Yeah, I think Mel mentions elevating House Talis to the council in episode 4, rather than Jayce as an individual. He is just the current representative of his house, I guess
Even if there is some parliament rules on acsencion to the council, it's likely rigged to place those the nobles houses want to the council. Much like most forms of democracy.
Something to note here is how the relationship between Vi & Caitlyn is a combination of opposite attracts (both have different upbringings & personalities) & birds of a feather (both protective, stubborn, determined, & good hearted)😁.
There's also an interesting part of Caitlyn which is that she often uses and kind of abuses her power without her realizing. She gets a job as an enforcer easily because of her name, she breaks Vi out of jail although she technically isn't even an enforcer at the time that happens (she uses Jayce's new status to ask for or forge a permit) and she uses her mother's influence to arrange a meeting with the council. There's a kind of scary realization in the fact that we're lucky she's doing harmless stuff (right now), but if she does something that she believes is the right thing mixed with spite or naivety she could do A LOT of harm in season 2.
@@amayaguerra6602 Yes and God it's even worse than I imagined, can't wait to see if she actually can be redeemed or if they're gonna go full villain with her. My fangirl side says I want Cait and Vi together so she will be redeemed but my theorist side sees to little time for Cait to commit war crimes, repent, redeem herself, find Vi, apologise and for Vi to accept her again. But Vi has it bad for her. I think they could find each other in the last episode of the show after a really traumatic event, like a calm after the storm, although some ends will be loose (maybe jinx runs away or there's still disputes between Piltover and a recently emancipated Zaun with rebels left).
The first thing Caitlyn learned about being an Enforcer was that it meant protecting people and being of service to the city. That is what an enforcer should be shooting for. And in that final episode she had a chance to prevent the bombing and potentially the war by just taking one shot, but she failed to do so because of her desire not to hurt Vi I could definitely see her taking that lesson to heart in season 2. That her first priority has to be protecting the citizens of Piltover from further destruction, by never hesitating like that again. By doing the hard and unpleasant thing, making what someone like Ambessa would call “the necessary decisions to keep us safe," and forcibly keeping topside and the undercity from hurting each other, whether they like her means of doing so or not And I could see her deciding that things like empathy and personal feelings are only holding her back, so she needs to bury them deep inside (or ship them halfway across the continent like the Medardas). Which will be tragic to watch, given how empathetic she actually is, so you know it's just going to be boiling over inside and tearing her apart with guilt while she's fighting tooth and nail never to let that kind of weakness show. At least until there's some big moment where she realizes she's gone too far and is doing more harm than good and needs to correct her mistakes
@lismarie9011 I really hope I'm on the right track, because Caitlyn meaning well but taking it too far for a while is a much more interesting story direction than Caitlyn just going off the deep end and not even having good intentions anymore Maybe it even happens gradually, like she has this clear vision in the beginning of the season of how to prevent the war and preserve peace in the city but everybody topside keeps rejecting her ideas. Then she crosses the river and finds that even though she cares so much about the wellbeing of the undercity and Jinx just wants "to watch it all burn," the people there now LOVE Jinx and actually try to protect her from Caitlyn So Cait slowly loses trust in all the people around her except Vi. Then, of course, something happens that makes her feel like even that trust is now gone, and they have their breakup. So Caitlyn, who feels completely alone and like she has absolutely no stability or control in her life anymore but has just been promoted to a position of power, decides to go all Big Brother and single-handedly prevent violence in the city through tight-fisted control of all the citizens. In her mind, they obviously can't be trusted to make the right decisions for their own safety, so they just don't get to make those decisions anymore. SHE does
It was a hectic moment but she did have the chance to neutralize jinx, not kill but take the power to hurt away. Shoot her shoulder or leg or get her into a real submissive position like kneeling and laying.
@@aranthur I 100% agree that this would be much more compelling than her just going berserk on a vengeance arc. And I see this being the direction in S2 (at least I hope so) from what we see in the teaser. She lists out three objectives, and all of them are totally reasonable and clear and would definitely be for the benefit of everyone. So I'd love to see how she loses herself because of her grief, guilt, and regret, despite her good intentions.
Caitlyn is a precious baby giraffe and must be protected at all costs. ♥ My favorite Caitlyn headcanon is that she's actually the more romantically experienced one. She looks perfectly at ease talking to the brothel worker. Caitlyn even charmed her into taking off the mask! Plus, that room is themed for hunting: lots of potted plants, a woodland painted on the wall, taxidermied animals, complete with bow-and-quiver props. Between the flashback scene of the shooting competition, and how swiftly Caitlyn is able to track Vi down after getting ditched, she certainly fits the bill of a hunter. Also consider that when Cassandra kicks open the bedroom door with rifle in hand, she sees her daughter sneaking a girl into her room and Cass's reaction comes across like, "This again?" Caitlyn's probably an old hand at bringing classmates up to her room for a snog. 😉 By contrast, Vi comes across as the more flirty one, but that's clearly an act. She spent pretty much all her formative years either being a parent to her little sister, or in prison and struggling just to survive. Hell, Vi might even be a virgin!
This is my favourite headcanon too!! It makes a lot of sense that she’s the most experienced one too, Vi was literally in prison for YEARS, Cait could do technically as she pleases (at least in that regard), I also kinda think that the fact that she’s the one asking “what about us” so directly could also be (apart from everything else) a bit of a “hint” that she knows how to handle romantic relationships better (this is just a smaller detail on the scene tho), It’s also interesting to see Vi’s flirtiness as an act to hide her lack of romantic experience, I can just imagine a scene where she’s all confident flirting with Caitlyn to maybe annoy her (like in the brothel) but then Cait flirts back very directly/boldly and she starts getting a bit nervous hhahah (very random Ik)
Plus Vi was in solitary confinement for a long time because she kept fighting with the other prisoners. I highly doubt she even got basic human contact for years.
i agree with this!! however it’s interesting how caitlyn is only ever shown talking to adults, never anyone her own age. calling herself a misfit, and generally not seeming to be interested in anyone romantically until she meets vi. i wish we knew more about this! i’m so excited to see what caitlyn is like when her and vi’s relationship gets (hopefully??) more serious during act 1.
