see all the Coca Cola branding on the video? They got paid.
Why the fuck they did't play Trapped under ice hahaha
cuz the song is one of their worst from the 80's period
Unknowingold u r rong
Not one of their worst, just not their most well known. The song is actually pretty good, and sort of anthemic in some parts.
bullshit. Trapped Under Ice is great.
Unknowingold You haven't a fucking clue pal.
I love how Metallica have these random artistic visions every now and then and go right ahead and do them coz they’re the biggest band in the world and they can.
Yeah, this, s and m, making an album with Lou reed, make the drums sound like shit on st anger for no reason
@@beauxhodges S and M is not bad, you are just repeating other people's opinion, St anger has good songs apart from the drum, the only bad álbum was Lou.

1% should be.. they couldn't use Amps so everyone is wearing headphones. Amplify would fuck up the ice and wildlife
nuh, they were not trapped under ice anyways. just play it in your room with headphones and just blast your ears out 😂
Actually 10% was:
"Coolest show ever, dude!" (read with dumb voice) LOL
This is both
fun fact, Metallica put headphones on everyone to keep the noise pollution down. So no amplification was used so as not to harm the local wildlife and precious surrounding area. Pretty cool, right!
Is that right? That’s sick, really cool to see such passion from a group that’s been doing it as long as them.
@@redm6n I would hazard it was a legal requirement.
Lol you can't make an electric guitar produce a distorted sound without amplifiers, they gave them headphones so they weren't deafened by being so close to the speakers

James is one of the most cool singers/frontmen of all time IMO. Lars makes me laugh with his mistakes and crazy overkill snare fills lol, but he's still cool. I wish I could sit-in on the drums for a song or two. This gig is super awesome. Long live the great Metallica.
This is the era when Lars was REALLY bad. Lately, he’s been playing a lot better.
Playing drums for Metallica has to be one of the most fun gigs in the world.
I guess this officially makes Metallica the coolest metal band ever.

this crowd is awesome. you just know some scientists took their snowmobiles or whatever from one of the other bases just to be able to catch this show. a literal once in a lifetime experience.
James is having real fun and his voice sounds crispy and strong. The whole band enjoyed the show. You can feel the enthusiasm 😎 Great performance. What an idea actually to perform there 🤔 Ahhh that energy makes me watch song after song as always.
They don't get enough credit. They're seen as a "cookie cutter" metal band in America nowadays (after all they've accomplished) 🙄 But this is badass to the extreme! Playing for people that would NEVER see a live band, let alone a headliner.

This is oddly enough of their best sounding gigs
because its all piped through the headphones and direct record lines for the audience. there are no speakers. therefore its sorta like a studio session with a live audience. very cool!
It was also their first interaction/ live use of a Fractal System for this gig. Guessing they had most of the mix/ tone balance down prior to arriving. This was the initial seed to the main rig of James and Kirk moving to a digital platform.

While us old school fans wish you were right in your understanding of that statement, I would be willing to bet that they are talking about Burton Snowboarding, who also make a line of cold weather gear (for snowboarders, primarily). However, I'm sure that Cliff was there in spirit. In a side note, I gotta say that Robert has won me over. Still not Cliff, but he is really good and fits the modern band in a way that I don't think that either Cliff or Jason did.
Burton could've been there, but you he got hugged by that bus.

Props guys. You played Blackened, which I'm guessing has your toughest riffs, and Creeping Death which is supposed to have the toughest solo while your hands had to have been freezing. Since its the southern Hemisphere, and the concert was in December, that's what passes for "summer" down there. Google gave me the location and date, so a second google gave the high and the low. Guessing the temp was around 32 degrees at showtime.
Also props to the crowd. That was less than 500 people, maybe less than 300 but they made enough noise for 2000+
thats the only time they played that song in concert since before the where ever i may roam tour because of that
The temp might not exactly be that low in the.. dome? I'm assuming the crowd generates some heat, all bunched up like that.. I see a few guys just straight-up wearing T-shirts in there, so maybe it's 45-50 degrees? Maybe it's not as crazy to perform there as we think lol
Pretty sure it was a sold out gig regardless….

As long as Kirks got his wah wah, hes ready for anything.

@Vortiac
Especially that guy wearing a t-shirt
I’ve played at my house here in Michigan, cold weather, it’s not even as bad as Antarctica and playing here was still hard as shit
@Greg Douglass its heated by metallica fans
Really feels like Hetfield is having one hell of a time, these guys are used to play in front of crowds of thousands of people, playing in the middle of nowhere for barely 50 people must've felt like their very first shows. As some people said it's not metallica's best performance in terms of length, sound quality and such but that energy man!!!!! Hell yeah feels good to see hetfield with this huge smile on his face! Liked, added to favourites, fapped to it twice, etc
Well, not everyone can afford tickets to fuckin Antarctica :D

He is making history. Thats because he is with this smile in his face. Metallica is just fucking awesome.
Dude, they're playing in fucking Antarctica
This is just straight up one of the coolest things ever done
A whole continent repeats the word "Master" everytime you say it. This gives me chills
I was here at the show i won a ticket through a coke zero contest and honestly it wasn't cold. Sure you think Antartica, cold as shit right? The Dome was at the Argentine Base that's built on the Pennisula along Antartica. It was probably 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the show. And probably 50 degrees in the dome.
It was weird. There were maybe a hundred scientists in the crowd who sorta knew some of the songs and would headbang off time and yell half lyrics and a bunch of other coke zero winners. Also, Metallica didn't even use amps. We listened to the show through these sucky ass headphones and sometimes you'd take them off and be able to hear songs better just from acoustic noise.
One thing that is really hard to tell in this video though is how fucking bright it was there. The Dome definitely reduced the strength of the sun but when you'd go outside it would fucking blind you for a second.
Damn,I would've done anything to be there but u were there and apparently didn't enjoy it
Sorry to hear that
They performed in the warmer areas of Antarctica
Lucky bastard.
I think it’s because the snow reflect the sunlight really strongly
I thought the guitars sounded very... thin. That makes a lot more sense now

31:34 - PENGUINS GO!
Penguins must’ve been hella confused
Naw! To quote Ghostbusters, They "Got ONE!!!!"
They all surfaced and began headbanging in unison.
They came out and replaced the entire audience with their pack. Then they started headbanging in mosh pits. If you go visit Antarctica youll still see penguins around wearing Metallica shirts.
missed a great opportunity to play trapped under ice, love your songs
A limited edition double LP of this (on white vinyl, of course!) would make a GREAT Record Store Day release...!
Where is Trapped Under Ice?
They melted the ice and arose from being on fire that day.
you are damn right! i dislike theres many hidden metallica gems that are never played
Well it's....
Trapped
Under
Ice
Idk
Exactly 😂
James Hetfield:- One last time for the penguins - Searchiiiiing, Seek and Destroy!
Penguins:- Aww c'mon, don't make us an endangered species!
