It's basically what we got. The game comes out its fucked. Everybody makes fun of it and then everybody forgets. Now anime comes out and cyberpunk got new DLC and game is finally fished.
My only disappointment with this anime is that its only ten episodes, however they still made it work. Love this studio. edit: damn fellas, thanks for all the likes. Glad a lot of you folks agree with me :)
@@itsspookie my reasoning for complaining about only 10 episodes is because, as Charlie points out, it feels like theres so much trying to be told to us in just only 10 episodes. Usually you’d see like 24 episodes from Studio TRIGGER which is why I was a little taken aback when I found out it was only 10 episodes. Still though, great anime.
@@itsspookie No not really, Nothing wrong with more quantity. Just requires proper preparation and willingness to truly take it that far. Problem comes from greed, and cutting corners. Plenty of long quality shows. Just depends if they are willing to do so at this level, and if they have proper preparations for it such as money, time, manpower, and so on. They rushed this story to the end of this storyline, but it wouldn't be terrible to have seasons covering different stories. Plenty that can be told about in this setting/universe.
@@itsspookie not really. In 10 episodes we experience David's mom's death, half of the crew dying, David chroming up and becoming their leader, Lucy and David's relationship grow and many more things. All of that in 10 episodes. It was a bit rushed. Calling It perfect its just ridiculous

