Sorry for any mic peaking guys! Still working on getting used to recording with it. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any requests for analyses, I will add them to my spreadsheet! 😊
I'd like to suggest our boy Falco for an analysis to hear what you think of him. He may not have a lot of screen time, but he's quite interesting where he's the antithesis of Kiwi's "Never trust a soul in Night City".
@@remuvsTHATS A GREAT POINT! Love that! I will make a video for him after David’s mom. I literally keep forgetting about him, thank you for reminding me 🤣 my braiiiin ahhhh
The Pieta Pose is a standard trope for a lot of tragically ended charcaters. There's even a statue of Johnny Silverhand holding the body of Alt Cunningham in the same pose you can find online. In story, it represents the death of one considered "too good for this sinful earth" and heralds a darker future in their absence. So you nailed this interpretation and are the only I know of to catch it in these analysises.
The fact that this gang is structured so much like a family, with Dorio and Maine being the parents, Kiwi being like an aunt, and the others being the kids of the family, really makes it hurt more each time one of them dies, no matter how little screen time they had.
Dorio was among my top favorite characters in Edge Runners because of how grounded she was. She had an emotional depth to her even when she was setting her emotions aside. Really well done essay on her. Love your videos!
She really was the most level headed person in the group. Such a shame what happened to her. Thank you so so much for watching, and for your kind words ❤️
I liked your analysis for Dorio being the stabilizer in the story. In Dan Harmon's story circle, there is the phase that represents order and chaos that the hero needs to go through. Dorio wasn't just Maine's tether to sanity before going psycho or the mercenaries sanity but as her absense, it created imbalance in the void. Rebecca was allowed to be the strange loli that didn't think much about putting a gun in Davids face nonchalantly. It could be said she wanted to fill that role for David but ended up being his enabler for meds to keep his sanity knowing it was killing him and grasp on reality. While its true she just grew to like him more, but think we all like Rebecca because she was a volatile tank build in an adorable package and instead in her own way, failed at keeping David or the rest of the mercenaries together. Lucy i felt was more alienated after the loss of Dorio as she would have been more ideal to be David's tether but it seems like while they were in the same room, they were both not seeing eye to eye. in the next phase of the season when David takes command, its like the role Rebecca fills is wrong for her because she is supposed to be the hot head and its where she thrives but instead has to play mom and shes not good at it and can't even tell David how she feels or when to stop. She was an enabler and not a tether. One could say Kiwi who is a betrayer and opportunist, might have looked at the hand she was dealt and stayed loyal to if Dario was still alive. I mean she was with the crew for a while and choose to betray only after the events when David took over because shes never trusted anyone and when the team clearly was in a spiral, she choose to jump to save herself. these were feelings i had when i watched the show but you actually brought up the fact that she jokes with Pilar and protects Kiwi as well. These are things I didn't pay attention to but im sure forms the feeling i had when i think of the first act and the second act. So now I am thinking back, do you think Alt or Rogue was Johnny Silverhand's tether? Alt who saw him for more than a rocker gave him the conviction to be a terrorist. I see her as feeding into his ego even if he was being a self hating ass. She saw more to him then he did and maybe that was his driver to be more. Or was it Rogue, who actually was mostly angry at him for all the times he cheated on her or just called him out on his bs because Johnny was full of bs all the time. For example it looks like he mastermind the raid on Arasaka tower from his memories but we know the chip is damaged and Johnny is an unreliable narrator. In the official cyberpunk lore or side reading material in game, Morgan Blackhand was the one who got the nuke from Militech and it was his crew that ran the op. Morgan Blackhand was the leader and he even saved Johnny and Kerry Eurodyne from a kidnapping which began Johnny's involvement into being a freedom fighter though i can see in Johnny's mind, he was the center of the whole show. He has a big ego and maybe thats why V has such a high threshold before going cyber psycho. Seems like V has two minds and Johny's ego and self importance is massive enough to hold V together. Do you have thoughts on this? Does V have a tether? Panam and Judy are hot heads. Vick seems be an enabler who gives V all the implants he needs to die on his own terms while offering sage advice. Misty seems to want V to be at peace, take drugs and give in to Johnny taking over as the end nears. River was a side story. Takemura seems to still be loyal to Arasaka first and foremost. I didn't like how he comes to visit you, say that Honoko has already forgotten me, then tell me she wanted to send him to have him sign his rights away to become and engram. While i do save Takemura and like him, he is not trustworthy.
Excellent as always! You drew a comparison between Dorio/Maine and David/Lucy, but funny enough (as mentioned by another commenter) I actually see a bigger connection with Becca. While David might not love her back, she does still give everything she's got to make sure he stays sane, in nearly the exact same way Dorio does for Maine. And just like Dorio, blindly covering for the mistakes of the man she loves and trusts is what gets her killed in the end. I find it super interesting how the second half of the story mirrors the beginning in a lot of ways. I'm sure there's more connections to be drawn, but I'll leave that to the expert 😂 (future video maybe??)
