    One other not3 some older devices only use wpa2 not wpa3. Wifi 6ghz roughter default to wpa3. This can cause connectivity issues so you may want to revert to wpa2 if you are having connectivity issues after a wifi 6e roughter upgrade.

    Question: what would I do if the card I’m replacing is the exact same model as the one I had? What would I do in terms of the drivers?
    I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN517-51 with an Intel Ax200 wifi 6 card in my system. Recently I was doing a fan replacement and repaste of the heat sink, and I accidentally pulled the aux cable and the aux connector came off while trying to reattach.
    I wasn’t sure if I should upgrade to AX210 (cause it’s scared of it not working), so I was wondering whether I could just do a straight swap of AX200 for AX200. Would I ned to install any kind of driver, if the new card is the same model as the old…?
    Or would upgrading to AX210 be better all round as a solution. I just want the least painful and quickest experience

    • @mztahhan

      if it didn't work you can always replace it back

    • @Olivia-W
      @Olivia-W 9 месяцев назад

      For future readers: I mean, if the new AX200 works properly, yes, you can replace it without issue. It shouldn't require any driver change. Just install the new one.
      Most likely the AX210 will also be compatible with a driver update.

    please note that 6Ghz doesn't always show up after current intel drivers are installed. This is the case on older platforms. I'm running a gen 4 i5. I was able to get 6.gz to show up with the .45 driver. I think intel is currently on the .180 or .190 driver. The .45 driver is hard to find 9n the intel website and you have to dig. I keep testing a new driver for 6ghz whenever Intel updates it but no luck yet so I revert back to .45. Windows 10 also doesn't tell you that yiur connected to a 6ghz network. But it does tell yiu if you are connected to a 5 ghz or 2.4 ghz one. I named all my networks different names so it easy to find the one i want.

      @sokre988 o domt have newer system so all I got to test with is a 4th gen. i guess i had assumed it was a tpm thing.
      make sure you fully remove all other drivers... im building a new ddr5 i5-13600k system on z790 chip set this weekend. I got a ax1690i the killer wifi m.2 card that uses .180 drivers... ill try those. Then the 190 to see if I see my 6ghz. If not, I'll revert back to .45.

    my laptop barely catches nearby wifi signals, would this diy fix the problem?

    • @charleshines8523
      @charleshines8523 Год назад

      It might. I upgraded to WiFi 6 with an Intel AX200NGW and it helped. I also upgraded my router to a TP-Link AX300 Pro (looks like similar to the Intel version but no Intel logo). That router retails for $179.99 normally but is frequently on sale for $129 or at least a lot less than the normal price. I have had good luck with TP-Link because they are good routers. I never have to go and reset it. Some laptops have just one antenna cable but that doesn't mean you are out of luck with upgrades. I just got one that comes with antennas and used one of those. I didn't need the other because it was already installed. I found a space in my laptop where a hard drive would be on a similar model and placed the antenna there. They have strong tape so place it wisely. I did that after attaching the antenna to the WiFi card since those connectors are small and difficult to couple then stuck the antenna down. I just made sure it would not touch other electronic parts. Depending on where it is you may have some slack in the cable. Don't cut it, that is thin coaxial cable not wire. If that end comes off the connector you will never be able to reattach it yourself without causing a short between the two conductors which would destroy your WiFi card I installed my antenna this way to avoid taking the screen bezels apart which is a fairly difficult thing to do.
      To answer your question, you might get a better signal once the upgrade is done. Just make sure to download the drivers first to a flash drive or the computer you intend to upgrade. If you can't connect to WiFi yet you will need to connect via ethernet or use a computer that still has internet to get the drivers. Not everyone has a second one.

    Cheers for that. Nigh on impossible on my old HP G7 laptop though. IIRC, HP has a whitelist and disallows WiFi / Bluetooth modules in BIOS on laptops of this vintage. BTW, for laptops with built in battery, I recommend running the battery down completely if possible. Otherwise in many cases you can just disconnect the battery before working on it.

    • @charleshines8523
      @charleshines8523 Год назад +1

      On modern ones they stopped doing that I think. I have an HP laptop I bought this year and while the AX200NGW is not one that HP listed as supported it worked anyhow. I think they just said it is not compatible because the laptop has one antenna and the AX200NGW needed 2. I just had to find a spot in the case safe for it (since I don't want to mess with the display). It works a lot better than that horrid Realtek 8821CE it had in it from the factory. Really I never cared for Realtek WiFi. I can tolerate sound from a Realtek chip but their WiFi chips are mediocre!!

      @@vinylmonster4907 I can also. I could probably push it further if modules with a high enough capacity existed. I know I can push my desktop to 128 GB and it uses DDR4 like my laptop. If there were 64 GB DDR4 SODIMMs there may be a chance that it would work unless the firmware limits it artificially and some laptops do have limits of that type on some things sometimes.