I think we’ve all been David at some point in our lives. Whether it’s the David that knew he’d never be a ‘Saka, the David that wanted to make his mom proud, the David that wanted to make Maine’s dreams come true, and the David that wanted to make Lucy’s dreams come true, I think we can all find ourselves in David’s story. It’s why this show is so powerful. One time, just one, we end up on the receiving end of something bad and out of our hands and it shakes to the core our entire life path. I’ve bawled my eyes out watching this show, because I’ve been in that spot where you want to throw everything you learned out the window in order to survive and it’s just a lot of pain. And if I ever, ever lost my mom the way he did, I would probably snap like that too, I would literally fulfill my dream of being a merc/pi
@@OppositeOfMute last episode did it for me, yeah. Episode 6 made me really sad too, but I was bawling after episode 10. Spoiler warning ahead for those who need it but a certain scene between Rebecca and David, where he’s going through the cyberpsychosis and speaks to his mother but it’s Rebecca with him… That got me. Then the show went “aye, you want more? You wanna cry MORE?”
I think if they made the season 15 episodes it would've been perfect. Like, just letting it breath a little bit more would've fixed pretty much every problem I had with it. Like, honestly, Maine's descent into cyberpsychosis would have been a lot better if it wasn't effectively contained within one episode. And we could've gotten more of the rest of the crew. Flesh out the relationships between them a bit more, have Pilar bond with David beyond a montage of them hanging out which makes his sudden death even more shocking, maybe show is what happened with Rebecca, how she basically quit the gang before returning at some point over the time skip and how they happened, etc.
Maine definitely needed even just 1 exrea episode, I definitely feel like his arc was just way too fast. It got the point across, but I really liked his character and wanted to see more.
I agree with you and I feel like one more thing that was rushed was Lucys relationship with David, I expected them to be togheter but it just happend too fast to feel like they actually are in love
I just finished watching Edgerunners now, and while I do think that stretching the show has a bit of merit, I want to push back slightly on the Maine topic, as I talked about this with my girlfriend after the episode. Part of Maine's issues were foreshadowed in previous episodes; in the most recent 2 prior to 6, he had issues with his arm gun jamming out during important moments. Additionally, he wasn't shy about being someone who was into chrome and into pushing others into getting chrome, which he straight up tells David in episode 4 iirc. So while I would have liked for more backstory in a different episode, I wouldn't say it's fully self-contained. And overall I think that the show being short adds to its themes, whereas the show being longer would allow for a bit more shoring up of the weaker points. Win-win, and I still love the product we got out.
@@Cabral978 Indeed. After their big moment on the rooftops, where it supposedly cements them as a couple, they just kinda... Don't anymore? They immediately go back to acting just as colleagues. There's no chemistry or romantic/sexual tension (not even when they're freaking NAKED in their apartment). It's almost like they're just friends that are comfortable with being around each other. Even when Lucy's confessing how she really wanted to protect him (in that scene by the fence), there's not a hint of romance there. It's like the writers remembered they're supposed to be in love at the last episode, because it's only in that last scene of them together, where they're falling from Arasaka, that it feels like they're a couple. Like, it didn't need to be this amazing romance anime, but they really dropped the ball during the later half. The first half, where David is starting out, and has to impress Lucy, leading up to the climax of them kissing, will always have a special place in my heart, because it's the absolute best of the anime, imo.
4:30 This cliche actually makes more sense in the context of the show because of how insanely expensive everything is, within the first episode you see how everything is just debt, debt, debt and even more debt.
This show really hit at home the characters all felt like they had true relationships between each other. I personally really enjoyed the father and son relation ship with David and Maine. I’m not much of a cryer during shows or movies however by the end of the 10 episodes seeing the way everyone needed up dead except Lucy really made me get in the feels. I got a sinking feeling in my heart and my eyes started to tear up a bit
“Too much in too little time” you say. I believe it is purposeful this is a cyberpunk world where like the real world they pause for more and more for results, they constantly move they bombard themselves with new information all day every day it is fitting for such a story to essentially be bombarding the sensations.
Watch the show from episodes 1-6 and then take a break, a few days or a week and then finish the show. Episodes 7-10 feels like a season two of sorts. The climax of the story will hit a lot better if you wait a little bit in between the two arcs of the story
yeah, my biggest problem with the show was how short it was, like charlie said, it seemed like they wanted to tell a longer story with how much information and world building they jammed into episode 1 alone, they shouldve given the studio a chance to do it they shouldve made the show atleast 20 episodes long since david and his moms story alone was worth atleast 3 episodes and we only got it at 1, also maine, since his psychosis we got glimpses of suggested backstory but thats just that, "suggested backstory"
I hope these video game to animated series because more common. Arcane and Edgerunners are amazing so far. It’s so easy conceptually as well, you have such a big foundation to build off of already from an actual video game, all you gotta do is bring it to TV.
To be fair, after i finished it, I instantly thought the show's fast pacing was to mimic David and his sandy. He literally lived too fast, zooming past everything that could've changed the end result.
or its the life of an edgerunner when david starts out the scenes in the show are colorful, bombastic even quick fast scenes as david learns the ropes, drive, gets chats from Maine, training from Lucy edgerunners live fast and die faster
Better yet is how every episode feels like a single gig or side mission in the game. This was clearly written by somebody who was immersed with the videogame.
My favorite part about the show is that you know exactly where the story is going, they make it pretty obvious, and yet the whole time you root for things NOT to pan out like that. It's great!
@@shanecolby547 trueee, no better way to describe it, you know bad shit’s gonna happen, all the signs are there, yet you’re still coping and hoping that it doesn’t happen when it was already pretty much set in stone
Yeah the into literally shows david getting shot in the head at the end. Despite that it was actually not as depressing as I thought because David died happy and in the end was still human. He died with a smile.
@@proteusblack8913 He was saying that the plot of the story was obviously crunched and only 1 season wasn't enough to explain everything. And I agree because I saw it too. Needed a second season.
@@Lustie if I remember right there’s a drink at the bar where you get your first big gig with Jackie named after the main character of the anime that’s been there since day 1 so that’s a cool detail
The whole cyberpsychosis plotline is fucking phenomenal. It hits every single note, especially if you or someone you know has ever struggled with addiction.
@@Relco12 I say addiction because the things Maine and David say while on the brink of Cyberpsychosis remind me a lot of the things an addict would say. "I made it this far. No way I downgrade now." "I guess I'm just built different. It has no effect on me"
The scene when David and Lucy share time alone on the moon in the BD was the first time in YEARS I've ever actually felt invested in a romance plot. I felt it. And when she grabs him by the face and tells him not to die on her... I usually never care about romance arcs at all but this one felt so real and natural and David feels like he could be any one of us. Slightly goofy, lost and confused, rebellious in nature and deeply cares for the people around him.
Deeply caring about other people was David's biggest flaw in my opinion. He cared so much that he forgot he was losing himself and was over-chroming, over-working, and going more numb. In the end, we know what happens to as he only lived for others and not for himself. Not even a bit.
Same! It’s been forever since I was emotionally invested in a fictional relationship whether it be in a book or in a show! It broke my heart to see Lucy on the moon all alone
@@jatinchanchlani8982 I can definitely see it as a flaw....but it was also the thing that was his biggest strength and kept him going as long as he did. Empathy, love, caring....this is what made David 'special' in regards to Cyberpsychosis. He had the HUMANITY to handle much more then your average person in Night City....because he had empathy beyond what is commonly found in the world of Cyberpunk. Ultimately, it was the double edged sword for him. He cared so much about those around him that he forgot to care about himself at times....
@@weeboftheleft5113 Thanks to that he becomes NC legends. they all pay a price . The moment he said to Lucy " I am nothing , I got nothing left except you , All I ever want was to see your dream come true " , I know this dude have never lived for himself a single day
This one really left me with the post "good show" depression for sure. It really left me wanting more despite knowing there really isn't much left to give. I just love the characters so much... Just a very heartbreaking story like the game itself which is why I have a hard time going back to it. Regardless of how good it has gotten, the story is just too depressing.
Exactly cyberpunk themed story’s always have interesting and cool environments and setting but also have so much nihilism which sucks for a guy like me who loves those satisfying happy endings that make you pump your fist in the air
this show made me cry. such an amazing anime, the idea of how they told such a tragic and happy story in just a 10 episode show is god tier. they definitely have done the best of the best with it.
The concept on how they made you like the characters only to lose them so fast reminds me of Halo Reach which only took me three hours when I played slow
Something I loved is how they used the same UI elements and sound effects straight from the game. It makes Cyberpunk 2077 feel more fleshed out and believable

