Honestly, I never actually hated the counter tops but this honestly just made the kitchen feel more open and (clean?) I don’t know but I’m in loveeee.
Honestly, yes.
Agreed
Honestly
@@48mavemiss2 stop i’m dying i was half asleep in the car typing this 😭
getting rid of that color countertops actually makes me a little sad because it matches the shelves so well! i guess she can always paint the shelves though. i'd probably like the countertops better if they were more of a sandstone with the little flecks of glitter than just a flat glossy tan. the faux marble does look FAB though!
The white gloss paint over the white wall looks like you've got a delightfully delicate lace on the wall, I love how ethereal it is!
YES
B babe tree 😮 hghgugguore😅reesesee😅erer
I think painting over the countertops was a great idea! You are definitely correct about the landfill aspect, and like you said most people can't afford to just replace the countertops. I think we get blinded by these amazing renovation shows and then people forget that most people can never afford something like it! There's a cost of living crisis going on, but that doesn't mean people doesn't want to change up their spaces. DIY's are great for this 😊
But the point of having a granite or rock countertop is to be safe for cooking, so you can put hot pans on without burning the countertop, instead, it is now just as functional as a laminate. So I see why people say that painting over granite is a sin 😂, but everyone can do whatever they want, it is their home.
@@elenagarciagil812 yes that's what I was thinking, it defeats the whole purpose of the granite
But stone is a natural material that is biodegradable and not harmful to the environment whereas epoxy is very toxic and is not biodegradable so when these countertops eventually are replaced they will be more harmful in a landfill than if they were not covered in epoxy. Just something to think about. If you can afford it, it would be better to just get new granite than using epoxy. I love Mia so much and I think her thought process was for sure correct and applies to other situations beautifully, maybe not this one.
@@elenagarciagil812Just to let you know that you can’t put hot pans directly on stone or quarts counter tops because they will crack and break from the concentrated heat from the pan
@@Jason-bc8us For the stone to break due to heat it has to be an extended time, instead putting a hot pan for less than a minute will not break it. if you search they are the recommended ones for possible resistance to heat.
Thanks for the shoutout ❤️, the countertops will not yellow as long as you buy the right epoxy and use rubbing alcohol/simple soap and water to clean it. Don’t use acidic cleaners on it and you will be fine.
omg well thank you for the amazing tutorial!!
@@MiaMaples you’re welcome ❤️
Hi
When Mia's house is literally a giant doll house..freaking love your willingness to try everything and do things out of the norm! The house is turning into your perfect dollhouse😊
I will never get tired of Mia’s content! Seriously one of the most wholesome and down to earth RUclipsrs💕
agreed ❤
Same! 💜
Such an inspiration 🥹🫶🏼
I JUST described Mia's videos to my daughter this way!
Tbh!
The peek-a-boo paint idea (gloss over matte) works best with darker colors because white, for example, naturally reflects light moreso than dark colors- so the distinction between, say, matte black (highly light absorbent) and glossy black (mostly light reflective) is greater. The key here is that you're playing with the properties of light, so maximum impact would be achieved with the most light absorbent base colors you can find (dark mattes) with the highest sheen topper as possible. 🌠
I love ur profile pic 😻
Your profile😂😂😂
i would love to see mia try the resin countertops with the dried flowers in it!!
Omg we have the same name haha
Omg that would be so pretty, I think she should’ve done that with the small small counter in the laundry room it would look great!
Agreed !! It’d be so pretty !
I loved how your epoxy countertops turned out. I don't think you need to worry too much about people saying you shouldn't paint over granite. The way that you're always looking for affordable ways to renovate your space is super relatable because not everyone has a budget to get brand new countertops 😂 I personally have used peel and stick tiles in my laundry and I love it! I needed something quick, so that is why I used that option as opposed to real tiles. I'm always inspired by you and Mama Maples. Pls keep being you ❤
question, are peel and stick renter friendly? I want to do it in my kitchen (I have no backslash) but I'm TERRIFIED to alter my space without any knowledge of how it'll come off lol
@@rebeccalynn3980 It's called PEEL and stick for a reason right?
