- King Charles became annoyed with a leaking pen during a visit to Northern Ireland's Hillsborough Castle on Tuesday.

Charles, alongside the Queen Consort, Camilla, was attending a reception at the castle, where he met with members of Northern Ireland's assembly.
During a book-signing ceremony towards the end of the visit, Charles realised he had initially signed the wrong date and then complained about the pen he was using, with the Queen Consort saying it was leaking 'everywhere'. The pen was swiftly vanished by a royal aide before Camilla sat down to sign the book herself

People are saying the queen was never grumpy like this, but that's unrealistic. She just lived at a time where people weren't constantly waving cameras in her face - until the last decade or so, but by then she'd already had a lot of practice...
But Charles isn't young either. He must have a similar experience too. His character is just different.

@a n He's always been rude and interfering in my humble opinion.

@a n Bruh, he just asked someone to hold a tray with a pen. That's like... normal behaviour.
His mother would never have behaved like this
the first day in, signing he grimaced and scowled and pushed the pen tray away for the gentleman to get it out of his way. i know theres stress but he seems short tempered. i notice his hands are swollen and he seems to be bloated- perhaps hes having some health issues like high blood pressure or something.
I feel terrible for him. He's lost both of his parents in a short period of time, and he's been crowned the King of England. All while the world is watching him mourn his beloved mom. He has every right to be frsutrated. I can't even begin to imagine the stress he is under.

Why are you correcting that? Lol. Mom is a word used
And He is 73 years old, his mommy became Queen at 25.

He sounds just like his dad! I bet Prince Phillip said something similar multiple times in his life.
To be fair, no matter how old you are, losing a loved one is tough and King Charles just lost both his parents in less than 18 months. Instead of grieving quietly, he's here there and everywhere doing official duties AND attending all these things surrounding his mother's funeral. It's all on his mind constantly and grief comes out differently in everyone.
As somebody who lost his parents before the age of 35, I find it hard to sympathise with him. Also, it's doubtful his behaviour is due to grief. He's always been an entitled brat.
@dragomirmarinov3891 i lost my mum before I was 25 and it took a year to properly process it. Three more family members died in that time. My cousin lost his gran and his mum in the space of nine weeks. Grief comes out differently in everyone.
This has probably been the worst week of his life. I cant imagine the grief and pressure he must feel. I would be an absolute wreck. He's handling it all to the best of his ability and it has been admirable, truly, to see him teary eyed at times. He loved his mother dearly.

I'm from a country who had many past turbulent times with the UK , and caused us much hardship.
However in saying that, King Charles III lost his father just over a year ago and now lost his mother.
He has not got any time to mourn, due to being whisked away to travel to different countries (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England), dealing with all the ceremonies, Harry and his wife, newly crowned King, lack of sleep etc. etc. etc.
Anyone with morals would not have taken this video, of a man who just lost his beloved mother, who I'm sure is under severe pressure and lacking sleep, he is human, give the man a break in his hour of need.
Do not give way to sensationalism and keep your morals in check!

This happened in Hillsborough in Northern Ireland. I live nearby and to be honest it's a shame that this moment earned so much attention. Despite having lost his mother so recently he was very attentive to the gathered crowds and spent many hours in both Hillsborough and Belfast performing his duties. He had flown in from Edinburgh on the morning after having paid a public vigil to his mother in that city the day before. That was preceeded by many long hours of having to guard his private grief in public. He must have been exhausted and highly stressed. That he lost it over a pen in such circumstances is hardly criminal. While in Northern Ireland he held warm meetings with local politicians and most notably Sinn Féin. It was such an historic day and full of extraordinary moments. It seems like a such a shame that the incident with the pen dominated the snippets of international coverage. Big deal. The bigger deal is that the new King spoke and exhanged real pleasantries with Sinn Féin and shared a genuine hug with the President of Ireland. Who could have foreseen a day in which the Sinn Féin leadership would attend such an event and acknowledge the Queen's contribution to reconciliation on the island of Ireland? It was unprecedented.
Well the Irish dont need him
And yet after everything he is going through, his frustration was polite and composed.
Mad respect for King Charles III......he didn't even think to blame Putin for this. Joe Biden would be saying it's Putin's pen, just like the increased cost of living is due to Putin's price hikes. In the crown he talked this way to Diana, so NOT exaggerated from Netflix.
Yep. I thought they were just spicing it up for TV at first but I've done a little internet research and found numerous articles, books and videos that talk about his awful temper. He's always like this and not just because his mother passed away.
That's what happens when you work for the first time in 70 years...
When your job is to sign papers and smile and you can't do it.
I feel bad for him. Both parents gone within a year and he can't even take a second to grieve. That's a lot of pressure on one person. Camilla is trying to help and do what she can but there's only so much she can do. Their lives completely changed and probably not for the better.
And all the people who deal with this literally every single day but also don't inherit a £700m property tax free but need to feed their kids and work 12 hour days to make ends meet?
@@MrClarky1 Feeling bad for him doesn't take away from the hardships of others. As Jacqueline said, it's a lot of pressure on one person -- which would include people in that struggle of losing parents, but needing to push on. What was the point of this?
@@MrClarky1 you are right.... they are financially fine...