The ending genuinely brought me to tears. The relationships developed between the characters in just 10 episodes was amazing to watch and it made the ending all the more emotional.
Legit man I haven’t felt anything watching a tv show for ages, this was like living in darkness for ten years and then letting off two flash bang grenades in your face. I will struggle not to cry hearing “I wanna stay at your house”
Bruh the show was amazing but i felt like the ending was horrible, david had no good reason to just die, no real satisfying conclusion except to save Lucy. The battle with adam sucked too, he just got wrecked while running away trying to save lucy. Not hating on the show but the ending really could've been better
What i don't get is why david kept saying he has nothing left when he literally spedran his whole life after maine died by maxing out on implants and going cyberpsycho for no real reason, feels like maine and davids mom died in vain
@@dudewhy3287 He didn't speedrun his life. More, it was that his career as a Edgerunner ended that fast. Keep in mind this is all within a single year. When you become a Edgerunner, you don't become a legend by how you lived, but by how you died. It's because you never last long as one. And David really did have nothing left, his first family died, and his second family also died. And he was suffering from Cyberpsychosis from all the implants he had. Even if he didn't have them, he would've eventually succumbed to it, that's how dangerous the Sandevistan was for David's mind. And throughout the show, David never really had a dream of his own, and until the very end, he fulfilled the dream of somebody else. He went to the top of the Arasaka tower, just like what his mother wanted, he went even further than Maine and became known as a legend and has a drink named after him in the Afterlife, and Lucy went to the moon because of him. In the end, David had nothing, but he could fulfill what others wanted.
Idk if you’ve ever seen the show called “angel beats” but I’d equate the ending similarly. Now personally “Angle beats” ripped my chest out on the emotional front on how it all played out compared to this. But frankly got the same vibe and it came off more joyous then anything.
Thanks to Charlie, Now I have severe PTSD to some neon lights, crowded people, some big buildings with monorail trains and dirty slump. Litteraly I have some issues like heavy breathing, panic attack, sweating and tremor after seeing something that make me remember this anime. I even stopped watching to episode 7 after David got the job from "Gus Fring". They not giving us time to breath to calm before another tragedy happen. They only show us some "coping" moments not really a time for rest to all the chaos happened before. Thats too realistic to be honest. Thats kinda to much for me. Damn if I have a strong mental like the others, I could enjoy it like you guys 😓
@@Thistasteslikeass It probably could've used more episodes. Ultimately I think it did good for what it is. Would've preferred more time seeing david being more of a cyberpunk before he started to deteriorate or just see how the world treated him differently at that stage compared to how he started out. We saw glimpses but very minimal.
Holy Jesus on fucking roller skates this show slaps. I’m not particularly emotional about anything usually, but this anime made me cry. They made the characters beautifully, and made me care about them in only ten episodes. When the only bad thing about a show is that it’s too short, you know it’s a masterpiece
I personally think the show is great where it ended. Could’ve definitely had more episodes to make sure that everything wasn’t jam packed but I like it anyway. Only thing I want is WHAT HAPPENS TO LUCY.
@@Days-ru8jh for real man. I wanna know what happened to her after the ending. Ugh, feel so bad for her. Lost everyone she loved and considered family.
Honestly the deadpan, numb and indifferent delivery of what happens to his Mom was one of the aspects of the setting that made me audibly go "jesus christ." It just gets fucking dropped on you and everything about it has been commodified and made completely soulless and its terrifying on a societal level
I kinda like the fact how pretty realistic it was, not alot of dramatization and just went "f*ck it, you're going in for this ride in a blink of an eye". Just like actual accidental deaths of a loved one, it's sudden, you expect them to turn out fine only to find out they're gone and you process all of that for the rest of the week. The only way it could be more impactful is if we got to see tiny bit more of David and his relationship with his mom alot more but the show made up for it by showing David still unable to move on from her death, literally broke his schoolmate's nose for insulting his mother after her death, having hesitations to kill at first as she sees glimpses of her face, him losing his mind throughout the trauma, killing a woman who had a son and deeply regretting as he basically made that child to possibly end up like him and speaking to himself about her when he's at the top of Arasaka. Establishing how heavy his relationship he has with his mom.
That’s all of Night City though. It’s all this stuff that you audibly say, “society would never let this happen,” but as you play the game you kinda start to realize that a lot of this stuff is already happening
Watched the whole season. All I can say is, I want more, and it made me wanna play the game again too. I really wouldn't mind entire seasons dedicated to different characters if they were comparable to this one, even if (spoilers) it was as tragic as this one.
Despite the tragic launch State of cp2077 it is 100% worth a playthrough, its one of the most soulful games of the last decade and a blast if you give it a chance!
The fact they brought back Keanu is a good sign imo. Silverhand was a great character imo. I do wonder if the dlc is like a side story or a continuation of one of the endings.
Edgerunners was absolutely the best marketing choice for the game they could've ever made. As an anime of its own, its a 9/10, as an advertisement, its perfect. Great story, great characters, leaves you wanting more, is set 1 year before the game, they make an edgerunners update in the game and so on. I'm gonna buy the game, and I wasn't even considering it before watching the anime.
If you thought the ending to edgerunners was heartbreaking, wait till you experience your first ending you've worked so hard for, it'll hit so much harder bro 😂
For me it was the opposite, i played the entirety of CP2077's story before watching the anime, and the game looks like literal garbage next to the anime.
You say cliche I say hyperrealistic mother son conversation. I think studio trigger gets the mundane to such a great extent that it can cross over to almost boring to watch. It doesn’t make for the most entertaining set pieces, but it does make for some of the most relatable and heartbreaking payoffs
Same the mom school thing kind of hit hard for me since it kind of reminds me of my relationship with my parents. Immigrant parents working hard so their son can have a future and be successful
would be straight up incredible if they just did MORE cyberpunk shows. not even connected to david and lucy's stories. just revisit the universe. do it all over again, but next time, do it long and go just as hard on a whole new group of netrunners and mercs. makes us love them, then break our hearts again as they cut their way through the nightmare of night city.
I'd love to see adam smaher's story, there's gotta be more than what we know. Could be a good chance to explore the megacorp wars, I feel like he is someone who lost everything and became a corporate dog bc of it
It would be an awesome show if it followed each faction. Maybe a nomad, corpo, street kid set up but also there's so many gangs with awesome lore. There's even room to explore Johnny's era when Santiago Aldecaldo was around.

