I agree with everything you said, I like TOTK, but I feel like everything in TOTK it's just a worse version of BOTW, I honestly don't understand people that say the this game improves BOTW, when for me it's quite the opposite.
The shrines in BOTW were an actual puzzle, on TOTK they are just a "get to the end" challenge, they are usually very easy and that makes them kinda pointless.
The sidequests in BOTW were memorable, I remember saving the dragon on the mountain, or building Terrey Town, going to yiga clan for the first time or finding Kilton, the sidequests with the original location made the explanation great, on TOTK there is nothing actually memorable to find, every sidequest it's just simply helping an NPC or something like that, the world feels like a copy and past job everywhere.
The mechanics in BOTW were simple and effective, while in TOTK, they are complicated, ultrahand and fuse are fun ideas, but they always involve open the menu to do something, it's like the iron boots in Ocarina all over again.
Man, BOTW was such a great game, I actually replayed this year after TOTK, still feels a lot more polish then the new game, TOTK is fun, but man, what a downgrade.
    Anyway, great video.

One thing I hate hasn't got anything to do with the game itself. Its the fact that there are some genuinely good quality of life changes that are SO GOOD I can't image playing BOTW without them. I enjoyed BOTW way more than TOTK, but now if I go back to BOTW, some things will feel like they're missing...

This video made me realise that TOTK should've exclusively taken place in the past
They could reuse the map from BOTW with minor differences, like the addition of caves and dueling peaks not being split, but the player would experience new characters and locations
We could also learn about the Zonai firsthand, as our knowledge of the Sheikah who made the guardians and divine beasts is limited by the time difference between their creation and the events of BOTW
Also the story of TOTK is completely lost without collecting the memories, whereas BOTW's is only slightly hindered. Like you said in the video, we know what happened prior to BOTW and the memories are about zelda's character development. Why couldn't we have seen the events of TOTK's past firsthand?
When the master sword breaks in the intro, have both Zelda and Link be transported to the past, or Link alone and his job is to return to the present.
While the events of the past can't change the future, Link could still learn about Ganondorf, and perhaps find the location of the secret stones so that in the future he knows where they are (thus awakening the sages, and having the TOTK boss fights in the past)
The present events of this new TOTK could take place in small areas, such as the area from the opening of the game, and the final boss arena, without having to see the full map for the present
Also this way we avoid repeating the story of Zelda being locked away for years as she uses her light powers. Plus we could still have the sage story, but use the sages we see in game, rather than the companions of BOTW.
Have TOTK follow BOTW feels somewhat pointless anyway, as nobody remembers who you are and it implies you haven't visited any of the kingdoms or companions for a while
Most of the important locations in TOTK are just areas from the past being reopened in the present anyway, so just stick to them being in the past

I agree with you, I had a lot of complaints with the history that mi walkthrough felt kind of boring. I mostly finish the game to see it throught. But It lacks a lot of things that BOTW did right. BOTW was more exploration than story and dungeons and It was fine because you wake up in that new Hyrule. But in TOTK it feels plain to me, because I have already visited those places in BOTW. It's a "trash" sequel but it is a good game on its own.

I agree with much of this. I think a lot of people misunderstand that wanting a game to reach its potential and pointing out its flaws is a form of love for the franchise and not hate. There’s so much that could have been and unfortunatly that’s just not what we got even though it was still a blast to play

How i like to talk about the game is that its a 12/10 experience but a 6.5/10 sequel.
Heck age of calamity has a more engaging story, and wouldve been a better place to explore the world of hyrule with a unique lense.

I don't like Totk much either. It literally feels like a clone after leaving the tutorial area. They should've focused more on the depths and sky islands instead of dedicating more unnecessary time to the area we already explored, because both new areas are underbaked and look incredibly similar no matter which island you're on or which side of the depths you're on. They had SIX YEARS, I have no idea why the new areas are so underbaked and unexciting. Not only that, they really could've forced us to view the memories in the right order, it would've had to change the glyphs or method of acquisition, but acquiring the memories out of order really hurts the story, especially since they evidently wanted it to be more impactful.
Also, why on EARTH did they take away how BotW used the champion abilities? It is so obviously a terrible system to have you walk up to the sages and press A, in the MIDDLE OF BATTLE. It also crowds the screen. It wouldn't have been the end of the world to only have the avatars appear during combat if they REALLY wanted you to have companions that help you fight.

I played both, dont like both at all big empty repetetive shit. Only fun for a few hours. I own almost every Zelda game. IMO both games feel like gimmicky playgrounds instead of a Zelda game.. IMO Twilight princess is the last good 3D Zelda game. And if you compare BotW & TotK with OoT & MM it really tells you what a masterpiece Majora's Mask was with only devloped within a years time.

Lower frame rate, same cutscenes at every dungeon, abilities are objectively worse and using them is a chore, what’s not to love? The world is boring as someone who played botw, larger does not = better , and the depths is literally filler no matter how you twist it. But it has cool loot! You mean forced grind, and re-used assets? Remember you paid $70 for this.

I understand that the world feels bloated. But the way you phrase and talk about certain side quests and puzzles and rewards, it simply sounds like youre complaining for complainings sake. Theres numerous repetitive side quests in botw just like totk. Theres things locked behind side quests in both games as well. The rewards are not much better in botw. Its perfectly fine to have an opinion and bias, but at least be fair about how you paint both games

    • @Eramor
      @Eramor Год назад +1

I also have a complaint of why you say she decided to become a dragon with no risk involved, despite the fact that she is told numerous times throughout the story that it will drive her mad and she would no longer be the same, with little chance of returning to herself.
Not to mention that a major point of this game is discovery and uncovering things. A player wanting to know why Sonia was killed by ganondorf could potentially drive them to find the rest of the story. And in one of the first major sites you visit with impa, both the locations and the order can be found.
And while yes Zelda's character may be dynamic it is extremely flat and almost forced. Her dialogue for majority of the game feels lackluster. Supporting cast is not much better. Same can be said for totk. Again, you can have an opinion but leaving out the similarities to make one seem superior in certain aspects is not a fair critique

Of course both games share the same elements, Totk is Botw's sequel after all. And bad quest rewards becomes an issue when *every* side quest ends that way.
