- These days, drones are everywhere you look. But EHang caught everyone's eye with a 'Drone Copter' called the '184,' that was teased on the CES 2016 showroom floor. Currently the company has a working prototype and it is working on working with various governments to eventually get the 184 in the skies near you.

It will need a fast deploying parachute before I get one. Or an outer self-deploying air-bubble in case all rotors malfunction (just like how Curiosity landed on Mars)

The biggest challenge of such a project is the development of a low noise propeller, otherwise it will not be authorized for mass marketing in society.
Keeps it in position by storms? Can we in emergency itself steer? What if it rolls over? Does it have a parachute?

Fenestron-style ducted fans will be required (proximity of blades to passenger and others), but it would still be kinda cool.

I'm guessing that a higher-volume output ducted fan on a per-unit basis will not exceed a lawsuit settlement amount or the losing end of a lawsuit taken to trial.

If an comercial airplane fall dawn it kills 300 people and if a drone fall down it kills only one person, why the most governments are prohibiting it? the automobiles have absolutelly more fatal acidents than planes. I believe Ehang 184 could have a fast parachute anyway.
+sweet lollipop They do not really prohibit it. It's more like you need a license to fly... but. ho no ... there are only licence for plane and copter and no license for drone with autopilot.
+Eric Jacques (Leucome) Your statement has many valid points. Nevertheless, please consider that technology is advancing at an ever increasing rate, much faster than regulators have a chance to in act the appropriate regulations to this type of conveyance.

and when the battery runs low and your over water hmm ok.. 20 min max run time aka 10 min flight so this scares me i mean what it will go 10 miles..

Good concept prototype. With prop cowlings (ducted) and a range extender, maybe a 2 cylinder two-stroke diesel or a similarly light and efficient engine, it might get the range it needs. The idea of synch-flight, using Microsoft software could be a problem. The data link would have to be based on 5G. With frequency hopping technology already showing up in radio transmitters like the Radiolink AT9S. If you have the right level of safety, redundancy and augmentation software, it could fly legally in cities, or towns. As a pilot, I can't see it getting approval without a triple safety standard. Props are fickle and batteries have been known to catch fire. Fancy sitting on a potential fire hazard.?

There is no footage of this thing actually flying, much less while carrying a person in it. I call BS here.... it reminds me of the Raelian Human-Cloning stunt. It will be a decade before something like this becomes viable.
Normally I would agree with you but I see other similarly designed craft of the homemade variety being demonstrated on RUclips and they seem to fly just fine, so I tend to believe this craft can do what they say. My only issue with this design is what happens if a motor or a prop fails (or TWO or them)? There is no auto-rotation ability the way helicopters have, nor can you glide the way a fixed wing craft does. Incorporating a parachute means more weight. These craft are risky!

Be nice to people Daniel Howe. By the way JJ Bricks, I have seen the video of the e hang drone carrying people. Keep on looking. JJ Brick please read my above-mentioned comment. I hope you will agree. Generally I believe the drones have a great potential for future transportation. Will definitely buy one.
I have a design that I came up with several years ago it requires no propellers it doesn't even require air it does not require any kind of fuel except electricity that use no means now known to fly I discovered it one day under inspiration but I'm not giving it up to no one this one I'm going to have to be paid for and as soon as I can get where I could work in my shop again I'm going to build a full-scale.

I just want something that will take me to altitude, minimum 3k, five or more would be nice, then lands after I exit. And if the bonus package includes a packer I'm game.

I disabled in a wheelchair it would be nice to transport me to hospital in Emergency waiting for the correct transport to get me to the operation room 35 miles away and a clear simple way to remove this device to parking lot after landing on heli-pad

What a wasted if it's just can fly around 30 minutes then you need recharge it...how far that thing can go?
How far would you want to go? It would be most practical in-city.

To buy a drone about 7year ago they cost a fortune! you can get a small mini one drone for about £5 if that nowadays. Its got to be they way forward? I think I could land this in my back yard. After they lost close friends in helicopters etc safety is paramount so I guess these will be safe? Cant they operate with only 3 blades or something? if one fails?
The problem is stability. If one Motor fails, the hole thing would lose balance Imidetly. At a concequence, the system has to reakt very fast to such type of falure.

