Ill admit, i was pretty lukewarm on becca at first. I didnt dislike her, she just seemed like another "harley quinn" esque tropey character. Then the scene with david hallucinating her as his mom came up, and the way she softened and decided to give him what he wants in what was assuredly his final moments sold me on her.
I always feel like people miss that the whole reason she modified her arms after her brother died is so that she would never feel powerless again. The shotgun she shot made her fly back and almost got her killed if not for kiwi. And then she can use whatever guns she wanted. Always thought it was a just a nice subtle way to show how she wasn’t content with being powerless
@@rapidoso2120 that’s why I wished there was like a spin off where we see these two in the past. Because I think to an extent Becca does care about him and he did too but we can’t see that because the story moves really fast and it would probably take too much time to include. We don’t know why Becca wanted to be the one to kill him, why she was so pissed when he did get killed if she seems to dislike him so much, and does she really see him as family? A spin off would answer these
The scene during the final episode when David's deep into psychosis and confuses her with his mom always kills me on any rewatch. It's just such a somber and heartfelt moment and so perfectly executed. The way she instantly calms down from screaming at him as soon as she realizes how far gone he is and the way she simply plays along with his illusions, knowing full well it's the most humane thing she can do in this situation. Becca knows that playing into his illusions isn't going to help fix the situation (as there is no fix) and you can clearly see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice. But she does it anyway because it's the only thing she can do for her friend. It always reminds me of holding your dog and talking to them while they're being put down and slowly fading, it's truly gutwrenching to witness.
That’s kinda the interesting thing about Smasher, he is also a cyberpsycho. It’s just that his ace in his corner isn’t that he has David’s drive or humanity, it’s that Adam is completely in tandem WITH his psychosis. He LIKES being a tank on legs, and he loves getting to kill whatever and whoever Arasaka gives the nod to. In the canon, at the bombing of Saka tower in 2020, he was standing on roof, shaking the nearly lifeless corpse of one of Silverhand’s crew as a taunt to try and get Morgan Blackhand to square up. He is a cold, heartless bastard and I love him for it.
I loved how quirky and off the walls she was and the scene showing her body still sends chills down my spine. I always pick up her Shotgun from Arasaka Tower this playthrough Rebecca gets Vengeance on Smashers Chromedome
Yeah that scene is awful. Seeing the life gone from her eye and her body mangled like that. The show doesn't have time to mourn her either. Fucked me up.
As soon as "Outsider No More" played at 4:58 I immediately choked up 😭. I'm with you 100% that Rebecca's death hit harder than the moon scene. Thank you for also pointing out that David essentially signed her up for a death sentence. He also ignored her pleas to chrome down despite the fact that she "puts her life in his hands, daily." Emotionally intelligent, loyal, fierce character. I love David but David didn't deserve Rebecca. She (alongside Falco) deserved to live and get out of Night City more than anyone else in the crew imo. Worst part is that she sacrificed everything for David but she didn't have anyone in her life who had that same love and dedication for her. Thanks for making this!
@@eventhorizon2264 thanks for sharing. Glad to know I'm not alone thinking Rebecca got the shit end of the stick. Last thing I'll say is that on top of all of what's been said already, her death had ZERO impact on the plot. Literally nothing would change about the ending if she got away with Falco. That really pissed me off, because it made her death feel cheap and purely for shock value.
Becca arguably does get the best. Out of all of them. She dies how she lived. Hard, fast, and full of passion. She went to the very end for the people she loved, and no doubt, in her mind. David was once again going to save her. It's all just another day in the office at this point. David will Sandevistan and grab her out of the way to safety, just like he always has. Like he did at the Bar, Like when Pilar was killed, Like he's done time and time again. At this point in the conflict, it really looks like David is winning again. He really is special. And sure, she's got Lucy to deal with, but hey. Job's done. David is clearly normal again, and with the job money, maybe he will Chrome down. Maybe with Lucy back, they will take it slow for a bit (Since Lucy ditching the gang is partly what made David Full send) and her little family will be having drinks at the bar in no time. Her life is immediately cut short, before she sees any of the Aftermath. Before she can even begin to process or witness any of the sorrow to come. She's in her Element, the serene little center to all the Chaos. David dies knowing he's let everyone down. Throwing a Hail Mary to at least give Lucy one last Hurrah, but he has to see just how hurt Lucy is that he's dying. Lucy lives on, and arguably has the worst ending. In that she's now all alone again, just like she was as a child, having the love of her life robbed from her, in part, by her own doing by helping him become a Runner in the first place. Not a lot is said for Falco, but since David paid him ahead of time, and told him the plan, he pretty much knew as the driver he had condemned them all to death. It must have been apparent that David never planned to make it out alive, and possibly even knew Becca wouldn't, and Falco now has to live with that weight.