I really love how the Kiraman family embraces their passion for firearms. Caitlyn fidgets with a gun while contemplating her investigation, and there's a family painting featuring young Caitlyn holding a rifle. Plus, Caitlyn’s participation in sharpshooting competitions and her mom's rifle skills make it all even cooler!😅👍
I fear the attack on her mother will drive Caitlyn into a sharp turn into aggressive conservatism to punish Jink and by extension Zahn for the attack. So much that Caitlyn will go"with us or against us" with Vi forced to become an Enforcer and hunt Jinx. And she will abandon Vi when Vi refuses to.
It's also a good thing to note that Caitlyn gave Jinx a second chance by not killing her in that moment, majorly for Vi's sake and the goodness of her heart. That hesitation, that doubt of killing Jinx in that moment, then spiraled into Jinx very likely killing her mother and/or her closest friend. And I think we all agree that Caitlyn giving Jinx a third chance after betraying her before (which is what led to this whole mess) is... Incredibly unlikely. Part of Caitlyn's gotta be blaming herself for not killing Jinx when she had the chance, and lowkey Caitlyn has every right to go full guns blazing, fully from her perspective. She's been nothing but open to understanding and got majorly screwed over sooo...
@@xdv0id420 And this is cycle of revenge that extended long before any of these characters were born and seems destined to carry them along too. The challenge in fiction or reality is trying to stop it before it consumes everything.
@@himepuri I wasn't completely right. I did nail Caitlyn's, Vi's, Jinx's, and Sevika's plot points and timing almost exactly right. I got Viktor's plot half right. I predicted his injuries in the bombing would precipitate his full body conversion using the Hexcore, but I thought his injuries would merely cripple him and he with possibly the assistance of Singed would do it. I did not expect the injuries to be mortal and that Jayce would do the conversion. I also believed Mel would die in the attack and it would be a grieving Jayce not Caitlyn that was manipulated by Ambessa into becoming the fascist dictator of Piltover. I certainly didn't expect Heimerdinger, Ekko, and Jayce to form an epic science bro squad. As for what will come, my guess is Jinx with Sveika's urging will embrace becoming the figurehead of the Zahnite revolution and Caitlyn will begin a full scale attack on Zahn. I also believe that minus Jayce and Viktor, mass producing new Hextech weapons will be too difficult for Caitlyn's forces but Jinx will be able to produce some new weapons herself. Warwick will be released possibly to attack the Enforcers but Singed loses control and pit fighter Vi wil fight him. The science bro squad will come back far too late to stop the war and any appeals for peace will fall on deaf ears. Ekko uses the insight garnered by their extradimensional jaunt to create the Z-drive and it will prove crucial to saving a main character's life. Caitlyn will reach her limit at some point and have a "my god, what have I done moment" and try to stop the war but Ambessa will usurp her and seize Piltover and a portion of Zahn for her own. Caitlyn joins Jayce in the resistance. Viktor will begin an initially peaceful mission to covert Zahnites into cyborgs but clash with Ambessa's forces, necessitating his conversion to the battle cyborg from the game. Viktor will lose all of his humanity and Jayce will fail to talk him down and be forced to fight him. No idea where the Black Rose will come in.
Great analysis as always :) As much as I love Vi, I'm looking forward to Caitlyn's arc the most for season 2. Her ideals are going to be tested for sure. I think it's going to be rough, but hopefully there will be some meaningful catharsis for her in the long run.
@@lydiscott Yeah I've definitely spent too much time theorizing how things might go, at least in the beginning. I do think thematically Caitlyn and Jinx are sort of "mirrors" of one another. Both from opposite "sides", but both also linked with Vi in the middle. So I think Caitlyn might have similar story beats as Jinx did in season one. Not identical, but sort of rhyme. The show is so heavy with parallels I can't help but think of it that way. I think you're right that agency is a big part of Caitlyn and Jinx's arcs, but also with Vi as well. They are all touched by these parental figures and their prior actions, or lack thereof. But will they overcome the mistakes of those who came before, so to speak. Themes everywhere! Either way, I definitely think Caitlyn is going to have a "dark path" at least for a portion of the season. My hope is that she will eventually come out of it somewhere in the third act.
A small detail that’s in the scene right before Caitlyn escapes Vi, Vi rolls her shoulder. She does this almost every time before or mid fight. Perhaps it’s the shoulder she broke after the factory when debris fell on her. I doubt prison was a spectacular place to heal a bone correctly.
I can't believe there're people who think she's just visual or Vi's (unofficial) girlfriend. The thing that grabbed me the most was her skills (especially the scene where Jinx was shooting)
Ya I’ll admit I’m totally guilty of viewing Caitlyn through a very Vi-centric lens in the past, because Vi is such an interesting character as well, but when I realized this I was like “oh crap I need to do right by Caitlyn here” lol. She’s got so much more to her than just being Vi’s anchor.
Best girl Caitlyn!! You knocked it out of the park! I absolutely love genuine, insightful analyses of Arcane characters but especially Caitlyn's since we're really lacking in that department. I could eat this up!!! She's somehow one of the most hated, loved AND misunderstood characters in Arcane, and you did her justice. I love love how people keep finding more and more parallels between her and Jinx as well. There's just so much there and it's just so uuuggghhh i love it. I can't wait for her character regression in season 2 (it'll hurt so bad) and how she gets back to being the loveable good-hearted cupcake we all love and adore. Lastly, thank you for making this video 🫶🏽
Thank you for watching and for your comment! It was really fun to make this, I can’t help but relate to Caitlyn, and it so cool to see a sheltered girl like her NOT be portrayed as weak. As naive as she may be she’s pretty kickass!
