  • Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School of Communication conducted a study putting participants into an fMRI machine, and watched their brains as the subjects viewed both straight news and segments with a comedic twist.

Authenticity and relatability, sure... comedy comes at the less guarded and skeptical parts of us. I also think there's just a welcoming sense of humanity behind it too. Obviously, anchors and reporters feel and have their own perspectives on issues and events, but comedians get to drive that little bit of absurdity and reasonable emotion that the networks don't.
That and reporters and anchors, and this is just my opinion, always sound like they're delivering news at gunpoint, and carefully adhering to the higher ups' narrative. Oliver, Stewart, Meyers, Noah, those guys feel like they're throwing their spitballs in SPITE of what the big wigs want the narrative to be. News TELLS you what's happening with the aim of leading perception, comedians point at what's happening with a grin and let you see the raw truth with your guard down.

Comedians settings the news agenda is bad, they have a habit of trivializing the topic when it actually might not be a trivial topic. Serious journalism is very much needed and can't be hoped to be replaced with jokes.

When you're laughing you're learning, harsh reality is a little less sharp served up with the har har har of a good belly laugh. Laughter is our only defense mechanism against the Horrors of our modern world. We may have to resort to ''BOO'' ing the Evil Doers in the streets to shame them out of power. Eyes Washington DC

News or rhetoric? Facts or opinion? What actually happened or a fairy tale.

If you only want to laugh at the expense of factual nuanced news, then late night shows are your go to destination.