Becca may be the best example of a supporting character. She was ride or die till the end, a legit true friend in place as straight up screwed as Night City.

Poor Becca…. I recently finished Edgerunners, after completing my first play through on Cyberpunk. Her death really took me off guard. It was so sudden and quick. Night City legend to the end though, and a true ride or die. She really deserved her own drink at the afterlife but only David got one. I really hope we can another season of Edgerunners! But maybe as like anthology of sorts? Like every season follows a whole new set of characters in the world of Cyberpunk. IMO it’s a little unfortunate that with the success of Edgerunners, they’ve decided to pursue live action adaptations of the Cyberpunk universe. The animated style was amazing and really captured the world of Cyberpunk near perfectly!
I love that psycho gun goblin. My head canon is she was goaded to join the Mox by Pilar, got chipped to look the way she did to retain a certain sick but lucrative clientele, and jumped at the chance to exit that trade when a slot opened up on Maine's crew. I think this is why she wanted to kill Pilar, for getting her into a life that hardened her. Thanks for giving us a little more time with her.
I wield Becca's shotgun GUTS in her honor whilst traversing the streets of Night City. It's by far my favorite shotgun and truly fits Rebecca's character as a loudmouthed gremlin (luckily the insane recoil can be managed through Cyberware).
Yo David my man, everything good. What's up choom. Becca I adora you, what a character and filled with life and a touch of madness, yes totally adorable as well.
I have always seen Becca as a sane person in an insane world. She is unapologetic for who she is and what she cares about, but she has only become a violent person due to her surroundings.
Totally agree! In the lore they dropped for the Edgerunners Mission Kit, they explain that she was really close to NOT becoming an Edgerunner in the first place. She had a big heart. Deserved better.
We should all be so lucky to have a friend like becca in this life. Loyal, truthful, and has our best interests at heart. Even the fact she has a spark of love for david is kept to herself because she doesnt want to fuck with him. With friends like that, what more could you ever need?
Been waiting a long time for someone to come along and go into stupid detail on each of the Edgerunners character lore. Must say, I have been loving your videos - look forward to seeing more, plus looks like Daisy won the lottery as far as the perfect family goes :)
I have to agree with the majority of the points made in this video. Becca was a beast, not scared of anything and fully committed to the cause of her family / gang, all the way up to the point that she knew it was a suicide mission. That degree of commitment and disregard for what people will say your intentions were, while being so far removed from the moments that truly display your motivations, is a rare gem of a characteristic to find in people, both fictional and real. Love the character and psychological analysis you’ve done here. Keep up the good work.
Night City seems like a place where people inevitably condemn themselves to Hell with their desperation to acquire personal gain and notoriety. It bless there’s something I’m missing.
1) Daisy is cute 2) I like that Rebecca's feelings for David aren't the only thing driving her. I also like that she is a badass, especially at the end.
Rebecca to David is like Rogue is to Johnny Silverhand. They would do anything for the men they love, no questions asked, even if their love are unrequited and it meant throwing their lives away in a suicide mission to rescue another girl that their men love or another person that has completely nothing to do with them. She's already a living legend in Night City that had everything in life: Stability, credibility, reputation, money, connections. She even owned Afterlife, the bar where legends and major league big time Mercenaries gather to exchange information for Gigs and jobs. She had absolutely no reason to help Johnny again after 50 years, because she had too much to lose. Yet she still came out of retirement, threw everything away and stormed Arasaka Tower with Johnny just to save V.