@@lydiscott Yes, despite starting off as a trope, I love how this show explores characters in such interesting ways and subverts expectations. Despite not being an only child I still relate to her so much. She's a great role model on being able to work through her ignorance, accept hard truths, and simply WANTING to grow.
As a greek Caitlyn name is an Irish origin but the name originally comes from the Greek one Αἰκατερίνη (Aikaterine)/Κατερίνα (Katerina) Also I love the fact that her mothers name is also Greek Cassandra (Κασσάνδρα) and it means '' the one who shines or excels over a man'' showing that she is the ruler of the family and for a fact the Kiramman name IS matrilineal
seeing this after the first 3 eps and its breaking my heart so bad remembering the character she used to be 😭😭💔 im excited to see her villain arc but omfg she used to have a heart of gold i would become emo as hell too if i was vi
Cupcake is a very good character and funnily the only character with plot amour in its purist form (Progress day trap and she being the only survivor although being closest to the explosion). But besides this she is probably the second character incorporated in the story from Topside after Grayson. Because she is like Powder the embodiment of her city in its purist form. Thats the reason she is so closely connected to every character more so than even Vi or Powder. I love the fact that she is gay just because it adds just another layer of conflict and tragedy to her and I love myself some layers lol. Great video. Have a nice day AEther
She was actually farthest from the explosion and also outside the building! She was trying to put out the external fires while the Enforcers who died were inside looking for the "scared little girl" (who lit the building on fire "by accident"), so she had both distance and a wall protecting her, explaining how she only got a few scratches and probably a concussion.
@@DarthRayj 2 guys where right beside her and she got hit by the shock wave and did multiple flips (and these 2 meters shouldn’t make a difference). And basically in the next scene that had maybe a day of delay she jumps around with Vi in the Undercity. That is plot armor if I have seen any. And honestly I must say I don’t have any problems with it. Simply because her surviving creates more drama then if she died at that point. Also the fact that this is the only case of real plot armor even if we factor in season 2 and even here we can make an argument against it, its freaking impressive.
I saw a comment below talking about how they think Caitlyn's arc will go, and I want to add something, but this is more focused on Caitlyn and Vi's relationship. It's evident that Vi's intervention in the confrontation between Caitlyn and Jinx was crucial; by not allowing Caitlyn to shoot, it triggered a series of disastrous events. This led to Jinx knocking Caitlyn out, which, in turn, culminated in the destruction of the council and, more painfully for Caitlyn, the death of her mother. In the second season, it's likely that Ambessa will manipulate Caitlyn. In the trailers, where we hear her say, "we do not mourn death, we avenge it," I believe she's saying this to Caitlyn. This manipulation could extend beyond that, affecting her relationship with Vi as well. I imagine Ambessa could make Caitlyn doubt Vi, perhaps suggesting that in a moment of danger, Vi would choose Jinx over her. This would create an internal conflict within Caitlyn, who, despite trying to convince herself that Vi isn’t to blame, would probably start resenting her. When Vi eventually intervenes between Jinx and Caitlyn, as we know she will, Caitlyn might feel betrayed. In the trailers, Vi tells Caitlyn, "my sister doesn’t exist, there’s only Jinx left," which could indicate she’s ready to confront Jinx-and she will. However, when Vi ultimately acts in defense of her sister, this could unleash Caitlyn's fury, making her feel that everything that has happened, including the loss of her mother, is Vi's fault. I can picture Caitlyn saying: "You promised me that the next time we faced Jinx, you would do it, and now you’re interfering again. Haven’t you learned anything? You not only caused all this chaos but also took one of the most important people in my life away from me." I know this sounds dramatic and not exactly like something Caitlyn would say, but it’s just an idea. This kind of resentment, combined with Ambessa's manipulation, could lead to an emotional outburst from Caitlyn, heightening her conflict with Vi. The impact of this situation could push Vi into a state of depression, as depicted in the "Nothing to Lose" video. Because we know how Vi is-she blames herself for everything, even when it's not her fault. The complexity of their emotions and the external manipulation could lead them to face an even greater challenge in their relationship, marking a difficult path for their connection in season 2.

This is literally the break-up scene in ep3
I looove that Caitlyn's name is Irish, she speaks with a British accent, and is voiced by a Scottish actress😄 Great video! I love Cait. She is also a very relatable character for me. While I, myself, am not an only child nor come from wealth, my brother and I were pretty sheltered by very overprotective parents. Even as adults, we still feel guilty if we do anything that may make them worry or disapprove and they often do voice displeasure. Well, my dad now since my mom has passed (...maybe also relatable now..?😅) but I digress. It's a feeling of wanting to break free and be independent and choose our own paths without helicopter parenting making us always second guess ourselves. The struggle is real. We were very naive as children heading into the real world. He and I have always tried to treat others with kindness and empathy despite not always receiving it in kind. Cait's a helluva lot more confident and brilliant minded than I'll EVER be tho lol. Many fans hate on her for her privileges and being an enforcer and see her as bad or annoying. And sure, she can be naive and blinded by her privileged upbringing (through no fault of her own as parents shape their children), but that's also what makes her such a compelling character in that she has some of THE MOST character growth in the series thus far. I'm very interested, but nervous, how s2 will treat her, but I hope if everything must hit rock bottom that she (and Vi) can still get a happy ending.
@@lydiscott And in less than a month many fans hope to see it get stronger, but I imagine more character development first considering Vi's seeming struggles in the trailer.
