Also, in my opinion, they are actually more convenient than cutting the egg with a knife, because then often the yolk swells out of the white. And the slices are also much thinner this way. 😀

Growing up with a Dutch dad and grandmother, we had so many cheese slicers growing up. We even had the fancy ones that matched the fancy dining set. The mini whisk is also perfect for thickening cream for desserts, my family favourite is peppermint crisp tart, makes whisking cream effortless.
I have a lot of those gadgets and they're quite handy. I was way too old when I learned that some countries don't have cheese slicers as normal day thing and actually just use knife to cut the cheese for a sandwich.
@@AnniCarlssonI'm English and I was in my late 20s when I learned that cheese planes existed. But my husband has pretty much always had one. Until Ikea came to the UK a lot of these tools were considered a bit fancy so working class households didn't tend to have them.
Hi Mia! The egg slicer can also be used to slice mushrooms and strawberries. If you are making egg salad, slice the egg once, and then rotate the egg 90 degrees and cut again. It makes chopping the egg very easy. Thanks for the great video!
As a dutch person i can confirm, cheese slicers are amazing and definitely a must have in a kitchen! Definitely not a single-use item as it works as a great peeler for vegetables or fruit too! ☺
As a sweedish person I’m always a little chocked a cheese slicer isn’t a staple in everyone’s home 😂 My fave from this video has to be the cutting-board extensions for easy collection of chopped goods, have to get them next time I’m at IKEA!