Agree so much with this take, but i get the side eye when i comment this to friends... great analysis, im enjoying a lot your edgerunners content, helped me a lot to put into words things about the characters that were in my mind but not that well articulated.
Aaaaaawe! As a fellow dog owner with a beloved pup named Daisy- DAISY’S RULE! God bless you for helping her. :) It’s also the #4 most common doggo name! :)
I never thought of Rebecca as the best girl for David but the best girl period the one you want by your side in that city the one thats the real catch thst you would appreciate back and do anything for the girl I would have chosen over Panam if she was still alive in the game
A bit of head cannon I have is that after her brother gets zero'ed, we don't see her for the next few episodes. Given how we know how Maine operated, through how David operates later. I fully expect that she was taking some time off to mourn him. Because that is the kind of thing that they would do.
I'm still a bit salty the Afterlife doesn't have a drink about her. sure, David also deserves his spot, but how many mercs can say that they've been killed by Smasher, and not an ounce of fear in them? her death may have not been bombastic, but she died like a true warrior.
It doesnt matter who is the best girl,Night City always wins. Gotta remember that to stay alive, forgeting this gets you killed,it happened to Silverhand,David's crew,Jackie and T-Bug,and even the famous legend killer Adam Smasher forgot that golden rule and got himself by a"puny"merc. Becca knew the rule, and tried her best to fight it but in the end its is what it is. Still a hell of ride,i'm grateful for Edgerunners,i didnt thought i needed more motives to destroy Smasher again and again but the series just renewed my link to the game itself
Becca passed quickly and didn't suffer, but I sure did. Never has fictional characters impacted me so much that I'd literally just insert her into any game I can with character creator so I can headcannon that she got isekaid into a better life. I'm on that much copium
Becca is like that tiny, cute, lovable girl in a group who's badass when she needs to be, loves seeing people smile when she's around and very much cares about people. This is why I like her.
It’s crazy just how skilled Rebecca is. She was so skilled with guns and can hold her own in combat, yet she barely had any cyberware or implants. That’s pretty impressive.
Becca is so much best girl, her death is the single reason I will never be able to rewatch Edgerunners, it was so brutal and saddening for me that it broke something in me, to watch such a sweet and loveable girl be killed by Smasher. At least I can make sure Smasher never hurts anyone else again thanks to V
Becca was my character from the show and as much as i knew she wasnt gonna make it through it still hurt when she was killed. I did an entire playthrough using only her shotgun because i couldnt bring myself to use another gun until smasher was dead.
Right after finishing the anime, i went for the memorials in the game. I knew they been there and I knew what they said. Becca's was the first I found and Gloria's the last, both of them made me crack
Oh my god I was like okay she's speaking in a softer way, okay. She explains the reason. Me: O.O oh my lord, bless your heart for rescuing Daisy!! Poor lil creature : (.
So in other words she's the best girl because she deserved the best. I wish I could put thoughts into words like this. So thanks for being the closest to expressing what runs through my head. Hope Daisy is doing well.
Aww thank you! I’m so sorry to say it, Daisy didn’t make it 😞 the abuse of her previous owners was too much. But before she passed, we located her siblings and parents at nearby shelters. She got to reunite with her brother sister before she passed, and was so happy to be back with them ❤️ she was a darling. Thank you for your kindness. ❤️
My only issue with Becca was that she didn’t take the hint and kept tryna flirt with David after he moves in with Lucy and their relationship gets serious to the extent of the pair getting a luxury apartment.
I love how the OP acts like that’s okay, too, but if Pilar was doing that to Lucy, you we’d have a 2-3 minute part about that. (I came from her Lucy video, where says Pilar sexually asssults Lucy.)
funfact: her final words in the german dub are "Jetzt regnet es auch noch Rosettenkasper" wich roughly translates to "and now it's raining ass clowns" wich i personally prefer over the english "boring" line.
Her decisions led her to where she was, and what happened. She knew she wasn't the main girl, she knew David loved Lucy. Why are people always bitter when A) sorry you aren't the one, and B) someone doesn't ruin their own expectations and happiness to meet yours....? This is a massive cultural issue....
