Great video! Bobbie summed up the pro's and con's perfectly. I decided to go ahead and take the plunge since they were offering a $100 discount. I want my wife to enjoy the the awesome jeep experience of going topless without having to remove and store the freedom panels. And we park it in our garage, so I'm not too worried about the rare Texas monsoon. Thanks again for the honest review!

I live in SW-FL and liked my Sunrider until the summertime downpours came. I had to remove the Sunrider because it let WAY too much water in. I will put it back on in January when the weather is perfect for open-top driving.
Oh wow thats crazy. Yeah some folks say they have never had problems. for the most part this one is working out ok but when it rains hard it does get wet
The joys of Jeep ownership! That wasn’t too much leakage for as much rain as you received. Guess I am luck so far that my hardtop is not leaking. My softtop does leak a bit around the same areas as yours. Nice update!!
Oh I know right, Gotta love it! Nice, Havent had a Jeep that didnt leak eventually.
That answered my question that little dampness with a pouring rain storm is nothing. I’ll be getting one for next summer
Bobbie has been totally cool with it for many years.. Plus it still looks new. Keep us posted 🙂
I’m not familiar with the Bestop Sunrider, as my Jeep is a dedicated soft top. But, I did find a way to stop my factory top from leaking using some foam from Lowe’s. I won’t hijack your video with my own link, but I’ve posted a video on it a while back on my channel. It works very well, though you do have to replace it from time to time. At $2.42 for enough foam for 20-30 applications, though, it was worth it!

Agree its a Jeep... I was sold on the Bestop for my JL like boom where do I order! But seeing this and $800 bucks? Seems very expensive, $500-$600 yes, but no way at $800. Luckily the JL tops are light and very easy to take off! Not hating! I definitely see why people love this, I was just shocked at the price....
ha right I know what you mean. hey on the plus side I here they are running a special if you pre order the one for the JL ;) not sure how much of a discount but it might be worth check in to. Bobbie is truly happy with hers but dang that price tag was a huge OUCH!
If I can't find my sky one touch Jeep, then I definitely want this!
I was telling a salesman what I was looking for, but he kept trying to sell me what I specifically told him I didn't want for several reasons: 1. It's just me. I don't have anyone to help me take the back piece when I want it off. 2. I live in an apt, so no garage to store it. 3. I don't want to deal with the hassle of the freedom panels, especially here in KS with weather changes on a dime. I was adamant that the sky one touch is for me, but he wasn't really hearing it. I LOVE Jeeps, I research, I know what I want lol.
Also, I've heard the leaking issue is way better on the JLs.
Right on Amber, Don't settle. Visit the Jeep website and put in the specs you are looking for. Hopefully you will be able to find a sky one close by. If not most dealers will even bring it in for you :) Bobbie has been running this on her JK for several years now. It has held up REALLY Well. I have to say I am impressed.
Hi guys, I have a 2014 JK and I have the same Sunrider Soft top, I live in California desert, hardly rains out here, I ran it through a car wash once and it did leak by the driver side door. I put some of that self stick insulation foam by the upper door, and it seems to work. May be it will at least slow the leak down some. You have some serious rain fall out there , Good luck!
Nice, thanks for the info. We might be trying some things in the near future. Bobbie is in no hurry ha. I might be trying a few things on the winter edition. It dosnt leak bad or even very often but when it does its on the passenger side.

Right, Yeah im not a fan of rain. I like sunshine and rainbows lol.
I had one installed about a month ago and it was fabulous. However I had it installed by a shop that’s probably install more than 100 of them and they know exactly what to do to adjust to fit and finish and I think that’s the key to leaks and noise because I don’t have either.

I'm with you. Going to stay with the hard top. It would be great if jeep made a solid hard top for the 4 dr. Don't really take off my freedom tops only time I did was to put the switch pod up. Great info as always. Keep on jeeping.

I guess it's just one of those things that you have to be okay with. And as long as you can tolerate a little bit of leaking and after all it is a Jeep and as you said it's just a Jeep thing that I guess it's okay. Thanks for sharing my friends.