I absolutely love the child-like wonder and excitement Mia and Mama Maples get from little kitchen gadgets (and tools) ☺️ She always brings a smile to my face!
I work at IKEA and was putting out price tags in a new room set. It had one of those little squeezy icing bottle things and I had NO idea what it was 😂 I was searching under like baby bottles.. eventually found it! Also the “ice cream” scoops are actually for cookie dough to get nice even size cookies, but good to know it sort of works for ice cream too if you’re desperate 😂
I love how amazed she was by somethings I consider common tools lol (I.e the first tea strainer, cheese slicer, garlic press that opens) 🤣. Loving it ! ❤
As someone with arthritis and bad joints and loose muscles I definitely LOVE the jar opener! I use one all the time in my own life for a bit more independence since it’s hard asking people for help opening up jam when you’re 21 and don’t want to look weak!
I actually use the garlic press in my own kitchen, my mother in law has the pampered chef one but your girls cheap and discovered the ikea one is a great dupe for it. oh those preparation bowls are a game changer !!! Also, can we appreciate how Mia was able to use all of the gadgets in this 3 course meal. I love how we were able to see the real functionality of it vs. just watching it being tested. Loved the dedication
It's really funny and entertaining to watch her marvel over gadgets we have had in Scandinavian countries since the 80's and 90's 😊 The egg slicer is a nostalgic part of my childhood.
@@chandracox6814 some people are considerate at put lower prices items on a wish list. so people don’t have to feel shit for not being able to buy something expensive
When you use the hand held lime squeezer, I believe you are supposed to put the lime (or lemon) in the opposite direction (slice side up) so that the press turns it inside out and you get max amount of juice!
I noticed someone else said most of these gadgets are common in Sweden. I live in America but my grandmother from Sweden raised me. Most of these tools were every day items growing up! The egg slicer and cheese slicer specifically warmed my heart. I just lost her this summer and miss her terribly! The cheese slicer was (and is) a must. The egg slicer reminded me of warm spring days when we would make egg salad sandwiches and sit in the back yard under the big pear trees and eat lunch. Nostalgic. You slice one way, and then turn and slice again, and it dices the eggs! We used an old white one and as a kid I thought it was so nifty.
like half of these tools are common in argentina and if theyre not its because theyre a bit too expensive for the average middle class person but probably on every higher class household, like yea im saving up to buy shoes i cant afford to buy any type of icecream scoop or garlic grater but like theyre not gadgets or uncommon, theyre average items. the garlic grater is easier to clean but still not a gadget, just a better normal tool
Yes most of these stuff you can buy in every grocery store in Sweden. I know cheese slicers is not a thing in a lot of places even if cheese slicer is the best thing ever (not Swedish tho… I think they are Norwegian 😔 but egg slicers…. How do you even get perfect slices of eggs on your sandwich?
My favorite was the fruit cover, simple but super useful. The cheese slicer and the jar opener caught my eye as well. The mandolin is so cool but I don’t think I cook enough to actually need it.
I really loved the preparation bowls! Such a simple and genius idea to free up chopping board space without making a mess on the counter. Definitely getting those on the next IKEA trip 🤩
The cheese slicer is my favourite for a couple reasons: 1. Since I’m Dutch it was funny to see you discover the slicer for the first time. This is because it is a very common thing here in the Netherlands and every household owns one. We call it a ‘kaasschaaf’ here and commonly use it for our lunch sandwiches. 2. I mean, I love cheese too. That should be enough reason as is lol :). Glad to see you discovered the kaasschaaf to make your life a little easier! 3. You can actually use it for other things too. Like if you need another food thinly sliced (cucumber for example).
The cheese slicer and egg slicer is probably in every household in the Nordic countries. So weird seeing it being strange for others. I love when mama maples is in your videos
I’ve seen a lot of comments similar to this. I’m curious what you slice eggs for. Is it common just to serve sliced eggs, or do you use them for something particular?
The egg slicers are GREAT I used them when I worked in the food industry. You can also turn the egg after you've sliced it to cut it into smaller pieces and if you get a sturdy enough one they're good for whole mushrooms and things like that too, it cuts the time way down when you're doing a bunch at once 💖
As a dutchie I must say my favorite gadget is the cheese slicer however we use it everyday so if that's the cutoff for being a gadget it might be considered a tool 🤭 it also serves multiple functions for instance slicing a cucumber or peeling a potato or carrot!
I think the piping thing is for icing and not frosting. It's thinner and less solid, so it would probably work better. That said, that heart rolling pin is definitely my favorite. Makes me wish there was an ikea nearby because that's so simple but so cute!!
The tea strainer is definitely my favorite. I’m a big loose tea drinker so any gadget that helps drink the tea with no mess is a must. Thank you for sharing ❤
The alternate use of the egg slicer is surrogate guitar/harp. We used to have that gadget when I was little and I would come into the kitchen sometimes, pull it out of the drawer, play a "song" on it and put it back. 10/10 would recommend.
I loved the rolling pin cover. I think it’s a great way to add something extra to baked goods without needing too much experience. The fact that it also is removable is a win as it doesn’t take up cupboard space
I love the "bowls" for the cutting board edges! I am lazy and like to use one board for every veggie but sometimes they don't all go into the recipe at the same time. They'd be great for keeping things separate. Only wish they came in like pastel colors instead of carrot and peas colors. 😂
The jar opener is a literal life saver! Don't have to wait for people to visit to open jars anymore or run them under hot water and worry about dropping them while still struggling to open them 😅
When you struggle to open a jar you can use like a butter knife and insert it on the side by the ridges to lift the lid a bit and remove the vacuum. Then, it’s gonna open easily 😊 I hope that makes sense 😅
I have severe arthritis everywhere and the cheapest & easiest thing to get to open up jars and bottles is the gripping shelf/drawer liner, ( you know the one that has little bumps all over it that you can find even at the dollar store) cut a square piece from it and you can open up anything. My mom tried to see one time if it would work after seeing something similar at a house wears store and we have used them for years now, it will amaze you, not to mention it ends up costing a few cents how can you go wrong.
Whoever created the cutting board prep bowl deserves a Nobel prize because its so genius. Ordering it rn XD Also ty Mia for being so generous and kind! Happy Holidays everyone and good luck!
As a VERY messy cook and baker, I find the preparation bowls so useful and cool! I always end up cutting everything on the same cutting board and mixing everything by accident, I need those!
As someone who’s family has to chop a lot for dinners, I have to say my favorite are those cutting board corner bowls. No need to pick up pieces one by one to put them in separate bowls, you can just sweep them in! Also, that Chip high five was the sweetest ever 😭
As a german i grew up with an egg slicer as a staple kitchen gadget. So i guess just because of that, I will pick it. 😄 Also it was really fun to see how you both got so excited about Schnitzel 😄.
For opening jars, give your grandma a "jar key", that just lifts the x of a, little to release the vacuum and then it becomes so easy to twist open, no force needed at all. You also don't need big hands. And it's so small to store. Love it.
That and trying to use the piping bottle for regular frosting instead of royal icing. I love her to death, but I was nearly screaming at the television a few times.
I honestly love the idea of the bowls that hang off the side of a cutting board! I always get overwhelmed with everything that gathers! Also... The cheese slicer is something that I never knew I needed.
You know you're getting old when you get super excited about kitchen gadgets... My favourite one was the roller for heart shaped decorations 😍 Love you Mia!
Superfun as always. Over here in Sweden, we would use the baking bag with tips for creating cookie shapes. The "ice cream scoop" is actually a cookie scoop for the dough that you scoop out on the baking sheet. They are often a little difficult to get out from the usual ice cream scoops why the holes in the middle. And the little whisk, we use it as a foam maker on the top of the coffee or your chai latte :). So hope you will find even more uses for those gadgets. Happy cooking.
As someone from Europe I actually heard of most of them, but the preparation bowl. I literally need one watch me go to ikea after this video 😍 Also I love that you did Schnitzel with those cucumbers. We usually do a cucumber salat as a side dish - Its just cucumber, vinegar, sugar, water, salt and pfeffer so for next time you can try to make it even more traditional if you feel like doing so 😊
As someone who drinks tea everyday, the tea steeping tools are literally a game changer! Especially the second ones they work perfectlyyy! Also the rolling pin one is sooo cute
I think the meat tenderizer was my favorite simply because of the stress relief it seemed to give Mama Maples, she let a lot of emotions out on that schnitzel 😂
I’ve had 4 days off and horrible tooth pain, and I discovered your channel and could not stop watching. Thank you so much for getting me through a tough few days. I definitely subscribed! 🎉
As someone who uses lemons/citrus fruits a lot (I love baking), the lemon squeezer that you said you actually rather disliked is actually something me and my family use almost every day. We don’t have quite the same model, so maybe ours is easier to squeeze. Thanks for the amazing video! Keep up the good work.
i actually think the plastic icing squeezer would work really great for making pancakes! but i think the rolling pin cover is my fave! it’s such a cute touch for any cookie! 💖
I love the egg slicer, totally my favorite! We use ours for mushrooms, berries, and all kinds of stuff! It's perfect for cutting nice strawberries for cakes
Love how excited mama maples is to try all these items with you ☺️☺️ loved the sliders that you can add to the sides of your cutting board during chopping, egg slicer was so satisfying to watch and loved the cheese slicer as well 😁