The only thing I wish I had is more backstory for Maine, I was already crying during his scene but if we had more explanation on his backstory I feel like I wouldnt be able to stop crying.
****spoiler****I think a lot can be inferred from his psychosis. He was a fail marathon runner which led him to his obsession of cyber modifications. Probably led him to realise that the Merc business was easy with his enhanced body.
honestly I liked the subtlety, the psychosis flashbacks to the desert and him without his augments, the throne of wood. We aren't meant to know everyones story, but the flashes of Maine's that were shown were enough to show he had a life.
@ekremslayer3389 true, they don't really mention it in the game but V runs really high tech with no issues I guess the bio chip helps with that but also the combat kinda limits it
If you're wondering why you got a REDLINE hit from Edgerunners, it's because it's directed by Hiroyuki, one of the key animators from REDLINE. Absolute gigachad director
@@Navefreamo Castlevania was more like an actual Adaptation. Whereas both Arcane and Edgerunners are Original Stories. It's more distant, than similar to each other.
i mean, it's just 'cyberpunk franchise'. there's like 3 ttrpg settings that takes place before 2077 and edgerunners, but i get what you mean. both are great stories, adds 2 notches to cdpr's writing rifle, and in the end that's what stands out the most.
True, it is depressing. But the constant reminders of a world in decline and the contrast between these radically awesome, convenient technologies that allow humanity to transcend beyond our frail yoke, and the dark, twisted malice hiding behind their shiny veneer are what give the stories of Night City such tangibility. In real life things are never so convenient, and David's story is a stark reminder of this. He thought the Sandevistan was meant for him. That he wouldn't suffer the same drawback as anyone else simply because he was born different. Honestly, I personally think the reason why David was so in tune with the Sandevistan was because he had the perfect set of circumstances. He watched a Braindance where his mind was aligned with that of the previous owner. Coupled with him already being a straight A student at one of the most prestigious schools (meaning he already possesses an exceptional mind) it gave him exceptional control over the Sandevistan. But his body and mind are still human. He was never born different. He just got lucky, and his luck ran out.
@@Padlock_Steve ?? Still on that bandwagon? Game was amazing. Story's great. Characters are great. Combat was lacking, but serviceable. Upgrade system was okay. The only major downside was the bugs and glitches, which I personally had very few of, being on PC.
Even though the mom cliché is cliché, it hits different for those of us that grew up with not-so-present fathers. Seeing your mom rough it out for you growing up marks you in a specific way, and I think that David's struggle surrounding that throughout the years really encapsulates that.
I grew up in a Hispanic family and it's quite realistic. I haven’t got this situation if I can remember cause my parents have sustainable wages. Not everyone can live perfectly
Yeah I can relate to that, I got lucky and my parents managed to land better jobs and eventually spend more time with me but I remember as a kid back in Colombia I was lucky if I managed to spend an hour of free time bonding with them on average
Fun fact: it's all canon and the ending takes place a year before the game. They even added a short quest that ties into the show and a handful of Easter eggs
Indeed. Frankly, it existing at all was a small marvel to me. Cyberpunk and Shadowrun type stories are not exactly known for upstanding family values, making the inclusion here more odd than most of the things that happened later on.
I also like how it represented how deep his mom's death hit him in the end since he never really sat down and grieved and it showed with the cyberphycosis
Unironically, I want them to keep this series. Ik it's just promotion for the game but I unironically believe that this could take off and offer CD red some serious oppurtunities.
The show hits much harder if you know the lore and the story behind cyberpunk. The amount of detail and easter eggs not only cameos but just answers to so many questions and secrets we have been given here is just jaw-dropping. And it really feels like the expansion to the in-game quest about David.
Yeeep, sad af man, why can't these bros get their happy ending with their girls ? I get it nihilism and shit of cyberpunk, still wish it didn't have to end that way.
Facts, when they brought in Adam Smasher, my jaw dropped in fear, cause he gave me a hard time in the game, so I was expecting an epic fight. And oh it went above and beyon
I love how colorful edgerunners is, it really feel like you're in a post apocalyptic slum like a futuristic downtown LA. Netflix has some anime that are absolute bangers and Edgerunners is one of them
That talk with his mum hits different when you're a hispanic kid who had a similar upbringing to the protagonist David. I remember having those same conversations with my mama whenever I did somethin stupid like get in a fight at school or skip/ditch class. Also, he has an awesome last name.
Yeah for kids with immigrant families it hit hard. I can definitely see why it’s a weaker side to the story though that they never fully fleshed out Gloria’s character and her relationship with David