Cait and Vi bed scene was in the morning their 5 minute presentation to the council was that night. They spent the entire day together. Enough happed in between for Cait to ask "what about us?" When Vi thinks Jinx cut off Cait's head, her mind thinks of Cait looking at her from said bed. Why would that particular image be the one she think about?
I can't wait to see all the new fanart- I mean character development from S2. Caitlyn is one of those characters that you just feel kind of relieved to have on screen in a series like this, shes such a grounding force for the people around her in S1
Caitlyn sucks at lying or being fake. Which is why the matilda thing was so cringy. That and the wip lash from Vi coming on to her. I feel like one in a room caitlyn relaxed and was more herself and obviously got the attention she wanted.
I love her pure heart in season one and I'm afraid Jinx killing her mother will ruin it 😭 hopefully she's able to pull back by the end of the season before she goes too deep.
J'aime beaucoup tes analyses. Tu es belle à voir partager ta passion pour les personnages et les histoires et tu es vraiment intéressante à écouter. Merci pour tout et j'ai bien hâte pour la suite !
Haven’t watched the video yet, but I noticed that the text on the thumbnail is quite similar to the thumbnail of Idle Scree’s Caitlyn video posted about a week ago. It’s likely a coincidence, but if it’s not then a mention in the video or even just the description goes a long way. As always, love your Arcane character breakdowns! I’m eager to dive into this one 😁
I love the subtle parallel between Jinx/Powder and Caitlyn. I love how it carried over to season 2, with it even being directly pointed out by Vi. It was so well done!
New comer to your channel, just finished your Edge runners videos and moved on to these. You really put your heart into this, and I'd be a liar if I said you haven't hit me in feels in more than a few times now. Keep it up!! You do great work!
After doing whatever she could think of to break free from overprotection, she finds her calling in protecting a protector. I love that. There’s a moment in episode 7 that’s been pointed out but I haven’t really appreciated until now: when Jinx shoots at Caitlin and Vi on the bridge, before Vi pushes Cait out of the way you can actually briefly see Cait trying to shield Vi with her arm.
Which was a terrible decision for Season 2, as she's also the most unlikable, and boring to watch. They sohuld have killed her off in the attack at the start, and had Vi in her role with Ambessa, going after Jinx for killing her girlfriend. It would have made Vi and Jin'x relationship impossible to repair and better to watch.
I just discovered your channel and I'm so glad, these are some of the best Arcane related videos that I have ever seen and they really deserve more views, I think the stuff with Caitlyn is what I'm most excited about seeing in Season 2.
Aww I’m so happy you’re enjoying my videos! Thank you so much for watching. Super excited to find out what happens next, can’t believe it’s a day away basically lol
@@lydiscott I know, I'm sure that it will live up to the hype but now I'm going to be binge watching all of your Arcane character videos, will you do a revamped videos on all of the characters when Season 2 is wrapped up?
I look at theories regarding S2, and info direct from the makers that says Vi and Jinx's story ends with S2, but for the rest, I've been waiting this long. I can wait til it comes to Netflix.
One of my favourite analyses of Caitlyn made the observation that Caitlyn actually displays a very Machiavellian personality, albeit guided by her moral compass (she might not be a good liar, but her lies still work) If Season 2 shifts her moral code slightly, she would have the potential for a very ominous character
I suspect that her arc in Season 2 will involve her choosing between her original morals and those corrupted by anger, revenge & outside manipulation Should she fall into that, it'll be interesting to see what pulls her back from the brink
Caitlyn has been my favorite character since season 1 episode 4, I always like her good characteristics and her bad characteristics too, the show has a very incredible way of showing her kindness and intelligence but also dont hide her ignorance, naivity and willingness to use her position for what she wants, in this case falsifying the document to get Vi out or not being fired even before for her constant investigations, if it was another person they would have been fired long before, that and many other things creates the separation between her and her coworkers and she wouldnt have been able to get Vi out that easily. It was something good for us becasuse we like Vi but if she could do that for her, she could do that for another person that may have really committed a crime if she wanted to, just because she has the power, is corruption and a broken system and they dont hide that from us, the audience and the interesting part is that I thing that she isnt even aware of this, she gets upset by being given a lot of things when she realizes is just for her family name, but she is so used to it that a lot of things doesnt register in her mind, it isnt in bad fate, it is just her life. We can see different sides of her not only watchin her but seeing how other people see her, how Jayce trust her, how Vi see her at the beginning and how her opinion changes, how Jinx see her, even how Marcus see her, I love his line "she is like all of them, I cant control her" showing his frustration with the upper class even if he himselfis very judgamental of the undercity. And yes her and Jinx are so much alike, if we just take appearances, both have blue hair, they both have natural blue eyes, Caitlyns design is very similar in the sense that she has very sharp features like Jinx and Silco (something that cought my attention since the beginning because in character designe those are features for antagonist or villans, having those characteristics in a character shown to be very gentle was interesting especially in a show that is all about opposites, like Vi having very round and cute features even if she is the "strong, violent one" that have usualy more square features). In personality and abilities both are extremely inteligent, both are great with guns, and both want to prove something to somebody else or themselves and like Vi said, both are very obsesive. honestly she is a character that I relate to in an absurd amount of ways, for what we see in the new trailer I know she will be in a very dark path, that makes me so sad, I understand her pain for what happened to her at the end of s1 but I will not defend her if she does wrong things, even if this happens I think she will always be a very important character for me. I grew up with very loving parents, they protected me and my older brother a lot, we both were very sick when we where kids so they always cared a lot for us, I dont usally go out much even now as an adult because I like to stay indoors, so I dont have