As a former competitive gymnast myself, I can understand that feeling. I loved gymnastics for years, but later I just wanted it to end but I wasn't allowed to quit. One gymnast you forgot who could be top ten is Ludmilla Tourischeva 1968-1976 from the USSR. 3 Olympic Team Golds 68, 72, 76; Olympic All Around Gold; 7 World Championship golds; 5 World Cup Golds in 1975 sweeping every event; 8 European Championship Golds. Food for thought, she is easily a top ten or honorable mention! Great video and good remembrance of seeing every single one of them perform on TV. It was two Olympic Games that turned the US into a juggernaut, first was 1972 watching Kathy Rigby compete against Olga Korbut and Ludmillia Tourischeva and seeing how far the USSR was ahead of the rest of the world, and the second was 1976 when Nadia did her thing and getting perfect tens. From those two Olympics starting in 1984 the USA become a force as money was put into the sport and these incredible young women became what they are today. Bravo...You ABSOLUTELY did your homework !!! I remember falling in love and being mesmerized with the sport after seeing Olga Korbuts' performances those many years back.❤
I’ve always loved gymnastics. I’ve watched it since I was a kid and when Nadia won the perfect 10’s at the Olympics I was glued to the television. We only had one tv and my dad had total control over it when he was home from work. Instead of flipping back to a ball game, he let me watch gymnastics. Nadia had such incredible grace and precision it was breathtaking to watch her. If you look at how she did everything you’ll notice she never even wobbles or misses her step. That’s pretty amazing. Anyway, I haven’t missed an Olympic gymnastics event since then. When I watched Simone Biles for the first time, I was blown away by her strength and explosive performances. She is like a combatant attacking and destroying those skills with inhuman ability. She’s mesmerizing to see perform. Nobody since Nadia ever excited me as much as Simone. I’ve loved seeing all the gymnasts you’ve put a spotlight on. They are all amazing athletes to say the least. Honestly I have no idea why anyone ever decided to start twirling on bars or flipping across the floor. If you think about it too much, the whole thing seems ridiculous and pointless. Why do it at all? I think it’s not only because seeing what human beings are capable of doing is inspirational but it brings people together. These sporting events all bring people together to celebrate our God given talents and abilities. Instead of fighting ugly wars and making other civilizations seem inferior to each other, in sports we can see that we are all equals and see our humanity in others. It’s important for world peace. Thank you for your very accurate list of gymnasts who excel at overcoming obstacles of all kinds. They bring out the best in us all. Your list is extremely accurate too. 😊
Katelyn deserved more than just an honorable mention. She was amazing and has so much more potential to unlock. It’s so sad to see how people would body shame her to the point of leaving.
Well I think he was ranking them based off of their Olympic and world championship accomplishments and included top in the world, not just the US, so there were a lot to narrow down to just 10. Katelyn was absolutely amazing and her story is sad, but the happiness she had once she switched to college and had a genuine and caring couch she really showed her true love for the sport. You're right she had SO much potential, but I think she even showed that in college gymnastics, she just didn't stay elite to gain the Olympic and world medals that I think his list was shining light on.
My only complaint would be Dawes shud b a lil higher. I wish u would have showed her back to back tumble, which they are no longer allowed to do. But other than that it was awesome. Thank you
FOR NADIA TO SAY THAT SIMONE IS THE G.O.A.T. IN MY OPINION IS PROBABLY THE HIGHEST HONOR SIMONE WILL EVER RECEIVE , GREAT LIST SWOOPE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !!!
Biggest lie Nadia ever told. She just did not like Olga Korbut 'cause she's Russian. Olga did a back flip off the high bar of the uneven parallel bars and caught the high bar again that they barred because it's too dangerous. Most creative moves of all. Even Cold War Americans loved her.