@@uniwolfgamer1094 unfortunately, some brands leave sticky remnants if you peel them off especially if they’ve been up for a while
the POINT of a granite countertop is that you can totally prepare food on it and its 100% safe. Having a layer of paint over it is just utterly stupid. Enjoy eating little flecks of paint in your homemade bread
@@donnk Well I'm not sure if epoxy is 100% food safe but at least they're not eating paint
This woman never fails to put a smile on my face
Mia is the sweetest purest funniest RUclipsr imo I feel so happy whenever I see her❤️
So true, she has such a fun and bubbly personality! :)
@RatDealer fr
FRRR I LKVE HER SM
Yes, Mia is very funny and fun
The struggle is real when it comes to actually “just changing the countertops”. 😂
I have the typical builders grade counters that are Laminate and I hate them. But you know what I hate more than my counters? A mortgage, so I’ll pay that off first. 😂
I felt the pre-existing counter tops matched the shelves in color (neutral taupe). But, the white marble counter tops open the room up more, brightening, and creating a clean feeling. 💘
I absolutely love the peak a boo paint idea!! It would look so good with a grey color! Or pastels a lighter and darker of the same pastel color!! 👌🏻 chefs kiss😊
Yes! I was thinking she should do it in the same room she put the prism window film so maybe the peek a boo will show up rainbow!
That's a great idea for a baby room!
@@paulaudo oh that would be so magical!!🥰
@@staceyotten5312 yes it could be so precious!!
I can say this for everyone Mia is truly one of the best RUclipsrs ever. She never fails to entertain us❤
Edit:thanks for all the likes
Wait that WALLPAPER?! That vintage fashion lady pattern wallpaper??? Can someone kindly link me to the video where it was installed because I love it so much and want I find it
I agree. I was watching with my husband and my teens and everyone was entertained
@@woin9361 dm Mia 😆even i like it too it's so pretty
agreed, she's the only youtuber i watch every single video for anymore
thank you for wearing PPE and telling people to wear it. people don't understand how dangerous resin is in it's uncured state. your countertops turned out fantastic
Girl, you are such a sweetheart ! I very much love that you are unapologetically yourself at all times and politely let everyone know that you are not going to allow yourself to feel bothered or put down by the naysayers. I love that you will not be wearing make up and let the world know "Hey, this is me, this is who I am and right now it ain't worth putting make up on just to cover it up and ruin it with a mask." I also loved that you told people straight that they can disagree, but you feel it would have been more of a waste of the current granite and the dollars to replace it and you felt it more worth the while to go over it. I agreed both times ... not worth dolling up to cover it with a mask and it would be a waste to rip out the old but still very usable granite. You go girl. You are a great example to young women and girls everywhere ... to all of us ! Thank you.
Well said! ❤ I love Mia..she’s the best!
For starters painting the granite was totally unnecessary and she should know better regardless. No need to follow trends. Just by doing other changes that granite would have had its time to shine.
Hey @@vaderladyl! I believe that Mia actually agrees with you on the topic of not needing to follow trends! She's not really one to follow all the latest industry trends, and as @jennidhue2216 pointed out, she's always unapologetically herself. She was just curious about how a new look would change up her kitchen, and it turned out to be something she was really excited about!
But hey, we all have our own opinions, and that's totally cool. I'm just glad we can have a friendly chat about it and appreciate each other's perspectives ☺
I love the mosaic window cling. I put them on a big window I had in my studio apartment so I would have some privacy.
I’m so glad she tried this because I just moved into an apartment and my neighbor that lives across from me NEVER turns her balcony light off! It shines in my bedroom all night long. I ordered these in the brown color way and I’m so excited
Around 20 years ago I did the flat paint with glaze stripes. It was so easy and elegant for the time. I love the flower roller, so pretty!
I am no expert on epoxy but on a site I was reading about epoxy countertops someone mentioned that even if it is food safe that means it is only safe if your food touches the counter for a couple of seconds and it can’t rest on the surface. I don’t usually leave food on my counters but I will leave the odd thing. Not sure if this is true or not but if anyone decides to recreate this, look into it especially if you have kids! Mia, your counters look awesome!
Hearing you say "hey guys today we're doing a very exciting video" makes me so happy every time. I remember when you didn't really have an intro and people used to get mad that you said that at the beginning of every video, and you embraced it and just made it your intro. I love it, makes me smile every time! You're wonderful, Mia ❤️❤️❤️
epoxy and painting over the countertops was such a genius idea and was very cost effective as well!! it turned out so cute and it matches the rest of the kitchen as well
Tacky and won't last.
@vaderladyl why are you so angry about it? Like relax
@@madihamotala9405Literally 😂 have you seen her comment history? She seriously needs a life
So glad you're still at it ten years later girl. I have been watching your videos almost since you started ten years ago. Congratulations on your success .🎉
Omggg she actually started youtube 10 years agooo?! February 2013 ongg damn
@@exp-io853 yup crazy huh & still knocking out videos left and right. That's how you can tell when somebody loves what they do.