Rebecca was unquestionably best girl of the series. She was a true ride or die for David she even died with him and brought him back from the verge of going full cyberpsycho. It was hearbreaking how unceremonious her death was but nonetheless she went out like a champ and at least died with her best friend
The show leaves you wanting more. The show leaves you feeling sad (but in a good way). It's one of those rare shows that leaves you feeling empty once it's over. Leaving you desperate to find a new show to fill the void
Charlie is wrong saying that "people don't talk like that" when he's talking about David's mom dialogue. She sounds like she's using the exact script verbatim that every Mexican mother whips out when they blackout rant at their "hijos malcriados" for daring to say "What?" instead of "Mande?" when they're called.
Ikr, whenever I say something that my mother doesn't like she always gone on the "Hijo, por favor" rant. It's also funny/weird that I share the same Name and Last Name with David
Agreed. I had a very similar talk with my mom coming out of high school only just last year so that made the scene feel a bit more impactful to me. That being said, I understand where the critique comes from, but that example fell flat for me lol
Many of the songs in the show are from the game, so soundtrack does indeed slap. And I agree, needed more episodes. Either 12 or go even further and slow things a bit and aim for 24 episodes.
Some could potentially disagree, but I think the show being rather short kind of adds to the themes of the show. The events seem so big, but they are such a inconsequential blip in the bigger world. The issues that the characters in this show have only exist for them and the entire rest of the world, and even the entire rest of the city, don't know this is happening. They aren't special, even though their story has a lot of personal and emotionally charged plotlines. They hyped up David and the story for so long, but at the end of the day, no matter how special they are, the weight of the world just comes crashing down and you'll never be able to stop that. At the end of the day, Lucy is on the moon, by herself, with all these people around her who never know what David had to sacrifice for her to get there and they never will know.
Ngl , i saw it coming tho. Like how did he expect to beat someone who’s working with people who made what he is wearing? Adam had to have way higher tech and even things no one else has. And his new suit was sooo bulky
I really like Adam's character even though we didn't get much of him. I feel like him killing a certain character in the end was a sign of respect and mercy for said character because he probably didn't want them to be a fully loaded slave to a Corp. That's just me, though
The way they portrayed him in the show was so cool since you already understood what's gonna happen to David the moment he shows up. Hoping they feature him more in other animated works since my only memory of him before watching the show was a gameplay vid of him getting beaten to death with a dildo.
The draw of David is he's all heart, he wants to trust people and have them trust him. It really stands out in a story, in a world so rife with materialist betrayal.
@@delmanpronto9374 They could have. But one of the major points behind the Characters, was that their Past isn't as important as what's happening at the time. So there was really no need to do that.
David's arc in this show is so sick. Night City is a raging storm in the middle of the ocean and David was dragged under when his mother passed away, he was done. When he finds Lucy, someone else who is holding on to this lifeline, her dream, the only thing he can think of is to either drown or take hold of her lifeline as well. Every scene in the show just hammers in the idea that being a good person in Night city gets you killed, I think even David knew from the moment he installed the sandevistan that he had played his hand. Yet he raged against the whole fucked up system, he gave everything he had to try and be someone better. And he failed. He gave up his body piece by piece to implants, he gave up his mind, and still he burnt out before he could reach the finish line. But he still had that lifeline, he wasn't strong enough to pull himself onto shore, so he looked to Lucy beside him and gave her a push. Want to achieve your dreams in Night City? Learn to climb over the corpses of your loved ones. Fucking nova.
David is a standard studio trigger plucky protagonist stuck in a tragedy. A rebel in a world where the underdogs get snuffed out. He was born with almost inhuman aptitude for cybernetics and had access to military grade shit from the get go, and it still wasn't enough to save him from cyberpsychosis or Adam Smasher. Even if you really are special, it's not enough to survive Night City.
The thing about the story being crammed into a short length of time seems like a big theme with stuff Hiroyuki Imaishi directs lol. Like Promare and Dead Leaves both felt like an entire series crammed into a movie.

