    1:55 well... The more reason for you to get the watch :
    1. Water resistant was listed in 3 bar, but actually it could handle more water like even showers with it (like I've done) or showering your pet/kids. I tested it in pressure test machine for 5 atm and it passed beautifully. I think they want the owner to be careful so that they can't complaint about it the watch got water ingress caused by the owner goes swimming or bathing which could affect the warranty.
    2. The accuracy of it is excellent. It has a freesprung balance which resistant to shock with silicon hairspring in which has to be done because for this movement that is being put in any sector version (including the tuxedo dial), they got magnet plate that has pivot holes drilled to it so it would act as a friction spring and the second hand moves smoothly instead of janky as this subsecond hand isn't directly driven by the escape wheel but instead by additional wheels, and due to the two pivot holes on the magnet plate, it could be rearranged if they decided to make the watch smaller and still could achieve the balance design on the dial.
    3. Anti-magnetic. This is one of the most affordable anti magnetic mechanical watch that could be worn without worries when you put it nearby a speaker, a cellphone, or pc, or any modern electronic devices due to the mechanism of the movement.
    But yeah, it is rather a bit plain with all the finishing on the case, so I would suggest you to go to a watchmaker/swatch group service center near you to polish the top bezel and trust me, the whole design would look coherent as the brushed design would pops out more together with the shiny bezel while being balanced with the matte cream section on the dial and the brushed lugs and caseband. Check out the results on my IG @uhrkenner.

    I've got this, it's one of my favourite watches. Two points against - the absurdly large box it comes in and that horrible engraving on the back. Luckily I don't have to look at either of these when I'm wearing it.

    My opinion .
    Nothing beats longines at their price range
    You can get that and buy extra the bracelet from the black one , you pay more but it’s worth it
    I was in the market for a sector dial and I was too close to get the Jlc master sector which is a phenomenal watch and better build off course compared to the longines but
    I got the longines because aesthetically is unbeatable
    1930’s dress vibes a longines Calatrava
    I love that brand

    Some good points FT. I would say that if you have doubts on a purchase, leave it at the AD. There will be pieces that you don't have reservations that may be a better fit. I find that this is one of the few watches that crosses the lines of a dress or sport design without issue. The Tuxedo is also worth consideration but the lugs are quite long.
    I'm not sure the crystal is frosted as it is a characteristic of sapphire. The 'milky' effect when viewed side on (or directly perpendicular from the dial) can vary significantly on the mechanical design of a box crystal. Looking through a thin layer of flat sapphire looks similar to glass, however looking through that same crystal from the side it will look cloudy. The box design of this crystal has a vertical drop on the edge so looking from above there will be a milky opaque colour. From the side on you can see the thicker rim of the crystal exhibits the same. Your point is totally valid though, it does spoil the view somewhat. If it was acrylic or dare I say it mineral this would be less obvious. If Longines could have bevelled the crystal edge where the milky shade could have been reduced and introduced distortion (like the lovely Oris Pointer Date ) but it would be at odds with the case design with vertical and horizontal angles. Anyway I got mine on the black leather strap (it also came with a NATO and a pin tool in a huge box) so other options are/were available. That dial is fantastic in my humble opinion and works so well with the blued hands. Accuracy on mine is well within COSC even though it is not certified.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  2 года назад

      Thanks for sharing. Yeah I know about that milky effect on speedys sapphires but I believe this is not it. I looked under macro it just looks unpolished sides. A good example is my yema boxed sapphire. no milky sides and the box is more aggressive and taller on my yema. Good choice with the black leather, and Kavar tells me Longines buyers sometimes refuse the big box as it annoys them and they wont know where to keep it! lol

    hold out for the Longines Spirit 37. I had one of these Sectors and sold it. no single big reason but combo of just 30mWR, crappy strap for the price, and it wore kinda big for a 38.5 (light dial, narrow bezel, long lugs). high hopes for the Spirit 37! (awaiting your review very soon!)