I'm not really sure how your position is meaningfully different from the point you're trying to contradict (she should have lived vs she deserved to live) or how one could be "wrong" in saying that Becca was "best girl" considering that's a subjective evaluation. Nevertheless, its a good examination of the virtues of Becca and I think you explained and presented your position well, even if it also seems like a very strong argument for why she's best girl anyway 😜
Thank you for watching! 😄 Just rather than her being the best option for David, rather than just being a contrasting character for Lucy, she’s an individual character who stands strong without being written to orbit him. Edgerunners did an amazing job with all their characters, and it’s so refreshing to see that she, as a female character, was not written to require David as a crutch. I also just think her death really drives home who she is in how she handled her final moments. Strong and spunky until the very end, and a fitting end for her.
I think the point was structured the way it was because a lot of Rebecca fans build her up by tearing Lucy down. And it's really not fair to either of these incredibly nuanced characters. I see so many people love Rebecca because they misunderstand Lucy and blame her for everything, while saying that Rebecca was obviously the only good option for him. Especially in anime where its quite rare to see female characters be this complex romantically, not having the main female lead be more perfect and romantically available and not having the secondary chasing girl (childhood friend archetype) be acknowledged in a meaningful way and ending up squarely in the friend zone with no real wiggle room, without a constant teary eyed mellow-drama is very rare in Japanese media. So people inevitably end up misunderstanding the importance of Lucy to David, and also the real strengths and sacrifices of Rebecca.
Can someone explain what Becca meant by "make it up to you next time, k?!". I didn't understand the reaction of the man nor why this line is significant. I couched it as an idiom best understood in Japanese when I first saw this episode. 🤔
may sound cringe as hell but becca is as close to how i actually play the game as ive seen in any piece of video game media. shame she didnt have the ability to save and load cause you know she would play that moment back a million times until she wins
Cyberpunk has become some of my favorite fiction in the last year or two. I hope you do a video on Adam Smasher, or even Johnny Silverhand. I hope also lil' Daisy is forgetting whatever fears or anxieties she felt before being found by you.
Rebecca deserved better than David like Dorio deserved better than Maine. They were both truly ride-or-die and cared more about those men than they cared about themselves.
I would love a mod that changes the story so Becca and Jackie live and are part of your crew til the end. I know that would make the story less good and impactful but I'm just way too attached to the characters.
Daisy is the true best girl
YES SHE IS
"Becca wasn't best girl"
*Grabs pitchfork*
"She deserved even better than David"
*Lowers pitchfork* "Go on..."
I had a similar reaction.
However, I'm American so I was reaching for my AR-15 instead. Becca would be proud. 😂
Becca's loyalty is worth more than all the eddies in Night City

Aaaaaawe! As a fellow dog owner with a beloved pup named Daisy- DAISY’S RULE!
God bless you for helping her. :)
It’s also the #4 most common doggo name! :)
I just binged 5 of your videos. You are a great storyteller! Thank you!
I never thought of Rebecca as the best girl for David but the best girl period the one you want by your side in that city the one thats the real catch thst you would appreciate back and do anything for the girl I would have chosen over Panam if she was still alive in the game
I shed tears when Rebecca died.
A bit of head cannon I have is that after her brother gets zero'ed, we don't see her for the next few episodes.
Given how we know how Maine operated, through how David operates later. I fully expect that she was taking some time off to mourn him. Because that is the kind of thing that they would do.
Man so many good characters killed
Great video!
I'm still a bit salty the Afterlife doesn't have a drink about her. sure, David also deserves his spot, but how many mercs can say that they've been killed by Smasher, and not an ounce of fear in them? her death may have not been bombastic, but she died like a true warrior.
She deserved to live. Her going shocked me.
becca was easily my favorite character in the show.
Becca is the girl every guy wants...the fesrless ride or die shortstack.
Then theres Dorio...Id love to see more on her.
becca was the goat, simple as that. also it still hurts seeing her die
it was a mistake to watch this video drunk... couldn't stop crying... 50 percent of the time I'm a laughing drunk but seeing sad shit makes me cry...