It makes the conversation from the game where Jackie is talking about dying a legend because nobody lives as a legend nobody remembers you to tell you die a legendary death way more impactful and that was kind of the whole point of the show. In my opinion it did leave me wanting more and he's right saying it was packed into too small of a package, but it exemplified that message more.
A great backstory, great characters, ultra violence, ultra gore, explosions, more explosions, even bigger explosions, random casual nudity, sex scenes, more action. Everything is spot on. Honestly this needs a 4K physical release with a steel book I'll pay for that!
I want an entire cyberpunk anime on Rebecca, she a wild one, I still can't get over the fact that she died she looked like she could survive the entire series and start her own edgerunner gang, she even faced Adam Smasher, the Adam Smasher like he was some random thug but of course she then died in an instant still she had some massive cojones for talking him down like that when he was attacking them, she was so courageous and her ability of pulling out an entire arsenal of weapons out of thin air and hit the block gangsta style is so friggin cool and wacky especially cuz she so petite she kinda reminds me of Mako from kill la kill but more violent and vulgar
@@traphimawari7760 She was my favourite character, my reaction to her death was "Noo, not Rebecca." but it's Adam Smasher, dude is a Night City legend for a reason lol.
I have never felt something so emotional over a show before but for a anime that's only 10 episodes long. It made me so attached and the end made me cry for so long. The relationships all felt so amazing and the one between Lucy and David was just perfect and that's what made the end so sad for me. David deserved to live his life with Lucy and Becca did not deserve to die in such a quick way
It feels more like the dystopian nightmare that the cyberpunk world is, people going cyberpsycho randomly should’ve been a feature of the game, combine that with the hyper sexual nature of people in the anime (theirs dudes literally using fleshlights in the streets)
Yeah. A major part of cyberpunk is "you're confused? Good. You're unfulfilled? Good. Everything is totally incomprehensibly crushing you for no good reason? Good, fuck you."
@@jackpitman15 what the anime does really good at is showing how scummy the coporations really are and how in the end they win no matter what. Even though a lot of their employees died. And there property was destoryed its nothing but a inconvience that can be fixed. But its all about profit. David and everyone else who died were victums who were making the best out of the situations the corps put them in even though to some theyll be remmbereed as legends in the grand scheme of things theyll be forgotten as life keeps going.
In all honesty, Charlie should give Cyberpunk another chance... at least, until after the Phantom Liberty expansion gets released. That said, the anime does look fucking insane.
@@daKoenig I’m not saying it’s not fun but it’s still a mediocre game. Shit if you compare it to the Witcher 3 but the gameplay is fun enough. Not much depth or variety but it feels good and looks great
@@francisoffilth7953 I actually much prefer the gameplay of cyberpunk of than Witcher 3. The sword play never felt quite right where the gun play in cyberpunk is awesome. @@francisoffilth7953 What is so great about Witcher 3 gameplay? He controls sooo janky. You can do 10 times more unique builds in cyberpunk imo. I think Geralt simulator is way too overrated.
I knew the main chatacter was slowly losing himself and I was getting mad at the show for allowing it to happen But at the end I just felt sadness, it was a brutal ending I even kind of cried, I didn't really cry but my eyes did get watery
@@dropkickpherby6994 the only problem with that is people are going to expect it to live up to the first season. People got attached to THESE characters, people aren’t going to want to see new ones unfortunately, and no matter how amazing it is, people are still going to be disappointed that they’re not the same. I don’t think Trigger has ever done second seasons anyway.
To me, the show's greatest strength is exactly what people are criticizing it for... a short runtime that actually has an ending, which, honestly, more entertainment media, especially video games, need to remember. I'd rather have a short story hit me hard with a proper ending than a lengthy narrative that crumbles near the end after sapping so much of my valuable time and energy. Great show!!! If I could rate it a 12 or even a 15 out of 10 on IMDb, I would. Don't know how many times I cried my eyes out.
Yeah too many series have gone to shit due to corporate greed punishing the creators for another and another season without break when they were creatively drained 3 seasons ago. A series that leaves you wanting more is not a bad thing.
But charlie is saying that the series needed more episodes to pace the existing plot out more. Not that it needed more content after the ending. I don't think this applies here.
I don’t think it should have many seasons or that kind of stuff. I would like though if the show had maybe 35-40 minutes episodes, instead of 20-25, this would give more time for the show to dive more into characters, making everything more impactful. For example, if there was more set-up for Maine’s psychosis, and more depth on his character, episode six would have been stellar. I also think that if we had more time with Lucy and David’s relationship, we’d be more invested by the time David sacrifices himself. Overall, I think the only characters that didn’t really need much more screentime were David and Kiwi, David because he is the protagonist, and the first episode is entirely focused on him and the rest is his decent into becoming a chrome junky. And Kiwi, dispite not having that much time, didn’t really need it. I loved her arc. She was a cautious and talented player, and we know that she’s the one who took Lucy in, and they actually have a dialogue that cements their closer relationship, and after she finds out about Lucy’s involvement with Maine and Dorio’s death, feels betrayed, and thus turns on them, in the end, when she gets betrayed by Faraday and is close to death, she tries to make up for it by giving Faraday’s location to David and the gang.
I dont think people want it to be an absurdly long anime, everyone just wanted a little more. Like 12-15 episodes. Or increase the length of the episodes to 30 mins instead of 20-25. And I kind of agree. Since after watching it, just little more filler content to make more relationships to certain characters.
Just finnished watching and honestly I think it's beyond perfect - the ending made me cry. For 10 episodes 25 minutes each they managed to pack so much into it it's amazing
@@helldronez sorry my brain is fried rn I just binge watched the whole series and it is now 2am, I meant with either Lucy or David dying but left that out 😩
I really loved it as well, but even I can the story had some pacing issues which makes sense for 10 eps, still didn't ruin the major moments for me at least.
The reason edgerunners looks so good is because it is done by the director of Gurren Lagann as well as Promare. He also did key animation for notable works like Evangalion and Kill la Kill. I am glad the aesthetic carries on.
The characters had such good chemistry with one another. The ending makes me so sad because of it, I just imagine scenarios like what if they never got set up? what if they all stayed together and the crew just went off as normal? or even if they disbanded they'd just live their lives how they want. Godspeed Falco and Lucy
God damnit kiwi, David and Lucy still could’ve turnt things around for the better and maybe gotten out of the city, or maybe not but there were so many ways the show could’ve gone but I wasnt expecting the one we got at all. Great show
I think they honestly would’ve been fine if a Cyberpunk John Wick was just a little more uninterested in the assignment. Second best was if he took David as an apprentice. I would love to see these routes.
It wasn’t bittersweet, but rather bitter… damn was that such a good anime. It was honestly heartbreaking to see Lucy on the moon alone. The team behind it did an amazing job!
That was the point where I really cried. I cried during other various points, but that one just got me big time. Going there alone, seeing David and she seems happy at first, just for him to disappear and she looks dejected again. God it hurts my heart.
The game now isn't disappointing at all. Honestly, it's my favorite title of recent years and I'm glad that maybe many people will now give it a second chance after seeing such a great anime.
I loved it from day one and will always defend it. The story is just mwah, and if your system could handle it, it was fucking gorgeous. Power scaling of the enemies after finishing the main quest was my only issue
The game is actually really good and fun to play. The bugs and its performance issues during launch were huge negative points, especially me as a PS4 user not able to play it.
The general consensus is that the game is a lesson in not putting thinks out too early. The game to most was good, or had the potential to be good. But how are you gonna play the game if it has a bunch of bugs. Some game breaking. It's kinda like watching a bootleg movie. It's the same movie, but so screw-up and such that you can't actually really enjoy it all that well.

I almost feel as much of an emotional wreck after watching that last episode as I did when I finished cyberpunk 2077. My goodness what a good show with fantastic characters. I spent the whole show wanting David and Lucy to get together and it feels like just as quickly as it happened it was gone.