and to peel other stuff too, i think it is not just for cheese. you can slice cucumber and peel carrots also. :3
It works also nice for mozzarella
@@victoriasch7647 Good to know!! Thank you!
I also use it to slice olives. You can cut 4-6 olives at a time.
@@tammyhellewell6395 That's excellent!
@@erinuber2881 I think you meant to say That's eggcellent! LOL
As a dutch person i can confirm, cheese slicers are amazing and definitely a must have in a kitchen! Definitely not a single-use item as it works as a great peeler for vegetables or fruit too! ☺
Your moms laugh just makes me smile. She sounds like such a fun and kind person. Love the videos!
As a sweedish person I’m always a little chocked a cheese slicer isn’t a staple in everyone’s home 😂 My fave from this video has to be the cutting-board extensions for easy collection of chopped goods, have to get them next time I’m at IKEA!
The average Dutch household also has a cheese slicer
As well as an apple corer and an egg slicer. Those have been around since forever
Finland here. I so feel you on the cheese slicer. So weird it's a "weird item" in Canada and the States. :D
We use knives😹😹😹😹
Same as I Finnish person, like I didn't even know before this video that a cheese slicer isn't as staple of an object as a ladle in every household for example :D
I absolutely love the child-like wonder and excitement Mia and Mama Maples get from little kitchen gadgets (and tools) ☺️
She always brings a smile to my face!
I also work at IKEA and finding out what an item is for or is called drives me crazy 😂
Watching her miss use the icing bottle made me laugh so hard
I cannot on how cute and gentle Chip is when he takes the little piece of apple from Mama Maples. 🥰😍🥺👉🏻👈🏻
I love how amazed she was by somethings I consider common tools lol (I.e the first tea strainer, cheese slicer, garlic press that opens) 🤣. Loving it ! ❤
What did we do to deserve Mia vlogmas and all this content?? * happy crying * ❤❤❤
Is she doing vlogmas everyday?!
Yes! I came to find her vlogmas short but found a whole video!!
@@Karharlan yaayyy, so she’s doing shorts and whole videos mixed but one everyday?
@@Me-su2bu yes shorts everyday I don’t know about videos
YAAA a garlic press that is easy to clean! sign me up!
As someone with arthritis and bad joints and loose muscles I definitely LOVE the jar opener! I use one all the time in my own life for a bit more independence since it’s hard asking people for help opening up jam when you’re 21 and don’t want to look weak!
I've contemplated asking neighbours to open jars for me but I'm not sociable enough (and I'm 26 so awkward as well) 🥲
My favorite part was how excited Mama Maples got to try all of Mia's meals. They love each other so much!
I actually use the garlic press in my own kitchen, my mother in law has the pampered chef one but your girls cheap and discovered the ikea one is a great dupe for it.
Can we also just take a moment and appreciate how genuine you are in every video? Even reading these comments, it really shows that kindness attracts kindness as all of your supporters are equally as lovely as you
The bowls that attach to the cutting board is a game changer! 😮 And the heart rolling pin was so cute!!!
oh those preparation bowls are a game changer !!! Also, can we appreciate how Mia was able to use all of the gadgets in this 3 course meal. I love how we were able to see the real functionality of it vs. just watching it being tested. Loved the dedication
The joy and comforting vibes you and your mom give are absolutely unmatched
The cutting board bowls are absolutely going to be my next IKEA purchase 😂
It's really funny and entertaining to watch her marvel over gadgets we have had in Scandinavian countries since the 80's and 90's 😊 The egg slicer is a nostalgic part of my childhood.
not only Scandinavian, but yeah. It's super fun, to see here mind blown about them, while you like "Well, ehrm... I use them since... ever?"
Same! I'm German and have grown up with these tools and never considered them special lol
Mama Maples dramatic reactions and her contagious laugh is my Favorite 😅
Those cutting board catchers went straight into my Christmas wish list. Definitely a favourite for me!
They're like ten bucks lol just go get em for yourself
@@chandracox6814 Or you can get them for free when people buy it for you.
Here in Mexico those are very common and I’ve always used them the way she used it 🤷🏻♂️ (but with smaller lemons, the green ones 😅)
I am from Slovakia and most of these gadgets are common in my household too! 🙃
@@edinakovacs3719 interesting!! I love that! 😊 so cool to see how in different areas these are common, and in some areas not at all!
like half of these tools are common in argentina and if theyre not its because theyre a bit too expensive for the average middle class person but probably on every higher class household, like yea im saving up to buy shoes i cant afford to buy any type of icecream scoop or garlic grater but like theyre not gadgets or uncommon, theyre average items. the garlic grater is easier to clean but still not a gadget, just a better normal tool
@@duntarwen2043 haha, exactly! I only want perfect slices of egg on my sandwich 😂
Literally Mia's mom has THE BEST laugh! It brings me joy every time I hear it! It's so infectious, I can't help giggling with her! 🤣❤️
My favorite was the fruit cover, simple but super useful. The cheese slicer and the jar opener caught my eye as well. The mandolin is so cool but I don’t think I cook enough to actually need it.
Time to run to IKEA and get the cutting board bowls. Thank you to Mia for giving us the quality content we always need
I love the vegetable jelly covers. They’re such an odd item to show people when they come over but they’re actually super effective
I really loved the preparation bowls! Such a simple and genius idea to free up chopping board space without making a mess on the counter. Definitely getting those on the next IKEA trip 🤩