You just knew she was gonna die when they replay it 3 times.
Now that you say it out loud... yea.. she did deserve better... *subs*
were you expecting a happier ending?
here?
for folks like us?
wrong city.
wrong people...
I have to stop this video otherwise I'm going to indulge in this series and skip studying. Great content!
Aww thanks! 😊
Becca is like that tiny, cute, lovable girl in a group who's badass when she needs to be, loves seeing people smile when she's around and very much cares about people.
This is why I like her.
I love your points about Becca. You have a new subscriber and active one too. You have realy nice voice and good narrative style. :)
Thank you so much! 😄
It's my pleasure really. ^.-
It’s crazy just how skilled Rebecca is.
The ONLY person who I think could of killed Becca was smasher
Not crying.
Not crying not crying not crying
NOT CRYING
At some point i realized that becca would die, and i had to pause the show for 2 days i didnt want to see it
This was a great video! Wow
Becca was my fave.
Oh my god I was like okay she's speaking in a softer way, okay. She explains the reason.
Me: O.O oh my lord, bless your heart for rescuing Daisy!! Poor lil creature : (.
The moment you know David was loosing himself, was freaking gut wrenching
Before: Adam Smasher
After: Adam Smash'er
well since her brother died her only focus now is David. her action speaks a lot
great video. Becca was my fav and i was blissfully ignorant to the possibility of Adam.... smashing...
Her death was the one that upset me the most!
So in other words she's the best girl because she deserved the best. I wish I could put thoughts into words like this. So thanks for being the closest to expressing what runs through my head. Hope Daisy is doing well.
She's my favorite character from this show
perfect tribute to best girl
Why do I feel Like I watched this video before.
Hopefully she gets more tribute in the sequel game
Fantastic video. Also hope little Daisy is doing ok 😊
@@lydiscott that is heartbreaking, I am so sorry to hear that. You did good giving her a good home while she was alive
@@lydiscott I’m so sorry. That’s a really wonderful thing you did for her tho . 😊
You’re an amazing person. You clearly love your animals very much. 😊
gotta love ride or dies
My only issue with Becca was that she didn’t take the hint and kept tryna flirt with David after he moves in with Lucy and their relationship gets serious to the extent of the pair getting a luxury apartment.
I love how the OP acts like that’s okay, too, but if Pilar was doing that to Lucy, you we’d have a 2-3 minute part about that.
(I came from her Lucy video, where says Pilar sexually asssults Lucy.)
@@JosephMichael23 what are u saying? Who’s OP? I’m confused
Yep, The emotional damage is still there.
Still best girl for me ❤💙
I knew for the first death everyone will die except for either the two main characters
funfact: her final words in the german dub are "Jetzt regnet es auch noch Rosettenkasper" wich roughly translates to "and now it's raining ass clowns" wich i personally prefer over the english "boring" line.
Yeah well-
Mu copium In some timeline shes with david they are safe
She deserved better but I'd still ship it for a two-week trip
"Becca's not the best girl"
proceeds to explain why she's best girl
may sound cringe as hell but becca is as close to how i actually play the game as ive seen in any piece of video game media. shame she didnt have the ability to save and load cause you know she would play that moment back a million times until she wins
Cyberpunk has become some of my favorite fiction in the last year or two. I hope you do a video on Adam Smasher, or even Johnny Silverhand. I hope also lil' Daisy is forgetting whatever fears or anxieties she felt before being found by you.
just because she is best girl, does not mean she should be the main ship.
Kinda off point but you can find Becca's shotgun in the game and it's really strong
Becca and Kiwi deserved better. Both girls were my favorite.
Not best girl. Just the best. That scene with David at the depth of cyberpsychosis just unzips me.
Rebecca deserved better than David like Dorio deserved better than Maine. They were both truly ride-or-die and cared more about those men than they cared about themselves.
Your understanding of "Best Girl" is unorthodox, but you say she deserves the best and that's enough for me, I guess
I would love a mod that changes the story so Becca and Jackie live and are part of your crew til the end. I know that would make the story less good and impactful but I'm just way too attached to the characters.