a lot of expirience outside besides work and normal life things but I share the sentiment of wanting to prove my abilities in the things I do in life and of course wanting to be more independant comming from a protective home. My family is not rich,we are a normal family that need to work to afford things but that doesnt stop me for relating to her a lot because even if we dont have a lot of money we have more privilages than other people in my country and i have always had a very good life, and it is good to be aware of this. Even if she is an only child the relationship between Jayce and her is very special because he is like her big brother and I relate a lot to that, they care and trust in eachother. The scene that just blew me away was when she tells the other guards about the airships, I tend to do that or say random facts, my friends know that it isnt with bad intentions and I try not to do that with strangers because it can be taken badly and I just felt so much empathy for her in this scene and i can talk of more scenes but this is already too long 😅. Also I watched this show almost 3 years ago, I didn't know about their LoL lore but I loved it scince episode 1 started, i wasn't expecting the show to have two lesbian characters with such an obvious connection and in that time i had accepted that I am Bi just a few months before so it was a very awesome surprise and it was something very special for me at that time in my life that i was just accepting myself. Loved the video❤
It just occurred to me what the perfect summary for Caitlyn's likely season 2 arc is: "In the pursuit of great, we failed to do good. We have to make it right." Just like Jayce and Viktor, just like Vander, heck even Silco in the end. She sees legitimate flaws and failings in her society, but she is continuously held back from fixing them by a corrupt system and by people who don't share her urgency to fix it NOW. Until eventually she decides to fix the problem all on her own, even if that means compromising her morals to achieve it, but then finally coming to regret that choice once the collateral damage it has led to becomes too much for her to stomach
Amazing video, excellent analysis...Caitlyn is my favorite character and CaitVi is the best of Arcane, hope they come back in the future. Congratulations and keep doing.👍👏
I recently and randomly watched your video on Sevika, that and this have both been great videos so I will be checking out more of your channel. Like many, I watched cartoons when I was younger and although I have no issues with animation as a form of storytelling it's generally not a big part of what I enjoy as an adult. I never played the game but something drew me to it when it came out. I actually watched it twice at the time but haven't actually returned to it. This level of animation and quality of vocal performances gives so much emotional resonance to well-written characters. There are no weak points to the storytelling and you have a wonderful way of engaging with that emotion with your inflections.
I recently Discovered your chanel and i love it your videos are amazing and genuently show me so many things i missed in my favorite storys. The Only Sad thing is that there are not more videos :(
I don’t know if any one has mentioned it yet in the comments but i Caitlyn as possibly autistic coded. And i like this possibility. First because she is biracial and we need more variety in autistic characters. She has the detailed focus on one thing hyper fixation and aria of interest energy. We see her with only one friend someone she has know since she was young. Immediate loyalty. Moments of failing to read the room. Talks about her ideas and theories but struggles to talk about her feelings. Taking herself seriously as a young adult even when she is like 14 (in the grayson clip). Off the top of my head. Could add more later. There are some stereotypes she would fill but some interesting ones that she would break. One of the more interesting is that it is implied she has had some one night stands and spends a good part of acts two and three trusting for Vi. In season two she pursues a rebound relationship that seems mostly physical. It is a very common problem that people think autistic women don’t have a sex drive or shouldn’t. There is more i have to say on this topic but for now any thoughts?
Good evening 🌃. I'm fan of caitlyn and vi. Everyone have great day and next day and week and weekend and next week and full happiness 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊. Great video and keep make great videos.
Ywah caut hugging huck very much reminds me of princess diana hugging aids victims at a time when everyone was so terrified of it. Someobe of such privilege abd status taking the first step to show the world these people are human and deserving of respect
The short answer is yes. The long answer is that I spoiled myself the entire shows plot points just to scream at the TV for „hiding away“ the rest of the story. I wanted to kill the creators for actually achieving something only few writers can: „Create People“. The fact that this show shouldn’t even work and on top is an ad (in theory) to sell skins in LoL is absolutely insane. This show has no right to be this good. I personally am 700ish hours in analyzing this series and Im still finding stuff I didn’t thought about that change the entirety of my perception. The reason for this is a character network that is able to introduce and develop a character in 8min to the point we hate her but then understand her. And honestly now is the best time to start as you will be able to watch the show and then watch season 2 right after so you get the combined package instead of waiting 3 years.
there's a YTer who is a psychologist (Psyculturists) who recorded 3+ hour reaction and analysis videos for each ~45 minute episode. There's another YTer who's a writer (Schnee) who has done something like 100 analysis videos. For my part, I'm not usually into tragedy. I find myself arguing with the writers most of the time when they try to do tragedy. I don't buy the motivation of the characters, or the chain of cause and effect, or the psychological model that the writers based their characters' reactions on, or whatever. But with Arcane I can't do that. Everything is so solidly established that it feels deterministic - that from the starting conditions of the show it would always turn out the way it did. So there's no choice but to just accept the tragedy.
I seek flaws in everything I come into contact with. Nothing is pleasing to me. Arcane I only had a single complaint and it is incredibly minor. It might be the best thing I've seen. THe first 3 episodes contain more character development, feel and plot than most series contain in a season. It is gutwrenching. The animation opened my mind to new ways to display emotions in visual media. Everthing is beautiful or transcendent. Watch it. It might be the best thing I've come into contact with. It knocked other 10/10 shows down to 9 just to make place for arcane.