hearing you and your mum just laugh for this entire video was so wholesome xo
The cheese slicer is my favourite for a couple reasons:
In fact every household in NL should have 2 different ones: for soft and for harder cheeses
The cheese slicer and egg slicer is probably in every household in the Nordic countries. So weird seeing it being strange for others.
I love when mama maples is in your videos
Waw, i didn't even know both existed ! (I'm French). And I'm not convinced it is useful ;-)
But i have the first tool for the spare tea and i didn't know that not everyone had one ^^
I'm dutch and I've never not had a cheese slicer like that haha
I’ve seen a lot of comments similar to this. I’m curious what you slice eggs for. Is it common just to serve sliced eggs, or do you use them for something particular?
@@marcilk7534 yes sliced eggs on bread. Very common breakfast in Scandinavia
I loved how you used the milk frother to stir your hot chocolate 😂 my mom used this gadget literally every morning for her latte macchiato
I'm pretty sure the second piping tool is for thin almost liquids like jams or thin custards ☺️
Or Royal Icing?
@@gingerwhalen7734yes, I think it's for flooding icing.
Oooh that’s a great idea for mushrooms. I was thinking maybe a really soft cheese
So I’m obsessed with the cutting board corners! Seriously, not so hard to make, but ingenious! Thanks for being you Mia!