@@crowman5610 I just finished it for the first time. I can't agree hard enough. It saddens me that the shit launch has tarnished it for most people, and that those who still played it after the fixes still don't rate it very highly. I loved it. Especially after Edgerunners and seeing all the tie-ins. I played the Prologue to get a feel for the world, got to the Edgerunners quest and decided to binge the show. Loved it also. Went back to the game, and both experiences were so much better for it. I enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 for what it was, had some real emotional pay-offs and I enjoyed 100%ing the game SO MUCH that I'm already casually going back for a Corpo run, AND a Nomad run. I won't mention the specifics of any endings, but damn, they are quite good. The most depressing one genuinely had me feeling bad because of the aftermath (and to be honest, the animation, and the VA from V and the other character was fantastic.) I felt so much satisfaction defeating the end-game boss with a *very* fitting weapon from Edgerunners, even if my overpowered V handled the encounter ably on very hard difficulty. It's not a perfect game, but I had an absolute blast with it. It's just a shame more people didn't enjoy it, I'd like to discuss it more often without rolled eyes, judgement or cynicism seeping out everywhere.
@@lordolxinator I agree completely, it truly is a great experience and I only wish more people would grant forgiveness and stand by the developers who go back and try, instead of waiting to be disappointed by the next big thing.

honestly 12-13 episodes would be way better, its not too long but not to short and like charlie said, its hard to care when your not given enough time to. 25 would be way too long.
i think is a case you think you want it but not really. a 25 episode show would have had a whole different feel to it and would have needed more sub plots. they show is like a firework goes all out with flashy lights and a bang and before you know it only ashes and smoke remains. trigger did many 25 episode great show but those have more subplots and downtime. ofc I would have loved more time just for the sake of it but I don't think the show would have been better for it. i would love and OVA about rebecca though

Not all the people react the expected way in real life when faced with such tragedy. For some it may be more silent than one thinks.
I like how they use an anti climax for his mums death like she survived the car accident then boom she’s dead which in comparison to other deaths where they show the character dying 3 times really shows how the city eats people up like clockwork

They just didn't have the space for it! Had the series received more episodes (like 5 more), they would've nailed character development. Even then, I really think the series was great and that the lack of whatever you argued here does not make the series any worse!
The 'backing track' you mentioned was the cover of Never Fade Away by Samurai from the game itself. The show was littered with references to the game with the environment, sound design and music. Seeing his mom's apartment, Lucy's hallway: those two were ripped straight from V's and Judy's apartment buildings respectively. Even the cross walks have the same voice and the 'bugatti' sounded the same. With 120 hours in Cyberpunk 2077, seeing a lot of stuff like that and hearing all the lingo like 'choom' and 'biz' was really cool. Final note: Most disappointing thing was that Adam Smasher was 1000000% cooler in the show than his boss fight in the game. Edited Final Final note: Becka best girl.
Becca was easily the Frontline. Loved the visuals as well, while they hacked, the other UI elements also. Was kinda nostalgic in a way. Makes me wanna go back and give the game another go. The music was the biggest highlight for sure, the ending *chef's kiss*
I think the reason that I loved Edgerunners so much, especially after I finished it, was because of how it truly captures the feeling of hopelessness. Like the show puts in so much effort building up its characters only for it all to come crashing down. I never expected the ending to be a happy one, but wow. It really hit me as a good subversion of expectations. In the end, Arasaka is still more powerful than ever, there is no victory, not even a small one. I guess from David's perspective you could call it a cautionary tale because by trying so hard to accomplish what his "predecessors" couldn't, he accomplished nothing and just ended up destroying himself. Sorry if that sounds a bit cynical, but it's why I loved this show so much.
The whole world of Cyberpunk is like this. The only winners in Night City are those smart enough to leave it or never set foot in it. There is no glory and honor in being an Edgerunner. It's excatcly like the name implies running on an edge and sooner or later even the best slip. But i think it teaches something very valuable, to not miss your shoot for soemthing like career or pride in your life. That the most important thing are the people around you. David may have become a 'legend' but his chance with Lucy and his friends is forever lost.
@@PSYMEDIC Sorry, what "friends" do you speak of? Almost all of them died. Faraday's turn sealed his fate, even if he'd not tried to save Lucy (which he was never gonna do anyway), he'd still only have Rebecca and Falco left.
@@joedorben3504 Doesen't change the fact that it was their live hard die young lifestyle that brought them down. Faraday is nothing special, he is just a small fish in a big pond. The reality is if Faraday wouldn't have betrayed them they would still be Edgerunners and would have likely died at the hands of someone else. Edgerunners are lot like Witchers. Not a single one has ever died in their bed. The only way to win as a Edgerunner is stop being one. There are no happy endings in Night City. Even if it sounds dumb they could have stopped before Faraday betrayed them. While they could have not known Faraday would betray them, they should been smarter then thinking themself as invincible.
I agree, I think this whole story could easily span into a 23 episodes anime. Characters go through a whole arc in one episode & then some more. Still solid 9/10 imo.
I mostly agree with you. It's just that it seemed the writers were speedruning how many characters they could kill. Because they decided to do everything in only 10 episodes, most of the characrers have no story. It is hard to care about them when you have no attachement. They offed the MILF ASAP, then deleted long arm boi (Pilar) and then went for a double kill with Maine and buff Karen. Then, there comes onther issue: David learned nothing with Maine going psycho. It is something he saw personally, and how it affected Maine and those around him. Only one who made me sad when they died was Rebecca. She was charismatic and had a crush on David. Even knowing she didn't have a chance against Lucy, she tried to take care of him. When that didn't work, she decided to go to hell and back with David. I thin 9/10 is too much, but a 7~8/10 would make more sense.
I think the speed of the show actually plays a pretty impactful meaning in the universe for the game/anime. In Night City, life is too fast and people die in droves everyday. You’re either living life as a nobody, or go down in a blaze of glory
It's really kind of crazy that the entire story takes place in the span of, what, maybe 6 months? That's a crazy amount of shit to happen. It's the same pacing as in the game, where your life goes to shit in a really short period of time.
I was overseas on launch of Cyberpunk and didn't really have much time for the hype. Came back home and started playing right around the drop of 1.5 and god damn I love that game. So much hate for something made so well. Understand those burnt at launch and their feelings, but damn yall should give it another go Love that you've compared it to Redline, such a beautiful and ridiculously fun project, can't wait to check out Edgerunners later!
Agreed. I played at launch and it was still one of the greatest games I've ever played. It is truly a next gen experience, and in it's current state it's going to be hard to beat
I don't think the show was too short, it was exactly short enough to leave you wanting more. And the time with David's mom being cut brutally short is very much thematically on point with the show and the setting. The show did not exposition dump at all, if anything, they were remarkably good about making the viewer find out about the setting and backstory with natural dialogue and inferences.
As someone who really loved the game, i'm glad people who didn't like the game are enjoying the show as well. Just for the fact that the cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith deserves all the love it can get. And while the game's launch was a big flop, still a big props to CDPR for sticking with it and bringing this universe to more audiences.
I don't think they could've chosen a better animation studio. Trigger did a fucking amazing job with this, the lil details they add in animation are fucking crazy.