I think she said she started making videos when she was 13. She’s been doing this almost half her life! I am probably older than Mama Maples, but I enjoy all of Mia’s videos. ❤
@@SueLW65💖😁
Mia out here living in a real life fairy tale house. My aesthetic is so different (I love goth and dark stuff) but honestly I love this whimsical fairy tale aesthetic she makes. She makes everything so pretty.
I love how it turned out! Just a warning sometimes spray paint when not fully dry before coming in contact with epoxy can cause separation. I have been working with both for several years now so it’s just a tip in case you ever run into problems with it! Alcohol inks can be used and works phenomenal when trying to prevent future yellowing!
I'm actually blown away by how much I liked the tiles and the way your counters came out. Nice work.
I appreciate the commentary about the granite countertops and the expense involved with just ripping it out. I also like how you mentioned they just throw it away. It's not often recycled. So for anyone trying to argue that covering granite counters is such a waste blah blah get new counters, it's more of a waste to rip them out to get the new ones honestly. So I fully agree with you Mia about just making them your own instead and repurposing them. It's better than tossing them in the trash imho.
Just came here to say I love that you trusted your gut and changed the counters. They turned out freaking amazing! You should be very proud of yourself… Saving 12k, saving the environment and getting the look too gets 5 stars from me! 🙌
Ok I think this while watching every single video of yours but your mom is genuinely the sweetest person ever. Like even the outtakes you hear her always giggling. Oh and I love your videos for years now.
That is seriously the cutest wallpaper for a laundry room, craft room!!! I’m in love 😍 😍😍
The countertops look amazing! I definitely appreciate the idea of repurposing what you have. Was super curious to know how the cost of the DIY compared to the estimate. I need that window film asap!
You know, I was left wondering if there wasn't any way she could have traded or sold the stone countertop. That seems like a better option than putting epoxy on stone (it is simply not compatible over a long period of time, the resin ages and behaves differently to the stone, and besides food safe resin is quite expensive). And there is always the laminate option, which is fairly inexpensive.
My daughter has that exact window cling film! We live on the bottom floor in a city and moved in when she was 13 so I wanted to make really extra sure that no one could see in her room! In the morning it's so beautiful! Little rainbows everywhere!
Live in city as well and most people on bottom floors have it on all rooms just becoiuse people see in with just walking past when not even have grass between pathway and window. Me happy I live high up so not need to bother
@@AnniCarlsson yeah my building is 125 years old so I also found some that looks reminiscent of wrought iron windows and I have that in my bedroom windows and in the living room windows!
The matte and gloss design is much more visible with dark color paint regardless of how much light a room gets. I did this in my brothers lounge room with black paint it came out really cool.
Love how supportive your mom is! I love my mom but she would think I am crazy and wouldn't believe it would turn out right.
The kitchen is amazing !!! I feel the counter top just tied everything together beautifully! And the laundry room is amazing !!
Mia is a type of RUclipsr I never get tired of watching her
This is the first diy I’ve watched from anyone where I felt like it was addressing something I wanted to change in my own home and it seems doable for me! Amazing job, Mia!
I love that gloss paint pattern over the matte idea! So beautiful 😍
Mia is the purest sweetest funniest RUclipsr imo she's lovely I always feel happy when I see her❤️😊
All the diys turned out great, loved that the countertops worked out - I actually liked them before but they really tie the whole room together now. Nice to see Stuart briefly, hope you are all well, especially after the mask thing 😊
What mask thing are you talking about? 🤔
@@Trishi95 the epoxy mask thing she said about towards the end :))
usually epoxy gives you health problems if you use it continuously without mask/gloves... I've been using it sporadically and outside the house since 2020, mostly without a mask, first because due to the pandemic couldn't buy one, then because when it's super hot you can barely breath with it, and so far I haven't had any problems.
Well done Mia! Both the laundry room and the kitchen counter look amazing! I agree with you, giving the counter another chance rather than replacing it and it becoming garbage, it’s a much better alternative and it saves you money so yay! 👏🏼👏🏼
I never even noticed the countertop before, but I totally agree with not throwing them in the landfill. It looks so good. I wish you got a close up of them. I would really like to see what it looks like up close. The laundry room is super cute now. Nice job ❤
It's stunning AND it makes the fridge look nicer!
We definitely need more content around the house we need to see more of that living room and kitchen you renovated
I love, love your refurbished countertops. You have such a well rounded idea of recycle. Thank you Mia…❤️
The countertops look great, and the new finish really goes well with the rest of the kitchen renovation. Good job.
This whole video makes me feel so comfortable 😌 gives me the cute grandma vibes. Especially with the skirt and the yellow west matching the colors. I love it 🐣
i like how in ever single one of your videos with your mom in it she always laugh and is always happy
Wow! The transformation of the counter top and kitchen! Amazing!