@@ronross3410 If Elena Mukhina hadn't been paralyzed she would have had an amazing career. If only they had let her take the two years to heal from her leg fracture instead of forcing her out of her cast early and making her train on 300 calories a day while she was healing to loose a little weight from the injury. Most of all if they had listened to her when she complained she wasn't ready and didn't have the strength to do the Thomas salto, she wouldn't have been paralyzed. Some say she felt more freedom after her injury then before due to the grueling life she lived and the fact her country and coach wouldn't allow her to retire or heal from injuries they way she needed too.
Nadia will always be #1 in my book. Watching her score the world's first perfect 10 during the '76 Olympics is one of those moments I will never forget. The world hadn't recovered from that shock before she did it again... and again... and again for a total of 7 perfect 10's. Simone Biles may be the best gymnast in the world but she's never had a moment like that. I don't think anyone has.
Nadia had grace, but was weak, less athletic, and unoriginal. Just did a clean performance. Biles is on a whole different level. Grace is not even part of the equation anymore.
Pound for pound Olga is probably the STRONGEST woman for her size. Her and Nadia were the 1st names I considered gymnastic superstars. Simone just took it to another level. Those are my top3
What a lovely tribute. Thank you for remembering the exquisite, but doomed Elena Mukhina. Mary Lou may not have won a lot of medals, but her legacy was that she jump started the gymnastics fever in the US, and a few Olympics later, they have pretty much dominated the sport. Shannon Phillips very much was inspired by Nadia Comaneci- you can tell in her elegant form, so reminiscent of the great Romanian. As for Simone….there’s not much more to say. Sure, it would have been great if she compete in all the events in 2021, but she ‘s not only talented and hardworking, she’s very, very smart. She knew she was having mental problems and sat out most of the events. She knew what was at stake and wisely took the appropriate measures. What a true champion. I hope her records last forever, but even If they don’t, we all know we have witnessed something special. Thanks for being a man who appreciates ladies’ gymnasts. I’d say you are a real gentleman. Subscribing!
I like that Simone Biles is listed at number one, but my favorite gymnast of all time is Olga Korbut. Her Korbut Flip, which is banned is the greatest flip in gymnastic history.
She was is a graceful beauty. I really loved watching her. I was like waiting the entire time to hear her name. If it wasnt mentioned I would be very disappointed.
Great compilation of the best! Never thought in my lifetime I'd live to see someone beat Nadia. Congratulations to all of them. All you young ladies never give up on your dreams 💞
I'm a 52 yr old dude and I'm always amazed by these women and male gymnasts as well, of how they can contort their bodies with such flexibility. If I tried 1/4 of what they do you'd better have an ambulance on standby cause something would definitely pop or snap in my body.
Olga Korbut, I LOVE HER Ludmilla Tourischeva Nellie Kim As a youngster I had a favorite athlete in every area of sport. Here's my list * Track and Field Evelyn Ashford. (female Olympic track teams are always outstanding) Flo Joe * DIVING Jennifer Chandler * RACING Shirley Muldowney *Volleyball Flo Hyman * Swimming Enith Brigitha. Shirley Babashoff
I saw Olga Korbut's Olympics performance. It was thrilling only to be followed by Nadia Comenici in the next. She couldn't be beat. Now its Simone Biles. It's hard to imagine anyone ever beating her-- ever!
I agree and think of what Elena may have accomplished if they had let her heal from her leg fracture, not forced her out of the cast, which she said at the time she could tell she wasn't ready. They( her coach and the government came and told her she was being selfish to want to heal) forced her to go on until she ended up back at the hospital to be recast and was then told she'd train in the cast. After she gained a little weight due to the injury she was training a grueling schedule on 300 calories a day. She continued to tell them she wasn't ready to be doing that move and that one day she'd end up dead or paralyzed. They told her she was lazy or just didn't want to perform. It was so sad, I think she was the equivalent of a slave, an athlete in the soviets union in those days.
Great vid knew Simone would be #1 but interesting to see the older great gymnasts you picked.. one reason I LOVED Dominique Dawes was that she would do forward and backward tumbling that were so awesome she had to eventually stop she said it exerted so much energy and you have never seen anyone else so it lol

