Why Padre's Fall From Power Makes TOTAL Sense | Cyberpunk 2077 | Character Analysis & Explained
This fixer is considered a Cyberpunk 2077 favourite by many... but what if I told you Padre was the next Dexter DeShawn to the next chump of a solo who comes along?
I never would've thought this, but after I sat down and replayed the game, some things started to click in my head. I started to notice some detail that I never noticed before, and my brain went WAHHHHHHTTT?!?!?!?
My initial thesis with the Padre was more of a positive one, but yeah, it took a complete turn. And it was SO MUCH FUN!
I hope you all enjoy this take on Cyberpunk's most "godly" fixer, Sebastian "Padre" Ibarra. Let me know what you think in the comments! I'm super curious, especially anyone who has any theological p...

How Wakako Okada Became Night City's Most Ruthless Fixer | Cyberpunk 2077 | Analysis & Explained

"WAKAKO OKADA K*LLED HER HUSBANDS, KNOCKED 'EM DEAD". Or at least that's what I think. This lady is arguably Night City's most vicious fixer. Don't let her old age fool you she's not a soft granny who's got no ulterior motives. Let's take a look at the one fixer I'm personally scared of the most, and explore her early life as seen in Cyberpunk RED and 2077. Let me know what you think of the Lad...

TODAY, we cover one of my MOST REQUESTED characters from Cyberpunk... Which, shockingly, is Kirk Sawyer. Considering how small a role he plays in the overall game (he only appears if you play Streetkid V, in fact), his short story is quite meaningful when you take a look at the creature that is Night City. For all of Kirk's flaws, and all the time's he's thrown people under the bus, he still ha...

Michiko (Arasaka) Sanderson is a character only known as the blue-haired lady we meet in the Devil ending. But Michiko is anything but that simple. While her role in 2077 is a small cameo, Michiko's role in the CyberpunkRED tabletop is AWESOME. She's arguably one of the Arasaka family's most fascinating characters, and its SUCH a shame we didn't get to really work with her in 2077. She's wicked...

    Every ending Takemura has made me happy that I abandoned him. I didn't think to go back to save him. I felt terrible about it later. But after seeing how every remotely happy ending you could have ended him bitter, alone, and hated, I think him dying in that ratty hotel room is the best ending he can have.

    @Vecna Час назад

    I think the way the Valentinos are portrayed is how eventually Mexican culture could end. For example, the Cult of the Santa Muerte is not exclusive to Cartels (Just how Cartels are not necessarily connected to the Valentinos per sé, in the Streetkid Lifepath, there's an angle being played, Kirk pressures Pepe to pay what he's owed by suggesting he's in bed with the Cartels, Jackie eventually scoffs at that idea because he knows Cartel people wouldn't associate with people like Kirk, guy has a loose mouth and would bring them unnecessary heat), and despite how Valentinos operate (In many way resembling cartels by pushing drugs, girls, and other services, not to mention the fashion) they are still treated as a gang, a very big gang of course, but still a gang, whereas Cartels are more of an International thing that would definitely get the attention of the NCPD, Militech, and maybe even Arasaka. Not saying that a cartel wouldn't operate in Night City, but they would be more discrete if they do so, and Valentinos are not discrete at all (Like modern day cartels). Catholicism and Christianity in Latinamerica is an interesting topic, because it's its own kind of Christianity, there's a lot of prehispanic customs that were adapted into Catholicism so it would be more readily accepted. In Mexico for example, during religious holidays you can still see pagan rituals and dances as part of the celebrations, as such, oftentimes Priests also behave differently. It's not unusual to see Priests more than just members of the Clergy, they are community leaders, they get deeply involved with their flock, and it's not rare to see them get invited to have breakfast or lunch to someone's home while they deal with more private matters. Sebastian Ibarra in that way, resembles a lot of these priests. He could just be a Fixer who happens to operate in Heywood and Vista del Rey, and who happens to have been a Valentino and left it at that. Instead, he does treat the Valentinos like his own people (Even if some of his gigs are against Valentinos), checking in different gig-related computers or notes around the gig areas you can oftentimes read communications between him and several people where either people reach out to him for guidance, or he tries to guide and advise them. He's a stern father who loves his children but won't hesitate to become strict and punish unruly children if there's a need for discipline. A relationship like the one he has with Valentinos and Heywood and Vista would benefit a Fixer enormously, Padre becoming a Fixer was a logical move. There's also an interesting way Religion is portrayed in 2077, Padre is kind of a dying breed. If you check the Serenity Bible Church in Pacifica, you can confess your sins and receive penitence for Eddies. A lot of people who claim to feel remorse for their actions would rather just get penitence this way, and then claim they are a better person now, and get back to it. Joshua Stephenson sustains correspondence with Zuleikha, seeks her mother's forgiveness for what he did, and he ultimately fails and a very morally complex quest, Sinnerman, get deeper. Until its culmination, there are no Priests involved. Depending on your perspective, in Mexican culture, Priests are seen as people who know the best interpretation of the teachings from the bible and advise people the best they can based on these teachings. But in the hypersexualised, hypermaterialistic society of 2077, there's little to no room for morality, get in, pay, get out, alleluia. As for his downfall, I really think it was a matter of time. As you mentioned before, at the very beginning of the Streetkid Lifepath, Sam Carter draws a gun on him and V's reaction is an astonished one. V had been gone a couple of years from Night City, to them, seeing someone, anyone draw a gun on him was unthinkable. This should have been a very big red flag: 6th Street no longer feared him. In Phantom Liberty (If we side with Reed) we learn why: Militech is in bed with 6th Street, they are providing the gang with everything and they are taking advantage of their anticorporate sentiment to push the corpo agenda. They are clearly looking to expand, and both Padre and Valentinos are in the way. I can see Militech pushing their relationship to the next level by supplying them with more weapons, more tech, and maybe even more people. I think that, no matter how you look at it, Padre's downfall was just a matter of time. There's no big corporation backing Valentinos (One could argue that maybe Arasaka is, when we do the Tight On A Leash gig to deal with José Luis, but it's more like Arasaka conducted a transaction with the gang for a false flag attack, and is demanding that José keeps his end of the bargain), there's no steady flow of high-end weaponry and tech, and more importantly, 6th Street has a bunch of veterans and they are constantly becoming more militaristic in their approach. I really love the video, and the way you interpret the lore, and I apologize for the wall of text, I thought I'd chime in a bit!