I need that wallpaper you have in you’re laundry room. I love all that vintage (inspired)stuff. My kitchen is 1950s my bedroom is 40’s n
50s pin ups. Love it all!!
I agree, paint over stone/granite rather than letting it go to landfill. It turned out awesome!
Honestly your home renovation videos are FOR SURE some of my favorites 💟
I love your kitchen , laundry, basically your entire house because it gives off that vintage British calming vibes.......❤❤❤
the kitchen definitely looks more brighter and cleaner. i think you did the right choice. i'm in love with all the diys!!!
Thank you for this video.👍❣ Both you and your Mom are so amazing. I am suffering a deep depression but I saw you were on. Thank you for being here.
As a geologist I can tell those counter tops were not granite, they are natural stone but probably something closer to limestone (sedimentary rock not igneous). So don't worry that much 😊 they are probably more resistant now, against lemon juice for example.
This is a comment I didn’t know I needed, but I am really happy to see. Thank you for your input. I was iffy on the marble especially epoxying and painting over it, but I feel much better messing around with what is likely limestone (ie cheap and far more prolific compared to marble.) my only major concern left is how food safe that epoxy really is and are you devoting yourself to a lifetime of “I HAVE to use a cutting board for everything.”
I love the new (renovated) countertops!! The room looks so much brighter and roomier!
I think the gloss paint design over the matte wall paint was gorgeous!!! I so want to do that somewhere in my house now 😍
I honestly liked the colour of the old countertops, it matched well with the decor!
Mia, your awesomeness continually amazes me. Your creativity, fearlessness and work-ethic have me in awe. Love your content and pure soul. Also, Mama Maples is wonderful. ❤

I admire Mia so much. I'm a new follower, and I've been binge watching these videos for weeks now. This is what an influencer should be: a kind, honest, genuine person. And the variety of the content is insane! What can't Mia do? That's a question there might be no answer to.

Yay! Thank you for the new content, I love crafting with you😊
Loved it ❤ really loving all the rooms. So lovely. As you said I'd rather paint then send it to landfill. It made such a difference and brightened the kitchen massively. Even just with primer could see it brightening
Mia, bravo to you. The counters look great. You saved the land fills and a ton of money. Loved the paint application. The best part is the adorable wallpaper, it reminds me of the patterns in the 70s, and I wore a lot of home made clothes in the 70s.
The house I just sold had a gloss/flat painted room, painted in large bands about 1.5 wide vertically in a warm cream color. It was super cool and subtle! It was done by the previous owners and I highly recommend! I think I will try something like that in the future✨
What a change! It all turned out super cute💜
Yaaaassssss more renovations!! I love watching you transform a space. Obsessed with your vibe and design skills
Lovey video. DIY in a very approachable manner. Many videos for DIY expect so much experience and tools and knowledge. Your DIY videos make everything look doable for all skill levels. And Mama Maples encouragement is always a help.
Love your style and videos mia! Keep up the good work!
I just recently found out my niece watches you and I'm so excited to send her this video bc we were talking about this series! 💜
I love your home renovation videos. I adore pretty much all of your content, but I think these are the most fun. You constantly inspire!
at first i loved the old countertops, but after you changed them, it gave the kitchen a whole new look!
The results in this video! Girrrl! Fantastic. I've never seen a roller like that and it is actually such a cool idea, and it seems to mostly work, with maybe a little practice. The countertops turned out great! I'm curious what the pricing difference was when compared with the 12k estimate of replacement. I love the shoutout to Mama Maples for being a big part of your projects and renos!
Been waiting on a renovation video! Love watching them before bed, from Scotland x
Your videos are truly a light in my day❤keep doing you Mia
I liked the original color of the counter tops. But I'm glad you did this project and that you like them! It looks very fresh and bright!

You know, i love the fact that she is creating everything on her own, like all the things around her has her essence in it, i mean she would just simply sit around stare at wall and find a fact to be proud because she painted it, like idk if i am able to articulate what i am trying to say here but this is truly a wonderful feeling to just basically have your essence in everything, someday real soon my life will look like this I will make sure!
Yess I love a sustainable and entertaining queen 👏👏 well done
Wow the kitchen seems so much brighter, and I love the laundry room! I really admire the way you take on projects I think I`d be scared to do. I mean look at your sewing; you were so determined and it payed off, you`ve made some amazing stuff!
I could never do that to my countertops and ended so awesome as this ones! Omg Mia you are so talented!
I painted my counter tops! It’s not toó difficult!
