- A year after a deadly shooting at a private elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, lawmakers voted 68-28 in favor of a bill that would allow some teachers and staff to carry concealed handguns in schools.
Protesters gathered on Tuesday shouting “blood on your hands” at Tennessee House Republicans to express their disapproval.

You should see what columbine looks like now. Some schools already have armed teachers and security on school campuses for years without issue. There are plenty veterans that are teachers that would be more than happy to be able to protect students.

"Seem" is the key word in your response, and I do not know much about your nation, if you are in Europe, we have states bigger in size and population than most nations so hardly a good comparison. You may be a cold country where a good junk of the year people must remain indoors. Then your country may have one ethnic group unlike the USA, and your society may be more law abiding than the USA, and your country may invest more in police and prisons to keep your citizens safe than the USA does.
In the USA we have the spectacle of the exact same people wanting to disarm the population AND free all the criminals. THOSE are the people who should have to tell all the criminals that they want to be freed, that they are disarmed and just waiting to be a victim. The only way to get a socialist to see common sense is to give them exactly what they are asking for.

Many teachers in my county's schools are armed. The teachers take part in the monthly training with our local law enforcement. This is a very good thing!

There are a ton of requirements to carry in schools. The people who are upset probably couldn't pass those requirements.

Many teachers in my county's schools are armed. The teachers take part in the monthly training with our local law enforcement. This is a very good thing!

So a person who is already a teacher needs to pass a psychological test to carry a firearm. If they can’t pass that they shouldn’t be a teacher

If the teacher is willing, and trained, and continues to maintain their training, all for it. By the time the cops show up, and after Florida and Uvalde even some of the SRO's , and cops cant be counted on to to be expeditious.
Gun free zones are the most dangerous places to be. Kid Killers are cowards and would avoid schools where teachers can fight back to save your children.
What could possibly go wrong?
IF you trust the teacher to TEACH your child and tend too them daily for 8 hrs, THEN you may also consider the Teacher too have the tools available too him/her to DEFEND the LIFE of that child. Plain and simple. imo

as a person trained in firearms, here is the problem, to have a firearm to protect the children, their only job would be to have the firearm out and ready. Which means they would have to only play security, and not teach. If they are preoccupied in teaching, and someone enters with a firearm out, or has already pulled a firearm, unless the teacher has their firearm out and ready, they will most likely lose the battle, and their firearms could be taken.
If you want armed protection, you need someone who only job is being at a ready position with a firearm. I would have armed security at the doors, which would be a lot better that preventing a mass shooting, instead of someone in a classroom, that is preoccupied in doing something else.

You are assuming a kid will be a skilled shooter, as a 'person trained in firearms' you would know the average shooter cannot hit anything within 15 feet unless they take their time. If you believe the shooter knows which teachers have weapons, you are assuming a shooter would go there first. But why would they go there when it is possible they will get shot faster? You are also assuming there are no other teachers with a weapon that can respond in seconds versus police who will be there in minutes. You also want armed guards, which unlike the teachers, will be easily identified targets to get first. And they aren't walking around with weapons drawn or at a 'ready position' either so they will be in the same hypothetical situation your teachers are. And some of these schools are so big it may take minutes for a guard to get to the scene.

If you are in a robbery where they have a gun, unless they are already shooting, do not attempt to use yours, if they have their firearm out, you will not be able to draw, aim and fire, before they with their firearm being out and ready to aim and shot. Now that you brought up aiming, the said teacher would have to draw, aim at their target and fire, before the shooter, with a firearm out and ready can aim and shot. a shooter will take out their biggest threat first, which will be any adult, armed or not armed. It takes 1.8 seconds for the human body to react, so the person with a firearm out, already has 1.8 seconds, so now add, the person is busy doing something else, they have to quit doing what they were doing, then draw their firearm, aim and fire.
Yes they would be there with a tactical rifle, in a ready position, you know, like how the Military is in a combat zone, or like when small game hunting. Their only job is to neutralize a shooter, and nothing else. So yes, they would have a tactical rifle ready to use instantly.
I look at it this way. It will take police at least 5 minutes to get to the scene. A teacher is already there. If 2-3 teachers can keep the suspect pinned in a corner until police arrive, then it's worth arming them.

Every school I know of already has certain qualified armed staff. It's nothing new. I know someone who helps train these staff, but it isn't publicly known.

No one just flips that easily. The mindset takes time and slowly building then it snaps. If they are depressed or have mental issues they shouldn't be a teacher. Period. Also they have to go through mental checks as part of the bill. I get the feel no one even read the bill. They just hear "teachers carrying guns" and based their arguments on that alone.

How much training are these gun carrying teachers going to receive? What happens when a teacher wants to shoot at the intruder & accidentally shoots a student or another staff member? What law(s) are in place to cover up this severe accident? The police go through a rigorous follow-up, and many panels determine if it is a "clean" shooting or recklessness. Riddle me that Batman!

Did you listen to the video report? There are qualifications that this law requires. Not all teachers will meet these requirement nor choose to accept the responsibility of carrying a firearm in the school.