This was great. Only thing I think you could have added was at the end of your "essay" on Simone you should have said, "and not finished" as of this date she is still active and if not for fucking Covid and the delay of the 2020 Olympics and cancellation of World championship, she would have added many more medals already.
Awesome!! They all were and still are very special embedding their own unique talent in the world of gymnastics. Thank you for this clip.. ps. I joined your channel as well....
As a former competitive gymnast 🤸♀️ from Texas of course on the male side I had the joy of watching these amazing women. Even those who obviously came before me. Your knowledge is vast but I felt like Svetlana Boginskya deserves to be in the top 10. Just my opinion.
Recall that Nadia Comanici invented the perfect 10 score. She was simply spectacular. Olga and she simply redefined gymnastics. Biles is good too, but Nadia was an innovator, and really uplifted the sport, lik Olha.
And of course there is asthetic aspect to gymnastic. Olga Kurbut and Nadia Camanici are well better. Don't tell me I'm a racist. If we talked about track and field sprint I would say that nobody is as beautiful as Black female athlets, Delilah Muhammad and Alyssa Felix. But gymnastic looks better with slim bodies.
Update: Legendary gymnast Shannon Miller actually has 7 Olympic medals and 9 World Championship medals for a total of 16 medals, so she should be much higher on your list.
Yes and SImone Biles has now gotten 35 metals total, though it seems she's planning on another Olympics prior to hanging up her career, so that might mean several more world's too. The judges have not given her to point credits for her really difficult moves, which is really tragic.
Excellent list. I also enjoyed looking at the changes in equipment over the years. Those early beams were wood, not padded! The floor ex mat didn't have as much spring as it does now and the vault is completely different, even the spring boards. It was interesting to also note that the landing, safety mats were much thinner. The sport has changed so much over the years, but it will always be my favorite to watch. Respect!
Thanks for the list. My favorite of course is Simone Biles. Have so loved watching her compete and win over the years. Also Olga Korbut was a great gymnast to watch for her flexibility alone. Amazing!
Olga and the one who paralyzed was the best for me and the China girl. They all are great. I watched story on the one that was injured for 2 hours. That story was amazing and crazy sad. Coach was dead wrong
If you are talking longevity in the sport and influence on younger gymnasts, you should have given at least an honorable mention to Oksana Chusovitina. She has been actively competing longer than anyone else and still qualifies for event finals.
🧐You could easily do a top 10 based on the equipment used...I remember training on equipment evolving in the 80's where having the new equipment made skills much better and less intimidating 😉👍 🤔I'd like to see Simone Biles perform on the equipment us older gymnasts used in competition...no springs in the floor, no mini tramps to vault on, bars that don't flex, the texture of the beam...no training except warmups, just perform on what you are given the day you get there😎

@@garygraves2853 did you ever know any young girl female gymnasts personally?
@@mylesthomasandfriends838 No but I've been raised to pay attention to people around my child! I'm not making a joke out of the subject, I'm a firm believer in no prison for child predators!
Bravo...You ABSOLUTELY did your homework !!!
I remember falling in love and being mesmerized with the sport after seeing Olga Korbuts' performances those many years back.❤
I agree with most but Svetlana Khorkina should of been in the top 5. She was just amazing to watch and it looked effortless and very elegant!
Yes! Where’s Khorkhina?! Three Olympics, 8 moves named after her, groundbreaking performances. She’s my all-time favorite.
She should have been top 5 at least
Were there a lot of pretty young girl gymnasts who knew so much about Babe pig in the city?
Well I think he was ranking them based off of their Olympic and world championship accomplishments and included top in the world, not just the US, so there were a lot to narrow down to just 10. Katelyn was absolutely amazing and her story is sad, but the happiness she had once she switched to college and had a genuine and caring couch she really showed her true love for the sport. You're right she had SO much potential, but I think she even showed that in college gymnastics, she just didn't stay elite to gain the Olympic and world medals that I think his list was shining light on.
At least she got honerable mention.. I feel you though
My only complaint would be Dawes shud b a lil higher. I wish u would have showed her back to back tumble, which they are no longer allowed to do. But other than that it was awesome. Thank you
Agreed. She's absolutely amazing
I use to love that
Any list that does not have Nadia at # 1, cannot be taken seriously.
FOR NADIA TO SAY THAT SIMONE IS THE G.O.A.T. IN MY OPINION IS PROBABLY THE HIGHEST HONOR SIMONE WILL EVER RECEIVE , GREAT LIST SWOOPE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !!!
Well said thanks for commenting.