Hey, this is a crazy good channel and I’m really happy to have subbed to it early. I really think you’re gonna grow big with how thoughtful your content and own conclusion are. Do you write yourself?
thank you for this video ! arcane’s rendition of cait is one of my favourite fictional characters of all time , it’s lovely to see her getting some love
I like to think if Caitlyn ever saw my sitting posture or how I cut my pancakes, She would crash out and spend weeks training me to have upper class Piltover manners or something 😂
Loved the video ❤ the only thing that doesn't apply to Caitlyn is the fact that in Arcane's world homophobia doesnt exist, it is completely normal and common for same sex people to be partners, so at least she doesn't have to worry about that, and one of the writers said that her family passes the family legacy to the women line in the family, the only thing to consider is if Caitlyn wants to have a child in her future because it would be very bad for her if she doesn't want a child and she is the only one in line for the family leadership, but maybe she has more family that can take her place 🤷 Also Amanda, one of the writers kind of said that Caitlyn had the tendency of sneaking girls to her bedroom through the window when she was younger, that seeing Cait and Vi enter her room wasnt a new experience for Caitlyn 's mother 😂. For the interactions that Vi and Caitlyn have i think that Caitlyn is the one with far more expirence in dating and flirting because obviously Vi has been in jail since she was 15. Caitlyn was just taken aback when Vi pushed her to the wall, she looks very comfortable with the woman in the brothel, since that scene I have always thought that she is kind of a womaniser, Vi flirts and jokes a lot but i think it is part of a defensive or protective mechanism at first and also she just likes to joke around.
There is a spoken word poem by Sarah Kay titled 'The Type'. The middle verses resonate and echo so much for me during the scene between Caitlyn and Vi in Caitlyn's bedroom. P.S. I'm changing a few words to make the context crystal clear. If you grow up the type of woman she wants to hold, you can let her hold you. All day she practices keeping her body upright- even after all this evolving, it still feels unnatural, still strains the muscles, holds firm the arms and spine. Only around you will she want to learn what it feels like to curl herself into a question mark around you. That is what that moment of vulnerability of Vi curling herself into a ball next to Caitlyn feels like to me.
I like your visual annotations method of additional context to the work though it means I can't look away for long. Also, you can't bake too much. You just need a larger distribution system to get your excess creations to more hungry mouths for disposal. :)
Ahhh thank you! I’m so glad! I really enjoy annotations in videos like these (altschiftx and Schnee come to mind!) so I figured I’d try them out! 😄 I remember things better when I can read. And YKNOW WHAT YOURE RIGHT LMAO I must work on my distribution! 😂
Hellohello. Very much enjoying your Arcane character series. With your eye for symbolism, have you considered doing a colour analysis of the show? The blue of Piltover's enforcer uniforms and hex tech. The pink of Zaun and shimmer. How Vi's hair is definitively of Zaun, and Powder's showing how her love of tinkering and tech would be a perfect fit for Piltover had she been born there. Their mother's being blue like Caitlyn's implying that Vi has succumbed to Zaun because she had to. The alternating blue and pink of Jinx's nails capturing her twin mental states, and the final change in eye colour post-shimmer. And speckled between all that, the green of Ekko's third way and the red of the external threat represented by Mel's mother and Noxus.
maybe I'm overthinking this but after Vi says the oil and water thing she puts her hood on in my opinion i see this as she as already been touched by the water/Caitlyn but by her putting the hoodie on she's trying to reject the water/Caitlyn but she's already been touched by it so she can't get away when its already touched her surface
I think Caitlyn's upbringing was so sheltered that she had almost no friends. Private tutors, ceremonies, her parents' parties and functions, she had to learn how to behave as a child in formal settings (which is not free at all). I think this is why she comes across as socially reserved in many informal situations.
14:01 that kind of stuff doesn’t exist in the arcane universe. there’s no such thing as homophobia or anything similar to that + her parents already know she’s into women
Also Grayson totes step Mum vibes and I would bet in a secret lesbian relationship with her Mum...trapped in duty vibes, her whole demeanor got real heavy, extra hard and cold post death.
Council seat might actually NOT be inherited, SORRRY GUYS! LOL thank you for watching!
@@lydiscott they are
They talk a lot about Houses and Traditions
@@aetherwolf9288OH THANK YOU FOR CLEARING THAT UP 😄😄😄
@@lydiscott np
Yeah, I think Mel mentions elevating House Talis to the council in episode 4, rather than Jayce as an individual. He is just the current representative of his house, I guess
Even if there is some parliament rules on acsencion to the council, it's likely rigged to place those the nobles houses want to the council. Much like most forms of democracy.
Something to note here is how the relationship between Vi & Caitlyn is a combination of opposite attracts (both have different upbringings & personalities) & birds of a feather (both protective, stubborn, determined, & good hearted)😁.
I LOVE THAT PAIRING
The best freaking dynamic everrrrr
😭
(after watching arc 1 of season 2) how does it feel to be apollo’s favorite?
Have you watched the first act of season 2 yet?
Well this aged like fine wine 🍷
And in that final episode she had a chance to prevent the bombing and potentially the war by just taking one shot, but she failed to do so because of her desire not to hurt Vi
I could definitely see her taking that lesson to heart in season 2. That her first priority has to be protecting the citizens of Piltover from further destruction, by never hesitating like that again. By doing the hard and unpleasant thing, making what someone like Ambessa would call “the necessary decisions to keep us safe," and forcibly keeping topside and the undercity from hurting each other, whether they like her means of doing so or not
And I could see her deciding that things like empathy and personal feelings are only holding her back, so she needs to bury them deep inside (or ship them halfway across the continent like the Medardas).
I love all of this! 😄
First theory about season two Caitlyn’s arc I see that actually makes sense, it sounds soo interesting
@lismarie9011 I really hope I'm on the right track, because Caitlyn meaning well but taking it too far for a while is a much more interesting story direction than Caitlyn just going off the deep end and not even having good intentions anymore
Maybe it even happens gradually, like she has this clear vision in the beginning of the season of how to prevent the war and preserve peace in the city but everybody topside keeps rejecting her ideas. Then she crosses the river and finds that even though she cares so much about the wellbeing of the undercity and Jinx just wants "to watch it all burn," the people there now LOVE Jinx and actually try to protect her from Caitlyn
So Cait slowly loses trust in all the people around her except Vi.