I LOVE THIS COMMENT i feel like i need to redo my becca video to include this. But also... now i have a new thing for the overall analysis to cover... MWAHHAHAHA
She probably doesn't receive as much attention precisely because she fills in such a moderating role. I'll have to admit, she left the weakest impression on me among the secondary characters when I watched the series. This was a necessary and great analysis indeed. She was indeed the mother of the group that held them together, and things went downward after her departure.
I love Dorio so much! She's my second favorite character, next to Kiwi. Couldn't agree with you more, she's definitely the group's mom, and as much as Maine's loss is devastating, I think it's Dorio's loss that really spells the end of the group itself (even aside from her being the team's MedTech).
Definitely an underrated character, and a good video covering her. I would say that we can assume she’s a brawler become merc given that the girl boxing in the first heist was probably her sister. Also you are dead right- the moment Dorio died, Maine was doomed
Choomba! Thank you for this video, today has been a hell scape for me. I too LOVED visuals with Dorio's death I saw the same thing you did with the statue. Her whole arch is super rad! Knowing the cyberpunk lore that I do makes her fighting for Maine at the end all the WORSE. Cyber-Psychosis isn't an end all be all. Alot of people in that world dip in and out of psychosis super frequently! Like Johnny Silverhand, he has an alter ego with his psychosis its called the Hand. If you ever get a chance to look into the books so worth it! Speaking of books I have placed an order for yours! Thanks again for the video you're amazing! Have a great one.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really really appreciate the book order! Thank you very much for watching the video, and for the great comment. I would love to dive into the tabletop lore someday too.
Dorio was up with Becca as my favourite character. I feel like part of why she can be underrated is that the show tried to push too much into too few episodes making some bits of plot fly past like a dizzying kaleidoscope when it would have benefitted from pacing it out of a couple more episodes. Just look at Falco, he suddenly popped out of nowhere but was apparently a big part of the group.
Totally agree! I Read somewhere that they intended to have a lengthier plotline to flesh out the crew, but the runtime wouldn’t allow for it. Such a shame.
You know who I think would make a great video? Doc from Edgerunners. I think people always misjudge him in comparison to VIC (whos nearly a Saint)..but Doc actually tries to look out for David numerous times, and tries to warn him.. David just dosent take him seriously.
There is also overlap in characterization between David's mother and Dorio in their shared self-defined caring for others nature contrasted with the darker nature of their destroying others to save their own family literal and metaphorical.
I like to think Dorio and Maine met through the crew as she's obviously one of if maybe not the oldest member, and they both decided to in a way lead everything together... and they probably damn well knew they would go out in flmes... and flames they did... she was the "girl on fire" Video on an underrated character by an underrated channel btw I really like where you're heading
2:57 I would say that the warmth doesn’t cool after David’s takeover, it cools after Maine and Dorito’s death. David clearly tried to maintain that family like feel to some degree, and I think he only really failed to do that because Lucy wasn’t present, who would have maybe been able to do what Dorio did for the gang.
I feel like after her death you can start seeing the impact Dorio had with the crew as they started becoming more….i wanna say unhinged but that might be the wrong word
Very true! There's been a really good point made in the comments about how Becca sort of took Dorio's place as the group's rock, and, well... she IS unhinged XD
every crew needs a Dorio, even on the tabletop, and the same issues where other members try to fill the role when the team Dorio stops being a thing. id be curious to see if you can make a video on Pilar, dont know that there is a whole lot there but id be curious if you cant make him seem remotely compelling despite his obvious faults
I would like to try, Pilar seems like he'd be a real challenge. Just based on how little there is on him. Falco is even a bit easier, and he's in the show less. Hmm. I must put my thinking hat on.
Pretty sure she got shot by Maine, i like the idea that she just happens to get in the fireline of anyone else, but the neat little bullethole on her forehead is a hard hint at who did blow her brains out.
Sorry for any mic peaking guys! Still working on getting used to recording with it. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any requests for analyses, I will add them to my spreadsheet! 😊

Dorio realistically was the one to keep everything in check it’s sad how she stayed loyal to Maine till the end
Gotta wonder how different things could’ve been if she’d survived. Would’ve been interesting.
Hows having loyalty to a loved one sad?
@@bladehawk6823 Because it doomed her.
@@doombloomers9609 that's dramatic asf just watch who you trust

We'll miss Dorio, the group mom
Dorio is such a good character. Her death was tragic.
I need a woman like Dorio in my life, not even romantically
Be a person who is worth people like Dorio to invest into, if nothing else then be the change you wish to see.