    • @Vecna
      @Vecna Час назад

      I will say that the text V is supposed to get from Padre concerning his big gig to prove people wrong, is a cruel irony and a representation of what all Fixers eventually face: Dexter was out of the game for too long, so people stopped looking at him as this hot commodity and big deal Fixer, Konpeki was his ticket back to the major leagues. I'm not sure if I believe the Valentinos were the ones responsible for ousting him though. People in Mexico can criticize a Priest, even talk against him, but it's rare to see someone go up against him so openly. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but it's handled it differently as the clergy eventually just relocates them. I guess it could be an interesting twist to state that Padre left Heywood and started over somewhere else, but I think he was maybe a bit too old to start again, especially if he presumably has zero contacts wherever he landed. I still feel like 6th Street expansion could be the more likely reason.

    While I do feel the Hermit is supposed to be Alt, by the place where you find the mural, I always felt the card was also pointing towards being Jackie. From Misty's reading: "in solitude, he discovers the truth about himself and the world, and from this he draws strength" and "could be you... or someone who shows you kindness". That's pretty much 1:1 to Jackie moving out to his garage to have his own space, and taking V into his home at the beginning of the game

Anyways, she always struck me as someone dangerous and yes definitely a black widow but against evil business men. She may have some corruption or selfish, but may still have some morals. These people she takes out, usually are bad but yeah no such thing as good fixers. Anyways great video boss.

    What I find very interesting is, that as nomad V, after Evelyn ends herself, you can pick a dialog option in wich V says something like "Welcome to Night City, where your adress tells everything about you." and Judy answeres "We should have never come here in the first place." Her answer feels a bit of. Who is we? Maybe she and her grandparents, but she says it so personal at you. Was Judy originally planed as a nomad, who was supposed to come with you to NC in the intro? The scraping or cutting of Rivers story gave place for her as she is now in the finished game, but it is quite sad to see the lost potential on Rivers part to the story as a whole.

    From the minute Wako mentioned she had five husbands, and they all died, I was like, she’s a black widow! And then once it’s revealed she turned Evelyn over to the Scavs, I was disgusted by her. Which is a shame because I really liked her character before learning this. However, when you were talking about how she commissioned V to kill off Claws who have gotten themselves into bad situations, one could argue Evie got herself into the mess she was in, and Wako didn’t discriminate just because Evie is a woman and not affiliated with a gang. But still, the ruthlessness is unsettling to say the least.

    I believe it , one thing im liking is how the devs have added some much more closure to a lot of the quests compared to how the game was when it 1st came out. More dialog options and outcomes like that Sandra Dorsett chick for instance, after you save her in the beginning of the game theirs a quest later on where you talk to her again and even another quest where shes an option to call to help you with a quest. I really wish they would let us get to the bottom of who it is messing with /trying to control the Peralezs lol

    Padre betraying Gustavo I think is his attempt at de-escalating the gang war. If Gustavo is the war leader of the Tinos, his death would be a valuable bargaining chip when negotiating with 6th Street. Of course the Tinos would want revenge for Gustavo, so Padre might have asked Frakes for a 6th street lieutenant in return.

    It makes sense that the Valentinos would eventually get sick of him. He was the least insulated of any Fixer from backlash off the streets, and he did treat them pretty badly considering he relies on them for protection. When he said getting back at the Tinos wasn't part of the van theft gig I knew he stabbed them right in the back, and just to intimidate some hicks who probably wouldn't come back anyway.