You left out Ludmilla Tourischeva, 9 Olympic medals and and 11 world medals
I agree ! She’s my absolute favourite gymnast of all time.
Simone Biles is amazing and extremely strong but she lacks the grace of Nadia.
Nadia had grace, but was weak, less athletic, and unoriginal. Just did a clean performance. Biles is on a whole different level. Grace is not even part of the equation anymore.
@@kimberlysapp7862 it should be because Simone looks husky and that is not cute
@@meadc6754 All the modern gymnasts do. All of them look butch compared to the amazing eastern european girls. Not as fun to watch anymore.
@@missvida6251 yes I agree. I don't enjoy watching simone, she's a bit chunky or something lol
Pound for pound Olga is probably the STRONGEST woman for her size. Her and Nadia were the 1st names I considered gymnastic superstars. Simone just took it to another level. Those are my top3
All of these ladies are great. I loved watching Dominique Dawes in her day. That routine @7:40 was VERY unique.
Im glad you covered it in your video I am a true women's gymnastics fan myself
I like that Simone Biles is listed at number one, but my favorite gymnast of all time is Olga Korbut. Her Korbut Flip, which is banned is the greatest flip in gymnastic history.

She was is a graceful beauty. I really loved watching her. I was like waiting the entire time to hear her name. If it wasnt mentioned I would be very disappointed.
She’s my favourite too, followed by Nadia and then Simone.
I’m so glad you mention poor Elena. May she Rest in peace.

@@TerrySwoopeVideos have you ever heard of Diane Durham from Gary Indiana....look her up.
I saw Olga Korbut's Olympics performance. It was thrilling only to be followed by Nadia Comenici in the next. She couldn't be beat. Now its Simone Biles. It's hard to imagine anyone ever beating her-- ever!
Oh, THANK YOU for mentioning Elena Mukhina.
You're so welcome!
Totally agree thanks for commenting.
Awesome dawsome.
Awesome video. So well put together. I liked the music, I found myself moving..lol

Simone Biles also created a gymnastic original move that they named after her and no one has

These beautiful outfits my mom has been making for 40 years!
Nadia should be at the top of everyone's list.
This was great. Only thing I think you could have added was at the end of your "essay" on Simone you should have said, "and not finished" as of this date she is still active and if not for fucking Covid and the delay of the 2020 Olympics and cancellation of World championship, she would have added many more medals already.

As a former competitive gymnast 🤸♀️ from Texas of course on the male side I had the joy of watching these amazing women. Even those who obviously came before me. Your knowledge is vast but I felt like Svetlana Boginskya deserves to be in the top 10. Just my opinion.
I also coached women gymnastics 🤸♀️ and the amount of Olympic Games from 88 until 2000 and the world championships is just amazing.
Awesome Dawesome!!!!
Thanks Sir, for doing great research for this video, I learned a lot and was in tears at what happen to these previous women.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for commenting.
Recall that Nadia Comanici invented the perfect 10 score. She was simply spectacular. Olga and she simply redefined gymnastics. Biles is good too, but Nadia was an innovator, and really uplifted the sport, lik Olha.
They stopped giving out perfect 10's after the 70's and Nadia said Biles is the greatest ever that's why she's number one.
Biles is great. She should be getting scores of (10). also. Perfect gymnastic physique, and great attitude.

what is with the thumbnail? sick.
Nice vid. But who's on your thumbnail?
Excellent list. I also enjoyed looking at the changes in equipment over the years. Those early beams were wood, not padded! The floor ex mat didn't have as much spring as it does now and the vault is completely different, even the spring boards. It was interesting to also note that the landing, safety mats were much thinner. The sport has changed so much over the years, but it will always be my favorite to watch. Respect!
can somebody out there please let me know the name of the song at the end with Nadia and Simone"s scene? Love her voice and that jazzy sound.
Ive been looking too for like 2 in a half years bro it’s so good
Simone has enough gold medals she deserves a crown 👑
Thanks for the list. My favorite of course is Simone Biles. Have so loved watching her compete and win over the years. Also Olga Korbut was a great gymnast to watch for her flexibility alone. Amazing!
Olga and the one who paralyzed was the best for me and the China girl. They all are great. I watched story on the one that was injured for 2 hours. That story was amazing and crazy sad. Coach was dead wrong

🧐You could easily do a top 10 based on the equipment used...I remember training on equipment evolving in the 80's where having the new equipment made skills much better and less intimidating 😉👍
🤔I'd like to see Simone Biles perform on the equipment us older gymnasts used in competition...no springs in the floor, no mini tramps to vault on, bars that don't flex, the texture of the beam...no training except warmups, just perform on what you are given the day you get there😎
Great video! Some of these gymnasts I never heard of & others I forgot about...I do feel Dominque Dawes should be higher on the list however.
Good point! thanks for commenting.