I will never get over how giggly your mom is it literally has me smiling ear to ear every video. I love you and your mom you guys are so wholesome❤
I am an occupational therapist, and I have recommended the jar opener to so many people! Definitely my favorite of this haul 😁
Love how Mia loves most of the Ikea gadgets!
But was triggered that she never washed any item before using them!! 😳

Also it was really fun to see how you both got so excited about Schnitzel 😄.
For opening jars, give your grandma a "jar key", that just lifts the x of a, little to release the vacuum and then it becomes so easy to twist open, no force needed at all. You also don't need big hands. And it's so small to store. Love it.
I love how Mia used a cookie scooper as an ice-cream scooper, iconic
I came looking for this comment!
@@sidneyrose6 same
That and trying to use the piping bottle for regular frosting instead of royal icing. I love her to death, but I was nearly screaming at the television a few times.
I honestly love the idea of the bowls that hang off the side of a cutting board! I always get overwhelmed with everything that gathers! Also... The cheese slicer is something that I never knew I needed.
Those cutting board bowls are GENIUS, where have they been all of my life?! And the jar opener, truly incredible.

I literally need one watch me go to ikea after this video 😍
Also I love that you did Schnitzel with those cucumbers.
The metal round steeper I use for tea and for powdered sugar on French toast lol. It’s awesome bc you can grab it and it doesn’t go everywhere
I think the meat tenderizer was my favorite simply because of the stress relief it seemed to give Mama Maples, she let a lot of emotions out on that schnitzel 😂

Mama Maples is absolutely hilarious! I’m glad she got to enjoy the multiple course meal. 10/10 job on plating, Mia👏🏻

As someone who uses lemons/citrus fruits a lot (I love baking), the lemon squeezer that you said you actually rather disliked is actually something me and my family use almost every day. We don’t have quite the same model, so maybe ours is easier to squeeze.

i actually think the plastic icing squeezer would work really great for making pancakes! but i think the rolling pin cover is my fave! it’s such a cute touch for any cookie! 💖
I love the egg slicer, totally my favorite! We use ours for mushrooms, berries, and all kinds of stuff! It's perfect for cutting nice strawberries for cakes
Also slices mozzarella balls for a Caprese salad.
The cutting board add-ons are such a game changer!! Definitely picking those up next time I'm at IKEA
the eggslicer is my favourite!! It's also perfect to use to slice strawberries when making and decorating summer cakes :)
Love how excited mama maples is to try all these items with you ☺️☺️ loved the sliders that you can add to the sides of your cutting board during chopping, egg slicer was so satisfying to watch and loved the cheese slicer as well 😁
The cutting board preparation bowl gadget is a must!! Got them from IKEA the other day and it's so much easier to keep my workspace clean. Thank you Mia for bringing them into my life.
As a Norwegian, I can’t live without an egg slicer or a cheese slicer. I have never been in a home that doesn’t have them, and they’re so practical! Also, that Teuta Matoshi dress is stunning (they all are, tbh)