My favorite Caitlyn headcanon is that she's actually the more romantically experienced one. 😉
By contrast, Vi comes across as the more flirty one, but that's clearly an act. She spent pretty much all her formative years either being a parent to her little sister, or in prison and struggling just to survive. Hell, Vi might even be a virgin!
sorry i love your take but i lost it at BABY GIRAFFE
This is my favourite headcanon too!!
It makes a lot of sense that she’s the most experienced one too, Vi was literally in prison for YEARS, Cait could do technically as she pleases (at least in that regard), I also kinda think that the fact that she’s the one asking “what about us” so directly could also be (apart from everything else) a bit of a “hint” that she knows how to handle romantic relationships better (this is just a smaller detail on the scene tho),
It’s also interesting to see Vi’s flirtiness as an act to hide her lack of romantic experience, I can just imagine a scene where she’s all confident flirting with Caitlyn to maybe annoy her (like in the brothel) but then Cait flirts back very directly/boldly and she starts getting a bit nervous hhahah (very random Ik)
Plus Vi was in solitary confinement for a long time because she kept fighting with the other prisoners. I highly doubt she even got basic human contact for years.
Vi might even be a virgin! is such a strange thing to say and even think about. Touch grass
i agree with this!! however it’s interesting how caitlyn is only ever shown talking to adults, never anyone her own age. calling herself a misfit, and generally not seeming to be interested in anyone romantically until she meets vi.
i wish we knew more about this! i’m so excited to see what caitlyn is like when her and vi’s relationship gets (hopefully??) more serious during act 1.
Plus her mom kicks down Cait’s door and busts out the shotgun when she hears Cait and Vi sneaking into the bedroom.
I’m scared that you may be right 😬😬😬
It's also a good thing to note that Caitlyn gave Jinx a second chance by not killing her in that moment, majorly for Vi's sake and the goodness of her heart.
The challenge in fiction or reality is trying to stop it before it consumes everything.
how does it feel to be right 😭
@@himepuri I wasn't completely right.
She's an uptown girl, she's been living in her uptown world
Great analysis as always :) As much as I love Vi, I'm looking forward to Caitlyn's arc the most for season 2. Her ideals are going to be tested for sure. I think it's going to be rough, but hopefully there will be some meaningful catharsis for her in the long run.
I have a feeling she’s going to go down a dark path, and I’m all for it, but GAH I hope she comes out of it okay. Thanks so much for watching! 😄
That’s a very good observation!
I thought it was Vi preparing for the beating, cause it's implies that she got beaten in prison on the daily basis
@ I think this is true as well, she was rolling her shoulder though in case she had to stand defensively
Oh she is MUCH more than that now
Eren Jäger lite
I can't believe there're people who think she's just visual or Vi's (unofficial) girlfriend. The thing that grabbed me the most was her skills (especially the scene where Jinx was shooting)
Ya I’ll admit I’m totally guilty of viewing Caitlyn through a very Vi-centric lens in the past, because Vi is such an interesting character as well, but when I realized this I was like “oh crap I need to do right by Caitlyn here” lol. She’s got so much more to her than just being Vi’s anchor.
'She doesnt shoot to kill'
Well that escalated quickly in season 2
Caitlyn forgives easily and doesn't hold grudges. She really stands out from the rest of the characters on that point.
Watch season 2 yet?
@amayaguerra6602 I still think it's true.
you're so right and season 2 proves it further
Cupcake is a very good character and funnily the only character with plot amour in its purist form (Progress day trap and she being the only survivor although being closest to the explosion).
But besides this she is probably the second character incorporated in the story from Topside after Grayson.
Because she is like Powder the embodiment of her city in its purist form.
Thats the reason she is so closely connected to every character more so than even Vi or Powder.
I love the fact that she is gay just because it adds just another layer of conflict and tragedy to her and I love myself some layers lol.
Great video.
Have a nice day

Thanks for watching, Aether! 😄
Schnee did really solid dive into Caitlyn that really resonated with me
FUCKING LOVE SCHNEE

Did you write the show???
I looove that Caitlyn's name is Irish, she speaks with a British accent, and is voiced by a Scottish actress😄
Great video!
Not to mention the character is half "Asian" (technically Ionian in lore because it's a fantasy world, but basically Asian)

Technically they never dated, so she's everything but Vi's girlfriend. 😁... but this comment is written pre S2 coming out.

@@AverageDonaldDuckFan Definitely, but it's never been official, and that makes her character so much stronger character-wise, in some ways.

Awkward rizz? Caitlyn has excellent rizz! She was just initially surprised.
Caitlyn sucks at lying or being fake. Which is why the matilda thing was so cringy. That and the wip lash from Vi coming on to her. I feel like one in a room caitlyn relaxed and was more herself and obviously got the attention she wanted.

Haven’t watched the video yet, but I noticed that the text on the thumbnail is quite similar to the thumbnail of Idle Scree’s Caitlyn video posted about a week ago. It’s likely a coincidence, but if it’s not then a mention in the video or even just the description goes a long way.

I was thinking the exact same thing as soon as I saw this
Oh wow! I had no idea, total coincidence 😄 it’s nice to hear that more people see this about her too though
I love the subtle parallel between Jinx/Powder and Caitlyn. I love how it carried over to season 2, with it even being directly pointed out by Vi. It was so well done!

Awwww seriously thank you so much for watching and for letting me know this 😊
After doing whatever she could think of to break free from overprotection, she finds her calling in protecting a protector.
I thought the title said “MY girlfriend” and i was like “yeah cause she’s *our* girlfriend”
Caitlyn is not a side character! She has one of the highest screen times in the whole show. She's definitely part of the ensemble cast

SAME! I can handle some things being spoiled but not for this story
One of my favourite analyses of Caitlyn made the observation that Caitlyn actually displays a very Machiavellian personality, albeit guided by her moral compass (she might not be a good liar, but her lies still work)
If Season 2 shifts her moral code slightly, she would have the potential for a very ominous character
OHHH I love this point this feels very ominous!!!
