    I think the best part was when you pulled the front cover off and it had a bunch of salt sludge in there. It’s just nice to see that on someone else’s engine for a change 😂 nice little update video, thanks for sharing

      Haha... What a nasty mess ! I actually used your "salt based loctite" line in my video a few times, but when I watched it in editing, I felt like I was ripping off your thing, haha. Other than that, and the engine blowing up ( LOL ) it wasn't too bad !

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  8 месяцев назад

      Really, eh.... I don't know that I've seen it on a JetSki.... it's very common on snowmobiles, haha. It's kind of curious that it only happened on the front cylinder.... I may have to look into that. It could have been a difference in timing or head cooling.

    • @AtimatikArmy
      @AtimatikArmy 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@JoelArseneaultRUclips How could it be a difference in timing? Zeeltronics? Is your water cooling evenly through the head/cylinder?

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@AtimatikArmy My guess would be the slop in the crankshaft and perhaps more on the MAG rod / bearings than the rest.
      I could / could have tested the slop in the con rod and then calculated how many degrees of advance it created. If you recall, I had the pistons hitting the domes despite having a decent squish (can't remember the number) and I wasn't revving it high.
      The more wear in the rod / pins / bearings, the more advanced the timing is. It all adds up to melty goodless.
      I'm not running a head gasket, so there could be some cooling flow issues. I'd like to test it with a probe on each dome, but I only just got it up and running in time to visit the JSB. The gasket, as with most, has restrictors to direct the flow, but I figured that was sort of invalid due to the new shape of the domes and from what I can tell, most billet head manufacturers just run totally unrestricted, other than perhaps different size, separate outlet fittings.

    That's nice salt you got there! I think we need to invent the JSB salt injection kit for freshwater riders. I always wonder where the crap gets in the front cover. Starter hole you think?

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  8 месяцев назад

      HAHA ! Salt water injection... for those who think their ski is too dependable.
      Man... I have no idea where the water comes in those front covers ! It seems to be almost every ski. My starter did leak a little, as water got into the starter bearing.... However, if that is where it always got in, then starter motors would only last a week.
      I've had people tell me that they never have issues with leaking.. maybe they live in bizarro world ?

    Was that all just salt water residue in your stator cover? Or was that also some leaking seals? Was there much damage to the dome on cylinder one? Or did I just miss that?
    Based on your riding videos, that held up extremely well! Very excited to see the crank building stuff! Would you be able to go over the SBT shady things? Now I'm worried about mine a little. I haven't heard much good about their rebuild stuff.

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  8 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not 100% sure what that stuff is... I think it's salt water residue that has not yet completely dried out ... it's really odd stuff.
      Almost no damage to the dome ... a bit of melted aluminum got smushed on it. it just needs a quick polishing.
      I haven't really talked about the SBT crank because I didn't want to bash them... but I guess I should talk about it in a bit more detail. I'll try to make a quick video about it some time with measurements and details about what was shady. I don't think this is the norm, but I do think that they have a high tolerance for just mashing things together... and that's why they weld all their cranks.

      Lol... I'm never going to live this down, am I !? I think my problem is I have gotten away with running low octane a lot. I generally do a lot of testing and figure out how low of octane I can get away with. I have run 87 in ported and polished engines running 165 - 170 psi without any issues... This time however, I went directly from 94 octane to 87 in the next tank... and also from 3500 ft elevation to sea level.

      @@JoelArseneaultRUclips that’s interesting. I’ve always run ethanol free 91 in anything 2stroke. There’s a lot of different motor sports around where I live, so I can get 91 or 110 at the pump.

      @@boatbikemike8571 HAHA... I used to work on drag racing snowmobiles and my father and I ran a small mud drag quad ... We would often use mothballs to reduce octane as a last minute tuning trick... Methanol and mothballs on a warm day 🤣 ... This was in the mid 90s, and we didn't have EFI or programmable ignition...
      A LOT of this was experimental and I can't say for sure if it made any difference at all, but our engine was very dependable, and we running a 250cc, we were usually able to beat everything in every quad class. Light weight, Realtor tires and an automatic transmission played a huge role in those wins, haha.
      EDIT: I should say... This trick 100% works if you are sure you are running rich and don't have time to change jets. When you are already pretty close to correct timing and jetting... that is when I can't say for sure if it helps. 10% methanol is worth about 1 jet size.

      I once got into a police chase with BJ sitting on the floor of my car as the seat was removed, and he had a motorcycle engine between his legs 🤣We escaped and I had completely forgotten about it for over a decade.

    When you mentioned 87 and 93 octane I was wondering about e85… I have heard it can do bad things to carbs but wonder your thoughts… I usually just run 91 octane in my skis because it’s more available in my area… glad to see winter jetski stuff.. I’ve been working on not jetski stuff so not much goin on here

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  8 месяцев назад

      E85 is really hard to get where I am.... like.... really hard. There used to be one gas station that sold it in our city, but I think that was in 2017.
      E85 is mostly alcohol, and it can destroy carbs and any other parts that are not designed for it. Also, with a two cycle engine, you tend to have a lot of raw fuel remaining in the engine (at times) ... this could cause rapid engine deterioration / corrosion.
      In a 4 cycle engine, when running e85, from what I understand, the oil tends to get milky and requires frequent changing. This may only be the case with high output engines. With a two cycle you don't' have the ability to flush the engine with an oil change.
      I'm glad to see my jetski content is appreciated, haha. I have also been working on a lot of non jetski content. It was almost nice enough out to day to work on the Jammer... but my truck key broke off my key chain and went missing, so I lost a few hours of productivity today ... and didn't find my key.
