I would really like to see another experiment: Fill the diff with water again, and let it spin slowly, perhaps driven by an electric motor with reduction gear. Leave it running outside, in really cold weather. I would be curious what happens if it is cold enough to freeze, but forced to move at the same time.
That would be cool. I think the moving parts would turn to slush and snow and get pushed out the top of if motor propelling it was strong enough. Moving water is how clear ice is made... I still think this would end up jamming up though. Ice would force in from the sides on the smooth parts of the diff and slowly bind it up. I think with enough power it could turn to "snow" but I would like to see it. I don't think the average electric motor would be able to stop it. Maybe with another diff to increase torque...
@@volvo09 It would probably jam, if the motor/ the torque wasn't too strong. But perhaps something interesting could happen, if you were to combine extreme cold with extreme force. Perhaps really some kind of snow or semi liquid would be the result.

Try freezing the tires in place and see if you can break free? Or if you can fill tires with water and freeze them and ride on them? Or an ice drive shaft?
I've had low HP/Torq cars struggle to break tires free after sinking into the sod and freezing. Not surprised whatsoever it couldn't break the diff free. I'd be surprised if a common low range (NP241/2.72:1) would break it free.

Use a rear axle like an ice cream maker. Using salt and ice see if you can use the dif to keep stirring the ice cream till it thickens up. Im sure outside temps could make easy work out, with the differential ice cream maker.
Back in the day, I kept my 85 Pony outside in the cold Canadian winter. One day when going to class, I fired it up (it always did) on a super cold morning and I put it in reverse (handbrake was done, I left it in 1) to move out of my spot and the car briefly moved forward. The gear oil was so thick that it kept the gear in place for a couple seconds. Never saw that again since. Also the oil was shit and the car was heavily abused (towing a boat - previous owner, a mechanic at that) so that may have had an impact?
I was reminded the hard way by forgetting that setting the parking brake, (drums), automatic transmission. Even tried 4wheel drive low range, may as well have been sitting on blocks. Lucky the parking lot had a little exposed asphalt, to be dragged across, breaking them free.
I could see this blowing up some 4wd "shift on the fly" transfer cases in the winter... Get water in your diff that goes un noticed and freezes, shift into 4wd while rolling down the road and BOOM 💥
I wonder if the diff would still freeze if it was in drive... As in the wheels turning and the dif full of water and then left to freeze... Would there be enough friction generating heat to keep the water as slush?
This is when I get angry at my crappy car that I would basically consider junk if I saw the diff frozen and busted the cover open....I would then hold it wide open put it in first gear and slide my foot off the side of the clutch pedal... something is going to happen...it will be of those cars you see in the junkyard and go "wtf even happened??!! How in the...poor car" I like to send my cars to heaven with a bang...they give their all, hold on as long as they can and go out like a warrior in battle...I will tell tales of them so they become legends, and legends never die.

I want to know what parts of a car you can make out of ice ? windshield ? What engine parts ? I know they made a car out of ice but that was all body.

Ice is very strong. Been know to hurt or kill people in some situations.
Takes a Lada power to do that. So we will see LMAO!
Weld the front half of 2 cars together with a motor in each.then you can drive forward no matter which way you are facing
Try to freeze spider gears and leave rest of it freely spinning. Basically welded diff that you can unfreeze and use as an open diff again.
Now you can put a window on that dif
You should make a diy electric Lada car
Try it by connecting the engine directly to the drive shaft ! No clutch😁
Using a differential full of frozen water to make a Snoopy snowcone.
Are the motors designed for the cold conditions
I'd say that the clutch is toast now too.
In N.S.W Australia it never gets that cold
Hell of a quick and easy way to clean the diff on fluid changes….
Ice locker for the win
Drain the engine oil. Fill the crankcase with water. Drive the car.
Here's an idea - think of a car powerful enough, to actually make it. Something with a big torque.
Fantastic content.

Be interested to see what would happen if when frozen you removed the cover so the ice would have somewhere to go if it broke apart.

Should try this with the homemade V12 car and see if there's enough power in that to free it up or if it would just rip the differential apart