Really good honest review. I can honestly say my freedom top has not leaked one bit and we had a LOT of rain for over a year now since I had the Jeep. But the freedom tops are a pain to take off and store and as your wife said, they get really HOT. Learned that the hard way. LOL.
So, guess its either deal with taking them off/on and putting in that bag (bag is the hardest part), or accept water in the jeep. Course if caught in an unexpected rain, might have water anyway, by the time it takes to put them back on.
Shame they couldn't make the top leak proof.
Thanks Daniel! One thing is for certain its not leaking like it did when we installed it but none the less it does still leak with major rain falls. So glad yours is not leaking could very well be we got a dud you know. We probably should have reached out to bestop a long time ago you know. But hey the wife still loves is :)
@@BubbasgarageTv Cool. Well I meant my Freedom Panels don't leak. I want the top you got as I love to take the panels off but as yous say, its a pain in the butt and can burn your hands. (I don't have it yet)
Oh Gotcha. The sunrider for softop is sure a nice and quick easy feature to have.
Fingers crossed i’ve never had a leak with my 2014 JKU hard top and even now with the soft top been going for 5 years, i’ve been in crazy storms, floods so sounds like i’ve been lucky 🍀
SWEET! Nothing wrong with that. We have owned a lot of Jeeps and thus far I dont think we have had one that hasnt leaked at some point. Don't take me wrong when I say leak I dont mean a major leak at all.
Not too bad of a leak, might be worth it for the easy of opening the top up. We've had rain non-stop for like a week here and I wouldn't want to know how much water would have gotten though lol.
Right, Bobbie loves the convenience that's for sure. Its not for me but hey shes happy with it and that's what matters most.
Can you say how hard it is to open the top from the inside WITH your pink sunshade on? I see when you demonstrated it you had it off. I have the same Jeep as your husband and have a full purple sunshade on mine so I'm thinking it's not easy to open it with the shade on. Anyone else out there try it out?
It was a paid. unlatching the levers wasn't to bad but swinging it open was the hard part. Had to reach around the shade to push it up. We ended up removing the sun shade not long after we removed it.
@@BubbasgarageTv Thank you for your honest opinion on this. I contacted my sunshade people and they said I could just twist the latches through the shade. I asked him if he's tried that himself and of course he said no. haha. Yea, I couldn't at all! Might just do without the shade.
@@BubbasgarageTv Also, they have a retractable sunshade by Bestop for $175 and that would work for you since you need the Sunrider top to use it. It won't go under my Freedom Panels but I can't bite the bullet yet on the Sunrider top. One day!
Leaks a little but it looks good. Nice to be able to put the top up or down in a hurry though. I'm sure you guys will find a fix.

Awesome update. I noticed you took the JKini off. How cumbersome was it having it on and trying to flip open the soft top? I like having the screen feature to help with direct sun.
Thanks Karl, We did actually remove the JKini. They way it mounted was just not working out well with the Sunrider. With that said we did find that some other brands would work but never pulled the trigger on anything. If you hear of one that works please let us know. Summer is coming. We sure might get one on order :)

I recently installed one and noticed it drips where you pointed out but only when I’m exiting the vehicle not while in use. So a couple drops of rain tend to hit the rubber floor mat before closing the door. How’s your sunrider holding up? Does she switch to the freedom panels during winter?
Same thing here. Nope been running this year round. I have to admit it does still look brand new.
i'm gonna spoil it... the sunrider took a minor leak. 😸😆 i wonder if it takes a major leak when driving through heavy rain since this test was immobile.

I think small puddles like this are not a deal breaker, the price might be tho! I am in Canada and we have winter with snowstorms, I wonder how the roof would perform, I know you can't answer that but I am going to look into this!
Totally agree with you on that. The Price is kinda steep. Great question on the roof It does have one support bar that runs trough the middle but that's about it. Sounds like we need to plan a trip through Canada :) Im so game.
Can you take the back portion of the hard top off with that freedom panel replacement soft top installed or does the main hard shell have to be left on at all times?
You sure can. We haven't done it but you should be able to take the top off just fine. The sunrider portion might still need to stay on. That part would be a lot to take off. Hope that helps.

It appeared to me that the leak was coming from under the door. I saw a video of a guy who put camper shell tape over the plastic tabs of the gasket that's located on the A pillar about halfway down from the top. Hard to explain but that solved the leak. I'm having the same leak so I will be trying this method.

What’s up Jeep fam. I just recently picked up the hardware and super used soft top for $100. I have a hard top but removed it to put the soft top on. The soft top is so loud like a airplane but I think bc the gap right there when you close it. Going to try and fit some weather strip in there hope it works. Have you had to patch holes and cracks yet ? Need some zipper lube and some sort of patch goop. Anybody has recommendations let me know...
Nice, what a sweet deal. We have had this install for many years now and it's actually still in wonderful shape. It is a tad louder than I would like but Bobbie loves it. Haven't gotten in to having to do any fabric repairs just yet :)

My Freedom panels leak that much easily on my 2016.