I was legit so hurt by the ending of this show. I loved watching David and his story. This is one of the best shows I've seen in a fat minute.

I’m not much of a cryer during shows or movies however by the end of the 10 episodes seeing the way everyone needed up dead except Lucy really made me get in the feels.

it wasn't that depressing, I felt the deaths were just lovely and out of all the characters only Lucy deserved to live.

And David really did have nothing left, his first family died, and his second family also died. And he was suffering from Cyberpsychosis from all the implants he had. Even if he didn't have them, he would've eventually succumbed to it, that's how dangerous the Sandevistan was for David's mind. when his moms ashes came out of that vending machine I had to get up and walk around for a bit I was shook man.
Of all the brutal, heartbreaking shit to happen in this show, that part still sticks out in my mind as the absolute coldest.

At the end of the day, Lucy is on the moon, by herself, with all these people around her who never know what David had to sacrifice for her to get there and they never will know.
Yes bro could not have said it better
Short and sweet enough for me to watch it in one short session, just enough content I’d say.
They made Adam Smasher one fuckable piece of meat in this show. 10/10 villian
Ngl , i saw it coming tho. Like how did he expect to beat someone who’s working with people who made what he is wearing? Adam had to have way higher tech and even things no one else has. And his new suit was sooo bulky
The series makes me want to reinstall just so I can kill Smasher again. It will be more fulfilling this time around.
@@JL-GHK I hope they buff his fight so it's more challenging. I want killing him to feel like a tug of war

They could have.
But one of the major points behind the Characters, was that their Past isn't as important as what's happening at the time.
So there was really no need to do that.
Not really. It ended where it needed to. If they had 2 more episodes it would suck because David would be dead.

There's also the point they make in the Show:
That it doesn't matter how you live - only how you die.

It would have done a lot better even with 2-3 more episodes
A great backstory, great characters, ultra violence, ultra gore, explosions, more explosions, even bigger explosions, random casual nudity, sex scenes, more action. Everything is spot on. Honestly this needs a 4K physical release with a steel book I'll pay for that!
They could honestly do 200+ episodes if they swapped around characters. It would never get old. The delivery is spot on.

I feel like Mike Pondsmith finally got the adaptation of his work he wanted. This shit popped off and it GOT Cyberpunk, way harder than 2077 did.
It feels more like the dystopian nightmare that the cyberpunk world is, people going cyberpsycho randomly should’ve been a feature of the game, combine that with the hyper sexual nature of people in the anime (theirs dudes literally using fleshlights in the streets)
The game is definitely a better adaptation and with a better story than the anime.
Love both but the games story is 100% beautiful

@@ReddTurtl , well, to me, I wouldn't change anything with the show's pacing. But I guess that's just me.

@@fredxu99 the timeskip was a year so prolly a year and a few months
I was overseas on launch of Cyberpunk and didn't really have much time for the hype. Came back home and started playing right around the drop of 1.5 and god damn I love that game. So much hate for something made so well. Understand those burnt at launch and their feelings, but damn yall should give it another go
Love that you've compared it to Redline, such a beautiful and ridiculously fun project, can't wait to check out Edgerunners later!
DONT READ MY USERNAME!
Might Try It Back
Exactly man
Couldn't agree more
Yes sir. 100% worth a play. Love that game. Plus Keanu soooo
True
As someone who really loved the game, i'm glad people who didn't like the game are enjoying the show as well. Just for the fact that the cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith deserves all the love it can get. And while the game's launch was a big flop, still a big props to CDPR for sticking with it and bringing this universe to more audiences.
They’ve done a solid job post release too with the game
Game really wasn’t a flop sales wise
I don't think they could've chosen a better animation studio. Trigger did a fucking amazing job with this, the lil details they add in animation are fucking crazy.
True that.
Trigger has this specific, whacky art style, which fits perfectly here. I honestly cannot imagine any other studio handling this better.
@@Piromysl359 The little deatails they added like the red eye lens flare, or how their eyes would move around in cyber psychosis. Honestly this may top Kill la Kill for me imo.
@@lnordin4854 It already is for me. And it comes from someone who never played the game and I guess experience would be 10x better for those who did played it
@@Piromysl359 Oh yeah. They fucking packed the show full of tiny details. Especially locations from in the game, weapons, vehicles, even a couple characters. It was absolutely worth the wait for it. And having it so you don't even need to play the game made it so accessible to people too.