    The Lorier Safari cream is a cool sector dialed watch as well. Although it doesn't enven start to compete with the Longines.

    Exact same problem here. Saved it, adore the proportions and style and classic lines, but just... can't... quite... pull the trigger. The unpolished crystal might be the dealbreaker. Compare with a Junghans Max Bill Chrono and indeed the crystal issue looms. Ended up with an Oris Aquis titanium grey instead.

    Great watch and yes, a better design than the JLC Sector date. But not the Sector Chrono!! But these are very nice - up there in affordable dress watches with the King Seiko (but not as well finished). Longines straps are always awful. How about the Spirit 37mm? A nice everyday between the KS and SLA? I think the Spirit is a great watch and now it's smaller - spot on!

    Hi, i am so much liking this watch and literally holding back as i like 1945 heritage with thecopper finish dial . You cleared the frosting which i am not happy on this as well with the proportions of the strap lug width when you look at the watch from the top but its still an attractive. It's a very nice looking watch. But, I always felt the small seconds cutting off the 6 was not too good looking. Either they should have increased the subdial size to completely cover the 6 or reduce it to show off the 6 without being cut getting cut off.
    Although you may not get the same small seconds on the time only version, I think the Baltic sector dial watches, both the time only and the chronograph do an admirable job for the price.

    Given that this watch so carefully reproduces most of the original watch I'd wonder if the original had a frosty edged crystal.
    Another possibility is that Longines wants you to look straight on to the dial, not at an angle.
    I bought the version with the black strap, which I think looks great, and this came with a second blue jean style NATO strap and a strap removal tool. I think concern with watch straps is a bit silly (no offense). You can buy replacement straps, including hand made ones, at a very appealing price. I have used Delugs several times. A hundred or so dollars for a replacement strap is a good deal, in my view.
    BTW, these watches can be had at discount from authorized dealers. Corporate just kicked up the price to $2325, almost a $200 hike. Outrageous. But if an AD has it, it's probably at the old price. Negotiate a 20% discount and be done with it. That's what I did.
    This watch also hides some cool things that only pop out when you've had it for awhile. For example, notice the shine on the washer and cap that hold the hands in place. This is important for shiny blued hands, but it could easily have been missed. Then notice that the sub seconds grooved texture looks a lot like a Japanese rock garden effect. Was this by chance? Well, the whole dial is based on negative space, a very important Japanese design concept.

    Well you didn’t disappoint with the JLC bashing which is of course, why I’m watching. So how about that cloudy sapphire. Nix to this. So what about the one that came out with that Milanese bracelet late last year? I love that one

    I'm no fan of the Hodinkee tax, but their version kills this watch IMO. So much cleaner without the cut off 6, and even worse to my eyes - the cross hatch line running through the logo. That alone is an automatic no deal.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  2 года назад

      fair enough.

    • @skzion2
      @skzion2 2 года назад +1

      I disliked the Hodinkee version precisely because of those changes.
      The sectors moving out from the center are the most noticeable aspect of this watch. However, there are also layers. These layers are not coordinated with each other. The crosshairs just dinging the G is not only part of the original design, but it reinforces the idea that you are looking through crosshairs at an image, and the crosshairs are independent of that image. This is an almost subconscious effect.

    • @misterbianco6202
      @misterbianco6202 2 года назад +1

      @@skzion2 I absolutely agree. The Hodinkee version kills the whole idea of the sector dial and makes it a boring watch. And even if I've always loved Longines the same holds true for the Spirit as to me it looks like every third watch on Amazon. The sector dial really is something special that is unlikely to be seen anywhere else.

    • @misterbianco6202
      @misterbianco6202 2 года назад +1

      True, 50m would have been nice, but I'm sure Longines has a buffer in the stated WR and as long you don't go showering or swimming with it, you'll be fine. Omegas and Pateks of that kind don't give you more WR and everybody is fine with that.