    Hi, I come from a Greek Orthodox background and from my perspective I see that Padre definitely believes himself to be avenging those who had wrong done to them. If you ever read the Bible you’ll see many instances of God, who is considered as the epitome of goodness, to cast down horrible retribution on those who have done his people wrong. Flooding the earth, the plagues of Egypt, and what he did to Gomorrah being the best examples. Padre reads this and sees what he is doing as wrong but necessary in the end. There’s also points where you say instead of being properly faithful that he is instead scared of god but that’s not something that’s separate from proper belief. “‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved” -Amazing Grace. Fear comes with repentance but soon after comes penance and the light. He knows w he how he does things is bad and he knows he profits from it, but he still gets satisfaction from the fact that he believes he is doing good in the end. Some other comments covered the more physical aspects of Padre’s time in cyberpunk but yeah.

    Padre weakness is shown from the internal issues in the Valentinos, as others stated. As several of his missions are getting rid of his own, be it they were getting rid of his contacts or courting an enemy's as a lover. Mind Wakako is similar as we do missions where she has us get rid of Tiger Claws even though she is very connected with them. He has power and weaknesses the other fixers connected to gangs don't have. Be it he is more out publicly when others stay in more protected places. Padre needed to get rid of that 6th street punk who threatened him, for example, as others stated or it be worse later on for him. Mind as others also stated the fact it even happens shows issues in his power base to it happening at all. The DLC ending where we find out Padre is gone between the 2 year coma isn't surprising. As there was evidence his time was almost up, be it from new upcoming Valentinos internally or 6th Street, which was going through massive changes as well. I was more sad about hearing possibly Mama Welles and Pepe might be dead or at best left night city and aren't reachable given the shop is closed. In two years, a lot changed to the point that some nobody punks, who knows some things, can just openly attack a weak V who has been away. Some of the changes feel a bit too radical for just two years. Given V from the Heywood path did leave before for x years before coming back. Padre is axed after said 2 years, and even Viktor giving in after what has happened, I can see. The random punks, though, going for V right where it happened, and conversation, though, regardless of choices, was pretty forced, though, in my view. Given that the punk had knowledge on things he had to know, Viktor used to be non corporate owned. Given this, nobody knows Padre, the shop situation, etc, depending on life path dialogue.

    i’ll be honest i had no idea that the “Excelsior” package was a metaphor, I heard it and thought it was a cool and cute little Stan Lee reference since his “catchphrase” was Excelsior. or maybe that’s because I grew up a Marvel kid

    I actually felt the same but since it as my first play through, I thought the game bugged me out of the bonding quests. Like, as is? The end of the Peter Pan quest could've worked as is, but between that and the romance quest, we could have used more ground.

    I was iffy about Dex the moment Royce and the Maelstrom boys laugh at you for working for Dex. Before that I thought Dex was cool, V’s big break, but when the fucking Maelstrom gang burst out laughing at the mention of his name I was like “tf? is he this bad?”

    Of all the fixers, Wakako was the one that i had the biggest change of heart about. At the start of the game, she was a badass gangsta Granma doling out gigs and eddies. Obviously lethal and not to be messed with, but holding the special place where you keep your favorite grannie. Then Evie. God, that one story line. Following the fate of Evie. tracing what happened to her. Tracking from one low life scum bag to another as they passed her around like a piece of meat. Doling out vengeance as I went. Until I found out how the scavs ended up with Evie. Just biz. A client came to her. He needed help. She helped him. Just biz. Grow up, V. You have bigger concerns, V. We make good eddies, V. The rage was palpable. As i finally understood what had happened I didn't care that i had a dead rocker boy in my head, i didn't care that i was living on borrowed time, kept alive by the thing that was killing me. All i wanted to do was show Wakako that there were consequences for everything and she couldn't hide behind "just Biz" But, alas, I could not. I still feel the rage when i hear those words. Just biz.

    I don’t know choom. I feel like for this to work you have to ignore so much about Padre it isn’t worth it. For example, in the run in with Sam, V says “he pulled a gun on you!” And Padre answered “ and he will pay for that”. THATS why we find Sam zeroed later in the story. Padre sits in the basketball court in the middle of the hood because it literally is a power move and he walks the path of a Valentino Jesus. Jesus was never holed up in a mansion, he was with the people. You also have to ignore the fact that he may have been seen as more touchable because of this. You had the counter argument for almost everything in the story so I have to agree this is well thought out, I think it comes down to perspective. You call what he was doing sloppy, from a gangers perspective, these are all messages for everyone to see.

    Funny enough Oleg Dex's bodyguard is an FIA agent. He was so incompetent that his number 2 was not even on his side.

    T Bug was a threat to Madam Brigitte. I believe that Madam Brigitte was willing to sacrifice T Bug. Brigitte, knew Evelyn Parker was a threat to the Voodoo boys plans. Madame Brigitte also knew that Dex de Shawn was a man punching above his intellectual weight. But T Bug wasn’t and she was a threat on all fronts. Extracting the biochip successfully would have strengthened T bugs hand. I believe T bug was betrayed to Arosaka by Madam Brigitte. During the time between Yorinobu’s patricide, and the recall of the bodyguards, in the confusion T Bug was betrayed by Brigitte, and fried. The others Jackie and V were left to deal with the aftermath which resulted in the fatal shot to Jackie. After this the Voodoo boys tracked down Evelyn to remove her as a witness and conspiritor as we find out in Clouds. I always betray the Voodoo boys.