@@selenagomez4ever813 I would imagine it's likely that Charles feels guilty for even being the king or being called that since his mother passed less than a week ago. Imagine feeling that type of guilt, on top of having just lost his mother, yet still having to attend events and act like a professional human being.
This isn't to impugn the hardships of others, but Charles doesn't make the rules of the monarchy, nor decide how or why they are enforced.
I really feel for him. My dad passed away 5 weeks ago. As most people know, grieving is hard emotionally and physically. RIP Queen Elizabeth ll.
Sorry or your loss. My mother died 6 years ago next month. Wish I could say it gets easier, but it does become more bearable over time. The loss of The Queen has brought many emotions up again.
Sorry ❤️

I’ve been very emotional and exhausted since Elizabeth died. I could do with getting help again
He must be tired, broken even. Losing a mother is absolutely heartbreaking.
Sorry for losing your dad ❤️❤️❤️❤️
His mother had just died I expect he was upset. His brain all over the place.
It looks like even monarchs have trouble remembering what day it is, we're not alone!
I remember when my father died. I was grieving and so tired at the same time from receiving relatives who come to convey their condolence. I can't imagine being Charles, have to go to so many places, long processions, greeting so many people, shaking hands, when you're grieving and sometime just want to cry alone. So this frustration is understandable. At one point i worry about the his health.
Same thing here. He died in 2020 and I can't still bare his loss
I agree. All you want to do is to grieve in solitude yet people are coming and talking. It's so taxing emotionally and physically.
I’ve not been the same since finding out about my beloved war of 5 years but we’ve sorted things out now
I thought he could pass out during this process, he is 73!
i totally aunderstand you.. was in the same position
Imagine if he had real worries in life..
Freaking imagine. Would be unbearable:)
Imagine if all you had to worry about in life was a pen. 🖋️
I would be frustrated too if someone give me a leaked pen. Imagine trying to sign something important with leaks on your form? The staffs should check the pens before giving it to him.
Don't think it makes sense to blame the staff - he clearly wasn't getting annoyed at any person. Just getting annoyed at pens
They already have a royal pen checker......guess she's going to get the sack
Imagine how annoyed he is when his groomed child is late
Er hat sich den Stift aus seinem Jackett gezogen. Das Personal hat nichts falsch gemacht.
@@noban2730 that's Prince Andrew. Wish King Charles will kick Andrew out now that he is king and doesn't have to worry about his mother's health.
He's sleep deprived, surely, grieving, and has a ridiculous schedule. Little things that should work and not cause possible stains on clothing and skin are essential. No one has time to go get a new suit if the pen drips on it. He'll take a breath and feel better with a little tea.
That probably taxed his brain, first time he has ever done anything that required him to lift a finger.
Must be hard when you have everyone doing mostly everything for you, but you still have to write yourself
Hats off to Camilla as well: a calm and steady presence for Charles, but not above giving him a little cheeky correction ("you wrote the 12th on the other too.")
He's human, publicly having to get on with "duty" whilst grieving the loss of his mother. I went back to work 2 days after losing my father, got sent home after I broke down and couldn't continue with my job. So I salute King Charles III for his strength in continuing.
Long live the King!
he born to be king , that is not a option to choice .....
glad to see i am not the only one with a short fuse on serious mechanical malfunctions....
His Majesty just lost his mother, is grieving, and more than likely incredibly tired. I cannot blame him for being short with a leaky pen. Though he is our King, he too is human.
"his majesty" you grovelling git
Losing your mother is tough for anyone at any age, but even more so when she has been your rock for what seems like forever. Even for those of us who never had the pleasure of meeting her, she was a constant in an ever changing world. Add to the fact that he has to put on a brave face for his country and the rest of the world and carry out his duties in a kingly manner, we can only imagine what he has gone through these past week.
Lol... He's in his 70s he should have grown up
@@dgr8oneme Perhaps Dianna was right........

He's 73. Not 7
he could abdicate, that’ll take the stress off him
People forget The Queen had Charles at 23 and crowned at 25. She died 96 and Charles is in his 70's. Not just mother and child. They pretty much grew up together. Both learning on the job as they got older in Royal protocol. Lost his best friend/confident as well as his mother.
Most baby boomer parents gave birth in their early twenties. It was more common back then and earlier times.
He self admitted he wasn't that close to his mother and was mainly raised by nanny's. They really didn't grow up together
@@MrSleeplessnights maybe that’s true in the case of his childhood. However, after that you could definitely tell that they grew very close especially in the last years.
@Real Aiglon If you start this, be warned that it could take you a very long time to correct all the "greengrocer apostrophes". I rarely see the "s" in a plural unaccompanied by an apostrophe these days.
@@MrSleeplessnights Yes...She had two small children when her own father/king died...her children pretty much lost a mother..the UK gained a Queen.

his mother did it too but with more grace surely

The second video about his pen frustration.
It's so encouraging to see the King behaving in just exactly the same way I might, or that I recently observed one of my grandsons doing when his fountain pen leaked into his shirt cuffs. Humanity is the foundation of humility.

Who hands a leaky pen off to their wife? What's he expect Camilla to do with it? Something tells me William would do the same thing with Catherine.
He’s reacting…stress, loss. I feel for him, two years after the death of my oldest son, I still react to certain triggers. I’m am American and an Anglophile. My ancestry is Scottish. I love all things in the UK. I adore the royal family. They are a family, the grieve just like anyone else. What they were born into does not take away the loss they are feeling.
I have acted a lot worse over silly things out of stress and grief. We are all still human no matter our places in this world.