The problem is weight. This thing only works when it ist light. A safty papachute would add a lot of it and would make an event of failure more likely in the first place. When this think only operates at altitudes of 20 meters (60 feet) a prarachute would probably not work without a seat that throws you out. And the speed you would pic up.out of a 20 meter fall would be less then a hit on the highway
If you have noticed, drones crash a lot! Do you really want to trust a toy maker with your life?

Yeah, I wouldn't put any more receivers than I could help if I was designing one. Just a cell and gps seperated totally from the vehicle's computer. You don't want anyone to be able to get into the vehicle's systems.

These are the items that you own and proud of that you often bragged to your friends how cool of a device/merchandise that you had purchased or so fortunate to grab for a good deal. Don't believe me, then look for yourself. We only care to look when an item fails (and do an "ah ha! it's made in China"), but look the other way on all the other products that are currently working reliably.
Ponder on this....... They make millions of products and millions each. Let's be conservative and calculate 1,000,000 X 1,000,000, that would equals 1 trillion. Assume that they "only" have a passing yield of 99.9% and 0.1% failure. A percentage of 0.1% of a trillion is 1 billion!!!! Do you hear of billions of products failing year after year after year after year after year???????? Time to wake the hey up Neo! Which pill do you want, the blue or the red one?

What jumps out to me the most is perhaps your argument that - "The cancer rate has exploded exponentially"... I assume I must first explain how science works, especially medical science. Humans (and all lifeforms) have been dying because of diseases throughout the entirety of human (and all lifeforms) existence.
Throughout documented history, due to the unknown world of microorganisms, diseases were not understood. Nor were they named. When someone all of a sudden died for seemingly no reason whatsoever, it was thought of as an act of "god/gods." Unless you saw someone get eaten by a lion, bitten by a snake, killed by a sword, or shot with an arrow. The causes of death were so unknown, that anyone who had a story that sounded plausible enough, and who seemed sincere when orating the story/stories to others, it would satisfy the naive tribal-minded people, and ease there fears and sorrows. Which obviously helped them focus on tasks that needed to be done to preserve the survival of the tribe/town/empire.
The point to this brief explanation was to show you an example of the evolution of human intelligence and to explain that cancer is a relatively recent discovery in the medical field. So before it was called "cancer", it was just called death! Or sin. Regardless, it wasn't until the invention of proper tools (microscopy) capable of seeing the world of microbiology that humanity has been able to better understand diseases. The better our technology gets, the more problems we discover, hence, the more problems we will solve.
China is not responsible for cancer, nor is any one specific factor for that matter. Of course some of the manufacturing facilities may attribute to it, they're not the sole proprietary cause! It's merely an unforeseen, unintentional, bi-product of the lifestyles so many of us have grown accustomed to) Cancer is essentially, just a cellular copying error. Of course it's much more difficult to grasp and understand it. A cancer cell is/was a living cell that defies the natural process of dying. Cancer cells are immortal because they produce telomerase. In the human body, only two kinds of body cells are immortal/able to divide without limit. Cancer cells are one. The other kind of immortal cell is the embryonic stem cell. Many forms of cancer are rooted in genetics, making some people more prone to having it one day. Granted it's not easily understood, and I am no expert in any of the scientific fields of research related to studying cancer and it's many links to genomics. Though this is why we have experts. You don't go to your barber to a medical check-up. You don't go to the bank drive-thru to have them change your oil. And you also don't go to an optometrist to have surgery on your heart.
One more thing, many of the manufacturing facilities in China are part of multinational corporations. Many of which, began in the US. Not to mention, many of the products made there were once made here. Until our government deregulated the corporations and allowed them to outsource the jobs to countries where almost no business regulations exist, and slave labor is acceptable..

Flawed design. Propellers are positioned at knee level and not covered by nacelles thus exposing passengers to injuries. Cover the blades and reposition them at height above head level. Can we trust the e hang pilots. Even US military used qualified pilot to operate their MALE UAVs. What about during an emergency? I suggest the authorities concerned to make it mandatory for all passenger carrying drones to be equipped with ballast recovery parachute system that are already in the market. Hope the Dubai authority does not rush in introducing these drones into service.