I suspect that her arc in Season 2 will involve her choosing between her original morals and those corrupted by anger, revenge & outside manipulation
Should she fall into that, it'll be interesting to see what pulls her back from the brink
Prolly my fave character
amazing!! excited to see your thoughts on caitlyn’s arc in s2
Ahhh thanks for watching!! 😊
It just occurred to me what the perfect summary for Caitlyn's likely season 2 arc is:
"In the pursuit of great, we failed to do good. We have to make it right."
Just like Jayce and Viktor, just like Vander, heck even Silco in the end.
Can't wait to see a Baking video. One cake for each character you treated on this channel x)
OH GOD
@@lydiscott Can’t step back now 🤪
i have been abstaining from season two leaks and trailers as well. its rough but i believe its gonna be worth it
I’m LIVING for the Caitlyn appreciation and love!!!!! My girl deserves it! 🥹
Amazing video, excellent analysis...Caitlyn is my favorite character and CaitVi is the best of Arcane, hope they come back in the future. Congratulations and keep doing.👍👏
Please dissect our s2 baby she’s going through it
Yaaaa for sure, planning to as soon as the whole show is released! 😄
Love Caitlyn so much! Thank you for this video. 💚
Glad you enjoyed! 😄
Oh good god, I never even realized that Caitlyn 'Crossed a Red Line' during her first meeting with Vi... LOL
this is such a Good essay
Aw thank you!
😢pretty sure Graysen's death hit Caitlyn hard too....
Considering Vi witnessed it
Checking out your RUclips channel for the first time and it is amazing girl you are incredible you totally rock/reek of beautiful awesomeness.
Wow spot on with some predictions
I am so hyped for season 2 🎉. I haven't watched one single second of any trailers to get sort of a pure experience.
Best animated series ever 😊
Always so good Liddy. Can't wait to see the next one. Arcane or Cyberpunk we'll always watch and learn.
Can't wait to see her in the next adaptation!

Ah, but one can use an emulsifier! And that is their shared experience :)
Honestly thank you for the video, your analysis is spot on ✨💯😏
i heard the hollow knight music and already know this is gonna be some great analysis :3
My favorite Arcane character.
18:01 Please, Freud can't keep getting away with it.
LOL
I recently Discovered your chanel and i love it your videos are amazing and genuently show me so many things i missed in my favorite storys. The Only Sad thing is that there are not more videos :(
Please TALK about Mel soon 🙏 I would be looking forward to any form of analysis regarding her character
I'd love to hear your analysis on Cait in Season 2
There is more i have to say on this topic but for now any thoughts?

oh diva what a great vid
Good evening 🌃. I'm fan of caitlyn and vi. Everyone have great day and next day and week and weekend and next week and full happiness 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊. Great video and keep make great videos.
Ywah caut hugging huck very much reminds me of princess diana hugging aids victims at a time when everyone was so terrified of it. Someobe of such privilege abd status taking the first step to show the world these people are human and deserving of respect
Should I watch this show? Is it good?
This is my sister. She won’t watch the show no matter how many times I tell her she should. Please tell her to watch the show lmao
@@lydiscott😂
I immediately started singing the Cher song in my head😂you’re not alone there sister!
She’s my favorite character and after season 2, she’s still my favorite character.
Oh FUCK YEAH ANOTHER ESSAY!!!
WEEWOOO
Hey, this is a crazy good channel and I’m really happy to have subbed to it early. I really think you’re gonna grow big with how thoughtful your content and own conclusion are. Do you write yourself?
watching this rn is kinda funny

AH THANK YOU I’m sorry I don’t know anything about league lmao
@@lydiscott (:
I agree, he is an underrated character, but I think he is going to shine in the second season
literally the best character on the show
Fantastic content
thank you for this video ! arcane’s rendition of cait is one of my favourite fictional characters of all time , it’s lovely to see her getting some love
love the hollow knight out in the background
I feel like i watched a video on this exact topic about a week ago
There is a spoken word poem by Sarah Kay titled 'The Type'. The middle verses resonate and echo so much for me during the scene between Caitlyn and Vi in Caitlyn's bedroom. P.S. I'm changing a few words to make the context crystal clear.
If you grow up the type of woman she wants to hold,
you can let her hold you.
All day she practices keeping her body upright-
even after all this evolving, it still feels unnatural, still strains the muscles,
holds firm the arms and spine. Only around you will she want to learn
what it feels like to curl herself into a question mark around you.
That is what that moment of vulnerability of Vi curling herself into a ball next to Caitlyn feels like to me.
Here early!
WOOO thank you! 😂
As an only child, I rebuke the sheltered assumption. But anyway, who else is throwing an Arcane watch party?
Ahh Cait's a sentinel you say, no wonder she can build titanic-bruiser and still carry the game. Anyway, love the analysis
I think Caitlyn's upbringing was so sheltered that she had almost no friends. Private tutors, ceremonies, her parents' parties and functions, she had to learn how to behave as a child in formal settings (which is not free at all). I think this is why she comes across as socially reserved in many informal situations.
Who wants to do a couples costume with me? Be the Caitlyn to my Vi!
14:01 that kind of stuff doesn’t exist in the arcane universe. there’s no such thing as homophobia or anything similar to that
+ her parents already know she’s into women
I love the Hollow Knight soundtrack in the background ✨
Also Grayson totes step Mum vibes and I would bet in a secret lesbian relationship with her Mum...trapped in duty vibes, her whole demeanor got real heavy, extra hard and cold post death.
Caitlyn is fine AF!
You´re right...in season 2 Caitlyn leaves Vi and then well...we already see the Clip and know how that went haha
