- DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - Passengers in Dubai will be able to select a drone taxi for their commute by as early as July.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority announced at the World Government Summit this week that the city would start operating drone taxis along predetermined routes from this summer, Techcrunch reported.
The city will use Ehang 184 autonomous quad-opener electric drones to shuttle people around via air, according to the New York Times.
The drone can carry one passenger with a maximum weight of 220 pounds, for a distance of 31 miles on one charge, at a top speed of 100 mph.
Dubai authorities said the drones would operate at 62 mph, the New York Times reported.
Passengers would board the drone, buckle into a harness and select a destination on a touch screen before taking off, according to a promotional video made by the Roads and Transport Authority.
The Ehang drones will be monitored through a central command center on the ground.

That was really good - I liked that video. Thank you for posting :-)
I think there will be no humans one day Robots will call drones
With a 20 minute flight time and 4 hour recharge, this thing can only make 4-5 single passenger revenue flights per day. They will have to charge at least $200-300 per trip to cover cost of vehicle, ground control system, maintenance, etc. Maybe that will work in Dubai as a status symbol, but this will not replace ground taxis anytime soon.
What are the safety features incase of drone failure?
this shit looks like the future like if u agree
Xtx Icogxog 傻逼,乡下人
Yup Arabians are smart
what he meant to say is Arabians are RICH, FILTHY RICH $$$
What’s the difference between the drone or a helicopter
Fantastic Idea, but still many things to think about.
1. What are the allowed routes for these taxis... In Dubai it is not a problem, there is not too much garden life... In Europe there is a lot of garden life in the summer.
2. What about privacy. If everyone can fly these drones, journalists can also use them to fly into the private life of famous and rich people.... Do we want that? No privacy at all?
3. What about criminals and police? Isn't it essential that police will have these drones to be prepared to protect citizens from being attacked by criminals using drones?
Also it is very easy to fly autonomously when there is no traffic jam in the air. But if these drones are affordable for each person, there will be traffic jam...
How are the rules to fly these drones?
I think it is essential for the success of these drones to have fair rules of using them, taking all affected parts and people.
the cabin should be inside of a gyroscope🔦👽
Good for me I am from dubai
Abod Almarzoqi so am I سلام عليك
Will you be the first passenger?
Phantasmagory only...
Hawaii is trying to figure out how to finance a 22 mile fixed light rail. That project is only half-way done and clearly obsolete even before it had a chance to be completed with the flying drone.
What happens if one or more motors fail? It's not like you can glide down like on a fixed wing aircraft and I doubt this thing is capable of autorotation like helicopters do.
The scenario at 2:50 clearly can not be allowed to happen. I can't believe they'd depict that in a promo video. The cabin door must lock the passenger inside until the props are fully stopped.
They really need to test these flying cargo over sparsely populated areas for about a year before they ever consider putting a human passenger in one. Absolute 100% reliability has to be proven first, and even then it must be equipped with a ballistic parachute. If *anything* fails, for any reason (bird strike, etc) the passenger will plummet to his death because this thing will drop like a rock. It has zero gliding or auto-rotation capability which is unlike virtually every other human carrying aircraft in the world today.
and let the fatalities begin..
i had also design a drone taxi and I am working on it
Mo Vlogs will never use this thing!
No parachute? Commmoonn...
the jetsons are coming true. all those movies you saw with flying cars in the cities are finally happening
why not use Solar power duh
😱
Too many bugattis in the street
I would love it if this would happen but like every other promise about flying transport, nothing will happen. At least Dubai doesn't have a bunch of airlines influencing the gov't to make this impossible like in America and Europe.
This would be awesome for our four legged friends if human transport could leave the ground and we stop running over animals.
looks like boogie2988, along with most Americans won't be riding in this thing ever
Seabubble is a glorified boat.
I see a lot of problems with these. What if the person makes a mess in the vehicle. There's no one there to stop them in the first place. And no one to clean the mess. The next person who gets in will most likely have to wait for another
Drunks. A lot of taxi drivers main passengers especially late at night are drunks. And drunk people do a lot of things. One of these things may be. Get air sick. Are there ready vomit bags? They can't just vomit out the window. And a lot of normal people get air sick.
Someone could easily run up to the quadcopter and easily get injured I see a very big problem with gigantic quadcopter landing in the middle of your yard. Family pet gets butchered. Child wanders too close.
Taxis for more then one person. A lot of people take taxis with other people. Some of these vehicles have room for one person. And one person only will they have to order two separate vehicles?
How will automation control direction and other drones? They surely can't always know where other drones are.
Where will these drones land in larger possibly city like areas. Car spots replaced? Landing on sidewalks. A lot of these things aren't thought out.
When will the people of this region rise up against aristocracy?
kevjtnbtmglr what *atrocity do you mean ?
