Most of these people come from American Band Classes, they have been taught their instruments through school and all by the same method in the same place, which can be quite unifying due to relatability. It also means once you've met one you've met them all and it gets really old after a while, never met an accordionist who isn't a cool person however
Double reed instrumentalists don't get enough credit. The reed itself was pretty difficult for me to use (I was a clarinetist/bass clarinetist before trying bassoon). The oboe and bassoon are also heavily underrated.
My older sister was a real pig, she was a flute player and would never let me practice the oboe, saying the oboe was ugly and only she had a right to practice because flutes are soft and "pretty" and would scream whenever I tried to practice, smacking my bedroom door with the broom handle yelling at me to shut up. Needless to say, I immediately dislike all flute players at first glance because of her and honestly hate the sound of a flute.
Seeing these vids make me want to cry bc almost everyone forgets what they r. I’m a bassoon myself and I love playing. Theses vids show how fun it can be being a double reed player. I’m forever going to be a double reed fan

its two pieces of wood tied together so like imagine 2 no 3 clarint reeds attatched together about the middle with a space in between the two sides press together and leave a hole in the middle you kinda duck face andjust tap ya tongue on the bottom one mostly to tongue as far as Mouth Dead you get used to it after a while so unless its chop day or somethin. .although sometimes if im playing a piece with a lot of aggressive tonguing my face will pretty much turn to goo

Ok so I play alto sax in band at school but I have a bunch of other band friends. •Tea time• So I Have a friend in oboe class and they're pretty small, just three oboe players. But there is one bassoon player there. Just one. There was only one, and they couldn't make a whole bassoon class with one person. Had to put him in the oboe class. That's how you know it's one of the neglected instruments.
Warning before you start (it's a small warning but this gets on my nerves): you will ALWAYS feel very lightheaded after you play (even a sharp pain in your head like a migraine but worse for a few seconds), even a few measure will make you feel dizzy because it's so much fast air in such a tiny hole. 8/10 rating as an oboe player, if you sound good it's easy to play, but if you sound bad (lol me) then your going to not really like it. Go for it though!!
Double reeds are amazing, but I’m just not willing to learn reedmaking. Started violin and said goodbye to reeds several years ago. Wish I’d started with violin as a kid. Still adore the oboe though.
